UMS Reports Triple-Digit Revenue and Earnings Growth in the First Six Months of 2001

Group revenues grow by 154% in the first half of the year / EBIT (up 260%) and net income (up 346%) also experience above-average growth

Hamburg, August 27, 2001. UMS International AG, the provider of mobile healthcare concepts for innovative medical technology, published its 2001 mid- year report today, again showing growth rates in the triple digits. Group revenues more than doubled over the same period in the previous year, increasing by 154%, from EURO 7.9 million to EURO 20.1 million. Gross profits improved by 159%, from EURO 3.3 million to EURO 8.5 million. The earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) also reflects above-average growth: Increasing by +260%, it more than tripled and grew from EURO 0.9 million in the previous year to EURO 3.3 million. At the same time, the six-month net income of EURO 0.3 million increased by 346%, to EURO 1.4 million.

"These numbers confirm the continued positive growth at UMS and the long-term success of our innovative business model," states Walter Langer, CEO of the Hamburg-based company. "We are very satisfied with the way our business has progressed." The figures show that growth in the Urology business segment exceeded expectations, increasing by 75%, from EURO 6,4 million to EURO 11.1 million. Of this amount, EURO 6.1 million is attributable to the second quarter of 2001 alone. The successful expansion of the Companys business in the North American market played a significant role, where the Company experienced rapid market penetration and increased its investments in new systems. The Gynecology and Orthopedics business segments also posted triple-digit growth rates, both with an increase of 140%. The technologies being used in these segments are state-of-the-art and are contributing to growth in Europe as well, because of their efficiency.

Of special note is the Radiology business segment, which posted revenues of EURO 5.3 million in the first half of 2001. The use of the revolutionary PET technology, such as in the first mobile PET system in Europe, will open up further growth opportunities for UMS. The Company will take advantage of these opportunities to further expand the position as market leader that it already enjoys. An important milestone in this regard is the Companys investment in PET Scans of America Corp., which will also stimulate growth in the future.

The Companys planned expansion into Scandinavia and Switzerland in the medium term will further advance the Companys regional presence in Europe. The UMS Group expects strong growth in the remainder of the year with significant effects on revenues and earnings.
