As at 31st December 2010, the Cash at Bank and Investments in long term financial instruments total $22,454k.

No Remorse!

"Keep an eye on biotechs such as Pharmaxis, ChemGenix Pharmaceuticals, Bionomics, Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals, and QRxPharma; all have interesting research trials or possible regulatory approvals scheduled in 2011. "
#1.014
.....Who would have thought a year ago that biotech companies would make a list like this? Mesoblast and Prima Biomed fly the flag for a sector that finally rallied in 2010 and could have further to go this year, with so many key biotechs nearing research milestones. Keep an eye on biotechs such as Pharmaxis, ChemGenix Pharmaceuticals, Bionomics, Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals, and QRxPharma; all have interesting research trials or possible regulatory approvals scheduled in 2011.

"... SCENESSE® is no longer a candidate drug, but a late stage clinical product already generating revenue and nearing a full regulatory filing in Europe, something we expect to achieve by the end of this calendar year. ..."

EMA acknowledges Clinuvel filing afamelanotide in Europe in 2011

Successful first year of drug supply to erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP) patients under AIFA 648/96
Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals Limited (ASX: CUV; XETRA-DAX: UR9; ADR: CLVLY) today announced that it has
made a successful start to its distribution of its new drug SCENESSE® (afamelanotide) to the erythropoietic
protoporphyria (EPP) patient community in Italy.
First European distribution of SCENESSE®
Since commencing a special access 648/96 scheme 11 months ago SCENESSE® has been distributed to
approximately 40 patients in Italy to treat EPP, a severe genetic disorder designated as ‘orphan’ disease.
Throughout the treatment period all patients have been followed up by EPP specialists and, significantly, no
serious drug-related adverse events have been recorded. During this period the company recorded
approximately A$1 million worth of sales. Clinuvel is reimbursed for the drug by the Italian health system.
Clinuvel will continue to distribute SCENESSE® under the 648/96 scheme with the intention of expanding use
of the photoprotective drug among EPP patients.

Der Gleiche Up-Trend weltweit ...

Unglaublich für ein Biotechunternehmen mit diesen:
--> Erfolgsaussichten in mehreren kleinen Indikationen (EPP, AK; PDT und SU)
--> und großen Indikationen (PLE und Vitiligo) mit Milliardenumsätzen jährlich !!!
--> langfristigen Patenten
--> medizinischen-, fortgeschrittenen Testphasen weltweit!
--> Orphan Drug Designation bei der FDA und der EMA
--> generierende (nachgewiesen-) Einnahmen
--> Blockbusterpotential in der medizinsichen- und
--> - kosmetischen Weiterentwicklung von Melatonan
--> weitere Indikationen in Vorbereitung (Rosacea Akne)
Man sagt doch.

Aussage a) Nach 10 Monaten wäre dann --> 17. März 2011 (750.000,-)

...."Firstly, my apologies for taking so long to respond. Results from our second Phase III EPP study of SCENESSE (afamelanotide) in Europe (which included 2 UK sites) are currently under analysis. We should have these results by the end of this quarter. Should these, and results from a study in the US, prove positive, we intend to apply to European regulators to approve the sale of the drug, with an application date in mind for late this year. The timeframe for availability once we've applied then rests with the European regulators, but recent approvals for 'orphan' drugs (those which are intended for rare diseases) have taken approx 7-8 months to review.
I appreciate it's not a straight forward answer just yet, but there are still a few variables which may affect timings. As always, feel free to post questions here or email mail@clinuvel.com"

Unternehmensmeldung vom Mittwoch 31. August 2011
Clinuvel beendet präklinische Programm für SCENESSE ®
u.a. mit: …..“Following a review of earlier pre-clinical studies conducted by the
company, the EMA agreed with Clinuvel that carcinogenicity studies of afamelanotide were not required. ….”

(in freier Übersetzung)
ohne weitere Kapitalmassnahmen bankrott!

Heißt also ...

Sehr geehrter Herr Jediritter,

AUD p.a.

