Offenbar unaufhaltsam breitet sich die tödliche Seuche in Richtung Westen aus. Ich fürchte, daß auch das Uralgebirge keine wirksame Barriere für die gefährliche Krankheit darstellt.
Und ob der Bundesgrenzschutz die Teufelspest wird stoppen können, darf wohl ebenfalls bezweifelt werden.
Letzte Hoffnung ist, daß die Experten noch rechtzeitig wirksame Maßnahmen gegen die Vogelgrippe finden.
Die Angst ist jedenfalls da...

....Die Grippesaison 2002/2003 war eine der schwersten seit langem. Allein in Deutschland sind, vor allem im Februar und März, etwa 16 000 Menschen an Grippe gestorben und damit doppelt so viele wie in den Jahren zuvor....
Fazit: Die Vogelgrippe ist so wichtig wie ein Sack Reis der in China umfällt. Die altägliche Grippe in Deutschland rafft 200 mal mehr Menschen hin als diese bedeutungslose Vogelgrippe.

Nachdem ich vor 5 Tagen ein halbes Hähnchen verspeiste, traten bei mir kurz darauf grippeähnliche Erscheinungen auf. Seitdem bin ich krank.

Staging Martial Law
Many readers are asking what I think of president Bush`s plan to impose martial law over whatever areas of the country are necessary should a killer pandemic, like bird flu, hit the U.S. What Bush is suggesting is that there are certain kinds of situations where the military is better suited than civil authorities to deal with some kinds of situations - such as a nuclear terror incident.
But Bush`s comments are worrisome to civil libertarians and Constitutionalists who worry that the military`s involvement in anything on home soil sets the the possibility of federal control of the country, something outlawed in the Posse Comitatus Act. This is the kind of situation which is ideal for the National Guard, not regular Army. The Bush "logic" is that the military is better suited than other agencies.
We disagree. When a country takes its military and puts it to work within a country - and where it answers to the commander in chief, that`s a dictatorship in my book. Especially when it`s almost like agencies that should do the job (read: FEMA) appear as though they have almost deliberately sabotaged their charter and blown their mission in order to pave the way for the "use military" argument.
Give Governors and Mayors control of the National Guard - which means if there are enough Army and other line services to enforce martial law, they could be in Iraq ands the National Guard units there be here where they might have been more responsive than the inept response we saw.
Our real bottom line, though, is this: Once we let Bush use military, it`s just a hop, skip, and a jump to using foreign military on our soil - something that has prompted people in my circle of friends to ask "How do we take back governance from these people? "
I used to say "Vote!" But, I don`t trust machine voting, especially when the ultimate decision is made by a Bush-picked court. A few people I know have even talked about a second American Revolution...after all, the republicans who used to stand for the Constitution, small central government and a balanced budget have all disappeared into the corporate slush. Me and Mr. Mossberg aren`t going there. But, we are checking out Libertarian and other parties which seem to have a better memory of what the Framers had in mind than the present power grabbers have up their sleeves. We advocate voting and voting again with our wallets before talk of chambering rounds.
What the Bush administration may not be aware of is how many Americans are fed up and seriously angered (fighting mad, in fact) about (choose your favorite) a) NAFTA/CAFTA, b) Job jacking, c) Iraq, d) disaster response, d) taxes, e) corporate slush, f) the Fed, f) gold suppression, g) the crooked dealings by the politicos, and the list goes on...

BUCHAREST, Romania (CNN) -- Romanian officials quarantined a Danube delta village of about 30 people Friday after three dead ducks there tested positive for bird flu -- the first such cases reported in the region.
Agriculture Minister Gheorghe Flutur said the virus found in the farm-raised ducks came from migrating birds from Russia.
And while it is difficult for the virus to spread from birds to humans, authorities were taking no chances. They sealed off the village of Ciamurlia and banned hunting and fishing in eight counties in the region.
Romania also suspended imports of chickens and other poultry from 15 countries, most of them in Asia.
There have been no immediate reports of sickness in the village. Flutur said officials were working to get vaccinations and medication to the people affected by the quarantine.
Flutur said samples from the dead ducks have been sent to London for further examination.

Ist IMO alles nur eine riesengroße Kampagne der Hersteller von Grippe-Impfstoffmitteln. Die wirken zwar nicht gegen Vogelgrippe, aber der Verbraucher/Patient fühlt sich trotzdem irgendwie besser, weil er irgendwas unternommen hat. Die Pharmaindustrie macht ihren Reibach (die "normalen" Grippeschutzimpfungen waren seit Jahren rückläufig), die Ärzte verdienen auch happig daran, die Politiker haben scheinbar endlich mal was für den Schutz der Volksgesundheit getan (um hektischen Forderungen "nun macht doch endlich was" zuvor zu kommen). So wird heftig die Trommel geschlagen und alle profitieren. Auf der Strecke bleiben vermutlich ein paar Tausend oder mehr arme Zugvögel, die aus nackter Angst abgeschossen werden, obwohl noch kein einziger gefunden wurde, der infiziert war (nur einheimisches Federvieh in den jeweiligen Ländern).

an der sog. vogelgrippe sind doch bisher wirklich nur wenige menschen gestorben. viel weniger als bei der normalen grippe etc.oder beim autofahren etc.
wenn die "seuche" so gefährlich wäre, hätte es in asien doch
schon längst ein massensterben gegeben.
siehe im übrigen die ausführungen von gemma vom 16.10.
ich finde es in unserem alltag potentiell viel gefährlicher:
elektrosmog, mobbing, ärger über hartz4 etc., feinstaub, krankenhäuser mit diversen viren, arztdiagnosen, lebensmittel vom discounter,lebensmittel aus der mikrowelle, cola, alkohol, zigaretten, autoverkehr und und und.
alsomal schön die kirche im dorf lassen.
hühner und enten muß man ja wirklich nicht roh essen, zum chinesen geht man eh nicht, weil dort zuviel glutamat im essen ist.
übrigens was macht denn eigentlich der rinderwahnsinn, war auch nur so ne fixe idee, um die leute einzuschüchtern.
