In Florida, President Bush Applauds Men And Women Standing For Cause of Freedom

THE PRESIDENT: Thanks for coming. Thanks for the warm welcome. (Applause.) It is great to be back in Florida -- it is great to be back in Florida with the fine men and women of MacDill Air Force Base. (Applause.) I told my dad I was coming here today, and he suggested I drop in by parachute. (Laughter.) I told him I thought I`d wait for my 80th birthday. (Laughter.)

With us today by satellite are American servicemen and women in Afghanistan and Iraq. (Applause.) You are stationed in faraway lands, but you`re always in the thoughts of your fellow Americans. You face hard duty. You`ve endured the heat of the Persian Gulf, and the harsh winters of Central Asia. You`re serving with honor and pride. You`re making our country safer, and your country is proud of you. Thank you for your service. (Applause.)

I also know that we`re on Armed Forces radio and TV. We`re carried to bases and ships around the world. Wherever your duty has taken you, I want you to know that you are a part of a great force for good in this world. The defense of our country, the security of our friends, and the peace of the world depend on you. Thank you for working hard, and for bringing credit and honor to the United States military. (Applause.)

I want to thank General Lance Smith, and his wife, Linda. I want to thank General John Abizaid, who is not with us today, and his wife, Kathy. I want to thank General Doug Brown. I want to thank Colonel Brian Kelly, and his wife, Susan. I want to thank a member of my Cabinet who`s traveled here, a veteran of the United States military, the Secretary for the Department of Veteran Affairs, Secretary Tony Principi. (Applause.)

Some day you`ll be veterans. Our government will honor our commitment to our veterans, past, present and future. (Applause.)

I want to thank Mayor Pam Iorio for being here today, the Mayor of Tampa, Florida; and Mayor Rick Baker, the Mayor of St. Petersburg, Florida. Thank you all for coming today. I`m honored you`re here. And thank you for providing such important support for the men and women who wear our nation`s uniform. (Applause.)

I want to thank my friends, Darryl Worley and Mark Willis, for being here today. These boys can sing. (Applause.) I know we`ve got people from the Tampa Bay Lightning here. (Applause.) It seems like it would be hard to skate on ice in this kind of weather. (Laughter.) But I know the general manager, Jay Feaster, is with us, and John Tortorella, the coach, is with us. Congratulations on being champs. (Applause.)

I just had the honor of meeting Master Sergeant Gina Carnesecchi on Air Force One. I`ll tell you why I want to bring up Gina. She is a veteran of -- she`s been deployed -- let me put it to you that way. She came back, she helped start Operation Lighthouse, here at MacDill. It`s a program to encourage troops and their families. She helped to organize care packages and make sure families are able to communicate with a loved one abroad. She`s a volunteer. She serves our nation as a Master Sergeant. In her spare time, she volunteers to help make somebody`s life better.

You see, the strength of America is the hearts and souls of the American people. The strength of this country is because we`ve got thousands of people from all walks of life who have heard the universal call to love a neighbor just like they would like to be loved themselves. For those of you who are helping to make somebody`s life better, I thank you on behalf of a grateful nation. (Applause.)

MacDill is the home of the U.S. Central Command. The Command was activated in the early 1980s. Back then, America needed CENTCOM to help protect our allies from aggression and to support Afghan freedom fighters. Now, at the start of a new century, the men and women of CENTCOM have liberated two nations, and have rescued more than 50 million people from tyranny. (Applause.) Today your nation is counting on you to ensure the defeat of terrorists, to secure America, and to advance freedom throughout the Middle East. That`s our mission.

I`m grateful to the fine men and women of the 6th Air Mobility Wing, which established the "air bridge" that got troops and supplies into the theaters of operations. Some of you deployed to Iraq with the 447th Air Expeditionary Group. Your job was to move cargo and passengers in and out of the Baghdad International Airport every day. Last Thanksgiving, I was one of those passengers, and I appreciated the on-time arrival. (Applause.)

MacDill is also the headquarters for our quiet warriors, the United States Special Operations Command. (Applause.) It is the nature of Special Ops that many of your victories are unseen and must remain secret -- but I know about them. (Laughter.) Our Special Operations force are the worst nightmare of America`s worst enemies, and you`re making us proud. (Applause.)

All who wear the uniform can know that America appreciates your service and your sacrifice. Our government owes you more than gratitude. I made a commitment to the men and women of our military, a commitment to their loved ones: You will have the resources you need to fight and win the war on terror. (Applause.)

Here at CENTCOM, the Coalition Village flies the flags of 65 nations that are doing their part in the war on terror. On behalf of our country, I thank all of friends and allies for serving with America in the cause of freedom. (Applause.)

I last came to MacDill during the first week of operation Iraqi Freedom. In that battle, we and our allies acted with speed and precision to destroy a brutal regime, while sparing innocent Iraqis. Our coalition showed the world, when we see a threat to America and our friends, we will take decisive action. (Applause.) And when we promise to act, we mean exactly what we say. (Applause.)

Because America and our allies acted, one of the most brutal, evil regimes is gone forever. (Applause.) This was a regime that tortured children in front of their parents. This was a regime that used chemical weapons against whole villages. It gave cash rewards to families of suicide bombers. It sheltered terrorist groups. Iraq was a country in which millions of people lived in fear, and many thousands disappeared into mass graves. That was the life in Iraq for more than a generation, until the Americans arrived. (Applause.) Because America and our allies acted, an aggressive threat to the security of the Middle East and to the peace of the world is gone forever. America is safer because Saddam Hussein sits in a prison cell. (Applause.)

When our forces were bringing down the dictator and his regime, I said here at MacDill that our work would not end with the liberation of Iraq. I pledged that we would help the Iraqi people to find the benefits and assume the duties of self-government. We`re keeping our commitment.

All of you understand that freedom in Iraq and freedom in Afghanistan have deadly and determined enemies. Our men and women in those countries are fighting freedom`s enemies with skill and courage. You`re showing great respect for the holy sites of those countries. You`re helping to bring opportunity and security to nations that have known years of cruel oppression. These are difficult tasks, but they are essential tasks. (Applause.) By fighting the terrorists in distant lands, you are making sure your fellow citizens do not face them here at home. (Applause.) By helping the rise of democracy in Iraq, in Afghanistan, and throughout the world, you are giving people an alternative to bitterness and hatred, and that is essential to the peace of the world.

Yesterday, President Karzai of Afghanistan came to the White House and to the U.S. Capitol, and thanked the American people for helping to free his country and for being a friend to the Afghan people. The President of Iraq came to America last week and expressed his gratitude for the sacrifices of the American people and our troops. These two Presidents, and the nations they serve, know the character of the American Armed Forces, They`re seeing the nature of your mission, as well. We have come not to conquer, but to liberate people, and we will stand with them until their freedom is secure. (Applause.)

We`re moving forward with our five-point plan for Iraqi self-government. We`re handing over authority to a sovereign Iraqi government. We`re encouraging more international support for Iraq`s political transition. We`re helping Iraqis take responsibility for their own security. We`re continuing to rebuild Iraq`s infrastructure, and we`re helping Iraq move to free elections. A turning point will come two weeks from today. On June the 30th, governing authority will be transferred to a fully sovereign interim government, the Coalition Provisional Authority will cease to exist, an American embassy will open in Baghdad. (Applause.)

Iraq`s new leaders are rising to their responsibilities. Together with our coalition and the United Nations, they are working to prepare the way for national elections by next January. In July, Iraqis from every part of the country will gather for a national conference that will choose an interim national council to advise and support Prime Minister Allawi and his cabinet. The U.N. Security Council has voted unanimously to endorse the Iraqi interim government and the plan for Iraq`s political transition. The Iraqi people are making steady progress, and we will not let thugs and killers stand in the way of a free and democratic Iraq. (Applause.)

As Iraq gains self-government, it is essential that Iraq gain the means of self-defense. So we`re now leading an international effort to help train Iraq`s new security forces. There are now more than 200,000 Iraqis on duty and in training in various branches of the Iraqi security forces. We`re working to build and strengthen Iraqi chains of command. We`ve learned from our experiences, Iraqi soldiers naturally want to take orders from Iraqi officers. So we`re helping to prepare a new generation of Iraqi military commanders, who will lead the security forces of a free and sovereign Iraq.

Those of you in Iraq are seeing results of your work. Iraqi police and Civil Defense Corps have recently captured several terrorists, including Umar Boziani, a key lieutenant of the terrorist named Zarqawi. Recently, in Mosul, the Civil Defense Corps successfully repelled attacks on government buildings. The U.S. commander on the ground, Brigadier General Carter Ham, said the Iraqi forces "stood strong." In Najaf, Iraqi police are now patrolling the streets. They`re being greeted warmly by their fellow citizens.

You see, these brave Iraqis are stepping up. They`re setting an example for their fellow citizens. They`re staying in the fight, taking the battle to the terrorists and Saddam holdouts. They are securing a future of liberty and opportunity for their children and their grandchildren. (Applause.) And when the history of modern Iraq is written, the people of Iraq will know their freedom was finally secured by the courage and by the determination of Iraqi patriots. (Applause.)

There are many challenges yet to come. We can expect more violence in the weeks and months ahead. But the future of a free Iraq is now coming into view. As the interim government assumes authority, and Iraqi security forces defend their country, our coalition will play a supporting role. And this is an essential part of our strategy for success. Terrorists who attack a self-governing Iraq are showing us and the Iraqis who they really are. They`re not fighting foreign forces; they`re fighting the Iraqi people. They`re not just enemies of America; they`re enemies of democracy and hope. They`re enemies of a peaceful future in Iraq. As Prime Minister Allawi of Iraq said last week, "Anyone involved in these attacks is nothing more than a traitor to the cause of Iraq`s freedom and the freedom of its people." He went on to say, "These are not freedom fighters. They are terrorists and foreign fighters opposed to our very survival as a free state."

The Prime Minister and I share the same resolve: The traitors will defeated. (Applause.) Their greatest fear is an Iraqi government of, by, and for the Iraqi people. And no matter what the terrorists plan, no matter what they attempt, a democratic, free Iraq is on the way. (Applause.)

At the same time, our coalition is helping the Iraqi people to rebuild the basic infrastructure of their country. This is work that America has done before. I want you to remember this. In 1947, two years after the Nazi surrender, there was still starvation in Germany. Reconstruction seemed to be faltering. The Marshall Plan had not yet begun. Soon Berlin would be blockaded, on the orders of Joseph Stalin. Some questioned whether a free and stable Germany could emerge from the rubble.

Fortunately, America and our allies were optimistic. They stood firm. We helped the German people overcome these challenges and resist the designs of the Soviet Union. We overcame many obstacles, because we knew that the only hope for a secure America was a peaceful and democratic Europe. And because we persevered, because we had faith in our values, because we were strong in the face of adversity, Germany became the stable, successful, great nation that it is today. (Applause.)

Fourteen months have passed since the fall of Baghdad. And today, in spite of terrorist insurgency, Iraq`s economy is moving forward. Markets are beginning to thrive; new businesses have opened; a stable new currency is in place. Dozens of political parties are organizing. Hundreds of courts of law are opening across the country. Today in Iraq, more than 170 newspapers are being published, and I saw the other day that they`ve even got talk radio. I don`t know if they`ve contacted Rush yet. (Laughter.)

Life is better in other ways for the people of Iraq. Electric power is being restored, and is no longer being distributed based on loyalty to Saddam Hussein`s regime. Our coalition has rehabilitated nearly 2,500 schools, and over 1,200 more should be completed by the end of the year. All of Iraq`s hospitals and most medical clinics are open and are serving the people. Since the liberation, the vast majority of Iraqi children under five years old have been vaccinated for polio, measles, tuberculosis, and other diseases. In the south of Iraq, our coalition is reflooding the wetlands that Saddam Hussein systematically drained to decimate the Marsh Arabs. We`re bringing back a 5,000-year civilization to life. (Applause.)

This summer will bring another milestone for our friends, the Iraqis. Under the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein, members of the Iraqi national soccer team were imprisoned and tortured when they failed to perform. Last month, inspired by love of country rather than the fear of a dictator, the Iraqi team won an upset victory over Saudi Arabia, and earned its first trip ever to compete in the Olympic Games. (Applause.) All countries gathered in Greece will be able to cheer for the athletes from a free Iraq. (Applause.)
With each step forward on the path to self-government and self-reliance, the terrorists will grow more desperate and more violent. They see Iraqis taking their country back. They see freedom taking root. The killers know they have no future in a free Iraq. They want America to abandon the mission and to break our word. So they`re attacking our soldiers and free Iraqis. They`re doing everything in their power to prevent the full transition to democracy. And we can expect more attacks in the coming few weeks, more car bombs, more suiciders, more attempts on the lives of Iraqi officials. But our coalition is standing firm. New Iraq`s leaders are not intimidated. I will not yield, and neither will the leaders of Iraq. (Applause.)

As the Iraqi President al-Yawar said last week, "They will try to increase the incidents and the violence for a while, but we`re committed, we`re consistent, we are focused."

The terrorists will fail. They will fail because the Iraqi people will not accept a return to tyranny. The terrorists will fail because the resolve of America and our allies will not be shaken. (Applause.) And the terrorists will fail because courageous men and women like you are standing in their way. (Applause.)

All who serve in the United States military -- in Iraq, in Afghanistan, and at points across America and around the world -- can take pride in the great work you have accepted. Your fellow citizens know that your work is not easy. The days are hot, your mission is hard. Many of you have faced long deployments, sometimes longer than you expected. You`ve missed your families; your families miss you. Some of you have lost comrades, good men and women you will never forget, and America will never forget them either.

You`re sacrificing greatly for our country, and our country has needed that sacrifice. By standing for the cause of freedom, you`re making our world more peaceful. By fighting terrorists abroad, you`re making the American people more secure here at home. And by acting in the best traditions of duty and honor, you`re making our country and your Commander-in-Chief incredibly proud.

May God bless you. And may God continue to bless America. (Applause.)

President Bush Promotes Plan to Stay on Cutting Edge of Technology

THE PRESIDENT: Thanks for the warm welcome. And it`s good to be here at the Commerce Department. Today, I want to talk about how to make sure America is the best place to do business in the world. How do we make sure that we`re always on the leading edge of change? And how do we utilize technology to improve the lives of our fellow citizens? That`s what we`re here to talk about.

Our economy is strong today. People are getting back to work. There`s an excitement amongst the risk takers, and capital is moving. I`m confident it`s going to get stronger as the days go on.

The fundamental question is, what do we need to do to make sure we`re not only strong today and tomorrow, but for the decades to come? That`s the real challenge that those of us in government face. One of the things that`s important for us to always remember is the proper role of government is not to try to be the generator of wealth. The proper role of government is to create the environment so that the entrepreneurial spirit is strong and vibrant and alive and well in America. That`s the proper role for those of us who have been given the high honor of serving the American people.

If you have an environment in which the entrepreneurial spirit is strong, innovation will follow. I equate innovation with entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurs are innovative people. They have to compete in order to stay in business, and in order to stay in business, in order to stay ahead of the competition, you`ve got to innovate. But government can help. We can encourage innovation in smart ways. We`re going to talk about some specific measures in which we can encourage and help the innovators succeed.

One thing we`ve got to do as we think about how to make sure America stays on the cutting edge of technology is always remember good tax policy helps innovation. See, if we want to be a nation of innovators, we don`t want to over-tax industry and commerce and the entrepreneurial spirit. It`s very important for Congress to understand this. It`s important for Congress to make sure that the tax relief we passed stays in place and not raise taxes on the American people.

Secondly, if we`re going to have an innovative society, we`ve got to have good legal policy. Frivolous and junk lawsuits make it awfully hard for people to feel comfortable risking capital. It`s one thing to have good and fair justice, which we all support, but the legal system must be balanced and fair. We don`t want to run capital away from the United States. We don`t want to discourage the innovators and those who take risks because they`re afraid of getting sued by a lawsuit.

We need tort reform. And Washington, D.C. is a good place to start with tort reform. We need class-action reform, asbestos reform, and medical liability reform now. (Applause.)

But we`ve also got to be competent in our trade policy. In order to be a nation of innovation, we`ve got to be willing to keep our markets open and insist that others open their markets to us. It`s that free-flow of goods and services and ideas that will make sure America stays on the leading edge of technological change.

So here are some ways that we can work with Congress through good legislative policy to make sure the environment is such that people are willing to take risks. Fortunately, we`ve got some members of Congress who understand exactly what I`m talking about. One would be Senator John Ensign from Wyoming. I appreciate you coming, Senator. (Applause.) And the other would be my friend from the great state of Texas, Lamar Smith. Congressman, it`s good to see you. Thank you for coming. (Applause.) He`s a rancher. (Laughter.) He`s got innovative cows. (Laughter.)

I`m sorry the Secretary is not here. He is a -- he knows what I`m talking about. He understands the proper relationship of government and risk-takers. I understand he`s in China. Good. Glad he`s working.

(Laughter.)

I want to thank Ted Kassinger for welcoming us here. I appreciate Ann Veneman, Secretary of Agriculture. She`s here for a reason, which you`ll hear about in a second. Plus, she wanted to hear the speech.

