RE: PRELIMINARY DRILL RESULTS –ROE JOINT VENTURE (NEWCREST EARNING 70%)
Metex Resources Ltd (ASX;MEE) is pleased to announce significant results from a program of rotary
airblast drilling (“RAB”) and aircore drilling(“AC”) currently underway on its Roe Project located 125km
east northeast of Kalgoorlie in the Eastern Goldfields. Newcrest Operations Limited (a subsidiary of
Newcrest Mining Limited) has an entitlement to earn a 70% interest in the Project by completing
expenditure of $4 million within a five year period.
Within E28/1416, a program of 18 RAB/AC drillholes for a total of 1519m has been completed as part of a
regional reconnaissance drill program (Figure 1). Vertical holes have been completed on 100m centres.
On a single traverse at 6616400N between 460600E-462300E, three holes have intersected anomalous
gold results in saprolite (weathered bedrock) at depth. The most significant intercept to date is 8m @
8.2 g/t in RORB 0402 from 79-87m (end of hole). This intercept occurs at the end of hole, and is also
the western most or last hole of the traverse. Two further holes located further east returned intervals
ranging up to 4m @ 0.3g/t. The joint venture has moved quickly to consolidate its land position by way of
further exploration title acquisition, and is expected to commence additional drilling shortly.
This new discovery has been returned from an area to the east of the Claypan Fault where there is little
or no previous history of exploration. It lies approximately 40km to the southeast of the encouraging
Tiberius Prospect. Heritage issues continue to delay RC drilling required at Tiberius to follow up results
from the two RC drillholes completed to date(TBRC002, located at 6648400N 441810E returned 21m @
1.84g/t from 18m). For the purpose of facilitating further drilling Newcrest is currently completing an
application for a Notice Under Section 18 of the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972 to be lodged with the
Department of Indigenous Affairs.