Clinuvel has received a great number of questions from many of you, as well as patients and physicians over recent months. On behalf of Clinuvel’s management, I wish to address some of these questions, bearing in mind that details of the current EMA review process cannot be discussed. Here we have identified and addressed eight of the most frequently posed questions.
1. What are Clinuvel’s expectations of the current EMA review?
The company is not allowed to speculate on timelines and outcome. We don’t want our knuckles rapped at this stage.
I can only elaborate on a logical sequence of reasoning and one which reflects the thoughts and strategy of Clinuvel’s Board, which devised the development plan in EPP.
Since 2007, reports have come in from physicians and patients that SCENESSE® (afamelanotide 16mg) has had a positive impact on their lives, specifically during spring and summer, but in some countries all-year round.
Over the years we kept an open mind by listening to expert academics and patients. It was felt that those who actually lived with this complex disease, being the recipients of the drug SCENESSE®, should be given the opportunity to tell their experience in their own words. This was valuable feedback which we did not want to disregard in haste or give preference to the theoretical data collated. We considered both potentially equally meaningful feedback.
In this case a growing pool of physicians and patients reported on the beneficial effects of the drug. It was a first sign for our teams that we were doing “good” for a group of patients. My Board mandate was laid out to me in 2005: “to explore the safety and medical utility of afamelanotide and if deemed safe to make it available for those groups of patients who need the drug most”. I believe we have fulfilled this mandate.
In 2010, the independent Scientific and Technical Committee of the Italian regulator AIFA reviewed Clinuvel’s data, sought numerous expert opinions, and made SCENESSE® available for EPP patients. Independently, numerous Swiss medical officers reviewed the data on SCENESSE® and published positive reports to insurers to make the drug available for Swiss patients. Over the years, US physicians provided clinical evidence of use in trials CUV030 and CUV039. Added together, Clinuvel had, and has, little reason to cast clinical doubt that it is developing a meaningful drug.
However, we are the first company worldwide to assert the effect of medically protecting patients against the harmful effects of light of a specific wavelength. I summarise my view on Clinuvel’s development plan: ‘being new and first poses an extra burden on those who attempt to introduce new therapies and products’.
Although I am not in the position to predict an outcome, I find it suffice to say that the collective goal of this industry is to find new therapies for patients who are yet not served. One only realises the significance of this quest once one has become a patient himself.
2. Clinuvel has stated in the past that it needs to define to regulators the clinical relevance of the treatment. How does the Company describe the clinical relevance of treatment?
Let me first put this in perspective. It is not until times of illness, when one’s health lies in the hands of physicians, that one realises the value he previously possessed. No ambitious woman or man believes that a serious illness can befall her or himself. This is autobiographical; I have stood on both sides of a patient’s bed. Living in a state of anxiety about one’s own health and being restricted in one’s daily activities is the ultimate condemnation of a human being. Tragically, on a day to day basis we easily forget the privilege of freedom to function without restriction.
From birth onwards, EPP patients never had a freedom to experience an unrestricted life: they are constantly anxious about light exposure, they cannot participate in social activities, they are guarded about their porphyrin levels and possible liver involvement, and they cannot communicate the invisible symptoms they experience. This group of patients is brave. Yet it is an additional burden for these patients that society does not yet recognise the impact of light exposure.
The explanation of clinical relevance is somewhat complex and follows certain argumentation relating to the specific handicap and disability of EPP patients.
First, EPP patients are lifelong guarded and bound to avoid light, not just UV light but any emitted light which contains the visible rays along 408, 550 and 650 nanometres wavelength. EPP is a disease in which symptoms are triggered by precise emitted rays of light. Hence patients have become aware of the risk of light exposure: sometimes they incur symptoms from sun, sometimes on overcast days, sometimes by standing in front of a window and sometimes due to ambient light sources (fluorescent globes, laptop screens, surgical lighting). The environment may change, but the risk for these patients remains the same.
Unique to EPP patients, and differing from any other photodermatosis (light-related skin disorder) is that EPP patients have an in-built warning system: their skin cells detect light exposure at an early stage (seconds/minutes) and provoke initial symptoms and slight burning sensations, tingling, prickling and stinging, alike when you have been bitten by a snake or insect. This warning system makes EPP patients react instantly and retract from further light exposure. In other diseases there are binary outcomes: symptoms appear or not. Yet in EPP, patients are alarmed by the first rays to which they are exposed. Hence, patients will not be willing to further expose themselves at the risk of incurring second degree burns and, eventually, scarring. This behavior has conditioned patients throughout life and has made them anxious about exposing themselves to outdoor conditions.
The clinical relevance of SCENESSE® is that it gradually reduces the anxiety of patients while it ‘switches off’ their in-build alarm system. In the long run, patients gain a freedom of movement which they did not have prior to treatment.
3. What does Clinuvel’s management regard as the most important aspect of its development plan for SCENESSE®?
Our teams worldwide have run a marathon barefoot. They faced adversity and persevered. The company’s emphases changed over time. Our teams managed to arrive at a final product, a monumental step, since this is the first controlled-release implant for the purpose of reducing or abrogating dermal symptoms. It took much of our managerial time and operational resources to work with the US manufacturers.
It took years to organise trials to ensure patients were willing to participate and travel from afar to the research clinics. Equally, it took much of our focus to ensure that we had the systems in place to monitor the safety of SCENESSE®, often by the hour after drug administration.
Many aspects weighed heavily on this development plan.
My view is that safety is the most dominant feature of launching a novel molecular entity. I am confident that we have developed a safe drug. No research team is able to recover from the doubt on, or lack of, safety of a drug. With this in mind we set out in 2005 to find an answer as to the safety of afamelanotide 16mg. Now, eight and half years later, I believe we have developed a safe drug for use in EPP. That is by far the most significant achievement by our teams: to manage the release, bio response and clinical use of a new drug has required much thought and energy.
4. Is there anything EPP patients can do in the process of EMA review?
Our teams understand the frustration of patients, but the company has done all it can to incorporate the views of patients.
We refer to the FDA’s website to see US EPP patients who have been heard by the FDA’s orphan diseases team. I ask patients to remain calm and await EMA’s outcome.
5. Will SCENESSE® be available for prevention of sun damage?
The off-label use of SCENESSE® is frequently mentioned by shareholders, investors and even patients. Clinuvel’s Board and management will not allow the use of SCENESSE® other than as a prescriptive for EPP patients. Clinuvel has managed the misuse or off-label use of the drug by carefully selecting physicians in expert centres who specialise in the treatment of porphyria patients.
6. Is Clinuvel involved in the distribution of counterfeit products?
Clinuvel is an ethical pharmaceutical company and only has an interest in serving a medical community in need of treatment. Clinuvel condemns and warns manufacturers, distributors and vendors of illegally distributed substances and any chemical agents which purport to mimic SCENESSE® but provide unsubstantiated benefits and pose serious potential risks. Those who make any false representation to the public in order to boost sales of their illegal substances will bear the legal consequences.
It is very sad and concerning that EPP patients have written to Clinuvel alluding to the fact that if SCENESSE® were not to gain regulatory approval, they would resort to self-injecting rogue and illegal substances. As a medical officer, I am saddened by these statements and strongly warn EPP patients to carefully consider the consequences of their actions before putting any harmful counterfeit substances into their body.
7. What is the status of the US phase III study in EPP (CUV039)? Why is there delay?
The CUV039 data are still in the hands of the contract research organisation. It may be that these results will also be made available to the EMA as confirmatory analyses of the earlier EPP studies.
8. What is the status of the vitiligo program?
We are awaiting the final safety analyses and analyses on pigmentary retention of the CUV102 trial, which was conducted in the US. At the same time our teams are preparing an Asian trial, and the intention is to evaluate the use of SCENESSE® in an Asian population with darker skin complexion.
As a final remark, the Clinuvel Board firmly believes in SCENESSE®, we have found a pharmaceutical solution for a severe rare disorder.
I thank our shareholders for their feedback during the EMA process and look forward to an outcome in the coming months.
Sincerely,
Dr Philippe Wolgen

Melbourne, Australia and Baar, Switzerland, November 11, 2013
Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals Limited (ASX: CUV; XETRA-DAX: UR9; ADR: CLVLY) today announced results from its confirmatory Phase III US study of the novel drug SCENESSE® (afamelanotide) in patients diagnosed with the rare light intolerance disorder erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP). Eighty seven adult EPP patients completed the six-month, randomised, multicentre, double-blind, placebo-controlled study (CUV039) with results showing that treatment with SCENESSE® improved patients’ ability to expose their skin to light and improved their quality of life (QoL). CUV039 was conducted in seven specialist porphyria centres (Alabama, California, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Texas and Utah) across the USA.
“This program is the first to fully and rigorously evaluate a therapy for EPP, a disease which is poorly understood globally and presents uniquely in the clinic,” Dr Robert J Desnick, Dean for Genetic and Genomic Medicine and Professor and Chairman Emeritus of the Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, and a lead investigator on the CUV039 study said.
“The results reflect numerically what our patients reported in the clinic: when treated with afamelanotide they can spend more time outside, experience less pain, and lead more normal lives. Professionally this is satisfying, as we may now, finally, be able to tell EPP patients that we can manage or prevent their painful symptoms and give them a freedom never before experienced,” Dr Desnick said.
EPP is a rare genetic disease found mainly in fair-skinned people. It is characterised by severe phototoxicity (intolerance to light) of the skin, resulting in intolerable pain, swelling and scarring, usually of exposed areas such as the face, hands and feet. Symptoms can vary from mild to extreme lasting pain requiring hospitalisation. Patients often lead an indoor and sheltered life, avoiding light exposure to prevent symptoms.
The primary study endpoint was to determine the extent to which patients could expose their skin to direct sunlight between 10am and 6pm. A strong trend towards greater direct sunlight exposure was seen in patients receiving afamelanotide, compared to placebo. Median total direct sunlight exposure was 64.13 hours (range 0 - 650.5 hours) in the active group compared with 47.5 hours (range 0 - 224 hours) for placebo-recipients (p=0.107). The distribution of the number of days with sun exposure of various blocks of time was significantly different between the treatment groups (p<0.001). As an example, SCENESSE® recipients reported more days when they had pain-free exposure of 60 minutes or more (the time of greatest risk of burns). Further data analyses, including objective photoprovocation testing, confirmed the ability of patients on active treatment to tolerate greater light exposure and spend more time outdoors.
As a secondary endpoint, QoL was evaluated using the validated EPP-Quality of Life (“EPP-QoL”) questionnaire. Following commencement of treatment the QoL of EPP patients improved, and was significantly better for active drug recipients.
The safety profile of the drug was good. Headaches and nausea were the most common adverse events, with slightly more reports of these in the treatment group.
“We have focused on delivering a therapy for these patients for more than eight years,” Clinuvel’s CEO, Dr Philippe Wolgen said. “Overall these results indicate that afamelanotide provides an effective treatment for patients with EPP and add to the body of evidence currently being reviewed for marketing authorisation by European regulatory authorities.”
In 2011 results were announced from Phase II US and Phase III EU trials (CUV029 and CUV030) of SCENESSE® in EPP. These showed SCENESSE® could reduce the severity of EPP symptoms and enable patients to lead more normal lives. A marked improvement in QoL was also reported. Thus far, no serious safety concerns have been identified from the use of afamelanotide in more than 900 patients, including over 300 EPP patients, involved in various clinical trials. Clinuvel is awaiting a response from the European Medicines Agency on a marketing authorisation application for SCENESSE® for EPP. SCENESSE® has been granted Orphan Drug Status in the US and Europe for EPP. Clinuvel is seeking a meeting with the US Food and Drug Administration to discuss a New Drug Application in the first quarter of 2014.