(Laughter.) Sam Bodman is the Deputy Secretary of Treasury, is here. You might remember him from the Commerce Department, he was the Deputy Secretary of Commerce. Sam, I`m sure they gave you a -- welcomed you back here.

I announced some measures that will keep our economy on the leading edge of innovation; I want to share some of those with you. The reason I want to share them with you is I want people to understand we`re serious about these proposals we have made, we expect and will continue to have good cooperation with the Congress on these measures.

First, long-term growth depends upon energy. You know, we need Congress to pass the energy plan I submitted. It`s a plan that says loud and clear, for the sake of economic security and for the sake of national security, we must be less dependent on foreign sources of energy. And we can find energy at home in environmentally friendly ways. We can do a better job of conservation. We can come up with alternative sources of energy. I constantly say to people, gosh, wouldn`t it be wonderful to be the President and say, how good is the corn crop, Madam Secretary? Oh, it`s really good -- that means we`re going to have more ethanol to take the place of -- (applause.) I mean, I`d like to grow our way out of dependence. Seems to make a lot of sense to be able to try to do that. And we`re working toward that end.

As well, I talked about a $1.2 billion, five dollar -- five year project on research into hydrogen fuel cell technology for cars and trucks. I want to thank the members of Congress for working together on that. This is the kind of project where government can spur innovation. It seems like a good use of taxpayers` money to encourage this kind of new innovation. Imagine what hydrogen fuel cell technology will mean for our dependence upon foreign sources of energy. Imagine how -- what a positive effect such technology will have on our environment. This is a very important technology. And I look forward to working with the Congress to make sure it`s well-funded and members of my administration to move the project forward.

We also talked about an interesting way to make sure health care costs are contained. In order to be a competitive environment, in order to be a place where people can do business here, in order to be a place where small businesses can flourish, we need to do a better job of controlling health care costs. There are some smart things we can do with association health plans, health savings accounts.

But one of the things we can do is use our technology in a better way to promote cost savings and quality of health care by the utilization of personal electronic medical records. It seems to make a lot of sense, doesn`t it, that instead of having people walking around with -- not necessarily proverbially walking around with -- (laughter) -- but imagine a patient who has been to a hospital a lot of times and there`s paperwork for every time the person goes. And if they would have to carry their own files around, it would become a cumbersome task, wouldn`t it.

Think about the overhead if you multiplied the task of filling out paper to satisfy information requirements at a hospital. Think about the overhead nationwide because our health system doesn`t use information technology properly. And think about how bad a doctor`s handwriting -- (laughter). And there`s no wonder sometimes there`s medical errors.

And so, therefore, I laid out a plan to ensure that most Americans have got electronic health records within the next 10 years so that our system is more cost effective, so we take out needless overhead costs and, at the same time, promote better quality medicine in America.

To achieve the goal of Tommy Thompson`s outfit, the Health and Human Services has developed a language, a common language, so that health care providers can now speak more clearly across the Internet. We`ve developed new standards. We`re funding demonstration projects. We`re using programs such as Medicare and the veterans health -- the veterans hospitals to promote a better use of information technology to make sure that health care is a -- adopts the habits of the 21st century.

Today, I want to talk about the need, as well, to make sure that leading technology is available all across the country. Sometimes the problem we face here in America is that technology is available in maybe just the big cities. And you get out to rural Wyoming or rural Texas, and people try to figure out what you`re talking about when it comes to new technologies. What we`re interested in is to make sure broadband technology is available in every corner of America by the year 2007. I mean, all over the nation is what we`re interested in. (Applause.)

Broadband, or what they call high-speed Internet, is critical in making our high-speed economy even more productive. That`s what people have got to understand. You see, some people say, what do you mean when you say, broadband? Well, broadband is the capacity to move information a lot quicker and to move more information a lot quicker. As a matter of fact, broadband is four to 100 times faster than dial-up access. So in other words, if you -- if you have your -- if you`re on a -- just a dial-up phone for your computer, imagine information getting to you a hundred times quicker. That means more information can move quicker.

And that`s important in order to make sure the economy and our citizens are more productive. Broadband saves costs throughout the economy. In other words, it makes the economy more efficient. Imagine how efficient businesses will be when they`re that far away from their customer. That`s what broadband technology will enable us to do.

Listen, we`ve been a very productive economy, a very productive society. What I`m telling you is we can be more productive for the good of our citizens. And the more productive of work there is, the more productive a person is, the higher standard of living they will achieve. It`s essential for our citizens to know, when you hear the economists say, we`re productive, or this worker is more productive, that means better pay, and when you cut their taxes, it means better after-tax pay. (Applause.)

And we`re seeing the spread of broadband throughout the country. Access has gone from 7 million subscriber lines in 2000, to 28 million last year. That`s rapid growth. Yet, on a per capita basis, America ranks 10th amongst the industrialized world. That`s not good enough. We don`t like to be ranked 10th in anything. The goal is to be ranked 1st when it comes to per capita use of broadband technology. It`s in our nation`s interest. It`s good for our economy. (Applause.)

The spread of broadband will not only help industry, it`ll help the quality of life of our citizens. We saw some really interesting projects. I want to thank those who came to show me some demonstration projects today. We saw a -- I met a -- where`s the doc? Doc, there you are. Good. He`s a heart doc -- cardiologist, I think, is a more sophisticated way of putting it. (Laughter.) Probably liked it when I talked about medical liability reform, too. (Laughter.) He worked at -- he works at Washington`s Children`s Hospital. And so he had a patient in -- Maryland? Yes. And he was able to -- they put a little scan on the little guy`s heart, and he was able to assure the mom that this person who had a -- had a heart operation when he was a young child is doing well.

This healer was able to spread his compassion and talents and assure a mom across broadband technology. It`s amazing when you think about it. Imagine what`s going to happen in Texas when Alpine or somewhere down there, they`re looking for a specialist, and a parent is panicked about whether or not their loved one is going to receive the care needed and they don`t have -- they can`t drive 600 miles to a local hospital. They call up this guy via broadband technology and he is able to analyze the child from afar -- it`s very sophisticated software -- and give the reassuring words to the parent, everything is okay. And whether it be cardiology or ear infection, any other aspect of medicine, we`ll be able to make sure health care is available throughout the country by using this technology. The quality of life for our citizens is going to improve dramatically as we spread this technology all across America.

I saw what broadband technology can mean for education. I mean, if you`ve ever been a governor of a state, you understand the vast potential of broadband technology, you understand how hard it is to make sure that physics, for example, is taught in every classroom in the state. It`s difficult to do. It`s, like, cost-prohibitive. But it`s not cost-prohibitive when you can wire your classrooms and have a physics professor from the University of Texas/San Antonio give a lecture in a real-time basis to kids out in rural Texas or anywhere else in America. It`s a fantastic way to take information and spread it on a real-time basis.

We saw a project there today in northern Pennsylvania, a school in northern Pennsylvania, and it`s exciting. Think of the vast potential this will mean for the public school systems of America. It means that some who go without certain subjects can now gain access to those subjects. It will mean we`ve got a more educated population when we get broadband technology spread throughout the entire country.

This effort, by the way -- the reason Ann is here, Ann Veneman is here is because the effort was launched by the Department of Agriculture. That may be a hard one to explain at home. (Laughter.) But the reason why is, is because her job is to give grant and loan programs for rural development. And it makes sense to -- (applause.) And she spanked out $2.5 billion of loans and grants for rural development. A lot of people in rural America like living there. (Laughter.) The quality of life is really good. You walk down your street and know who you`re looking at, and, generally, they`ll say, how are you doing? It`s good to see you. I hope you`re having a wonderful day. What can we do to help you?

And it makes sense to be able to take the potential of broadband to rural America. People are going to be able to find work there, and be able to live in their -- where they`re raised, or where they want to raise their kids in a rural setting. I also saw what broadband technology can do for our borders. I know this is a particular concern for Lamar. He`s -- your district doesn`t go all the way down to the border now, does it? Well, it has. He`s got about five different configurations of his district.

(Laughter.)

But we`ve got a big border in Texas, with Mexico, obviously -- and we`ve got a big border with Canada -- Arizona is affected. And this is a good chance to -- to have broadband technology deliver information to those who are responsible for guarding borders, guarding plants, and equipment. It`s amazing with the software that has been developed these days that enable a camera to distinguish the difference between a squirrel and a bomb. And, yet, I saw some software today that is very sophisticated, and at the same time will enable people to better do their duty in securing that which needs to be secured.

Remember, we`re still in a battle against ideological extremists who use terrorism as a tool to frighten, scare, kill people such as us who love freedom. And, therefore, what I`m telling you is as broadband expands, it`s going to enable us better to protect our homeland, which is a vital concern of any of us in our government.

We`re going to -- so somebody says, that`s great, it sounds good -- how are you going to achieve the goal? It`s one thing to set a goal, how do you achieve it? Here`s some things we can do that make sense, to make sure that broadband is available to everyone by 2007, and that there is a choice shortly thereafter. It`s one thing to make sure broadband is spread out in America, but we want consumers -- in this country, we believe in giving consumers alternatives. If you have an alternative, you`re likely to get a better price and a better quality. We like to respond to demand in a market-oriented economy, which is what we`re going to do.

First, we`ve got to make sure that broadband access is affordable and, therefore, it should not be taxed. It`s essential that we not tax --

(applause.) There has been a federal ban on Internet access taxes. I want to thank the members who work there on that issue. I think that`s why these two guys are here, by the way. (Laughter.) And states now, because the ban has expired, states have started taxing broadband access. And that`s going to make access less affordable. If the goal is to spread broadband, it doesn`t make any sense to tax it as we`re spreading it.

And so, therefore, I support -- strongly support reestablishing the ban on Internet access taxes. The Congress needs to act on this. I know these two members want to act. We look forward to working with you to make sure that the Internet access tax ban can be signed into law soon.

(Applause.) Taxes can stop the spread of broadband, and so can burdensome regulations. (Applause.) And sometimes government has a way of imposing burdensome regulations. And we look forward to working with industry, investors and entrepreneurs as to how to get rid of those burdensome regulations that defeat the goal of spreading broadband.

For example -- well, one way to look at it is our regulations for the telephone were established years ago. And I don`t think those regulations should apply to a 21st century technology. (Applause.) I thought the Federal Communications Commission did a smart thing, in a recent decision, by telling communications companies they don`t have to give away use of their fiberoptic broadband lines. I thought that was a smart thing.

(Applause.)

In this case, the FCC provided regulatory certainty, and by doing so created incentives for communication companies to build out their fiberoptic broadband lines to more homes. It`s a good decision. I think the decision will benefit American consumers, as well. (Applause.)

Another issue we face is that broadband providers have trouble getting across federal lands. And that`s why I signed an order to reduce the regulatory red tape for laying fiberoptic cables and putting up transmission towers on federal lands. You see, if you can`t put up towers and lay cable, you can`t get broadband to all corners of America by 2007. And so hopefully we`ve reduced that regulatory burden. If we haven`t reduced the regulatory burden enough, we need to hear from those who are

stymied. We want to meet the goal. There`s a practical reason why we

want to meet the goal: It`ll improve the lives of our fellow citizens.

Thirdly, we want to help consumers find more ways to obtain affordable broadband access. I just told you that. I told it to you again. (Laughter.)

Most people who have broadband access now obtain it through a cable wire or telephone wire. A small percentage obtain it through a satellite. But most of us who have got broadband go through the telephone or your cable.

We need to get broadband to more Americans and so, therefore, I want to talk about two other ways to get broadband to the consumer. We need to use our power lines better. They go everywhere. It seems to make sense, doesn`t it, if what you`re looking for is avenues into the home. Well, electricity goes into the home. And so one great opportunity is to spread broadband throughout America via our power lines.

And one of the problems we`ve got here is that the Commerce Department has had to develop technical standards that will make sure that our broadband can go across power lines without unnecessary interference. So it`s a technological problem. It`s a technological issue. It turns out that sometimes the competition of broadband and electricity just doesn`t go too good across one line. And so -- if I could put it in simple vernacular. And so, therefore, the Commerce Department is helping to sort through these issues so that broadband access will be available through -- by our power companies.

And as I understand it -- as a matter of fact, was shown a little thing you plug in your wall that will give you broadband access at 30 times

-- you told me? Sixty times? Sixty times the current speed of a dial-up. And that`s now available in Cincinnati and parts of Kentucky. There`s a power company in that part of the world that`s been innovative, that`s diversified the product to the home, and now can provide broadband across the electricity lines -- which is a fantastic innovation.

And so our job in government is to help facilitate the use of electricity lines by helping with the technological standards that will make this more possible. And I want to thank those in the Commerce Department who have worked hard to do this.

The other promising new broadband technology is wireless. The spectrum that allows for wireless technology is a limited resource. In other words, it`s not -- it`s not endless spectrum. And we need to use it wisely. And a wise use of that spectrum is to help our economy grow, and help with the quality of life of our people. And after all, that`s why we`re here. We`re here because of -- we want to enhance the quality of life of the American people. We want them to live better lives, we want them to be healthier, we want them to be smarter. We want them to be able to find work easier. And so one of things we need to do is unlock the spectrum`s value -- economic value and entrepreneurial potential without -- without, by the way, crowding out important government functions. And we can do both. That`s what`s important for our citizens to understand. And so we`re helping to promote new wireless technologies without crowding out the Defense Department`s capacity to defend America.

There are two kinds of wireless technology. One is called wi-fi. It works with a regular broadband connection. If you use that kind of connection, someone from their home or their office can set up a wireless network that covers the home or the office. For example, I was shown a wi-fi hookup today that enables somebody to load a system in their home that when their child comes home, if it`s set up properly, they will be able come in, it`ll trigger a noise, the person will look on their phone and see a picture of their kid coming in the home. It`s pretty imaginative, isn`t it? It`s a -- it`s just an illustration of what is possible -- of what is possible with this new broadband technology.

And so the problem with this kind of technology is that we can actually interfere with government uses, like radar. We want to make sure our radars work well. (Laughter.) And so we took the necessary steps to make sure these wireless broadband applications could work within the same spectrum as the government functions, without interference. It took some awfully smart people to figure that out. But you know something? Our government employs awfully smart people. And for those of you who have been working on this project, I want to thank you very much. It took some innovation. (Applause.)

And people are going to take advantage of this -- like, cities are. Spokane, Washington, yesterday established a wi-fi hot zone that allows users within a hundred block area of the city to obtain wireless broadband access. Imagine if you`re the head of a chamber of commerce of a city, and you say, gosh, our city is a great place to do business or to find work. We`re setting up a wi-fi hot zone, which means our citizens are more likely to be more productive than the citizens from a neighboring community. It`s a great opportunity.

Another kind of wireless broadband would be more wide-ranging. It would be based on mobile wireless. It wouldn`t depend on a physical connection to an existing cable or telephone modem as wi-fi does.

This -- to me, this is a very exciting opportunity for the country, when you think about it. The problem is, it requires a spectrum that is not now available. And so Congress needs to make the spectrum available. If we want to -- if we want to achieve the goal of broadband in every corner of the country by 2007, and shortly thereafter, people will have more options and more choice, we need to -- we need to make more spectrum available.

There`s a bill called the Commercial Spectrum Enhancement Act. It is a bill where we can take spectrum that is currently allocated to the government and auction it off to the private sector without diminishing our responsibilities in government. In other words, it will be an auction process. Taxpayers will not only benefit because broadband has been expanded, the taxpayers will benefit because we`re not going to give the spectrum away. We`ll let them pay.

And so these are some of the policies that will help us achieve the goal. What I`m telling you is, there`s a role for us here in Washington to help the entrepreneurs and innovators of the country succeed and, thereby, help make the quality of the life of our fellow citizens the best it can possibly be.

I am here at the Commerce Department because a lot of the work to make sure the entrepreneurial spirit is strong is done here. And I`m here to thank those of you who work here for your hard work. I appreciate what you`re doing. Keep doing it. We have a -- we have a responsibility to fulfill our missions and our goals on behalf of the taxpayers of this country.

There is no question in my mind with the right policy and right incentives that we will be the leader -- instead of being the tenth per capita in broadband use, we`ll be the first. You know, we`re the fastest growing major industrialized nation in the world today, and that`s great. We want to be the fastest growing major industrialized nation in the world tomorrow and the next decade and the next decade. And one of the best ways we can do so is to always stay on the leading edge of technological change, and here are some practical ways -- by working with the Congress, working with our regulators, working with our Commerce Department, that we can do so.

Listen, thanks for your work. May God bless you all, and may God continue to bless our country. (Applause.)

Trophäen - Bush spielt mit Saddams Pistole

Der amerikanische Präsident hat offenbar eine Schwäche für ausgefallene Souvenirs: In einem Arbeitszimmer neben dem Oval Office bewahrt er seit einiger Zeit die Pistole von Saddam Hussein auf. Der Diktator trug sie bei sich, als US-Soldaten ihn gefangen nahmen.

