As the day begins





Silently closing her bedroom door





Leaving the note that she hoped would say no more





She goes downstairs to the kitchen








Clutching her handkerchief





Quietly turning the back door key





Stepping outside she is free

nur ein paar Monate früher (B-Seite von Dead End Street, November 1966) als von den Beatles (Sergeant Pepper erschien am 1. Juni 1967)

Oh ja... selbes Thema... kannte den Song bisher nicht, jedenfalls nicht bewusst. Ich muss aber zu Hause mal nachschauen - ich hab noch 2 Sampler mit ganz alten Kinks-Aufnahmen, die ich noch nicht durchgehört habe, vielleicht ist es ja dabei.

zu den Purple Hearts, die in dem Kinks Song vorkommen

Drug Stories - Mods, Punks and Dexys

In the 1960s teenagers and more specifically mods enjoyed Dexedrine (dexies / dexy`s midnight runners ), Durophet (blackbombers) and Drinamyl (Purple Hearts after their blue and triangular shape) which combined amphetamine and barbiturate in one handy pill.

Society was not best pleased by these reckless drug-addled teens and by 1964 it was illegal to possess or import amphetamines. But - doh - manufacturing and prescription were still okay. The Drinamyl Purple Heart was reshaped and renamed French Blues and continued to sell.