3 Newport GB; 4 Colombes FR; 5 Helsinki FI; 6 Manchester GB; 7 Maastricht
NL; 8 Dublin IE) Sponsor: Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Introduction: EPP
patients have a life-long painful photosensitivity which results in strict
light avoiding behavior. The symptoms result from an accumulation of
photosensitizing protoporphyrin IX. Afamelanotide is a potent 〈 -MSH
analogue that stimulates eumelanin production in the skin, which blocks the
penetration of light into the skin. The aim of this study was to determine
whether afamelanotide can 1) reduce the severity and number of phototoxic
reactions, defined as number of days with a Likert pain scale score (LSS)
of ε 4, for ε one consecutive day, 2) improve light tolerance, and 3)
improve quality of life (QOL) in EPP patients. Methods: A randomized
placebo-controlled trial was conducted in 8 European centers. Seventy-four
patients with EPP were enrolled in the study; 38 received 16 mg
afamelanotide implants and 36 received placebo implants. The implants were
administered subcutaneously on days 0, 60, 120, 180 and 240, via a 14G
needle. The median age of the subjects was 36.0 years (range 19-70) and
there were no differences between the groups in age, gender, weight or skin
type. The range of erythrocyte free protoporphyrin IX levels was 5.3-274
mol/l. Results: The severity (sum of LSS during all episodes) and the
number of phototoxic episodes per subject was lower in the group who
received afamelanotide 18.3 (mean, SD 27.8) and 2.0 (2.7) episodes compared
to 52.9 (98.2) and 4.9 (8.5) episodes in those who received placebo (p =
0.035 and 0.044 resp.). Patients who received afamelanotide could spent
more time in direct sunlight without pain, than placebo recipients (resp.
20.4 vs 5.6 hours during the study period; p = 0.005).). No serious adverse
events were reported and afamelanotide was well tolerated. The QOL measured
by SF36 was not different between the groups, neither at baseline nor after
treatment. A new EPP-QOL questionnaire demonstrated a significant
improvement in QOL in the afamelanotide group compared to the placebo group
(average score of 10 points and 12 points resp. decreased to -1.1 points
and 3.2 in treated vs placebo group; p = 0.011). Conclusion: Afamelanotide
administration resulted in a more than 3 fold prolongation of the time EPP
patients can spend in direct sunlight without pain. Afamelanotide was safe
and well tolerated. It ’ s effect in improving light tolerance and reducing
the risk of phototoxic reactions could possibly result in a major
improvement in the quality of life of EPP patients.

Non-binding offer materially undervalues Clinuvel
As announced on 28 July, Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals Ltd (ASX: CUV) received an unsolicited proposal from Retrophin, Inc. (NASDAQ: RTRX) on 17 July to acquire all of the shares in Clinuvel via scheme of arrangement, for either:
0.175 Retrophin shares per Clinuvel share (valued at A$2.14 per share based on the one month VWAP of Retrophin shares on 16 July 2014); or
A$2.17 in cash per Clinuvel share.
The proposal was subject to numerous conditions. Retrophin has acquired a stake of approximately 6.7% in Clinuvel.
The Clinuvel Board has evaluated the proposal in conjunction with its advisers Greenhill and Arnold Bloch Leibler.
The Board welcomes the interest in Clinuvel, but believes that Retrophin’s proposal materially undervalues Clinuvel and therefore declines the proposal. Clinuvel has advised Retrophin accordingly.
Clinuvel has invested heavily in SCENESSE® and is in the final stages of the European Medicines Agency (“EMA”) review process for marketing authorisation for the drug as a treatment for erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP, orphan indication) in Europe. This proposal comes less than three months before the EMA decision, anticipated by the end of October 2014. Pending EMA approval, Clinuvel will be in the position to market SCENESSE® throughout Europe.
The Company has had correspondence from shareholders, expert physicians and patients, and the Board continues to believe that it is in the best interests of shareholders for the management team to remain focused for next 8 weeks on preparing for the upcoming final EMA exchange. The Clinuvel Board also believes that continuity is imperative in guiding Clinuvel through the ultimate stages of the EMA review process and then through the US FDA regulatory process.
Clinuvel has worked intensely with its stakeholders, including medical professionals, patients and regulatory assessors, in a lengthy regulatory review process and has carefully developed its corporate strategy over a period of nine years in cooperation with these stakeholders. The Clinuvel Board is committed to maximising shareholder value by appropriately preparing for positive regulatory outcome and efficient distribution of SCENESSE®.
The Company will continue to keep its shareholders updated on material developments and returns to its usual course of business.

http://hfgapps.hubb.com/asxtools/Charts.aspx?asxCode=CUV&cha…

I suppose it is normal decompression after three weeks of speculation and rising share prices it is clear the decision will most likely be made public on 24 October. The joint venture is largely a non event as there has been no disclosure of financial conditions yet.
I would consider it highly unlikely to get a negative opinion now that we have the patients and the company coming over to convince EMA and achieve unanimity and the CHMP has also has the PRAC report where patients and experts have been involved. Orphan drugs have a 99% approval rate once the dossier is filed. All the interim votes must have been majority positive reported to clinuvel hence the confident wording by clinuvel over the past months. This year already 1 orphan drug has been turned down, unlikely to have another one. Vallauris Pte Ltd and the blockbuster potential is separated from clinuvel and out of the stock exchange. Let's see if this scenario pleases the ema chmp beau monde after their holidays at the cote d'azur. Sounds completely like the glybera AMT scenario with the difference that clinuvel is not liquidated (yet) and still on the publicly traded.
2 hours before entering the re-entry black out zone for spaceship clinuvel with the presentaion at the CHMP.
Clinuvel will be informed this week about the interim vote through the EMA rapporteurs and has to shut up for one month.
If an opinion will be issued this week that would mean a trading halt will be issued in the days after the meeting. For EMA to wait another month after the decision entices further speculation and is almost an invitation for insider trading and other dirty tricks.
If this week there is no trading halt and news from EMA the only thing that will move and tell something is the share price.
It will be interesting to see if a new rally will start.
Maybe the unexpected will happen and ema will issue a new clock stop!