Nur wenige Amerikaner wissen, wo Saddam Hussein im Moment fest gehalten wird. Irgendwo auf dem Erdball wartet der Despot gerade auf seinen Prozess - dass er von US-Geheimdienstleuten verhört wird, kann man nur vermuten. Es gehe ihm gut, betonen Armeesprecher, seit die Folter-Bilder aus Abu Ghureib in Umlauf sind.

Saddams Aufenthaltsort ist geheime Staatssache. Hussein wird erst wieder auftauchen, wenn er wegen Verbrechen gegen die Menschlichkeit vor einem irakischen Gericht angeklagt werden wird. Wo sich aber die Pistole befindet, die der Diktator zum Zeitpunkt seiner Festnahme bei sich hatte, als ihn amerikanische Soldaten im Dezember 2003 aus einem Erdloch in der Nähe von Tikrit heraus holten, wissen wir jetzt: Sie liegt in einem kleinen Arbeitszimmer neben dem Oval Office im weißen Haus, berichtet das Time-Magazin in seiner jüngsten Ausgabe.

Die US-Soldaten hatten Husseins Waffe konfisziert um sie dann ihrem Präsidenten bei einem privaten Empfang zu überreichen. Seitdem gehört die Handfeuerwaffe offenbar zu den Attraktionen im politischen Washington DC. Der Präsident habe großen Spaß daran, "sie herum zu zeigen", zitiert Time einen Besucher des Weißen Hauses. "Er war sehr stolz darauf," heißt es weiter.


Das Arbeitszimmer, in dem George W. Bush das Präsent aufbewahrt, ist in den USA übrigens absolut bekannt. Nicht wegen seiner Aquarelle oder der Büsten von Winston Churchill oder Dwight D. Eisenhower. Sondern wegen Monica Lewinsky: Hier fanden die Schäferstündchen zwischen der damaligen Praktikantin der Welt und Bushs Vorgänger Clinton statt.

Nun also die Pistole. Sie ist übrigens nicht geladen; und war es auch nicht, als Hussein gefangenen genommen worden ist. Das jedenfalls erzählt Bush ausgewählten Gästen, denen er die Ehre erweist, seine Trophäe aus dem jüngsten Krieg zu zeigen.

In Ohio, Mrs. Bush Looks to Four More Years of President Bush`s Strong and Determined Leadership

Thanks, everybody. Thank you all. And thanks very much to my friend and your First Lady, Hope Taft. Hope actually never mentions it in our introductions, but we went to the same college and we were sorority sisters at the same time, so we have a long history of friendship. We were just interrupted in those few years between college and when our husbands were elect ed governor.

But I`m so happy to be here in Ohio today, to be with all of you and to talk to you about why it`s so important to reelect George W. Bush.

The President and I first traveled together in a campaign back in 1978 when George was running for Congress. Newly married, we spent a lot of time in our car, driving up and down the panhandle of West Texas. Believe me, you learn a lot about your husband when you spend that much time in a car with him. By the end of the campaign, he had even convinced me to vote for him.

And now, this is our last campaign. Being on the campaign trail isn`t what it used to be. These days, we travel in a very nice airplane. And George isn`t behind the wheel anymore. But we still love the very best part of the campaign and that`s the people, the wonderful people we meet all across our country. Thank you all very, very much for coming out early this morning to see me today.

I`m so happy to see Hope Taft today, and Lieutenant Governor Bradley -- she`s over here -- there she is, right there. Thank you so much, Governor, for being here with us.

Secretary of State Blackwell is here. Mayor Hruby, Mayor Sutherland and Mayor Clough are all here. We have congressional candidate Ed Herman, a decorated veteran and a determined leader. Please work for Ed and please support Congressman LaTourette to make sure he is reelected as well. And when you go to the polls, don`t forget Judge Lanzinger for the Ohio Supreme Court. Judge, thank you for your beautiful invocation.

And thanks also to the members of the Cleveland Institute of Music String Quartet for their very spirited performance.

Back stage, I met with a great group of women who are part of our W Stands for Women effort. Over the next few months, they`ll be talking to their friends and neighbors about the President`s achievements for women in America and across the world, and they`ve got a lot to talk about.

They join thousands of volunteers who are talking about the President`s positive agenda and getting their neighbors to the polls. And George and I want to thank each and every one of you, everyone who is here today, for your help in his campaign.

I know that you see what I see: The President is a leader for these historic times. The President is hopeful about our future, because he has tremendous confidence in the American people. He has a good and compassionate heart.

When he took office, he was determined to accomplish great goals on behalf of the American people. At the time, we couldn`t possibly have imagined how challenging these last three years would be. But I`ve known George Bush for nearly 30 years, and I`ve known for every second of our time at the White House that he has the character and the courage to meet the demands of this time.

On taxes, on health care and education, on promoting compassion at home and democracy abroad, the President has stood solidly on the side of the people who are working to make life better for themselves and for their neighbors. Thanks to the President`s tax relief plan, millions of families are keeping more of their own money and they`re deciding how to use it. In some families, tax relief means more money to pay the monthly bills. In other families, it means money to start a college fund for their children or a retirement fund for themselves. For small business owners, tax relief means expanding their operations and addi ng jobs. These millions of individual decisions are lifting our economy and improving the lives of people around the country.

And the economy -- the economy just keeps getting better. We`re experiencing the fastest economic growth in 20 years. The home ownership rate is at the highest level ever. Minority home ownership is particularly strong. And I am proud that we`ve set a new record in the first quarter of this year. Now more than half of all minority families own their own homes.

And since August, more than 1.4 million new jobs have been created. The record is clear. More Americans are proud to be back on the job thanks to our lifting economy.

And the President understands that reliable health care is fundamental to our economic security. No one can feel confident about the future if they fear that the next illness might wipe out their savings or drive them into debt.

That`s why the President is taking action to make health care more affordable and more accessible to millions of Americans. He worked with Congress to add a prescription drug benefit to Medicare to help seniors afford their medicines. He`s expanding health care options, health insurance options for Americans, promoting new ideas like health savings accounts.

And the President has proposed a plan to reform the medical liability system to reduce junk lawsuits. These junk lawsuits drive up the cost of medicine, and they drive good doctors out of their practice.

Education is also close to the President`s heart and to mine. From day one, the President has been a friend to parents and teachers who want to improve America`s schools. My husband is so committed to education because he looks at schools the way a parent looks at schools. He wants to make sure that children who are at risk of being left behind get the help they need to be successful students.

The No Child Left Behind Act, which was signed right here in Ohio, is bringing more money, higher standards and stronger accountability to schools throughout America. The President and I have spent a lot of time traveling to schools around our country, talking with teachers and parents who devote every day to our children. During these school visits, I`ve seen the President reading with children, encouraging t hem as they go through their lessons, talking to them about the importance of going to college.

And because learning is lifelong, the President announced a plan to expand job training partnerships between community colleges and local businesses and other private sector organizations. Whether you`re a new high school graduate who needs high-tech training, or a single mom trying to find a better paying job, or a factory worker who wants to learn new skills, the President`s job training proposals will help Americans succeed in the best jobs of the new economy.

My husband has always believed that government can be a force for tremendous good in society, and he appreciates the great work that`s done outside of government by compassionate citizens who recognize a need in their community and don`t wait for government, but just take action and do something about it themselves. And that`s what happens all over the United States.

George and I have seen first hand the good and generous hearts of the American people. Compassion and ingenuity are being put to work all over this country to lift up lives, from the mentoring of children of prisoners to bringing meals and a few minutes of friendly conversation to our elderly neighbors. America rises to meet every challenge, and we have a boundless capacity to improve the lives of the people around us.

As we help our neighbors at home, we also are sharing the blessings of liberty with our neighbors abroad. The terrible acts of September 11th showed us the face of evil in the world, but they also called us to the great work of promoting freedom and democracy in the far corners of the world. Today, 50 million more men, women and children live in freedom thanks to the United States of America.

From the very night of September 11th, when George and I were reunited at the White House, I`ve seen his character and his courage lead his efforts. The President organized a broad coalition of different countries to remove the Taliban from Afghanistan, al Qaeda`s biggest supporters were driven from power and the people of Afghanistan are liberated from their oppressors.

Today, women can walk freely on the streets in public without male supervision. And millions of girls are going to school, many for the first times in their lives in Afghanistan. And Afghanistan`s new constitution protects the rights of all people to vote and to speak freely.

Last week, the President and I hosted the G8 summit in Sea Island, Georgia. And one day, I hosted a roundtable for the spouses that were there, Cherie Blair from Britain and Ludmilla Putin from Russia and Madame Chirac from France, and Sheila Martin from Canada. And we were joined by some remarkable women, including a woman who serves on the Iraqi Governing Council, and a woman who serves on the Afghan Governing Council, and a young woman who is here studying in the United States, as a new group of Iraqi Fulbright scholars that are now studying here. And she told us about particula rly the brutality of Saddam Hussein in Iraq.

She had grown up on the Iraq-Iranian border. And when the war between Iraq and Iran started, Saddam Hussein used chemical weapons on her community, which was there on the border. And she was a little four-year-old girl and she drank water from the street -- she got separated from her family -- and went blind for four months because she took such a large dose of the chemical from drinking.

But now, she`s studying in the United States of America. And she wanted everyone to know that Iraq is a country of 25 million people. She thinks the picture we`re getting on television is not right -- a country of 25 million people and each have their own hope for the future.

In Iraq, the brave men and women of our military, along with our allies from many nations, toppled Saddam Hussein`s government and liberated the Iraqi people. They are now free from the tyranny of a brutal regime and they`re full of hope for a new government.

At the end of this month, new Iraqi leaders will begin making their own decisions about security, economic progress and other issues that are important to their citizens. President Bush met with the new Iraqi President at the G8 summit. The Iraqi President thanked the United States and especially the men and women of our military for their sacrifices. And last week, the United Nations Security Council unanimously passed a resolution pledging the U.N.`s help in making the new government a success and paving the way for free and fair elections in Iraq beginning in the new year.

Thanks to the tremendous work of our coalition, this is a time of great promise for the people of Iraq. Will there be many difficulties ahead? Of course. But freedom`s worth it.

I`m proud of my husband for recognizing the new realities of the world and for taking action to meet them. I`m proud of my husband for so many reasons, not least of which is the dignity and respect he shows for every single person he meets, the same dignity and respect he has for the office he holds.

He has worked hard on behalf of Americans from the day he took the Oath of Office, and now it`s our time to go to work for him. All of you can contribute so much to our campaign by simply getting the word out about the President`s record of his accomplishments and his vision for the future. Please talk to your neighbors and your friends, sign up with the campaign here in Ohio, make phone calls or go door to door bringing the President`s message to voters. Everything you do to reach voters and to get them to the polls will be a huge help for the President`s campaign.

These are hopeful times for Americans. We look to the future with great confidence in our ability to overcome challenges. And these are times that require particularly strong and determined leaders. I`m proud that my husband is that kind of leader.

Bush-Besuches als schmerzhaft. Für
Amerikaner ist Berlin Symbol für den
Kampf um Freiheit im Kalten Krieg. Der
Historiker Gordon Craig spricht von einer
„amerikanischen Entdeckung Berlins“.
Berlin war die schutzbedürftige Insel
der Freiheit. US-Präsidenten reisten in
die „Frontstadt Berlin“, um die westliche
Position im Kalten Krieg zu betonen. Kennedy,
Nixon, Carter, Reagan, Bush und
Clinton nutzten Berlin für demonstrative
Auftritte. In Berlin wurde die deutschamerikanische
Freundschaft gefeiert.
„Ich bin ein Berliner“ verstand man auch
in Amerika. Clintons Satz „Nichts kann
uns aufhalten, alles ist möglich, Berlin ist
frei“ wirkte weniger nachhaltig. Die
Deutschen verdanken den Amerikanern
den Vollzug der Wiedervereinigung:
Bush Senior gilt als amerikanischer „Vater“
der deutschen Einheit. Viele erinnern
sich, dass Bush Senior schon mit Kanzler
Kohl über die Wiedervereinigung verhandelte,
als der französische Präsident
Mitterrand noch einen offiziellen Staatsbesuch
in der DDR abwickelte.
Die Deutschen mögen die Amerikaner,
ihren Präsidenten mögen sie nicht – so
hieß es vor dem Bush-Besuch. Diese
These wurde in Berlin skandiert. Sie ist

Nachrüstungsdebatte und im Golfkrieg
ging es Nixon, Reagan und Bush Senior
ähnlich. Jeder Präsidentenbesuch polarisierte
Deutschland: Die militante Linke
rief „USA-SA-SS“ und beteuerte, Kritik
Antiamerikanismus ist ein Reizwort. Bevor
George W. Bush Berlin im Mai 2002
besuchte, wurde in Deutschland „antiamerikanisches“
Gedankengut diskutiert.
Kritiker der US-Außenpolitik wehrten
sich dagegen, als „Antiamerikanisten“
abgestempelt zu werden. Wer die
USA kritisiere, sei kein Antiamerikanist.
Kritik an den USA sei ein demokratisches
Grundrecht, die Bundesrepublik kein
„Vasall“, Politiker, Journalisten, Gewerkschaften,
Bürgerinitiativen und Globalisierungsgegner
ließen sich keinen Maulkorb
umhängen: Die Deutschen hätten
ein Recht auf Meinungs- und Demonstrationsfreiheit.
Kritik an Präsident Bush sei
Recht und Pflicht des politisch mündigen
Bürgers.
Bundesregierung und Sicherheitsbehörden
befürchteten Straßenschlachten.
Nach dem 11. September 2001 demonstrierten
zweihunderttausend vor dem
Brandenburger Tor: „Wir sind alle Amerikaner“,
hieß es einmütig. Beim Besuch
von George W. Bush im Mai 2002 zogen
zwanzigtausend bis dreißigtausend Demonstranten
durch Berlin: Bush wurde
Zielscheibe der Globalisierungsgegner.
Grüne und die PDS gingen auf die Straße,
Bundestagsabgeordnete demonstrierten
gegen den US-Präsidenten. Das war neu
in der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik:
Demonstrationen und Krawalle hatte es
bei US-Besuchen schon gegeben – gegen
Nixon und Reagan, Vizepräsident Bush
Senior wurde 1982 in Krefeld mit Steinen
beworfen. Bundestagsabgeordnete gehörten
jedoch nicht dazu.

Das Spektrum
der Vorurteile ist breit
US-Präsident Bush und
der Antiamerikanismus

an der US-Regierung sei nicht Kritik am
amerikanischen Volk. Amerikaner seien
hilfsbereite, gastfreundliche, liebenswürdige
Menschen. Nur ihre Regierung sei
„imperialistisch, materialistisch und
heuchlerisch“. Das erinnert an den
Spruch: „I like mankind, its people I cannot
stand.“ Selten wird erwähnt, dass die
US-Regierung demokratisch gewählt
wird und im Kreuzfeuer des Kongresses
steht. Die öffentliche Meinung kommt als
vierte Macht als Kontrollinstanz hinzu.
Wenn siebzig Prozent der Amerikaner
den Präsidenten im „Krieg gegen den Terrorismus“
unterstützen, wird die Regierungspolitik
von einer großen Mehrheit
getragen. George W. Bush ist in Amerika
seit dem 11. September beliebt. Die deutschen
Antipathien gegen Bush Junior
richten sich gegen die US-Regierung und
die Amerikaner, die ihn gewählt haben
und heute unterstützen.
Die Definition
Was ist Antiamerikanismus? Ein negatives
Stereotyp, ein Vorurteil. Stereotypen
können negativ und positiv sein, Vorurteile
sind negative Einstellungen. Wer
„antiamerikanisch“ denkt und fühlt, hat
sich geistig und emotional für ein negatives
Amerikabild entschieden – politisch,
psychologisch, kulturell. Die meisten
Images sind eine Mischung aus Positivem
und Negativem. Stereotype und Vorurteile
vereinfachen das Leben. „Meinung
ist Wahn und Vorurteil“, schrieb Adorno,
die meisten Menschen hätten lieber Vorurteile
als Einsichten. Das Image eines
Landes setzt sich aus Urteil und Vorurteil
zusammen, aus Wissen und Gefühl. Es
gibt viele Amerikabilder: Das Amerika
von George Washington hat ein anderes
Image als das Amerika von Ronald Reagan
oder Bill Clinton. Positive und negative
Bilder werden von jedem Individuum
bewusst und unbewusst übernommen
– von der Familie, von Freunden,
Lehrern, Medien, Pastoren oder Kollegen.
Einmal angenommene Bilder sind schwer
zu ändern. Wer ein „antiamerikanisches“
Image hat, wird dieses Bild weder rational
noch emotional ändern: Gilt George
W. Bush als „kleiner Sheriff“, so bleibt er
es lange. Seine wehrhafte Politik im
Kampf gegen den internationalen Terror
bestätigt das Vorurteil vom „schießwütigen
Cowboy“.
Mit dem Amtsantritt von George W.
Bush wiederholen sich die „Cowboy“-
Klischees, die Ronald Reagan vorausgingen
– der „Provinzler“, „Frühstücksdirektor
im Weißen Haus“, der intellektuell
Unbedarfte. In den Hauptstädten der
Welt machte man sich lustig. George W.
Bush hatte vor dem 11. September ein
schlechtes Image in Deutschland. Doch
seine gemäßigte Reaktion auf nine eleven
rettete seine Reputation: Die Amerikaner
wurden nicht als gewalttätiges Volk gesehen.
So dachten viele im November/Dezember
2001. Zum Bush-Besuch im Mai
kehrten antiamerikanische Vorurteile zurück:
Politische Sachargumente vermischten
sich mit negativen Vorurteilen –
der alte Antiamerikanismus von links
und rechts.
Inzwischen wird George W. Bush ernst
genommen. Er hat Koalitionen im Krieg
gegen den Terrorismus geschmiedet, die
Vereinten Nationen respektiert, sich aktiv
um Palästina gekümmert. Bush hat
außenpolitisches Profil gewonnen. Seine
Rede vor dem Bundestag am 23. Mai war
vielleicht nicht „historisch“, aber sie hat
der Welt die außenpolitische Agenda der
Vereinigten Staaten verständlich gemacht:
Die Einigung Europas soll die
europäische und amerikanische Sicherheit
stärken und Russland in die europäische
Familie aufnehmen, die USA und
Europa sollen gemeinsam gegen den globalen
Terror kämpfen, Israel müsse sicher
sein, die Palästinenser dürfen einen Staat
bilden, und die USA und Europa verstehen
sich nicht nur als Handelspartner –
sie sind die Erben der „gleichen Zivilisa-

