Nakilat posts higher profit in Q4

Qatar’s Nakilat, the world’s largest LNG shipper, posted a net profit of 226 million riyals (US$62m) for the fourth quarter of 2015, an increase of 12.1% as compared to 2014.

Nakilat’s net profit of 984 million riyals in 2015 rose 10 percent as compared to the year before, the LNG shipping company said in a statement on Thursday.

“Nakilat’s operations have achieved a higher profitability level by growing business streams through the addition of three new LNG vessels to Nakilat’s LNG fleet during 2015, full operation of vessels acquired during 2014, optimization of operating expenses and leveraging lower finance costs,” the statement said.

Nakilat also said its Board recommended paying a cash dividend to the shareholders equal to 12.5% of the nominal value of its capital, which is equivalent to 1.25 riyals per share.

The company added it will exploit future opportunities to acquire new business opportunities, serving the international marine sector, and to increase the utilization rate for the shipyard facilities at Erhama Bin Jaber Al Jalahma shipyard.

Nakilat’s profit climbs in Q1

Qatar’s Nakilat, the world’s largest LNG shipper, said its net profit rose by 7.9% percent in the first quarter as compared to the same period last year.

Nakilat posted a net profit of 240 million riyals (US$66m) for the first quarter, compared to 222 million riyals in 2015.

The increase in the company’s profits reflects the “strong growth of Nakilat’s operating activities in transporting LNG, and better performance of its LPG vessels,” Nakilat said on Tuesday.

Nakilat’s total revenue of 906 million riyals rose by 3.7% as compared to the same period a year before.

Qatar’s Nakilat posts higher H1 profit

Qatar’s Nakilat, the world’s largest LNG shipper, said its net profit rose 2 percent in the first half of this year as compared to the same period a year ago.

The LNG shipping giant posted a net profit of 501 million riyals (US$138m) for the first half, compared to 491 million riyals in 2015.

Earnings per Share (EPS) amounted to 0.90 riyals versus 0.89 riyals for the same period of the previous year.

Nakilat said in a statement on Wednesday the increase in its profits reflects the “strong growth of Nakilat’s operating activities in transporting LNG, and better performance of its LPG vessels”.

However, Nakilat’s net profit in the second quarter of 2016 dropped 2.8 percent on year to 260.3 million riyals, LNG World News calculations based on previous Nakilat’s financial reports showed.

Nakilat’s fleet of 67 wholly- and jointly-owned LNG and four LPG vessels comprises one of the world’s largest gas fleets.

The LNG vessels represent a total investment of approximately $11 billion and have a combined carrying capacity of over 8.5 million cubic meters or 15% of the world capacity, according to Nakilat’s website.

Qatar’s Nakilat, the world’s largest LNG shipper, said its nine-month net profit dropped 1.1 percent as compared to the same period a year ago.


The LNG shipping giant reported a net profit of 749 million riyals (US$199.6 m) for the January-September period, compared to 757 million riyals in 2015.

Nakilat said in a statement on Sunday that the company’s “strategic long-term charters for its LNG vessels and the strong LPG vessels performance have ensured the continuous strong financial profitability despite the current market conditions of fluctuating oil and gas prices and the slowdown in ship repair and building activities.”

Nakilat’s net profit in the third quarter of this year dropped 7 percent on year to 247.8 million riyals, LNG World News calculations based on previous Nakilat’s financial reports showed.

The Qatari company’s fleet is the largest in the world comprising of 67 wholly- and jointly-owned LNG and four LPG vessels.

The LNG vessels represent a total investment of approximately $11 billion and have a combined carrying capacity of over 8.5 million cubic meters or 15% of the world capacity, according to Nakilat’s website.

Nakilat takes over its LNG fleet management from Shell


Qatari LNG shipping company, Nakilat, and Hague-based LNG giant Shell have agreed to begin the planned phased transition of the management of Nakilat’s LNG fleet.

Shell’s unit, Shell International Trading and Shipping Company, has provided shipping services to Nakilat’s LNG fleet since it was established in 2006, which includes 14 Q-Max and 11 Q-Flex LNG carriers.

Under the agreement, the vessels will be transitioned in three phases, starting this year, to Nakilat’s ship management unit, Nakilat Shipping Qatar Limited (NSQL), that currently manages four LPG carriers and four Q-Flex LNG carriers, Nakilat said in a statement on Wednesday.

Studies and preparations have been carried out by Nakilat to ensure the management of the vessels.

According to Nakilat, this will be the world’s largest transition of an LNG fleet operation.

The fleet of Nakilat’s wholly-owned 25 vessels that will be transitioned to NSQL, has so far delivered over 320 million cubic meters of LNG from Qatar to over 20 countries.

The vessels have travelled 17 million nautical miles – the equivalent of over 780 trips around the equator’s circumference, Nakilat noted in the statement.

Nakilat’s current fleet stands at 63 wholly- and jointly-owned LNG carriers making it the world’s largest LNG shipping company.

Nakilat’s profit edges down

Qatar’s Nakilat, the world’s largest LNG shipper, said its net profit for the year 2016 dropped 3 percent compared to the previous year.

Nakilat reported a net profit of 955 million Qatari riyals (Approx: US$262.3 million) compared to 984 million Qatari riyals (Approx: $270.2 million) the previous year.

In its report on Monday, Nakilat said its long-term contracts continue to underpin the company’s strong financial performance despite the challenging market conditions.

The company’s LNG vessels are chartered through long-term time charter agreements with Qatargas and RasGas.

“The decline in oil and gas prices and overcapacity in the shipping industry has placed a downward pressure on the shipping markets and asset prices,” the company said.

Nakilat’s nine-month net profit drops

Qatar’s Nakilat, the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipper, saw its net profit in the January-September period fall 19 percent.

Nakilat reported a nine-month net profit of 607 million riyals ($161.8m), compared with 749 million riyals in the same period last year.

The Doha-based LNG shipping giant said in a statement that lower scrap value of its vessels and the lower number of charter hire days were one of the main reasons for the profit drop.

Nakilat’s revenues slid 4 percent on year in the period under review to 2.77 billion riyals ($738.6m).

Earnings per share were at 1.09 riyals in the nine-month period compared to 1.35 riyals for the same period of the previous year.

Nakilat’s fleet comprises of 67 wholly- and jointly-owned LNG and four LPG vessels.

The company’s LNG vessels are chartered through long-term deals with Qatari LNG producers, Qatargas and RasGas.

Nakilat reports net profit drop

Qatar’s Nakilat, the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipper, reported an 11 percent drop in its net profit for the year 2017.

Qatar Gas Transport Company Limited (Nakilat) reported a net profit of 846.2 million Qatari Riyals ($232.5 million) compared to net profit amounting to 954.2 million Qatari Riyals for the same period of the previous year.

The company noted that during the year it has deployed its plans to maintain its position in global LNG transport as well as the country’s LNG supply chain.

“Despite the challenges facing the energy and maritime industry, the company managed to achieve positive results across its operations that exceeded planned expectations in 2017,” the statement reads.

Additionally, the net profit achieved in the fourth quarter of 2017 was higher than that achieved in the third quarter of 2017 and fourth quarter of 2016, by 21 percent and 16 percent respectively.

The company’s revenue for the period reached 3.6 billion riyals ($994 million), 4 percent below the 3.75 billion riyals in 2016.

Nakilat said it is continuing to explore different business opportunities and mitigating business risks to strengthen the company’s international position in the LNG shipping industry.