Patients to discuss benefit-risk evaluation of medicines with the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use
EMA launches pilot project to integrate patients’ unique and critical views into CHMP discussions
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has launched a pilot project to involve patients in the assessment of the benefits and risks of medicines in its Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP).
Listening to patients enriches the scientific assessment of a medicine with new ways of thinking about benefit and risk from the patient perspective. This pilot project marks the next step in bringing patients’ views and values to the assessment of medicines throughout their lifecycle.
“As patients live with their condition on a day-to-day basis, their views on the therapeutic effect of a medicine and its impact on their quality of life - particularly when these are balanced against the risks - may differ from those of other stakeholders,” says Guido Rasi, EMA Executive Director. “Involving patients in CHMP discussions brings the patients’ voice into the decision-making process and ultimately contributes to the safe and rational use of medicines.”
The CHMP is responsible for conducting the initial assessment of medicines for which a Europe-wide marketing authorisation is sought. Assessing whether the benefits of a medicine outweigh its risks lies at the heart of this authorisation process.
As part of the pilot project, patients will be invited to present their views on medicines for which there is an unmet medical need and where the Committee still has concerns or doubts. Patients may also be invited to give their views in cases where the Committee is considering whether to recommend the withdrawal, suspension or revocation of a marketing authorisation, or a restriction of indication of an authorised medicine.
The pilot project will explore how patients can be involved systematically and effectively in oral explanations at the CHMP. A document outlining the main principles of the project is available here. This pilot project stems from a wider EMA strategy to better involve patients in the Agency’s activities.
The first medicine to be included in the pilot project contains the active substance afamelanotide. It is intended for the treatment of erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP), a rare genetic blood disorder which causes an absolute intolerance to light. Between five to ten thousand patients worldwide have EPP. There is currently no authorised medicine for this condition.
At the September meeting of the CHMP, two patients with EPP shared their experiences of living with the condition and answered specific questions from the Committee. Their inputs will be considered by the CHMP as part of its assessment of afamelanotide.
Inviting patients to participate in the CHMP is also an opportunity to increase patient awareness of the CHMP’s deliberations and makes the assessment process of medicines more transparent.
The pilot project will run for at least one year to allow a full assessment of the feasibility of involving patients in CHMP oral explanations. A report on the experience gained will be presented to the CHMP at the end of the pilot phase and will address issues including organisational aspects, feedback from the CHMP and patients involved, lessons learned and areas for improvement, as well as a proposal for full implementation of the project.
Pilot project reflects EMA emphasis on involvement of patients in scientific evaluation of medicines
The pilot project is in line with the work programme of the CHMP which recommends further integrating patients’ views in the assessment of benefits and risks of medicines. It also reflects the Agency’s continued emphasis on stakeholder involvement. Although this is the first time that patients have been invited to participate directly in discussions on the benefits and risk of medicines at the CHMP, patient representatives are already involved in many other activities, e.g., in the capacity of:
full members of the Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee (PRAC), Paediatric Committee (PDCO), Committee for Advanced Therapies (CAT) and Committee for Orphan Medicinal Products (COMP);
experts within Scientific Advice procedures;
experts in the various scientific advisory groups (SAGs), which provide specialised advice to the Agency’s scientific committees on the benefit-risk evaluation of specific types of medicines or treatments;
members of the Patients' and Consumers' Working Party (PCWP), through which they provide recommendations to the Agency and its human scientific committees on all matters of interest to patients in relation to medicines.

I decided to ask the EMA about what applicants can & can't say publicly throughout the review process & got the response below.
"The European Medicines Agency appreciates the fact that applicants that are public companies may be subject to legal requirements to disclose material information to their stakeholders, such as certain information concerning the progress of a centralised marketing authorisation procedure in the EU.
However, the Agency discourages applicants from creating any conditions that could undermine the independence of the Agency’s decision making process and/or expose its employees or members of scientific committees, such as the CHMP, to undue external pressure. Moreover, should any statement be made by a company contain wrong or misleading information, the Agency reserves the right to issue a corrective statement.
The EMA has not published any policies or guidelines concerning the content or timing of information that could be disclosed by the applicant for marketing authorisation to shareholders or third parties concerning on-going centralised marketing authorisation procedure."

Scenesse recommended for rare disease that causes intolerance to sunlight
Patients involved in discussions on benefits and risks of a medicine at CHMP for the first time
The European Medicines Agency has recommended granting a marketing authorisation under exceptional circumstances for Scenesse (afamelanotide) for the prevention of phototoxicity in adults with erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP), a rare genetic disease which causes intolerance to light. Scenesse is the first medicine for patients with this condition.
EPP affects fewer than 10,000 people in the European Union (EU). After exposure to sunlight, patients with EPP feel a stinging pain in sun-exposed skin. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can lead to an incapacitating pain, often followed by redness and swelling of the skin. Patients with EPP are often not able to lead normal lives, because they cannot spend time outdoors.
Scenesse acts by stimulating the production of a pigment called eumelanin, which naturally protects the skin against phototoxic reactions caused by sunlight.
During the evaluation of Scenesse, the EMA’s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) invited patients to share their experience of living with this condition. This was the first time that patients were involved in CHMP discussions on the benefits and risks of a medicine.
The CHMP decided that Scenesse should be recommended for marketing authorisation under exceptional circumstances. This type of authorisation can be granted for medicines that offer new or improved treatment options for patients with no or only limited alternatives, in cases where the applicant is not able to provide comprehensive data. In the case of Scenesse, there is a lack of robust efficacy data due to the difficulties in conducting placebo-controlled trials in this indication. Patients recruited in these studies are not willing to expose themselves to sunlight for fear of developing painful symptoms; therefore, the beneficial effect of the medicine on phototoxicity is difficult to assess.
The assessment of Scenesse was supported by data from the use of the medicine in more than 110 patients who were recruited in compassionate use programmes globally. These programmes allow the use of a medicine before it has been authorised when no satisfactory authorised therapies are available or when patients cannot enter a clinical trial. The CHMP heard from patients and healthcare professionals involved in an expert group that patients treated with Scenesse consistently reported improvements to their quality of life.
The CHMP has recommended approval for Scenesse on the condition that the applicant puts in place a robust risk management plan that ensures close surveillance of the safety and efficacy of the medicine. As part of this plan, the company will establish a registry of patients to collect safety and efficacy data.
Scenesse has benefitted from a range of EMA tools to support innovation. The applicant for Scenesse is registered as a micro-, small- or medium-sized-enterprise (SME), and as such benefited from support and incentives offered by EMA. The Agency also provided free scientific advice to the applicant during the development of the medicine because Scenesse has an orphan designation.
The opinion adopted by the CHMP at its October 2014 meeting is an intermediary step on Scenesse’s path to patient access. The CHMP opinion will now be sent to the European Commission for the adoption of a decision on an EU-wide marketing authorisation. Once marketing authorisation has been granted, decisions about price and reimbursement will take place at the level of each Member State, taking into account the potential role/use of this medicine in the context of the national health system of that country.