tion“. Das Klischee des „Cowboys“ war
verflogen. Die Kommentatoren waren
sich einig: Bush hatte den Bundestag und
die deutsche und internationale Öffentlichkeit
beeindruckt.
Linker Antiamerikanismus
In Ostdeutschland haben es die Menschen
besonders schwer, sich Amerika
vorurteilslos zu nähern. Die Erinnerung
an die Propaganda der marxistisch-leninistischen
Zeit wirkt weiter. Der Antiamerikanismus
der Marxisten war polemisch:
die USA als Klassengesellschaft
der „Ausbeuter, Rassisten, Imperialisten
und Kriegstreiber“. Die Vereinigten Staaten
galten über Jahrzehnte als ideologischer
Rivale im Wettkampf der Systeme.
Doch Hand aufs Herz: War das Horrorbild
vom US-Imperialismus nicht realistisch?
Was war mit dem Iran, mit Vietnam
und Laos, Chile und El Salvador, Kuba
und Nicaragua, Angola, dem Kongo und
der leidigen United Fruit Company? Wer
vierzig Jahre von links und vorher von
rechts der antiamerikanischen Propaganda
ausgesetzt war, kann kein neues
Weltbild als Tabula rasa erfinden. Er bleibt
gefangen im Bewusstsein, das vom Sein
bestimmt wird. So sieht es Marx. Und dieses
„Sein“ ist antiamerikanisch – von links
und rechts.
Es ist eine Illusion zu glauben, die Folgen
der rechts- und linkslastigen Propaganda
könnten ausgelöscht werden: Seit
den dreißiger Jahren hat Deutschland keinen
Frieden mit Amerika. Die Rassenideologie
der „Herrenmenschen“ wurde
von der Klassenideologie der Sozialisten
abgelöst. Das hinterlässt Spuren. Wer will
daran erinnert werden, dass der Bremer
Senator Scherf 1986 dem amerikanischen
Präsidenten Ronald Reagan den frühen
Krebstod gewünscht hat, weil der USPräsident
in Zentralamerika angeblich
den „US-Imperialismus“ forcierte? In den
achtziger Jahren war „linker“ Antiamerikanismus
schick.

Der Antiamerikanismus der sechziger
und siebziger Jahre entstand aus der Enttäuschung
darüber, dass die führende
westliche Weltmacht die Ideale der Demokratie
nicht respektierte. Vietnam und
Watergate pervertierten die amerikanischen
politischen, demokratischen und
kulturellen Werte. Walter Jens appellierte
damals an das „bessere“ Amerika, das
Land der „Bürgerrechtler und Reformer,
der Friedfertigen und Gewaltlosen, nicht
das Land der Sozialdarwinisten, Spekulanten
und Hegemonisten“. Die Friedensbewegung
der achtziger Jahre unterstellte
der US-Regierung eine „imperialistische“
Ideologie. Fünfhunderttausend
Demonstranten marschierten in Bonn gegen
den NATO-Doppelbeschluss. Das
Thema Antiamerikanismus war auf dem
Tisch, ohne die offiziellen politischen Beziehungen
zwischen der Bundesrepublik
und den USA zu gefährden. Wer Reagans
Außenpolitik kritisierte, war selbstverständlich
kein Antiamerikanist: das gleiche
Dilemma.
Zur Golfkriegzeit war Deutschland
1990–91 zur Hälfte amerikakritisch. Der
Konflikt mit Saddam Hussein, so die
deutsche Presse, offenbarte den amerikanischen
„Materialismus“. Wegen der
Wirtschaftskrise habe die US-Regierung
einen Krieg gebraucht, um die Wirtschaft
anzukurbeln. Das alte Stereotyp vom
„imperialistischen“ Amerika kam aus der
Mottenkiste: Wegen der dominanten
Stellung der USA in der NATO dürfe das
Bündnis nicht für die Ordnung der Welt
sorgen. Die meisten deutschen Journalisten
sahen den Golfkrieg nicht als alliierten
Einsatz für Freiheit und Demokratie,
sondern die Amerikaner als „machtbesessene
Imperialisten“. Hegemonialstreben,
Vertretung von Eigeninteressen
Amerikas zum Erhalt seiner Weltmachtrolle,
eine „neue Form des Krieges gegen
die Dritte Welt“ seien die wahren Gründe
des Golfkrieges. Die „neue Weltordnung“
von George Bush Senior wurde in
Deutschland skeptisch beurteilt. Die idealistischen
Ziele des Golfkrieges seien
„scheinheilig“ gewesen: Die Amerikaner
redeten von Völkerrecht, hätten aber ihre
eigene Machtposition am Golf und in der
Welt gemeint.
Kritik von „links“ richtet sich heute gegen
die amerikanische Klimapolitik, gegen
die militärische, ökonomische und
kulturelle Hegemonie der Vereinigten
Staaten. Die „linke“ Kritik thematisiert
den „Konsumterror“, Sozialabbau durch
„Raubtierkapitalismus“, amerikanischen
Fortschrittsglauben, Patriotismus, Leistungsbewusstsein,
Militarismus, Religiosität,
militärische Hochrüstung und unilaterale
Expansion von „imperialem
Großmachtstreben“. Der „Krieg gegen
den Terrorismus“ wird als militaristisch
abgetan: „Mehr Bäume, weniger Büsche“
stand auf einem Transparent in Anspielung
auf den Präsidenten.
Die rechten Argumente
Der „rechte“ Antiamerikanismus der Traditionalisten
spricht von „Cocacolonisierung“
und „McDonaldisierung“ Deutschlands
und der Welt. Intellektuelle halten
EuroDisney bei Paris für ein „kulturelles
Tschernobyl“. Die „neue Rechte“ lehnt die
Werte der liberalen Zivilgesellschaft ab,
wie sie von Amerika repräsentiert werden.
Europa müsse von der „Kolonisierung“
durch Amerika befreit werden.
Mitte der achtziger Jahre sah Kurt Sontheimer
einen „kulturellen Antiamerikanismus“,
den er als soziale Randerscheinung
abtat. Der kulturelle Antiamerikanismus
versteht amerikanische Werte und
deren Umsetzung ins praktische Leben als
eine den europäischen Standards unterlegene
kulturelle Ausdrucksform. Kulturelle
Antiamerikaner befürchten, die amerikanische
Zivilisation und ihre Lebensformen
könnten andere Kulturen schwächen
und zerstören.
Neurechte Intellektuelle meinen,
„links“ und „rechts“ sei heute überholt:

Die „Volksgemeinschaft“ müsse gestärkt
werden, man müsse gegen einen individualisierten
Kosmopolitismus und Globalismus
angehen. Für den Rechtsradikalen
Horst Mahler ist das Internet geeignet,
Kritik am amerikanischen Liberalismus
und Globalismus zu verbreiten. Die radikale
Rechte veröffentlicht ihre Thesen auf
achthundert Webseiten. Der rechte Antiamerikanismus
schwimmt auf der Welle
einer amerikakritischen Stimmung: Amerika
als „bastardisiertes Einwanderungsland“
ohne „völkischen Zusammenhalt“
und religiöse Einheit. Die Ideologie des
Individualismus werde die gesellschaftlichen
Bindungen auflösen – Familie,
Klan und Nation. Deutsche Neurechte
meinen, die Amerikanisierung und Pluralisierung
der Nationen Europas lösten
das deutsche Volk langsam auf, der amerikanische
säkulare Humanismus fördere
moralischen Skeptizismus, Nihilismus
und Kosmopolitanismus. Der Amerikanist
Berndt Ostendorf weist darauf hin,
dass der rechte Antiamerikanismus im
Zeitalter der Globalisierung neu instrumentalisiert
werden kann: Die Auflösung
des Gegensatzes von links und rechts erlaube
dem neuen Antiamerikanismus,
sich transideologisch, transnational und
global zu verkaufen.
Heute mischen sich „linke“ und
„rechte“ negative Stereotypen. Für die
„neue Rechte“ ist Amerika moralisch korrupt,
technisch und strategisch jedoch
führend. Für viele Deutsche ist Amerika
das Land der Rassentrennung, der Waffenbesitzer,
Todesstrafen-Anwälte, der
Produzenten von Kulturschrott, religiösen
Fanatiker, Analphabeten, Drogensüchtigen,
Kriminellen und nationalen
Chauvinisten, die auf Kranken- und Arbeitslosenversicherung
sowie ein Mindestmaß
an sozialer Sicherheit verzichten.
Andere sehen in den USA das positive
Stereotyp des Landes der „unbegrenzten
Möglichkeiten“, der Freiheit,
Gleichheit wirtschaftlicher Startchancen,
der technologischen Überlegenheit, kulturellen
und ethnischen Vielschichtigkeit,
ideologischen Toleranz, ungebrochenen
staatlichen Identität und grenzenlosen
materiellen und geistigen Ressourcen.
Globalisierung und die USA
Deutsche Globalisierungsgegner kritisieren
die USA als Land des rücksichtslosen
Profitstrebens. Die Amerikakritiker von
Berlin nutzten den Staatsbesuch des USPräsidenten,
um die Argumente der Globalisierungsgegner
auf die Vereinigten
Staaten zu projizieren. Ziel ist der Neoliberalismus
amerikanischer Provenienz:
Der Staat sei global auf dem Rückzug, die
Freihandelsideologie von Ronald Reagan
werde durch George W. Bush erneuert.
Seit dem Zusammenbruch der sozialistischen
Wirtschaftssysteme hätten Markt
und Konkurrenzgedanke gesiegt: Die
Vereinigten Staaten seien Symbol für
Freihandel, globale Konkurrenz, Vernichtung
des Sozialstaates, Privatisierung
und „ungezügelten Kapitalismus“.
Der soziale Kahlschlag im Namen der
Globalisierung gehe von den USA aus.
Die Globalisierungsgegner konzentrieren
sich auf die Person von George W. Bush:
Der amerikanische Präsident wird zum
Sündenbock für die wirtschaftlichen, sozialen,
kulturellen, politischen und
psychologischen Wirkungen der Globalisierung.
Die Globalisierungsgegner sehen die
Vereinigten Staaten als Motor und Nutznießer
der Globalisierung. Amerikanische
und multinationale Konzerne sind
überzeugt, dass der Kapitalismus des
freien Marktes das wirksamste Instrument
für Wirtschaftswachstum und steigenden
Lebensstandard bleibt. Henry
Kissinger warnt: Wie der wirtschaftliche
Liberalismus des 19. Jahrhunderts den
Marxismus hervorbrachte, so könnte eine
aggressive Version der Globalisierung im
21. Jahrhundert einen weltweiten Angriff
auf die freie Marktwirtschaft bewirken.

US-Präsident Bush und der Antiamerikanismus
Die Globalisierung akzeptiert die Tatsache,
dass die freie Marktwirtschaft die
Tüchtigen von den Untüchtigen trennt –
auf Kosten wirtschaftlicher und sozialer
Erschütterungen. Die Demonstrationen
gegen die Globalisierung folgten dem
linksgerichteten, antiamerikanischen
und antikapitalistischen Drehbuch der
sechziger und frühen siebziger Jahre:
„Trotz allem dürfen die Führer der industrialisierten
Welt nicht das emotionale
Vakuum ignorieren, das den Protesten
mindestens teilweise zu Grunde liegt, damit
die Globalisierung nicht im politischen
Sturm untergeht“, schreibt Kissinger
in Die Herausforderung Amerikas: Weltpolitik
im 21. Jahrhundert.
Konflikte in den Beziehungen
Die deutsch-amerikanischen Beziehungen
werden durch Konflikte belastet.
Während des Kalten Krieges waren die
Beziehungen eindeutig: Westdeutschland
hatte sich eng an Amerika gebunden
– durch NATO, transatlantischen Handel,
Austausch, Truppenpräsenz und Eindämmung
sowjetischer Expansion. Ostdeutschland
unterlag der antiamerikanischen
Propaganda. Seit Ende des Kalten
Krieges lockern sich die transatlantischen
Bindungen. Die Amerikaner verringerten
ihre Truppen von zweihundertzwanzigtausend
auf etwa fünfundfünfzigtausend,
Deutschland verlor den Status als
Frontstaat, die Amerika-Häuser in Stuttgart,
München, Hamburg und Hannover
wurden geschlossen.
Strategisch verlagerten die Amerikaner
ihre Interessen nach Osten – in die
Türkei, die Ukraine und die einst sowjetischen
Republiken in Asien. Militärstrategisch
bleibt Deutschland ein „Flugzeugträger“
in Europa für Einsätze am Golf,
auf dem Balkan und im Nahen Osten. Die
Amerikaner fordern mehr Ausgaben für
Rüstung und Personal, Modernisierung
der Waffensysteme und Kauf neuer Militärtechnologien.
Zugleich wollen sie den
technologischen Vorsprung bei Waffensystemen
nicht preisgeben. Hinter der allseits
bekundeten Bündnistreue zur
NATO streiten Amerikaner und Europäer
so heftig wie selten: Die NATO
müsse sich konsequent im Krieg gegen
den Terrorismus hinter die Amerikaner
stellen, oder sie werde irrelevant.
Seit dem 11. September reden deutsche
Politiker von der „uneingeschränkten Solidarität“
im Kampf gegen den Terrorismus.
Das war angebracht, als der
Schock tief saß. Doch dann erklärte der
Präsident den Krieg gegen den Terrorismus
– Bomben auf Afghanistan; Somalia,
Iran, Irak im Visier, Truppenpräsenz
in Georgien, aggressive Töne über die
„Achse des Bösen“ und wachsende Bereitschaft,
einen Regimewechsel im Irak
zu erzwingen. Nicht jeder deutsche Politiker
ist für eine militärische Intervention
am Golf. Die Bush-Regierung kündigt das
Klimaschutzprotokoll, opponiert gegen
den internationalen Strafgerichtshof, entwickelt
ein Raketenabwehrsystem, vernachlässigt
internationale Verträge und
verpflichtet die Europäer, die NATO bis
an die Grenzen Russlands zu erweitern.
Diese Themen sind umstritten.
Zu militärischen und politischen Differenzen
kommt der Streit um den Wirtschaftsprotektionismus.
Die Bush-Regierung
hat Einfuhrzölle auf europäischen
Stahl erhoben. Die Europäer sehen darin
eine wirtschaftliche Kriegserklärung. Die
USA erscheinen nicht als „wohlwollende“
Weltmacht; sie zeigen ihre „Arroganz
der Macht“ nicht nur im politischen
und militärischen Bereich: Der Stahlkrieg
verschärft die Konkurrenz zwischen
Amerikanern, Europäern und Asiaten.
Da Amerikaner und Deutsche militärisch
Verbündete und wirtschaftlich
Konkurrenten sind, ist der Stahlkrieg
Symbol für die Krise der transatlantischen
Beziehungen. Gut sind diese Beziehungen
nur, wenn die Interessen
übereinstimmen.

