      Weitere Projekte in

Tertiary Minerals anticipates ‘good news’ on several fronts in 2008

      * Expectations Of Revival At Ghurayyah Tantalum-Niobium Project In Saudi
      * Renewed Exploration Activity Underway On Nordic Projects
      * Company Applies For Two Advanced Deposits

AIM-listed Tertiary Minerals plc looks to 2008 as a year of promise. “We have much to look forward to”, says Mr Patrick Cheetham in his chairman’s statement for the year ended September 30, 2007. “In addition to expectations of the revival of the Ghurayyah project, renewed exploration of the company’s Nordic projects is underway and valuable new projects are in the pipeline. We expect to be in a position to deliver good news on a number of fronts in 2008”, he states.

Commenting on renewal of its exploration rights at Ghurayyah, Mr Cheetham says Tertiary has maintained its efforts towards achieving this objective in conjunction with its Saudi investment partners and the Saudi Ministry for Petroleum and Mineral Resources. The latter is now processing a new exploration licence application for the giant tantalum-niobium-rare earth project, and the Board “continues to believe that its exploration rights at Ghurayyah will be renewed.” The Board also recognises that market expectations have been badly affected by the licence delay.

The chairman expresses satisfaction that the company’s good relationship with its Saudi investment partners has been maintained during this period of uncertainty, highlighted by their agreement to accelerate their financial contributions to Ghurayyah once a new licence is issued.

Other positive developments during the year have been the price increases for the two main components of the Ghurayyah deposit, tantalum and niobium, and the realisation that the ore also contains significant quantities of heavy rare-earth metals, including dysprosium. This is much in demand at present for use in the magnets that are an essential component of propulsion systems for hybrid vehicles and represents a significant additional revenue opportunity for the project, says Mr Cheetham.

Because of the company’s commitment to Ghurayyah and the spin-out of its diamond projects into Sunrise Diamonds plc in late 2005, Tertiary assigned lower priority to its Nordic Country projects in 2006. The delays at Ghurrayyah, however, have allowed the company to re-focus on some of its projects in this region, with pleasing results, says the chairman.

It recently announced positive results from first drilling at its Sivakkelehto magnetite iron ore project at Kolari in Finland, with magnetite content of 20p.c.-50p.c. intersected over substantial widths at relatively shallow depths. Tertiary says it is now targeting a large open-pitable body of magnetite ore for sale to local markets, noting that, whilst the European market for iron ore is large, domestic production is small. Requirements are largely met by ore shipped at considerable cost from the southern hemisphere. “The cost advantages for a European iron producer would be significant”, the chairman states.

Tertiary also signed an earn-in/JV agreement with Canada’s Inmet Mining Corporation in respect of its Vahajoki copper-gold-iron project, also in Finland. This allows exploration of this “exciting property” to proceed with no immediate cost to Tertiary. Further work is also planned on other Nordic Country projects, including Kaareselka (gold), Ahmavuoma (copper-gold) and Rosendal (tantalum).

Additional exploration opportunities continued to be evaluated in 2007, leading to the company’s possible involvement in two new projects. It has applied for exploration rights over new areas in Sweden and Namibia where it expects “potentially commercial resources can be defined at relatively low cost.”

Tertiary maintained its interest in Sunrise Diamonds, although this has been diluted to 16.5p.c. by share issues during the year.

A loss of £871,964 is reported for the year to end-September compared with a re-stated loss of £255,583 in 2005-06. The increased deficit includes a provision of £567,518 for the full carrying value of the Ghurayyah project pending renewal of the exploration rights on terms acceptable to the company. – Edited Press Release