On Friday October 24, the European Medicines Agency’s (EMA’s) Committee for
Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) concluded its scientific evaluation of
Clinuvel’s drug SCENESSE® (afamelanotide 16mg) for adult patients diagnosed with
erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP). Based on its evaluation, the CHMP has issued a
positive opinion under exceptional circumstances in compliance with EC Regulation
726/2004 14(8). Clinuvel has compiled this brief Q&A document to address some of the questions anticipated
from the global EPP community as a result of the EMA decision.
What was the decision of the CHMP?
Based on its evaluation, the CHMP has issued a positive opinion, recommending that the EMA allow marketing
authorisation for SCENESSE® under exceptional circumstances in compliance with EC Regulation 726/2004
14(8).
What are ‘exceptional circumstances’?
This is a specific regulatory term applied to certain drug approvals. It means that the drug is recommended for
approval with strict conditions which Clinuvel must fulfil once the drug is being commercially distributed to
patients. The main activity will be to follow up patients for long time to ensure that safety and efficacy of the
drug is maintained.
Does this mean I can access the drug in Europe?
Not immediately. The CHMP’s decision must still be ratified by the European Commission in Brussels, a process
which will take time and may not be completed until the end of the year or early 2015. In parallel, Clinuvel
must complete the distribution requirements and logistics in various European countries. Following this
process, it is envisaged that the drug will be made available to EPP patients through the specialist treatment
centres in each country.
How much will the drug cost?
It is impossible to answer this question at present. It is Clinuvel’s intention to facilitate drug access for as many
EPP patients as is possible in a sustainable manner.
When will more information be made available about availability in Europe?
We expect to provide the community with an update before the end of 2014.
What impact does this decision have on the US FDA/SwissMedic/Australian TGA and other jurisdictions?
The main impact is that, as planned, Clinuvel will now approach and conclude discussions with other main and
leading regulatory authorities in each country to discuss what would be required to file for marketing
authorisation in their jurisdictions. No timeline can be provided for these discussions, however we will keep the
community updated on progress.

The first new pharmaceutical drug invented and developed for an untreated disorder by any Australian company has received regulatory approval from the European Medicines Agency (EMA). SCENESSE® (afamelanotide 16mg) treats the debilitating genetic disorder porphyria (EPP), or absolute intolerance to sunlight. The fear of lifelong burns requires EPP patients to lead an indoor, isolated existence avoiding any form of light.
SCENESSE® is the first treatment ever to have been developed for EPP.
EPP is characterised by an extreme risk of severe burns (phototoxicity) of the skin resulting in intolerable pain, swelling, scarring and a state of distress. A severe reaction – triggered by exposure to light, particularly sunlight – may result in hospitalisation.
Since 2006 Australian company Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals has invented, developed and tested SCENESSE®. The drug – the first approved from a new family of drugs known as melanocortins – acts as an anti-oxidant and activates melanin in skin, providing patients with a biological barrier between their skin and the various wavelengths of light triggering phototoxic reactions. Clinical trials in 350 adult EPP patients have shown the drug to be well tolerated, to reduce the incidence and severity of reactions, and to dramatically improve patients’ quality of life.
“The life of a patient with EPP is one of social deprivation, punctuated by periods of second degree burns and unspeakable pain following exposure to daylight or bright indoor lighting,” Clinuvel’s Acting Chief Scientific Officer, Dr Dennis Wright said. “For a decade now my team remained motivated by the unique opportunity to provide a product that could be life altering for these patients.”
The EMA’s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) has recommended that SCENESSE® be approved under exceptional circumstances (EC) after announcing in September that SCENESSE® was the first drug in a European pilot program incorporating patients’ and physicians’ clinical experiences in the regulatory decision process.
The EC approval acknowledges the challenges of conducting clinical trials in rare and severe disorders and enables access to treatments for patients without alternative treatment.1 An EC authorisation will enable Clinuvel to market SCENESSE® for EPP across the 31 EMA states.2 As part of the EC approval, Clinuvel and the EMA have agreed to a comprehensive post-authorisation pharmacovigilance plan to follow up patients long term.
“Medical innovation requires an exceptional focus with a consistent strategy, passionate team and long term trust from patients and expert physicians worldwide. It is a privileged to have written pharmaceutical history for these patients,” Clinuvel’s CEO, Dr Philippe Wolgen said.
“The immediate goal now is to facilitate access for European patients in the coming months, while we owe it to our American patients to accelerate the submission of the SCENESSE® dossier to the US FDA.”

Oct. 24, 2014 9:30 AM ET | About: Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals Ltd. ADR (CLVLY)
Disclosure: The author is long CLVLY. (More...)
Summary
Clinuvel had been trying to get Scenesse approved for years.
With doubts regarding efficacy even as anecdotal evidence proved otherwise, the approval was delayed.
Yet, Clinuvel finally attained approval. And more than this approval, this has implications for Clinuvel's credibility regarding its vitiligo program.
I had already talked about Clinuvel's (OTCPK:CLVLY) prospects regarding vitiligo, and how Clinuvel being able to approve its Scenesse drug for EPP could be seen as a large positive confirming the company's credibility, especially given how long the process was taking. I had also exposed the reasons for one to be pessimistic (the difficult approval process and indication that there were doubts among the deciders) as well as optimistic (the drug works). Well, today we finally got our answer. Scenesse was approved by EMA:
On 23 October 2014, the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (OTCQB:CHMP) adopted a positive opinion, recommending the granting of a marketing authorisation for the medicinal product Scenesse, 16 mg, implant, intended for the prevention of phototoxicity in adult patients with erythropoietic protoporphyria (NYSEARCA:EPP). Scenesse was designated as an orphan medicinal product on 8 May 2008. The applicant for this medicinal product is Clinuvel UK Limited. They may request a re-examination of any CHMP opinion, provided they notify the European Medicines Agency in writing of their intention within 15 days of receipt of the opinion.
The active substance of Scenesse is afamelanotide, a synthetic analogue of the physiologically occurring α-melanocyte stimulating hormone that acts as a melanocortin-1 receptor agonist thereby stimulating melanogenesis and emollients and protectives (D02BB02). The increased melanogenesis results in increased pigmentation of the skin.
The benefits with Scenesse are a decrease in light sensitivity, which translates into a limited increase in time EPP patients may spend in daylight or sunlight. Patients report an improved quality of life with increased time spent outside (commuting, work, leisure/sport, social). The most common side effects are headache, nausea, nasopharyngitis, migraine, abdominal pain, fatigue, lethargy and somnolence.
A pharmacovigilance plan for Scenesse will be implemented as part of the marketing authorisation.
The approved indication is: "indicated for the prevention of phototoxicity in adult patients with erythropoietic protoporphyria ". It is proposed that Scenesse be prescribed by physicians experienced in the treatment of erythropoietic protoporphyria.
Detailed recommendations for the use of this product will be described in the summary of product characteristics (SmPC), which will be published in the European public assessment report (EPAR) and made available in all official European Union languages after the marketing authorisation has been granted by the European Commission.
The drug costs about $6200 per implant, each lasting 60 days. I'd expect the final product to come in cheaper given the expanded market. This is a tiny market, though, so revenues from the drug shouldn't exceed a $50-$100 million revenue run rate per year.
However, more relevantly, this approval after a long process, together with existing trials, increase Clinuvel's credibility regarding it being on a good track to have a drug for vitiligo. Vitiligo is a much larger market consisting of between 35 and 140 million patients worldwide.
This means that Clinuvel is now credible and has a potential blockbuster in its pipeline, along with an approved drug heading to the market. Congratulations on those who believed - I'll be trying to buy more stock myself.