Im kulturellen Bereich sind die Konflikte
vielleicht am kleinsten. Beide Völker
haben europäisch-abendländische Wurzeln.
Da die Hälfte der Deutschen angeblich
Englisch spricht, ist vielen das amerikanische
Englisch vertraut. Die Kulturgegensätze
sind eher peripher als zentral.
Etwa ein Viertel der Amerikaner hat deutsche
Vorfahren, Millionen von GIs waren
in Deutschland stationiert, Amerikaner
und Deutsche gelten als geschäftstüchtig,
diszipliniert und fleißig. Die beiden Weltkriege
waren für die Amerikaner vergleichsweise
kurz und verlustarm, der
Wiederaufbau der deutsch-amerikanischen
Freundschaft gelang zügig.
Amerikaner und Europäer
Nach der Wahl von George W. Bush zum
neuen US-Präsidenten tobte ein transatlantischer
Kulturkampf: Sensationsheischend
wurde in den Medien der „kulturelle
Gegensatz“ zwischen Europa und
Amerika vermarktet. Todesstrafe, Cowboy-
Kapitalismus und „Unilateralismus“
waren die Vorwürfe diesseits des Atlantiks.
Im Oktober 2001 warf ein deutscher
Leitartikler den Amerikanern „Patriotismus,
Wehrhaftigkeit und Religiosität“
vor. Europäer hätten kein Verständnis für
ein amerikanisches Volk, das angesichts
von nine eleven zur Kirche gehe, die Fahne
hisse und nach Schutz durch Armee, Marine
und Luftwaffe rufe. Wer nicht versteht,
dass Amerikaner in Krisenzeiten religiös,
wehrhaft und patriotisch sind, hat
sie nie gekannt.
Amerikaner sind keine Europäer,
keine Deutschen. Amerikaner haben ihre
eigene Geschichte, Ideologie, Identität –
seit Jahrhunderten. Sie sind stolz auf
eine ungebrochene Verfassungstradition,
auf ihre Grundwerte, Freiheiten
und religiösen, politischen, sozialen, ethnischen
und kulturellen Eigenarten.
Diese Unterschiede gilt es zu kennen
und zu verstehen. Die Vereinigten Staaten
haben ihre geistigen, philosophischen,
kulturellen und politischen Wurzeln
in Europa. Präsident George W.
Bush hat vor dem Bundestag die Gemeinsamkeit
von Amerikanern und Europäern
unterstrichen: „Die Vereinigten
Staaten und die Nationen Europas sind
mehr als militärische Verbündete; wir
sind mehr als Handelspartner; wir sind
die Erben der gleichen Zivilisation.“
Bush betonte die gemeinsamen Werte,
die „allgemein gültig und richtig“ seien
– freie Märkte, offene Gesellschaften,
Wert und Würde jeden Lebens. Die oft
beschworene „Wertegemeinschaft“ sei
besonders wichtig angesichts der Gefahr
durch antidemokratische, totalitäre, intolerante
und kriminelle internationale
Terroristen. Wer in Deutschland „antiamerikanisch“
ist, opponiert auch gegen
die europäischen geistigen und politischen

Preserving the Beauty and Quality of Our Environment

President Bush believes that good stewardship of the environment is not just a personal responsibility, it is a public value. Americans are united in the belief that it is important to preserve our natural heritage and safeguard the land around us.

The President has launched initiatives that express this same commitment. His Administration has acted in a comprehensive way to achieve impressive results. By almost every indicator, environmental quality in the United States is improving with cleaner air, water, and land, and improved public health.

The President believes that the federal government has an important role to play in protecting our environment and he has introduced new and innovative policies to achieve these goals. The President favors common-sense approaches to improving the environment while protecting the quality of American life. Over the past two-and-a-half years, the Administration has introduced initiatives that have already begun to deliver significant environmental results for all Americans.

Hydrogen Fuel – A Clean and Secure Energy Future

In his State of the Union address, President Bush announced a $1.2 billion hydrogen fuel initiative to reverse the nation’s growing dependence on foreign oil by developing the technology for hydrogen-powered fuel cells to power cars, trucks, homes and businesses with no pollution or greenhouse gases. The hydrogen fuel initiative will include $720 million in new funding over the next five years to develop the technologies and infrastructure to produce, store, and distribute hydrogen for use in fuel cell vehicles and electricity generation. Combined with the FreedomCAR (Cooperative Automotive Research) initiative, President Bush is proposing a total of $1.7 billion over the next five years to develop hydrogen-powered fuel cells, hydrogen infrastructure and advanced automotive technologies.

Under the President`s hydrogen fuel initiative, the first car driven by a child born today could be powered by fuel cells. The hydrogen fuel initiative supplements the President`s existing FreedomCAR initiative, which is developing technologies needed for mass production of safe and affordable hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicles. Through partnerships with the private sector, the hydrogen fuel initiative and FreedomCAR will make it practical and affordable for Americans to choose to use clean, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles by 2020. This will dramatically improve America`s energy security by significantly reducing the need for imported oil, as well as help clean our air and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Clear Skies – Clean Air for the 21st Century

Clear Skies, President Bush’s initiative to improve the nation’s air quality, is the most aggressive initiative in American history to cut power plant emissions, as well as a bold new strategy for addressing global climate change. Clear Skies would dramatically improve air quality by cutting power plant emissions of three critical pollutants – sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and mercury – by 70 percent, more than any other presidential clean air initiative. These reductions would be mandatory and would achieve 35 million more tons of reductions from Clear Skies in the next decade than what we could get under business as usual with the current Clean Air Act.

The President’s historic proposal would bring cleaner air to Americans faster, more reliably, and more cost-effectively than under current law. It would save Americans as much as $1 billion annually in compliance costs that are passed along to American consumers, while improving air quality and protecting the reliability and affordability of electricity for consumers. Clear Skies would cut pollution further, faster, cheaper – and with more certainty – eliminating the need for expensive and uncertain litigation as a means of achieving clean air.

Healthy Forests – Safeguarding People, Wildlife and Ecosystems

Last year catastrophic wildfires burned more than 6 million acres of land, killed more than 20 firefighters, destroyed more than 2,000 buildings, and caused severe environmental damage. These catastrophic wildfires destroy everything in their path – people, their property, wildlife habitats, watersheds and entire ecosystems. It can take decades for these forests to recover. For over a century, the federal government has done nothing to eliminate dense undergrowth and ladder fuels, and it has suppressed most of the natural fires that serve to clear out brush and undergrowth. As a result, about 190 million acres of our nation`s forests are in bonfire conditions.

The President`s Healthy Forests Initiative is returning the nation’s forests to their natural condition by reducing unnecessary regulatory obstacles that hinder active forest management. Healthy Forests will restore forests and rangelands to their natural, healthy, fire-resistant conditions and prevent these catastrophic wildfires to the benefit of communities, wildlife habitat and the landscape.

Brownfields Cleanup - Revitalizing Abandoned Sites in Our Cities and Towns

American cities have many such eyesores -- anywhere from 500,000 to a million brownfields are across our nation. These areas once supported manufacturing and commerce, and now lie empty -- adding nothing of value to the community, and sometimes only causing problems. Fulfilling an important campaign pledge, the President signed historic bipartisan brownfields reform legislation in January 2002. President Bush is committed to accelerating the cleanup and redevelopment of contaminated, underutilized industrial sites. The revitalization of brownfields serves to improve the environment, protect public health, create jobs, and revitalize communities. The President’s FY04 budget proposal provides $211 million – almost 130 percent more than when President Bush took office – for EPA’s brownfields cleanup program.

The President’s Farm Bill – Helping America’s Farmers Conserve Their Land

The Administration believes that there are no better stewards of the land than people who rely on the productivity of the land. The President continues to implement a farm bill that enhances conservation and environmental stewardship. The legislation will greatly enhance the ability of America’s farmers and ranchers to protect wetlands, water quality, and wildlife habitat.

To help them live up to the newer and higher environmental standards, the President’s farm bill expands the ECP program, which provides financial assistance to our farmers and ranchers to encourage sound conservation. The farm bill will provide over $40 billion over the next decade in funds for conservation programs that will restore millions of acres of wetlands, conserve water, and improve streams and rivers.

Diesel Regulations – Tackling Emissions for Cleaner Air

The Administration has aggressively tackled diesel emissions with modern regulations – a new mandate on oil producers to reduce the sulfur in diesel fuel, an innovative program requiring cleaner diesel engines on new trucks, an initiative to cut diesel pollution from aging school bus fleets, and new rules to reduce emissions from non-road vehicles.

The President’s non-road diesel regulation has been widely praised by environmental groups, with some hailing it as providing potentially the greatest health benefits since lead was removed from gasoline some 20 years ago.

Global Environment – Meeting the Challenge of Global Climate Change

President Bush has committed America to an aggressive strategy to meet the challenge of long-term global climate change by reducing the greenhouse gas intensity of our economy by 18 percent over the next 10 years. The Administration’s climate change policy is science-based; it encourages research breakthroughs that lead to technological innovation; and it takes advantage of the power of markets. It will encourage global participation and will pursue actions that will help ensure continued economic growth and prosperity for our citizens and for citizens throughout the world.

This goal is supported by a broad range of domestic and international climate change initiatives, including $4.4 billion in FY04 for climate change. This includes a significant investment of $1.75 billion in climate change science research to address critical gaps of understanding our global climate system and over $500 million in tax incentives to improve energy efficiency and promote renewable energy in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Our Oceans – Improving Ocean Conservation in the National Park System

The National Park Service has begun restoring marine ecosystems in close cooperation with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and state and local governments. New management tools, including networks of marine reserves and natural area research have been established to restore coral reefs, kelp forests and their diverse communities of marine life.

The President’s Budget – Funding Conservation for Today and Tomorrow

At $44.9 billion, the President’s FY04 environment and natural resources budget request is the highest ever. The Budget funds the nation’s priorities of protecting our drinking water, reducing pollution, cleaning up industrial waste sites, protecting our national parks and refuges, and helping farmers conserve on private lands as well.

The President’s budget proposal includes a $10 million increase for EPA from FY03 to strengthen EPA’s core operating programs for air, water, land and enforcement activities. The budget also includes $3.9 billion for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for farm conservation funding, over $500 million more than last year, and $4.4 billion for federal climate-related programs, a commitment unmatched by any other nation.

A Commitment to Protect our Environment

President Bush and his Administration are building on 30 years of successful environmental improvements. Our air is cleaner, our drinking water is purer, and our land is better protected.

There is a growing consensus in America in favor of common-sense approaches to improving the environment while protecting the quality of American life. The Bush Administration will continue to pursue the President’s comprehensive environmental agenda and provide the public and private resources needed to make new investments in environmental technologies and conservation.

Americans understand their obligation to the environment more so than in the years past. Americans understand that good stewardship is a personal responsibility, and a public value. The President believes that it is important for Americans to understand that each of us have a responsibility, and that it`s a part of our value system in our country to assume that responsibility.

President Bush’s comprehensive health care agenda improves health security for all Americans by building on the best features of American health care. Our health care system can provide the best care in the world, but rising costs and loss of control to government and health plan bureaucrats threaten to keep patients from getting state-of-the-art care.

The President believes that everyone should be able to choose a health care plan that meets their needs at a price they can afford. When people have good choices, health plans have to compete for their business – which means higher quality and better care.

Before the American Medical Association, President Bush announced his bold new proposal for modernizing and strengthening America’s health care system by giving Medicare recipients more health care choices. The President’s plan gives seniors more health care choices and helps them with the high costs of health care and prescription drugs.

To create a health care system that puts the needs of patients first, the President proposed steps to:

Help all Americans get affordable health care coverage and ensure access to doctors
Help patients get high-quality care every time
Modernize Medicare with prescription drug coverage that enables seniors to get the medicines they need, without the government dictating their drug choices.
Allow patients the choice of doctors, hospitals, or treatment centers.
Provide full coverage for disease prevention such as screenings for cancer, diabetes and osteoporosis.
Develop new treatments to keep patients healthy and prevent complications from diseases and strengthen the health care safety net
The President’s health care agenda is designed to improve the accessibility, affordability and accountability of health care for every American – and to make sure that American health care keeps getting better. The President’s budget backs up his agenda with investments in prevention initiatives, expanded coverage programs, improved care for seniors and important medical research.

Offering Health Care Choice by Modernizing Medicare

The President has proposed a framework to modernize and improve Medicare that builds on principles he outlined in July 2001. He looks forward to working with Congress on legislation to bring more choices and better benefits to Medicare this year. The President has committed up to $400 billion over the next ten years in his FY 2004 budget to pay for modernizing and improving Medicare. The President’s framework will give all Medicare beneficiaries access to:

Prescription drug coverage that enables seniors to get the medicines they need, without the government dictating their drug choices.
Choice of an individual health care plan that best fits their needs just like Members of Congress and other federal employees enjoy today.
Choice of the doctor, hospital, or place they want for the treatment and care they need.
Full coverage for disease prevention such as screenings for cancer, diabetes and osteoporosis.
The President’s plan will make sure that low-income seniors receive additional financial assistance so they will not have to pay more to receive better benefits than they currently do under Medicare. For too long, political pressures have kept our nation from bringing the benefits of modern health care to Medicare. The President is calling upon members of both political parties to work together with him to pass legislation this year.

Every American Should Have Access to a Good Doctor

President Bush has proposed a framework for addressing the medical liability crisis that is forcing communities to lose doctors.

National adoption of proven standards to make the medical liability system more fair, predictable, and timely. Experience in many states has demonstrated that these standards can reduce federal government costs by at least $28 billion per year or more, freeing up needed funds for making health care more affordable. These standards can reduce health care costs for all Americans by $60 billion or more, and improve access to quality health care as well. The President proposes that Congress take action to:
Secure the ability of injured patients to get quick, unlimited compensation for their "economic losses," including the loss of ability to provide unpaid services like care for children or parents.
Ensure that recoveries for non-economic damages do not exceed a reasonable amount ($250,000).
Reserve punitive damages for cases where they are justified, and limit punitive damages to reasonable amounts.
Provide for payments of judgments over time rather than in a single lump sum, to ensure that appropriate payments are there when patients need them.
Ensure that old cases cannot be brought years after an event.
Reduce the amount that doctors must pay if a plaintiff has received other payments from an insurer to compensate for their losses.
Provide that defendants pay judgments in proportion to their fault.
Improvements in health care quality and patient safety through litigation reform. Patients deserve high-quality health care without avoidable medical errors and complications, and the Administration is supporting many efforts to achieve this goal, through better information and other steps to improve quality. One proven approach to reducing errors and complications is patient safety and quality improvement programs implemented by doctors and health care organizations working together. By sharing information on quality problems and medical errors, health professionals can determine ways to avoid errors and complications in the first place. But these efforts are blocked by fear of litigation. Good-faith efforts to improve quality and safety are targets for lawsuits based on the new information. The President has called for legislation to make it possible for health professionals to work together more effectively to provide the best possible care for all patients.
Providing Affordable Health Care Choices That Meets America’s Needs:

The President believes that everyone should be able to choose a health care plan that meets their needs at a price they can afford.
Americans enjoy access to good choices in employer-sponsored health care plans, but many others do not have good coverage options or are in danger of losing them.
The President’s plan proposes to address this problem through over $117 billion in initiatives to make good health care coverage more available and affordable:
The President’s plan lifts the excessive restrictions on Medical Savings Accounts which will allow many more Americans to set up tax-free accounts to protect themselves from high out-of-pocket costs.
The President supports legislation that would make it easier for small employers to pool together to offer their employees better health coverage options, like many large corporations are able to offer.
The President’s budget proposes $89 billion in new health credits to make private health insurance more affordable for low- and middle-income American families who do not have employer-subsidized insurance.
The Administration will work with states to strengthen Medicaid and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (S-CHIP).
The President’s budget provides $350 million to continue funding Medicaid for families in transition from welfare to work.
The President`s budget strengthens S-CHIP by making available to states an estimated $3.2 billion in unused S-CHIP funds that otherwise will be lost. These additional matching funds will enable all states to expand coverage to the uninsured.
The President believes that Americans who need long-term care assistance should have more control over how they receive the care they need. The President’s budget proposes to make premium payments for long-term care insurance fully deductible, to provide a much-needed, more flexible alternative to “spending down” to Medicaid. The 10-year cost of this proposal is $20 billion.
The Bush Administration proposes an additional tax exemption for persons who take time to care for parents or children who need long-term assistance.
Improving the Quality of Health Care

The President strongly supports the passage of a Patients’ Bill of Rights that leaves medical decisions in the hands of physicians, instead of insurance companies – and urges Congress to reconcile differences and complete its work this year.
President Bush will work with Congress to develop fair and reasonable legislation that will make genetic discrimination illegal and provide protections consistent with other existing anti-discrimination laws.
The Administration continues to take steps to make better information on medical treatments and the quality of health care providers available to the public, including new information on nursing home quality.
Electronic medical records hold the promise of improving quality of care for patients and for giving them more control over their health information, but only with strong medical privacy protections that give patients the security and confidence they need. The Administration is implementing new medical privacy protections to do just that.
Increasing Biomedical Research and Strengthening the Health Care Safety Net

The President’s plan increases funding for the National Institutes of Health`s (NIH) efforts to support research to improve the prevention, detection and treatment of diseases.
The President’s budget includes $5.9 billion for bioterrorism preparedness, an increase of $4.5 billion – more than three times the 2002 base funding level.
The President’s budget includes $1.5 billion for Community Health Centers, a $114 million increase that would continue the Bush Administration`s long-term strategy to add 1,200 new and expanded health center sites over five years and serve an additional 6.1 million patients. The increase for fiscal year 2003 will support 170 new and expanded health centers, and provide services to a million more patients.

Die Botschaft in diesem Plakat ist vergleichbar mit einem Werbebanner in dem der Papst für Beate Uhse`s Sexartikel Werbung machen würde.

Da hier nur Positives über Bush geschrieben werden soll, will ich mal W`s Rekorde erwähnen.

W. hat es in den knapp vier Jahren seiner Präsidentschaft geschafft das höchste Haushaltdefizit der US-Geschichte aufzutürmen.

Ausserdem ist W. der erste Präsident seit Herbert Hoover vor gut 70 Jahren während der grossen Depression, in dessen Präsidentschaft die amerikanische Wirtschaft Arbeitsplätze verloren hat (momentan knapp 2 Millionen).

Am Rande sei noch erwähnt, dass W`s Vorgänger Clinton in seiner Amtszeit lediglich 21 Millionen neue Arbeitsplätze geschaffen hat und Clinton die hohen Haushaltsdefizite von Papa Bush und Ronnie Reagan in magere Haushaltsüberschüsse verwandelt hat.

Deutschland unter Schroeder hat in der gleichen Zeit keine neuen Arbeitsplätze geschaffen, die Wirtschaft stagniert.

Von 1979 bis 1997 sind in den USA 40 Millionen neue Arbeitsplätze geschaffen worden.

Im gleichen Zeitraum sind in ganz Europa nur 4 Millionen Arbeitsplätze geschaffen worden.

Für Deutschland seht der Zukunft nicht rosig aus: Bevölkerungschwund und -veralterung, Verlagerung der deutschen Industrie nach Osten, Investitionsloch neue Bundesländer, Überfremdung, Islamisierung und und und.

In 30 Jahren ist Deutschland das Armenhaus Europas.

Aber der Neid und der Hass der Deutschen auf Amerika wird bleiben, ausser bei denen, die nach Amerika auswandern.

Sicherlich hat die US-Wirtschaft in den letzten Monaten bei den Arbeitsplätzen um gut eine Million zugelegt. Nachdem sie aber vorher unter Bush ca. 3 Millionen Arbeitsplätze verloren hatte, ergibt sich ein Gesamtdefizit für W. von knapp zwei Millionen Arbeitsplätzen.

Fakt ist, W. ist der erste Präsident seit Herbert Hoover vor gut 70 Jahren unter dessen Präsidentschaft die amerikanische Wirtschaft Arbeitsplätze verloren hat und die aktuellen Arbeitsmarktdaten bleiben auch wieder hinter den Erwartungen zurück.
Und von deinen 5% Wirtschaftswachstum sind nach den revidierten Daten auch nur noch 3,9% übriggeblieben.

Aber nicht nur die Wirtschaft hat Arbeitsplätze unter W. verloren, sondern auch der Jahres-Durchschnittsverdienst des Amerikaners ist um 1600 Dollar in Bush`s Amstzeit gefallen.
Dafür sollen aber laut Forbes die amerikanischen Milliardäre ihre Vermögen dank Bush`s Steuerkürzungen und wegen eines guten Börsenverlaufes im letzten Jahr um bis zu 40% Plus gesteigert haben.

Zum Vergleich: Unter Clinton ist das Durchschnittseinkommen des Amerikaners nur um schlappe 7100 Dollar gewachsen.

Numbers of British police officers during the visit have risen to 14,000
Tony Blair has insisted he made the right decision by inviting US President George Bush to the UK as a huge security operation gets under way.
Some 14,000 police officers will be on duty throughout Mr Bush`s four-day visit, at an estimated cost to the British taxpayer of £5m.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators, led by the Stop the War Coalition, are expected to take to the capital`s streets in protest at the visit which begins on Tuesday.

The prime minister said Britain was right to stand shoulder to shoulder with the US, particularly after recent terror attacks in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, on the UN and Red Cross.

"This is the right moment for us to stand firm with the United States in defeating terrorism wherever it is and delivering us safely from what I genuinely believe to be the security threat of the 21st Century," Mr Blair told a CBI conference in Birmingham on Monday.

"Now is not the time to waver, now is the time to see it through."

The heightened state of security has seen extra police at ports and airports and checking people arriving on Eurostar trains from France.

However a female demonstrator managed to climb the front gates of Buckingham Palace on Monday to register her protest, before descending voluntarily and being detained by police.

Scotland Yard is in overall charge of security for Mr Bush`s visit - which begins on Tuesday - and on Monday said it had increased from 5,000 to 14,000 the number of officers it will have on the streets during the visit.

Mr Bush will also be protected by hundreds of armed guards from the US.

They will not be granted diplomatic immunity, and will be subject to the British legal system if they shoot anybody, the Home Office has promised.

Mr Bush has shrugged off the prospect of protests, saying he supports free speech and expects the trip to be "fantastic".

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Andy Trotter said the Metropolitan Police`s decision to use almost half its numbers of officers during the president`s visit had been taken primarily because of security concerns.

"We are on a very high level of alert at the moment. We obviously have the visit of the president coinciding with that and we`ve got to make sure that London is kept safe and the visit goes well," he told BBC`s World at One programme.

How to protect the president

Police had a meeting with the Stop the War Coalition, along with CND, the Muslim Association of Britain and Labour MP Jeremy Corbyn, on Monday afternoon for a final consultation on which roads can be included in the march.

Mr Corbyn emerged later saying the route was the one which they had originally asked for, having reassured police that it would be a peaceful protest.

The radical Islamist organisation, al-Muhajiroun, told the BBC it has advised Muslims to stay away because of a "real and serious risk" of a terrorist operation.

But Inayat Bunglawala, spokesman for the Muslim Council of Britain, accused Al Muhajiroun of "scaremongering".

"Al Muhajiroun never let up an opportunity to cause offence or incite further hatred between people in this country," said Mr Bunglawala.

Charles Kennedy, leader of the UK`s third largest party the Lib Dems, urged protesters to "use the opportunity to leave the president in no doubt as to the extent of public concern... about the way in which events tragically have unfolded".

He said he would be "expressing the anxieties" about the war felt by himself, his party and others in a meeting with the president.

He said he hoped there would not be a "draconian response" by the police to the demonstrations, as was seen during the visit to London by Chinese President Jiang Zemin three years ago.

Lessons learned

As Mr Bush and his wife arrive in London on Tuesday, a Stop Bush rally will be held near Euston Station.

And on Wednesday, when the president is due at Buckingham Palace, there will be an "alternative state procession" including a Big Red Peace Bus.

London Mayor Ken Livingstone is holding a peace party in City Hall on Wednesday, attended by many groups opposed to the war in Iraq.

Mr Bush said in an interview with the BBC`s Breakfast with Frost programme that he was unfazed by the planned protests.

"I understand you don`t like war, and neither do I.

"But I would hope you understand that I have learned the lessons of 11 September 2001, and that terrorists declared war on the United States of America and war on people that love freedom."

Mr Bush`s wife Laura defended his "wrenching" decision to go to war, stressing that it had been to ensure the security of the US and for the sake of world peace.

Bush`s offizielle Amtsübernahme Machtübernahme war am 20. Januar 2001. Sein Vize-Präsident ist Dick Cheney, ebenso wie Bush ein wischechter Republikaner.

Chicken Hawks (Hühner-Falken) ist eine relativ neue Bezeichnung für prominente Amerikaner (zumeist mehr oder minder männliche solche), die sich selbst bisher erfolgreich um ihre Vaterlandspflichten gedrückt haben, und die in Krisenzeiten dennoch oder gerade deshalb voller Kampfeslust und am lautesten von allen nach Krieg schreien - militante "Weicheier" quasi (s. So war der Kampfpilot Bush jr. eher ein Krampfpilot, jedenfalls wenn es um Vietnam ging, womit der amerikanische Führer denn auch in dieser uralten Disziplin führend wäre, hart gefolgt von seinem kleinen Zusatzführer, Dick Cheney und vielen anderen Falken Hühner-Falken. Doch zurück zu unserer Bush-Bio: Nach einer weniger als mittelmäßigen Karriere im Öl- und Gas-Geschäft, sowie als Mitbesitzer des Texas Rangers Baseball Teams, wandte Bush sich schließlich der Politik zu.

Vom 17. Januar 1995 bis 21. Dezember 2000 war George Bush jr. Gouverneur von Texas. Bereits im Amt des Gouverneurs glänzte er als absoluter Spitzenreiter im Verhängen der Todesstrafe - 154 Hinrichtungen gingen damals auf Bush`s Kappe, wofür er von seinen Landsleuten schließlich als der "Texecutioner" bezeichnet wurde (s. Im Jahr 1977 heiratete Bush die ehemalige Lehrerin und Bibliothekarin Laura Welch (geb. 1946) aus Midland, Texas. Bonn, 18.7.2001 Visit America – Home of the Climate Killers! , ist der Slogan des neuen Posters von Klaus Staeck, das die Greenpeace Gruppe Bonn als Protest gegen die Klimapolitik der Bushadministration anläßlich der Weltklimakonferenz an den Bonner Litfaßsäulen plakatieren läßt. Der Heidelberger Plakatkünstler zeigt George Bush vor einer verwüsteten Landschaft in der Pose des "Uncle Sam" auf dem amerikanischen Propagandaplakat "I want You". Klaus Staeck will zusammen mit der Greenpeace Gruppe Bonn auf die verantwortungslose Politik der US - Regierung unter George Bush aufmerksam machen.

"Kritik, pointiert und visuell geäußert, erreicht mehr Menschen als der bloße Appell", weiß Klaus Staeck aus Erfahrung. Mit der Blockierung des Kyotoprotokolls wollen sich die Hauptverantwortlichen aus der Verantwortung stehlen", sagt Fabian Sösemann von Greenpeace Bonn.

Die USA, die weltweit für ein Viertel des CO2 - Ausstoßes verantwortlich sind, drohen nun damit, das Klimaprotokoll von Kyoto nicht zu ratifizieren.Das Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) rechnet mit einer Erwärmung von 1,5 – 6 Grad Celcius in diesem Jahrhundert.


Das ist die Temperaturdifferenz zwischen der letzten Eiszeit vor 20.000 Jahren und heute. Trotzdem hat Bush, dessen Wahlkampf zum größten Teil die amerikanische Ölindustrie finanziert hat, dem Klimaschutz-Protokoll von Kyoto nach seiner Wahl eine klare Absage erteilt.

GPM: Herr Staeck, als sie 1990 ein Plakat für Greenpeace machten, zeigten sie die Konzernchefs von Hoechst und KaliChemie als Klimakiller. Heute ist George W. Bush zu sehen. Warum?

KLAUS STAECK: Die Amerikaner haben nicht nur einen Dummkopf als Präsidenten gewählt, sondern auch einen, der in seiner Dummheit zu einem der zentralen Weltzerstörer zu werden droht. Er bedient nun seine Wahlkampf-Geldgeber. Das war offenbar die Industrie - vor allem die Ölkonzerne -, die nicht an Umweltauflagen interessiert ist. Das ist eine Katastrophe, die in ihrer Tragweite noch gar nicht abzusehen ist. Und die Reaktionen der anderen Staaten, auch Deutschlands, sind für mich einfach viel zu zahm. Umweltgangster, die es in großer Zahl gibt, müssen viel härter angegriffen werden.

In 30 Jahren haben sie mehr als 50 Plakate gemacht, die Umweltsünden anprangern. Dauerbrenner sind Themen wie Verkehr,Müll oder Ölverschmutzung der Meere. Ist das noch aktuell?

Viele Plakate, die ich als Hinweis, Aufforderung und Erwartung gedacht habe, sind heute aktueller als zu der Zeit, als ich sie gemacht habe. Das deprimiert mich. Vieles, von dem ich glaubte, es habe sich in ein paar Jahren erledigt, ist heute drängender und noch dramatischer geworden. Das Öl-Plakat, das entstand, als der Tanker Amoco Cadiz vor der Bretagne verunglückte, könnte ich jedes Mal aus dem Schubfach wieder herausziehen, wenn die Erika oder die Jessica - oder wie sie alle heißen - wieder havarieren. Es ändert sich im Prinzip fast nichts, weil diejenigen, die aus Profitinteresse die Welt zerstören, immer noch wesentlich stärker sind als die, die sich für die Erhaltung der Welt einsetzen.

Statt der Unionsparteien, die Sie jahrelang bekämpften, regieren nun SPD und Grüne. Und dennoch rollen die Castoren. Sie sind SPD-Mitglied. Sind Ihre Parteifreunde jetzt Zielscheibe für Ihre Plakate?

Vor allem die Grünen sind für mich eine Riesenenttäuschung. Sie sind handzahmer als viele linke Sozialdemokraten, die es auch noch gibt. Ich habe diese Entwicklung vorhergesehen, als Joseph Beuys mich 1977 als Mitbegründer der Grünen gewinnen wollte. Schon damals war es erkennbar, dass die Grünen wissen, wie man Protest so auf die eigenen Mühlen umleitet, dass sie einen ins Parlament tragen.

Sie meinen, die Umweltproblematik war für die Grünen nur ein Steigbügel?

Wäre es ein tiefes, inneres Bedürfnis für die Grünen, würde die Partei öfter die Gretchenfrage stellen und sagen, mit uns macht ihr sowas nicht. Ob es ums Autofahren geht oder den Castor.

Halten Sie den Atomkonsens denn für falsch?

Nein. Der Atomkonsens begünstigt zwar die Atomindustrie, aber der Ausstiegsbeschluss ist ein Schritt in die richtige Richtung. Damit liegen wir in Europa weit vorne. Und Frau Merkel droht nun schon wieder, den Atomkonsens zurückzunehmen, sollte die CDU an die Regierung kommen. Die Parteien sollten in den Wettstreit treten um die besten ökologischen Konzepte, statt sich gegenseitig zu bremsen. Und da erweist sich die Demokratie als schwach. Die Parteien neigen dazu, den Leuten zu sagen, alles bleibe so, wie es ist. Du kannst die Zerstörung weiter betreiben, und es wird trotzdem alles gut. Die Öko-Steuer ist dafür im Moment das spannendste Beispiel. Viele Politiker meinen, man könne der Bevölkerung nicht zumuten, dass Energie teurer wird.

Müssen Sie nicht auch Ihre eigene Partei drängen, an der Öko-Steuer festzuhalten?

Ich habe mit Freunden vor dem Brandenburger Tor in Berlin für die Öko-Steuer geworben. Wir hatten gute Resonanz, aber kaum welche bei der Partei. Da ist mir klar geworden, dass man auch die eigene Partei vehement anschieben muss. Glauben Sie nicht, dass ich bei der Führung meiner Partei beliebt bin.

Sie halten die Zahl Ihrer Freunde offenbar überschaubar. Viele halten Sie für einen Miesepeter, einen notorischen Einmischer und Spaßverderber.

`Das empfinde ich eher als Kompliment. Denn schließlich möchte ich manchen Leuten tatsächlich den Spaß verderben. Spaß ist heutzutage solch ein Tofschlagwort geworden. Also, wenn Sie irgendjemand fragen, warum machen Sie das, und er hat keine plausible Antwort, dann sagt er, das macht Spaß. Spaß ist aber nicht der Sinn des Lebens. Ich habe „Spaß" daran, mächtige Leute bei ihren Späßen zu stören, die letztlich auf Zerstörung beruhen. Zumal wenn sie Vorbilder für die Jugend sind. Der PS Propagandist Michael Schumacher etwa ist mit seiner Rennfahrerei einer der effektivsten Umweltzerstörer. Und wird dabei auch noch Multimillionär. Menschen wie ihn in ihrem Treiben zu stören, empfinde ich fast als christliche Pflicht.

Nach der Lektüre Ihrer Biographie hat man den Eindruck, dass Sie sich aus der Arena auf die Zuschauerbank zurückziehen.

Nein. Dort finde ich es furchtbar langweilig. Im Zirkus fühle ich mich zwar wohler als Zuschauer, weil man auf den Logenplätzen immer aufgefordert wird mitzumachen. In der Arena aber ist es risikoreicher, und ich verfüge über viel Energie, über eine gute Batterie, die nicht so schnell leer ist. Zum Glück. Satire ist sehr kräftezehrend. Ich habe mich ja häufig mit Konzernen und Parteien angelegt, es bislang auf insgesamt 41 Prozesse gebracht und keinen einzigen verloren. Es gehört nun mal zum Wesen der Satire, sich mit starken Gegnern anzulegen. Und dann auch politisch wirksam zu sein und einen Nachhall zu haben.

Sind Ihre Plakate in der Zeit von Computer und Internet noch zeitgemäß?

Das Plakat ist oft totgesagt worden, aber es erreicht immer noch öffentliche Aufmerksamkeit. Denn das Plakat ist in all dieser Flüchtigkeit und Hektik, die uns umtreibt, ein starres Medium. Und deshalb hat es den flüchtigen, elektronischen Medien etwas voraus. Sie können es länger ansehen, und das braucht Satire letztlich auch. Die Bilderaus dem Fernsehen sind dann schon wieder verschwunden. Man zappt sich durch die Sender und scannt oberflächlich die Seiten im Internet. Dabei erfährt man nichts mehr richtig, alles nur noch halb.

Manche halten Ihre Kunst deshalb für Schnee von gestern.