"Good morning and many thanks for the messages and questions.
We've had three primary questions over the last couple of days, all of which have been asked here.
Regarding countries outside of the 31 in Europe (i.e. Australia, USA), we expect to approach authorities for discussions on filings either late this year or early next. As Tim suggested, the EMA's approval must be formally ratified in Europe, a process which generally takes 67 days (according to the EMA's release). As we release more information on other countries we will share it here.
There are no definitive timelines for a paediatric dose of the drug, but we are committed to developing a formulation for children with EPP. We recognise that there is no current therapy for children with EPP and that the disorder has a significant impact on EPP kids and their families.
Earlier this year we announced a joint venture with a Singaporean firm to expedite this process. As with every step of our program, the first focus will be on safety.
Regarding vitiligo, trials are still ongoing in Singapore, with results expected next year. Should these show the drug to be safe and effective, we will look to conduct further studies.
#1.346

Dear Uhohinc,
your research is amazingly in depth. You even quoted my book, Rogue Financier. That is thorough stuff.. I am leaving this little post with you. On November 5th I will hold a speech at a University in Erding, Bavaria, north of Munich before a few hundred students and about a dozen people from the media. Clinuvel will feature quite prominently in this speech as the investment, providing me with great emotional gratification especially after the EMA approval. I was fortunate to finance this company. Quite frankly, our funding prevented this jewel from going bust and we actively searched the market for credible, science oriented management. I leave this little commentary with you to make available to others on share scene and other boards. I have followed Clinuvel very closely for years even during my 15 months in prison fighting extradition to America. I will touch on a few issues (not just these very narrow financial concerns) that may be of interest to you and others:
Valuation:
In the absence of serious research the shares are absurdly misplaced. During my illustrious career I received numerous investment awards (european hedge fund manager of the year, top us specialty fund manager, number one germany fund, European pension fund, blah blah blah). I have written over 500 research reports for the likes of Fidelity, Merrill Lynch, tweedy Browne, VMR AG, ACMH Group etc etc... I have a reasonable idea of this business. Here we go:
Revenues of USD 40 to 70 Million for EPP is realistic. But get to the pretax or net profit figures! On EPP alone, Clinuvel may trade at only 5 times 2016 or 2017 earnings. I have not the slightest doubt that EPP alone is worth AUD 5-7 per share right now. You have to look at Vitiligo separately! This a sum of the parts evaluation. I was the original proponent to encourage CUV to consider Vitiligo, but Dr. Wolgen took it the critical step further: not as a stand-alone treatment but as a combination therapy. Here are some facts which will blow your mind: there are no less than 1.2 million vitiligo treatments per year. Some world class sources say the number may be between 1.5 and 1.8 Million. I love using lowish numbers in my models. If the low balling works and I do not have to twist the math - so much the better. It is utterly realistic that CUV may get USD 5K to 7K per vitiligo treatment. It is increasingly evident, that the combination therapy is so much more effective it will over a few years largely wipe out the traditional treatments. I would be very surprised if CUV does not reach abut half of the market in annual vitiligo treatments, certainly no less than 500,000 treatments a year as the market will quickly learn about CUV's vastly superior product. USD 3.5 Billion in sales. What do you thing the bit margins are on this product? It is not unrealistic that CUV generates USD 1 Billion or more in net profit by 2018/2019. Some of the things you say make serious sense as well. How about off-label use for extreme vitiligo cases? Or how about the hundreds of thousands who get skin cancer after organ transplants. Would CUV work there. Worth a try certainly. Always better than the risk of malignant, at times deadly skin cancer. Or how about those extreme Fitzgerald 1 types ultra prone to get skin cancer even with only modest sun exposure. What is beautiful about the modeling now is that with EMA approval and 95 percent likelihood of FDA approval the shares have basically done nothing. There is not a single first rate research report on CUV! That is incredible and difficult to fathom. It is also a once in a lifetime investment opportunity. Do not get lost in all the blah-bla micro details in these posts. Buy, put away and then cash out of your ten, twenty, thirty or forty bagger. Yes, that is possible and probable. There is no chance this undervaluation persists for more than 6 to 12 months. None. Vitiligo is progressing quite quickly, quarterly EPP profit figures will show exponential growth and patient numbers in the US and Europe may even surprise on the upside. For a proper valuation you need to strip out all R&D, OH and simply take COGS and Marketing/Sales. Vitiligo, the same but get ready for USD 50 Million to get to full FDA approval. If I use 50 million shares outstanding (conservative) CUV is worth 12 to 15 AUD per share at this very moment. 300 for EPP and 450 for Vitiligo. In an organized auction process, CUV would easily get USD 10 per share. Cash!
Threats:
There are three: A takeover. CUV, at this price is a sitting duck. It needs to be on NASDAQ asap. Top senior management (mostly Dr. Wolgen) needs to stay for at least the next 5 years and he needs to upgrade his team for a rather demanding Vitiligo approval process. Unless you have been in this space for a few decades (I have) you do not appreciate obtaining regulatory approval for a treatment which simply does not fit into the classical approval methodology (placebo or double blind design was absolutely not possible). The Scenesse approval by the EMA was the first ever, which integrated patient/doctor groups in the decision making process. That is a monumental achievement. The product pricing is amazingly good and much better than I ever imagined when I got involved about a decade ago. I see shareholders moaning about compensation levels. That is beyond absurd. This company is already global, operating in Europe, Australia, Singapore and the US. Compared to those companies compensation levels are well below average and what I view as a serious risk - management only has a tiny stake in this company. Their interest are not properly aligned with shareholders. It is always the same risk. A well payed manager may sell out a company well below price if his personal stake is small. He may opt for a fat golden parachute instead. CUV top management owns about 4 percent of the company. Get real. 10 percent, some for EPP and milestones like NASDAQ and the mother of all approvals vitiligo. This is a serious risk. Of course an opportunistic takeover at AUD 7, 10, 20 or even 30 is another heavy risk. You are sitting on a potentially huge gold mine and someone literally steals it from under you. The third serious risk is execution. Dr. Wolgen is key and few very focused members of senior management. Retain, retain, retain and motivate. So simple. Upgrade that board and senior management for NSDAQ because this is no longer the Queensland Cup. There are so many clowns running around (an Australian dentist (madman on share scene), Retrophin under Shkreli, some suspect, "concert party" hedge funds) who have no idea what has been achieved and what remains to be done. This stuff is micro-management, persistence requiring the highest possible degree of credibility and operational focus. Regulators hate disruptions. Management disruptions, and all too frequent board shuffles are toxic and at best delay regulatory procedures. At worst they can derail them entirely. I have hired and fired hundreds of senior executives. Those wannabe entrepreneurs offer nothing but populistic generic hogwash. Madman has a sharp mind, but stick to the research Mr. Jones. I like what I read from you and Poontz as well, but get the big picture....grasp the complexity.
The Human Dimension:
I do not own a single share. I will not own a single share. I used to serve Mammon. I have zero motivation to pump CUV. I want millions to be treated and cured. I want people to be hopeful. My masters are God, Jesus and Mary. I am so grateful Scenesse was approved. I wish all of you great fortunes with CUV, but give some back to great causes when you cash in that CUV check. On a fifteen year viewpoint, Scenesse may even succeed to help those most likely to contract skin cancer. Vitiligo is very damaging emotionally. EPP suicide rates are very, very high. At least half of those obtaining organ transplants get skin cancer. Hundreds of thousands of lives may be saved, millions will improve. Many of these folks have been without hope. That is what pleases me most. CUV gives hope, not just superior investment returns. It gives me a kick, that between all the raids, dozens of IPOs, short sales, VC deals and so forth there is this one company which makes me happy to bee associated with: Clinuvel. How often in life can you invest and reap a serious fortune and do something really good at the same time? Well? I have done hundreds of deals in a thirty year career. Such a benign and virtuous mix is incredibly rare: once in a lifetime for me. So you intense investors.....do not forget the human dimension and consider if CUV becomes this multi-bagger as I am predicting (anybody who had bought Rogue Financier and bought CUV shares would have made more than 300 percent), give to those in need and those who are less fortunate than you.
Viel Glück
Florian