Immer wenn einer so etwas behauptet, antworte ich: Wer weiß, ob der Schnee von gestern nicht die Lawine von morgen ist.

President Bush Commemorates 40th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you all for coming, and welcome to the White House. I am so pleased you could join us to celebrate a great anniversary of justice and equality in America.

I appreciate members of my Cabinet being here, and a lot of members of my administration. I want to thank many of our distinguished guests who have joined us today. I`m so pleased to see Dr. Dorothy Height -- thank you so much for coming. (Applause.)

We`ve got two Lieutenant Governors, Michael Steele and Jennette Bradley, with us. Thank you both for being here today. (Applause.) Marc Morial -- where are you, Marc? He must be somewhere. There he is. Thanks for coming. (Applause.) I didn`t recognize you outside the "Big Easy." (Laughter.)

Lou Sullivan is with us. I`m honored you`re here, Lou. Thanks for coming, sir. (Applause.) My friend, Bob Woodson, President of the National Center for Neighborhood Enterprise, is here. I`m going to save one announcement for a little later, special announcement. But I do want to recognize Jack Valenti, who was the Special Assistant to President Lyndon Johnson. Jack, we`re honored you`re here. Thank you for coming. (Applause.)

Forty years ago, in many parts of America, basic rights were observed or denied based entirely on race. Offensive laws regulated every detail of society: where you can get your hair cut, which hospital ward you can be treated in, which park or library you could visit. A person looking for a job or even a place to stay the night could be turned away merely because the color of the skin. And that person had very little recourse under federal law. Forty years ago this week, that system of indignity and injustice was ended by the Civil Rights Act signed into law in this very room. (Applause.)

As of July the 2nd, 1964, no longer could weary travelers be denied a room in a hotel or a table at a restaurant. No longer could any American be forced to drink from a separate water fountain or sit at the back of a bus just because of their race. All discrimination did not end that day, but from that day forward, America has been a better and fairer country.

Today we have here on display, outside this room, the first and last pages of the Civil Rights Act, and one of the pens that Lyndon B. Johnson used for the signature. That law was a long time in coming, and before it arrived, the conscience of America had to be awakened. That conscience was stirred by men and women who held sit-ins at lunch counters, who rode the buses on Freedom Rides, who endured and overcame the slurs and the fire hoses and the burning crosses. The conscience of America was outraged by the ambush of Medgar Evers, by kidnappings and terror bombings, and by the murder of four young girls in a church on a Sunday. Our nation`s conscience was moved by hundreds of thousands who marched right here in the nation`s capital to demand the full promise of the Declaration and America`s founding law.

President John F. Kennedy heard the voices of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and others, and took up the challenge. Five months before his death, the President said our nation was confronted with a moral issue as old as the scriptures and as clear as the American Constitution, and he called on Congress to pass civil rights legislation.

After President Kennedy was assassinated, some wondered if the new President, a son of the south, would carry forward the work of civil rights. Very soon they would know the answer. During the Senate debate on the Civil Rights Act, one of the longest debates in Senate history, President Lyndon Johnson used all his powers of persuasion, and they were considerable. (Laughter.) No one escaped the LBJ treatment -- (laughter) -- not senators, not their staffs, not even their families. "It is said that when President Johnson called reluctant senators at home and a child answered, he would say, "Now you tell your daddy that the President called." (Laughter.) "And he`d be very proud to have your daddy on his side." (Laughter.)

It was more than the force of Johnson`s personality that helped win the day, it was the force of President Johnson`s conviction on behalf of a just cause. As a young man, he`d seen the ugly effects of discrimination. As President, he was determined to fight it by law, regardless of the political risk. One Southern senator warned him, "It`s going to cost you the election." He replied, "If that`s the price I`ve got to pay, I will pay it gladly."

Lyndon Johnson is known to history as the President who championed and signed the Civil Rights Act. And we recognize and remember the contributions of this strong Texan and great American. And we`re honored to have his daughter, Luci Baines Johnson, with us today. We`re honored you`re here. Thanks for coming. I appreciate you coming. (Applause.)

We also remember the legislators of both parties who worked tirelessly to bring the bill to passage -- in particular, Senators Mike Mansfield of Montana, Senator Edward Dirksen of Illinois, and Senator Hubert H. Humphrey of Minnesota. When it mattered most, these principled men rose to the responsibility of their time, and our nation honors them today.

After the Civil Rights Act became law, the change was felt immediately all across America. In 1964, Dale Long was a 12-year-old boy living in Birmingham, Alabama. One day, before the law was passed, Dale and his brother convinced their father to take them to a movie where blacks had to enter through an alley and could only sit in the upstairs balcony. "I could see the look of humiliation on my dad`s face," he remembers. A few months after the Civil Rights Act, the Long brothers returned to that theater. As they remember it, they were with a friend. "We went to see a James Bond movie," Dale says, and this time they entered through the front door and sat where they pleased.

The indignity of Dale Long`s first experience at that movie theater seems like something that happened many lifetimes ago. Yet, such experiences are within the living memory of millions of our citizens. These past four decades in American life give witness to the power of good laws to prevent injustice and encourage the finest qualities of our national character.

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 gives all Americans another reason to be proud of our country. The work of equality is not done because the evil of bigotry is not finally defeated. Yet the laws of this nation and the good heart of this nation are on the side of equality. Vice President Dick Cheney
Vice President Richard B. Cheney has had a distinguished career as a businessman and public servant, serving four Presidents and as an elected official. Throughout his service, Mr. Cheney served with duty, honor, and unwavering leadership, gaining him the respect of the American people during trying military times.

Mr. Cheney was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, on January 30, 1941 and grew up in Casper, Wyoming. He earned his bachelor`s and master`s of arts degrees from the University of Wyoming. His career in public service began in 1969 when he joined the Nixon Administration, serving in a number of positions at the Cost of Living Council, at the Office of Economic Opportunity, and within the White House.

When Gerald Ford assumed the Presidency in August 1974, Mr. Cheney served on the transition team and later as Deputy Assistant to the President. In November 1975, he was named Assistant to the President and White House Chief of Staff, a position he held throughout the remainder of the Ford Administration.

After he returned to his home state of Wyoming in 1977, Mr. Cheney was elected to serve as the state`s sole Congressman in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was re-elected five times and elected by his colleagues to serve as Chairman of the Republican Policy Committee from 1981 to 1987. He was elected Chairman of the House Republican Conference in 1987 and elected House Minority Whip in 1988. During his tenure in the House, Mr. Cheney earned a reputation as a man of knowledge, character, and accessibility.

Mr. Cheney also served a crucial role when America needed him most. As Secretary of Defense from March 1989 to January 1993, Mr. Cheney directed two of the largest military campaigns in recent history - Operation Just Cause in Panama and Operation Desert Storm in the Middle East. He was responsible for shaping the future of the U.S. military in an age of profound and rapid change as the Cold War ended. For his leadership in the Gulf War, Secretary Cheney was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George Bush on July 3, 1991.

Mr. Cheney married his high school sweetheart, Lynne Ann Vincent, in 1964, and they have grown daughters, Elizabeth and Mary, and three granddaughters.

20 December 1989-George Bush invades Panama

Daddy was a killer too

RESIDENTS WOKE just after midnight to the dull sound of the Apache helicopter gunships swooping low across the city. Without warning bombs suddenly began ripping into buildings-factories, offices and residential districts.

The poorest areas bore the brunt of the assault. Whole tower blocks rocked by the "precision" bombs suddenly collapsed down on themselves, burying their inhabitants. Soon US troops were on the ground, shooting anyone who got in their way. Within 24 hours at least 2,500 people were dead.

This is not a description of Afghanistan, but of what happened in the Central American country of Panama 12 years ago this month. On 20 December 1989 US president George Bush, father of George W Bush, ordered the slaughter in Panama.

The United Nations estimates that 2,500 civilians died, and the Panamanian National Human Rights Commission puts the figure at over 4,000 civilians dead. Bush sent his forces into Panama as the attention of the world was gripped by events in Romania that Christmas, where an uprising that would topple the dictator Ceausescu was in full flow.

The US military took complete control of the Panamanian media, hospitals and morgues. They destroyed the radio stations. The US refused to allow the international press into the area. A glimpse of the savagery of the US assault on Panama only began to emerge afterwards.

"I saw [US] tanks run over and crush our dead. I saw a great number of civilian cars with whole families inside-women, kids and drivers torn to pieces and crushed," said one eyewitness. At one US roadblock a human rights investigation reported troops attacking a group of people in a car on 23 December:

"All five passengers were forced out of the car and told to lie face down on the ground. They were riddled with bullets. They were simply going to visit family members." US soldiers hid bodies, and some were dumped down garbage chutes. Human rights groups and the victims` families later uncovered mass graves.

Television footage of one grave being opened revealed body after body. A spokesperson for a Panamanian human rights group described the victims: "Young people 15, 16 and 18 years old. People in their 60s and 70s. People shot in the back of the head and those with their hands tied behind their backs."

The man who organised all this for George Bush was called Wayne Downing, then head of US special operations in Panama. Downing now works for George W Bush as the US`s Director of Counter-Terrorism.

Monsters made in the US

THE PRETEXT for the US invasion of Panama was to remove its ruler, General Noriega. George Bush labelled Noriega a drug runner and a dictator. Bush knew better than anyone. Noriega had been on the payroll of the US CIA, when it had been run by... George Bush.

Noriega pocketed over $100,000 a year from the CIA for his services to US interests. For years Bush, then the US drugs tsar, protected Noriega from prosecution for drugs running. This was because Noriega used his drug trade to ship arms to the US-backed Contras in Nicaragua. The US hoped Noriega would continue to be its loyal supporter in a strategically vital region, home to the Panama canal. But Noriega`s rule faced growing opposition in Panama, and as a result of that pressure he sought to shore up his rule by beginning to raise questions about the US`s role in Central America.

That was the signal for the US to use its massive firepower to punish a monster it had created, in a pattern that has been repeated ever since, from Iraq to Yugoslavia and Afghanistan. The US used the invasion of Panama as a testing ground.

Weapons like Stealth bombers, Apache helicopters and laser-guided missiles were unleashed on Panama. A year later they were used in the Gulf War, and now they are being used in Afghanistan.

Former US attorney general Ramsey Clarke admitted, "It was highly probable they used sophisticated weapons merely to test them. Above all there was the use beyond any conceivable necessity of just sheer firepower."

Left in hangars

THE US repression in Panama did not end with the bombing. US troops also took control of every public building and every organisation opposed to US policy. Thousands of individuals were arrested. Mauro Murillo was one of the many trade union leaders arrested.

As he was taken away one eyewitness captured on video footage could be heard saying, "Why are they after him? Why don`t they go after Bush instead? "He`s the one killing people all over the place. Why are they harassing a worker who is defending other workers?" In the week of the invasion 18,000 people who fled the bombing of their homes were forced to live in detention centres.

Community leader Rafael Olivardia described how the US troops rounded the men up for interrogation: "They grabbed all men aged between 15 and 55 years old and put them on army trucks. Our hands were tied behind our backs and we didn`t know where they were taking us."

The US bombing made 20,000 people homeless. Some lived in makeshift shelters among the charred remains. Others were housed in two aircraft hangars for more than a year. In one hangar there were ten foot square cubicles each for a whole family!

A legacy of misery

GEORGE BUSH declared in 1989 that "democracy is restored. Panama is free." Nothing could be further from the truth. As one Panamanian man said on video footage in the aftermath of the US invasion, "This is not democracy. They say get rid of Noriega but they are plenty worse. Because with Noriega we used to eat our three meals a day. Now we are not even eating one."

After Noriega was tried and jailed in the US in 1990 another US-backed president, Endara, was installed in Panama. He too soon faced a wave of opposition. In 1991 there were demonstrations by students protesting against government policies and price increases. Some 2,000 people also took to the streets demanding compensation for the families who had died.

A year later there were demonstrations when US secretary of defence Dick Cheney inspected US military bases in Panama. Again in 1997 a wave of protest swept Panama when 21,000 teachers went on strike over a plan to "reform" education. Panama is now being hit by the global economic crisis. As the Economist reported in September," Discontent is growing as the economy slows.

"Riots over bus fares have been followed by disturbances this week in Colon, the second city, where crime and poverty are rife."

Nächste Runde im Bush-Bashing: Michael Moores neuer Film "Fahrenheit 9/11" ist eine zweistündige Abrechnung mit dem Präsidenten. Noch nie hat ein Dokumentarfilm schon vor seiner US-Premiere (am 25.6.) soviel Aufsehen erregt wie "Fahrenheit 9/11". Moore möchte damit Bushs Wiederwahl verhindern. Während Hollywoodstars bei Previews begeistert waren, kritisieren Republikaner den Film als "Schulungsfilm für die El Quaida".






Es ist Krieg im Irak, es ist Wahlkampf in Amerika. Und Michael Moore schlägt wieder zu. Mit bitterer Satire spießt er die Politik Bushs und seiner Vasallen auf: die fragwürdige Wahl, Sozialabbau und Arbeitslosigkeit, die Folgen des 11.September, der Krieg im Wüstensand. Seinen Erzfeind Bush führt er nach Strich und Faden vor: besonders dessen brillante Sprüche, zum Beispiel: "Die Elite ist meine Basis."

Zwei Stunden Rundumschlag mit Bildern, die viele Amerikaner in ihrem Fernsehen noch nicht gesehen haben. Regisseur Moore dazu trocken: "Ein schöner Film für diesen Sommer, und alle Spezialeffekte sind echt."

US-Konservative versuchen den Film zu unterdrücken


Am Freitag war Kinostart in Amerika. Nie zuvor hat in diesem Land ein Dokumentarfilm für so viel Wirbel gesorgt wie "Fahrenheit 9/11". Die Fans stehen Schlange - die Gegner wettern: Dies sei ein Rekrutierungsfilm für El Quaida. Im Internet gibt es den Aufruf, Kinos zu boykottieren, die Michael Moores Film zeigen. Hinter der Kampagne stehen republikanische Politiker wie Howard Kaloogian, der schon eine kritische Fernseh-Dokumentation über Ronald Reagan verhindert hat. Und das Weiße Haus spricht von einem großen Ärgernis. Tom Ortenberg vom Lion`s Gate Filmverleih: "Unseren Film wollten viele Konservative am liebsten völlig unterdrücken. Das ist eindeutig und mehrfach aktenkundig."

Der kanadische Filmverleiher Ortenberg war Michael Moores Rettung. Trotz Goldener Palme in Cannes hatte Moore keinen Vertrieb in den USA gefunden. Disney hatte unter politischem Druck den Vertrag gekündigt.





Bush liefert die Vorlagen


Die Welt steht in Flammen - und der Präsident ist im Dauerurlaub. Natürlich ist Michael Moore ein Polemiker mit dem Ziel, George Bush lächerlich zu machen. Aber der Präsident hilft ihm auch, wo er kann: "Wir müssen den Terror stoppen. Alle Nationen müssen alles unternehmen, um diese Killer aufzuhalten…danke, so und jetzt guckt Euch diesen Schlag an." Michael Moore dazu: "In meinem Film sehen Sie all das in einer Form, wie Sie es noch nie gesehen haben - mit Bildern, wie sie so noch nicht gezeigt wurden, auf meine Weise, aber ich glaube, das ist die richtige."

Unterstützung von demokratischer Seite


Moore will wissen: Wie konnte der Kongress den "Patriot Act" die Einschränkung der Freiheitsrechte beschließen. "Wir lesen doch die meisten Gesetze nicht", sagt dieser Abgeordnete und deshalb liest Moore sie ihnen vor: "Ich bin sehr enttäuscht, dass sie diesen Film für Jugendliche nicht freigegeben haben", findet der Filmemacher. "Den Krieg sollten sie für jugendgefährdend erklären. Die 15-, 16-Jährigen sollen in ein oder zwei Jahren in diesen Krieg ziehen, aber wehe, sie sehen, was dort vorgeht. Das darf nicht sein."

Eine weitere Schikane der Konservativen: keine Fernsehwerbespots für den Film, das beeinflusse den Wahlkampf. Demokratische Politiker wie Mario Cuomo, der ehemalige Gouverneur von New York verteidigen Moore. "Sie versuchen, ihn mundtot zu machen. Sie wollen einfach nicht, dass wir uns auch mit anderen Informationen auseinandersetzen."

Bei der Vorpremiere für geladene Gäste kommt die New Yorker Prominenz: der Kinobesuch als politisches Bekenntnis. Unterstützung für Michael Moore, ob Tony Bennet oder Leonardo di Caprio. An der liberalen Ostküste hat Moore ein Heimspiel. Auch Schauspieler Richard Gere steht hinter dem Regisseur: "Er ist jemand, der seine Meinung sagt, und viele Menschen hier stimmen ihm zu. Ich auch. Ich mag nicht immer seine Methoden, aber seinen Standpunkt teilt hier doch jeder auf der Straße." Genauso wie Ex-Tennisstar John McEnroe: "Ich habe sechs Kinder, einige sind alt genug, um in diesen Krieg zu ziehen. Eine furchtbare Vorstellung. Ich hoffe, der Film zeigt, was da wirklich vorgeht." Und die Künstlerin Yoko Ono: "Er ist mutig, äußerst talentiert, ich achte ihn sehr."