http://www.clinuvel.com/index.php?option=com_k2&Itemid=13&id…

Also was soll schon passieren...

We hold a significant stake in Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals which, could pose significant risks to our financial position and our stockholders.
On July 17, 2014, we made a proposal to the board of directors of Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals Limited ("Clinuvel") to acquire all of the
outstanding shares of Clinuvel for either 0.175 shares of common stock of the Company or $2.03 in cash per share for an aggregate purchase
price of approximately $89 million. The proposal was rejected and as of December 31, 2014, we have invested approximately $9.6 million and
acquired approximately 6.5% of the outstanding shares of Clinuvel as part of the proposal process. As of March 2, 2015, the Company owned
approximately 6.1% of the outstanding shares of Clinuvel. The Company's intention is liquidate portions of our Clinuvel investment and use the
cash generated from stock sales for working capital purposes. Due to the market for Clinuvel's stock, the Company may not be able to readily
liquidate our investment in Clinuvel, as a result, the Company may need to obtain additional equity and/or debt financing to fund operations. Our goal is ultimately to dispose of our shares in Clinuvel and realize gains upon our disposition of such shares. However, the shares we receive may
not appreciate in value and, in fact, may decline value. Accordingly, we may not be able to realize gains from our interest in Clinuvel, and any
gains that we do realize on the disposition of any shares may not be sufficient to offset any other losses we experience

SUMMARY
Clinuvel expands pipeline with VLRX001 targeting skin disorders
First therapeutic target: vitiligo (depigmentation disorder) as maintenance therapy following SCENESSE® (afamelanotide 16mg)
Innovation is the result of collaboration between Clinuvel and the international research community
Proprietary technology of VALLAURIX PTE LTD, a majority-owned Clinuvel subsidiary
Recent clinical research has demonstrated a renaissance in the demand for novel melanocortin molecules
Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals Ltd (ASX: CUV; XETRA: UR9; ADR: CLVLY) today announced that its Singaporean subsidiary VALLAURIX PTE LTD has successfully completed initial in-vitro development of VLRX001, an innovative melanocortin analogue. VLRX001 is an addition to Clinuvel’s product pipeline alongside CUV9900 and SCENESSE® (afamelanotide 16mg), which was recently granted marketing authorisation by the European Commission for the rare disease erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP).
CLINICAL USE
Formulation work will focus on the development of VLRX001 for topical self-administration by patients. The transdermal product will initially be evaluated as adjuvant maintenance therapy in the depigmentation disorder vitiligo. SCENESSE® is currently being evaluated as a subcutaneous medicinal product for repigmentation in vitiligo patients. Clinuvel published its first vitiligo results in 2012/13.
RATIONALE FOR INNOVATION
The VLRX001 development work was undertaken through Clinuvel’s majority owned Singaporean subsidiary, VALLAURIX and has leveraged the knowledge gained from long term experience with the clinical use of SCENESSE®.
It has long been acknowledged that melanocortins have a ubiquitous application in medicine. A renaissance in the demand for novel melanocortin molecules has been seen in clinical research, with more than 400 peer reviewed publications on the use of melanocortins over the past 24 months.
KNOWHOW AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
Long term collaboration between Clinuvel’s scientific teams and research groups at prestigious institutes and universities led to the innovation of VLRX001.
VALLAURIX was able to harness the knowhow in melanocortins from IP and data generated in pharmacology studies and clinical use of SCENESSE® by Clinuvel’s global teams. Overall, the development of VLRX001 is part of Clinuvel’s life cycle management of its portfolio of products to ensure long term use and value of its technology and assets.
Patent applications on VLRX001 have been filed in the commercially relevant jurisdictions. Clinuvel will hold all rights to the final product and indications through VALLAURIX. Formulation work will commence this year.
VLRX001 is the second novel molecule to be evaluated by VALLAURIX. The first, CUV9900, has been developed as the first reference standard for evaluating pharmacological properties such as binding affinity, potency and cellular signalling.
NOVEL PHARMACOLOGY
VLRX001 is an addition to the family of melanocortin analogues which provoke increased and prolonged cellular activity. It contains a specific peptide sequence, designed to make it less susceptible to degradation than physiologic (natural) alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH).
COMMENTARY
“Many biotech and pharmaceutical companies commence the development of novel products but the complexity of human biological response and regulatory pathway see many of these fail along the road,” Clinuvel’s Acting Chief Scientific Officer, Dr Dennis Wright said. “It is a privilege to be part of a team which has delivered success through SCENESSE®.
“With VLRX001 we now have a logical follow-on product which we hope will act synergistically and be complementary to SCENESSE® in the treatment of vitiligo, a disease which is notoriously difficult to treat and deserves a range of therapeutic approaches,” Dr Wright said.
“Over the past year the management of Clinuvel have successfully transformed the Company from being an R&D house with a prospective regulatory outcome, to one with a commercial product lending its validation to second generation technology with wide applications,” Clinuvel’s Chairman, Mr Stan McLiesh said. “It has been Clinuvel’s key objective to retain the proprietary rights to the new technology.
“Our scientific and commercial progress stems from many years of interaction and dialogue with physicians and patients, and our teams have consistently taken a staunch approach to the opinions of global experts. I am certain that the corollary of Clinuvel’s work will result not only in clinical worth but in sustained shareholder value even in Australia, a market still lacking full appreciation of its biotech companies,” Mr McLiesh said.

A synthetic hormone developed by faculty at the University of Arizona Cancer Center and the UA’s Colleges of Medicine and Science nearly three decades ago will be featured in a story airing on NBC's Dateline on Sunday, June 14.
"Out of the Shadows" documents the diverse cases of children diagnosed with Erythropoietic Protoporphyria (EPP), a disorder that leaves them in severe pain when exposed to direct sunlight and UV rays, and Xeroderma Pigmentosum (XP), an illness with potentially fatal consequences.
The program will interview a handful of patients who took part in European clinical trials of the UA-developed pigmentation drug, afamelanotide (trade name: Scenesse)—first discovered at the University of Arizona Cancer Center in the mid-1980s.
The molecule was developed, patented and initially tested at the UA under the name afamelanotide by Victor Hruby, PhD, Regents Professor Emeritus of chemistry and biochemistry; Robert Dorr, PhD, Leader of the UACC’s Therapeutic Development Program and professor of medical pharmacology in the UA’s College of Medicine-Tucson; and the late Mac Hadley, PhD, a UA cell biology and anatomy professor. The UA licensed the molecule to a predecessor company, Melanotan Inc., in 1995.
In October 2014, afamelanotide was approved for patients in Europe, but it is still awaiting FDA approval in the United States.
EPP is a rare genetic disease found mainly in people with fair skin. It is characterized by intolerance to light and results in pain, swelling, burning and scarring of sun-exposed areas of skin. People with this condition are often forced to remain indoors during daylight hours. As many as 10,000 people suffer from EPP worldwide, with approximately 45 percent of them in Europe. EPP is considered the most common form of porphyria in children.
"The discovery and development of this melanotropin compound for treatment of skin disorders and related medical applications had tremendous significance because it was a first of its kind and involved the very close collaboration of chemists, biologists and medical doctors who brought similar excitement and creativity to the problem but from different perspectives. These perspectives were all critical to the eventual success. Without this enthusiastic collaboration it would not have happened," Dr. Hruby said.
Dr. Dorr adds that this is the first melanotropin ever produced, and that the American Porphyria Foundation is pushing for the FDA to fast-track the drug’s approval in the U.S.
Dateline's "Out of the Shadows" airs Sunday, June 14 at 7 p.m. on NBC.

Beitrag aus US Forum!
Let's recap -
For calendar year 2016 - Here are my estimates was EPP by itself (no value or exp for other indications).
Patients X Implants X Cost of each Implant = Revenues
1000 X 4 X $5,500 = $22,000,000 (low end)
2000 X 4 X $10,000 = $80,000,000 (high end)
For calendar year 2017
2000 X 4 X $5,500 = $44,000,000 (low end)
4000 X 4 X $10,000 = $160,000,000 (high end)
Here is what will not happen -
There will be no more capital raising at these prices. The company can now borrow money if they need it and then pay off the loan with future revenues. They can also do a capital raise when the stock price increases. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN AT THIS LOW OF A PRICE!
2 Implants per year talk. Anyone with this disease who tries Scenesse will want to continue using the drug as much as possible. Who wants to go from milky white to tan, and then back to milky white. 6 implants per year is possible.

Grund genug also alles andere als

http://www.asx.com.au/asxpdf/20150730/pdf/43047s3bph71zm.pdf
Quartal:
http://www.asx.com.au/asxpdf/20150731/pdf/43057j5kw1f00c.pdf

Mir fehlt da schlicht und einfach das know how um so was einzuschätzen.

Dann berechne dir mal dein Potenzial.

SCENESSE

released for European Distribution
Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee reviews Post Authorisation Safety Study
[PASS]
Leatherhead, UK and Melbourne, Australia,September 21, 2015
Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals Limited (ASX: CUV;ADR:CLVLY; XETRA
AX)announces today that the European Medicines Agency’s (EMA’s)
Pharmacovigilance and Risk Committee (PRAC)
has
agreed to a Post Authorisation Safety Study (PASS) protocol, allowing
SCENESSE® (afamelanotide 16mg) to be released for the commercial supply to adult patients diagnosed with erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP). While SCENESSE® was granted European marketing authorisation by the European Commission on 22 December 2014, it has taken a further nine
months to gain agreement on the proposed PASS protocol.
PHARMACOVIGILANCE
As part of the marketing authorisation, Clinuvel and the EMA agreed
upon a Risk Management Plan (RMP) to monitor the safety of SCENESSE® in
EPP patients.
The PASS protocol, which forms part of the RMP, determines the collection of patient medical data for the assessment of long-term safety.
Measures to monitor the ongoing real-life effectiveness of the product have also been adopted in the PASS protocol.
EUROPEAN EPP DISEASE REGISTRY
Clinuvel has established a centralised European EPP Disease Registry (EEDR) with a leading European university medical centre. While Clinuvel undertakes to protect the privacy of patients at all times, the EEDR will allow the electronic collection and processing of encrypted (pseudonymised) medical data for periodic analyses. The
registry also provides information on the controlled distribution of SCENESSE® and the long-term ongoing use of SCENESSE® throughout Europe.
Clinuvel has committed to provide periodic safety updates at a def
ined frequency, and annual reports on the safety and use of SCENESSE®
from data collected in the disease registry. Prior to treatment being made available, Clinuvel trains each eligible medical centre and its staff on the use of SCENESSE® and the handling of data for the
EEDR. These centres are then accredited to prescribe SCENESSE® and
are subject to close and regular monitoring to ensure compliance with the requirements of the PASS protocol.
EUROPEAN DISTRIBUTION OF SCENESSE®
Following European product testing Clinuvel distributes SCENESSE® to the accredited centres through direct shipment. Analytical services related to product release and pharmacovigilance services are managed by independent third parties.
Market access, pricing and reimbursement of SCENESSE® is subject to
review by national competent authorities and insurers in each individual European country.
This final step must be taken before SCENESSE® is made available for the treatment of patients.
COMMENTARY
“In establishing the post-authorisation programme for SCENESSE®
we sought to balance the EMA’s request for ongoing data collection with the burden these measures place on patients and medical staff,
and the resources needed to monitor the requirements of the PASS protocol,” Clinuvel’s Acting Chief Scientific Officer, Dr Dennis Wright said.
“Now that a long - term agreement has been reached with EMA we can focus on implementing processes which enable EPP patients to gain access to a much needed treatment,” Dr Wright said.
“It has been challenging for all involved to see the product released
following the submission for European marketing authorisation,” Clinuvel’s Chairman, Mr Stan McLiesh said. “Sadly, for many of the EPP patients this has been a long period of anxiety a
nd distress. It is our hope that the current season has been the last season for patients to suffer from the severe symptoms and restrictions imposed by EPP.
“The controlled distribution of SCENESSE® requires a specialised and proficient organisation to oversee, and as pricing and reimbursement agreements are reached we are making SCENESSE® available in each relevant European country,” Mr McLiesh concluded.