Positive Publikumsresonanz


Michael Moore, der Provokateur. Im Film haut er einen Kongressabgeordneten nach dem anderen an: "Haben Sie Kinder", fragt er sie. "Wird es nicht Zeit, dass wir sie als Soldaten in den Irak schicken?" Natürlich will niemand seine Kinder opfern. Der Krieg ist ja schließlich jugendgefährdend. Der Film zeigt Bilder von zivilen Opfern aus dem Irak, vor denen die politisch Verantwortlichen am liebsten davon laufen.

Das Publikum reagiert fast durchweg positiv. Nun ja, wer Moore nicht mag, geht auch nicht in diesen Film. "Hat mir sehr gut gefallen", sagt ein Kinobesucher. "Der Film zeigt: Bush ist ein Serien-Lügner." Weitere Stimmen: "Eine große Bilderflut, kaum zu verdauen, aber eine brillante Arbeit." "Furchterregend. Wir Amerikaner und unsere Medien lassen das alles zu. Es ist so außer Kontrolle, dass niemand mehr in der Lage sein mag, das noch zu stoppen."

Der Krach um den Film hat Michael Moore nicht geschadet. Immer mehr Kinos wollen seinen Film zeigen, viele Vorstellungen sind ausverkauft. Und vielleicht wird dies der erste Dokumentarfilm, der eine Präsidentschaftswahl mit entscheidet.

Michael Moore, geboren 1954 in Flint, Michigan, arbeitet als Regisseur, Fernsehmoderator und Schriftsteller. Seine Karriere begann er als Journalist. Er war über zwei Jahre Herausgeber des bekannten linken Magazins "Mother Jones" bevor er sich dem Film zuwandte.

Berühmt wurde er durch seine Dokumentarfilme "Roger & Me" (1989) und "Bowling for Columbine". Für den Film, der sich mit der Waffenobsession der Amerikaner auseinandersetzt, wurde 2002 als erster Dokumentarfilm in den Wettbewerb bei den Filmfestspielen in Cannes aufgenommen und gewann den "Prix du 55ème anniversaire du Festival de Cannes". Im März 2003 erhielt "Bowling for Columbine" auf den 75. Academy Awards den Oscar als bester Dokumentarfilm.

Mit "Stupid White Men" schrieb Michael Moore einen Millionenbestseller, der hierzulande monatelang auf Platz 1 der Bestsellerlisten steht. "Querschüsse. Downsize This!", der Vorläufer zu "Stupid White Men", wurde ebenfalls ein Bestseller. Michael Moore lebt mit seiner Familie in New York City.

Wenn eine Wirtschaft 40 million neue Arbeitsplätze in 20 Jahren geschaffen hat, dann relativiert sich der Verlust von 3 Millionen Arbeitsplätze in einer Rezession. Zumal der Trend sich gedreht hat, die Erholung eingetreten ist, und dieser Verlust sich jetzt auf 2 Millionen reduziert hat.

Die Rezession hat bekannteweise Anfang 2000 begonnen, bevor Bush gewählt wurde. Danke seiner Steuerkürzungen und seiner liberalen Wirtschaftspolitik befindet sich die amerikanische Wirtschaft in einem Erholungsprozess, während, wie ich gesagt habe, die deutsche Wirtschaft stagniert.

Der Boom der 90er Jahren ist nicht Clinton zu verdanken, sondern der liberalen Wirtschaftspolitik von Reagan. Das ist eine Tatsache, die heute von den meisten Wirtschaftswissenschaftern erkannt ist.

Dass einige Milliardäre in der Amtszeit von Bush noch reicher geworden sind ist nicht als negativ zu bewerten.
Das ist der Fehler aller derjenigen, die den Kapitalismus nicht verstehen und auf den Erfolg von Anderen neidisch sind.

Auch in Russland sind in der letzten Zeit die Millionäre reicher geworden. Trotzdem schreitet die russische Wirtschaft voran.

Introduction
President Bush`s pro-growth policies have helped create more than 1.5 million new jobs since last August. Five recent reports detail how the recovery is not only creating new jobs, but also creating good, high-paying jobs. These studies disprove the Kerry campaign`s claim that the jobs being created are low-income positions and counter Kerry`s continuing doom and gloom rhetoric talking down the economy.

Five Recent Reports On The Economy Adding High-Paying Jobs

1. FactCheck.org, July 9

Solid job growth in higher-paying occupations:
"A new set of numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics actually shows solid growth in employment in relatively higher-paying occupations including construction workers, health-care professionals, business managers, and teachers, and virtually no growth at all in relatively lower-paying occupations including office clerks and assembly-line workers. It`s the most detailed breakdown yet -- looking at 154 different job and industry groupings. These statistics are a FactCheck.org exclusive -- supplied to us by BLS at our request and not previously published."

Data contradicts Kerry`s claims:
"As we sort out the raw data, employment has recently increased by more than 1 million in categories that on average paid above the median earnings of $541 per week, while employment was virtually unchanged in categories paying below the median. That`s comparing the most recent 12 months with the same period a year earlier. By that measure, the jobs gained are overwhelmingly good jobs -- the very opposite of the claim made by Kerry and his allies."

Higher-paying jobs being added now and over last three years:
"The pattern shows even more dramatically going back three years, over which lower-paying categories lost more than half a million while higher-paying categories gained 1.6 million." Data contradicts notion that job growth is in low-paying jobs:
"Despite assertions by some that most of the recent employment gains are in low wage jobs, occupations that are relatively well-paid account for most of the net increase in employment between June 2003 and June 2004, according to the latest household survey data. Although the data do not prove that every new job is high paying, they do contradict the notion that most of the job growth is in low-paying jobs."

Over 71% of the net increase in employment in the past year was in well-paid occupations:
"Between June 2003 and June 2004, 71.4 percent of the net increase in employment was in three relatively well-paid occupational categories: management, professional and related occupations (23.1 percent); construction and extraction occupations (36.1 percent); and installation, maintenance and repair occupations (12.2 percent). The earnings in these occupational categories are higher than the median and much higher than the earnings of the typical hamburger flipper. Most of the workers in well-paid occupations have earnings in the middle range or higher." 3. Heritage Foundation, June 30

Zero growth in "burger-flipper jobs" relative to overall labor force:
"There will be zero growth in `burger-flipper jobs` relative to the overall labor force, according to U.S. Department of Labor projections for 2002-2012. In 2002, there were almost 3 million `chefs, cooks, and food preparation workers` in the U.S. The spring 2004 Occupational Outlook Quarterly anticipates 12 percent growth in food-related work in the decade ahead. The real joke here is that 12 percent is exactly the projected growth rate of the overall labor force as well."

High-quality sectors expected to improve:
"Jobs in what some might call high-quality sectors are a different story. In management fields, the computer and information systems sector experienced the fastest growth (36 percent). The fastest growing professions are software engineers (45 percent); computer scientists and database administrators (42 percent); environmental engineers (38 percent); social and human service assistants (49 percent); postsecondary teachers (38 percent); physician assistants (49 percent); dental hygienists (43 percent); and so forth." Three-quarters of recent job growth were in industries that pay above national average:
"Three quarters of the new jobs created in May were in industry categories that pay an average hourly rate in excess of the overall average hourly rate in the private sector."

Full-time employment is prominent:
"Since the start of the Bush Administration, full-time employment has averaged 82.57 percent, nearly a full percentage point higher than full-time employment during the same period of the first Clinton Administration. In the past year, the number of part-time employees has declined by 240,000, while full-time positions have increased by more than one million. More than 80 percent of part-time workers in May indicate that they have chosen parttime employment for non-economic reasons." Average weekly earnings higher for occupations that grew in 2003:
"High-paying jobs are growing the fastest during this recovery. Employment and earnings data from the BLS show that between the fourth quarter of 2002 and the fourth quarter of 2003, average full-time employment grew by 1.4 million across five of the 10 major occupation groups and declined by 598,000 across the remaining occupation groups. For the occupations that saw growth, average weekly earnings were $674 in 2002 compared with $613 for occupations that saw employment decreases."

Jobs are being added in the top half of the pay scale 2.6 times faster than the bottom half:
"EPF examined employment change between January and December 2003 in 187 job categories defined in terms of occupation and industry sector. Figure 3 shows that since January 2003, net employment growth in the jobs that pay above the median weekly wage exceeded net employment growth in the lower paying jobs by more than 1.1 million (1.8 million versus 679,000). The recovering job market is producing net employment growth in the top half of the pay scale 2.6 times faster than in the bottom half." 6. Bloomberg News, July 19 Many economists including Democrats such as former Federal Reserve Governor Laurence H. Meyer either disagree with Kerry`s conclusions or say they can`t be proven ``That`s a story that`s over-hyped,`` Meyer said. ``Over the last several months we`ve had very strong growth in employment, and within that growth of employment there were many good jobs being created again.`` ``It`s simply not true that we have data that can track job- quality over the short-run,`` Bosworth, who headed the President`s Council on Wage and Price Stability during the Jimmy Carter administration and is now a senior economist at Brookings, said in an interview. ``Everything that`s being said about this issue is just speculation.`` Randy Ilg, the BLS economist who has compiled the job-quality statistics for 20 years, said combining the latest industry and occupation figures shows growth has been somewhat faster in categories paying above the median of $541 a week. Yet the sample of 1.3 million new jobs this year in a workforce of 131 million job holders is too small to make firm conclusions, he said in an interview. Darf in den Wallstreet-Online Börsenforen von Nutzern für Parteien, Organisationen, Dienstleistungen und Produkte geworben werden?

Ist es zulässig, diese Werbung hinter einer "Diskussion", die unsachlich (meine Partei/Organisation ist die beste, alle anderen sind mies etc.) geführt wird und/oder einer Propaganda ähnelt, zu verstecken? Wo ist die Grenze?

Ich kenne es von anderen Foren, daß die Benutzung des Forums als kostenlose Werbeplattform generell nicht zulässig ist. Möchte man aber dennoch werben, so muß man dies bei den Moderatoren vorher anmelden, um dafür ggf. Geld zu bezahlen. Andernfalls wird derartiges rigoros gelöscht.

Du siehst ebenfalls richtig, dass Werbung, auch Parteienwerbung aus gutem Grund hier nicht zugelassen wird.

Ich habe mich aus folgenden Gründen trotzdem entschlossen, diesen Thread nicht zu sperren:

1. GW Bush ist für Deutsche nicht wählbar; eine evtl. Werbung ginge also ins Leere.

2. Die Herkunft der Texte von der Bush-Wahlwerbung muss deutlich gekennzeichnet sein.

3. Massive Wahlwerbung in politischen Diskussions- und Informationsthreads wäre störender.

4. Art. 1 und Art. 5(2) GG sehe ich durch diesen Thread nicht verletzt.

Danke, Werbung oder verkappte Werbung hat in einer sachlichen Diskussion nichts zu suchen (Es sei denn, der Forenbetreiber hat ein eigenes Interesse daran.). Die Sache ist damit für mich geklärt.

Parteienwerbung geschickt in Argumente verpackt, ist ja noch ganz "nett". Plumpe Agitation, wie von einigen Spezies hier betrieben, ist allerdings unerträglich.

Kleines Mißverständnis. Mir ging es in #58 lediglich um Werbung für Parteien, Dienstleistungen, Produkte etc. seitens der Forennutzer. So ein Forum stellt doch eine ideale Plattform dar, um kostenlos möglichst viele Leser/Kunden/Wähler für sich zu gewinnen!? Sozusagen als Test.

wenn du alles als linksradikal bezeichnest, was sich links von der Jungen Freiheit oder von konservativ.de bewegt, magst du mit der Charakterisierung meiner eigenen politischen Haltung richtig liegen.

Die hat aber nichts zu tun mit meiner MOD-Tätigkeit.
Die Auflagen, die ich dir mache (nämlich zu den kopierten Texten die Quelle anzugeben) mache ich anderen auch. Dass es dich ganz besonders oft erwischt liegt nur daran, dass niemand die Quelle so oft weglässt wie du.


Der andere Bush-Thread von Joerver ist ein Informationsthread, der Infos (teilweise auch pro Bush) aus der Presse zusammenträgt; allerdings ist da keine direkte Wahlwerbung bei. Deshalb wurde deine Wahlwerbung in diesem Thread gelöscht.

Schon alleine die Argumentation mit dieser "Wahlwerbung", ist doch lächerlich. Das zeigt aber, wie sehr dieser Thread einigen hier schlaflose Nächte bereitet.

-das schlimmste Terrorregime eines Saddam Hussein wurde dank der Politik von Bush beseitigt.

Und im übrigen bestimmen die US Bürger ihren zukünftigen Präsidenten durch eine demokratische Wahl und zum Glück nicht die Deutschen, die durch linksslastige Medien in eine bestimmte Richtung beeinflußt werden !!!

In fact, one could argue, because this is something we have been denied, gay and lesbian couples will take the contract of marriage more seriously. Throughout history, marriage has changed with society. Those opposed to gay civil marriage often talk about the “tradition” of marriage. Most have trouble articulating a good reason not to have it so they are left only with the flimsy argument that, “It has always been this way.“ If this argument sounds familiar, it is. Segregationists used to say the same thing during the Civil Rights struggle four decades ago. Those opposed to gay marriage never mention how the institution of marriage has changed during the last 2,000 years. As society has evolved, becoming better educated and more tolerant, the traditions and acceptable definitions of marriage have been altered. If marriage had not changed throughout human history:

- An adult man would be allowed to marry a 12 year-old girl.
- Someone could be forced into a marriage arranged by their parents.
- A person would not be allowed to marry someone of another race.

- A person could not marry someone of a different religion.

- Committed gay and lesbian couples are being used as a scapegoat for the weakened institution of marriage. What is a bigger threat to marriage: Britney Spears’ 55 hour marriage or a committed lesbian couple pledging to spend their lives together? You cannot blame gay and lesbian Americans for a divorce rate approaching 50%. There are many complicated reasons for the high rate of failed marriages. Instead of examining those causes, some on the radical right find it easier to blame gay and lesbian families. If those on the extreme right were really interested in “strengthening” marriage, they would be proposing a Constitutional amendment to prohibit no-fault divorce. Or they would be looking for ways to eliminate adultery.

Das sehe ich auch so.

Auch für Europa wäre eine zweite Amtszeit von Bush hilfreich.
Nichts bringt Europa trotz der provozierten Teilung Europas durch die Amerikaner mehr zusammen, als ein Bush im Weissen Haus.
Die Bush Fans in Europa wie Aznar, Blair und Berlusconi wurden bereits oder werden in naher Zukunft entsorgt und Europa ist durch Bush`s Politik gezwungen eine eigene weltpolitische Linie zu finden, die sich zwangsläufig von der amerikanischen differenzieren wird.

Mit einem Kerry im Weissen Haus würde das alte WischiWaschi wieder beginnen und Europa würde sich als nettes Anhängsel der Ameikaner sehen, die die Führung übernehmen und Europa dackelt hinterher. So was hilft nicht eine eigene Identität zu entwickeln.
Dazu braucht es dann schon eines Antipoden wie Bush, damit Europa in die Hufe kommt.

Boston - Spitzenpolitiker der US-Demokraten betonten auf ihrem Wahlparteitag in Boston (Massachusetts) den Führungsanspruch der USA in der Welt. Gleichzeitig
kritisierten sie scharf die Politik von US-Präsident George W. Bush, der die USA zunehmend verhasst und isoliert gemacht habe. „Amerika muss ein Licht für die Welt sein“, forderte US-Senator Edward Kennedy am zweiten Tag des Parteikonvents, auf dem John Kerry offiziell als Präsidentschaftskandidat der Partei bestätigt werden soll.


Kerry werde als US-Präsident „die Wunden der Nation heilen und ein Symbol für Respekt sein in einer Welt, die sich wieder nach Frieden sehnt“, sagte Kennedy. Der Irak-Krieg sei unnötig und falsch gewesen und habe den Kampf gegen den internationalen Terrorismus erschwert. Vergessen der Skandal, als Teresa Heinz Kerry vor drei Tagen einen Reporter mit den Worten „Schieb`s dir in den Hintern!“ beschimpft hatte. Als die Frau des Demokraten John Kerry am Dienstagabend auf dem Podium stand, hielt sie eine selbstbewusste, warmherzige Rede – ohne Hilfe eines professionellen Schreibers: „Es ist mein Kopf, mein Herz und meine Sprache.“

Eindringlich warb Teresa für ihren Mann:

Ich glaube, dass die US Wahl und deren Ausgang einen wichtigen Einfluß auf die zukünftige weltwirtschaftliche Entwicklung und auch auf die Finanzmärkte haben wird und daher gehören auch Diskussionen über die US Wahl in ein Finanz- und Wirtschaftsforum , wie dies W.O. sein will.
Wenn es unzählige Anti-Bush Threads hier bei W.O. gibt, darf es zumindest auch einen einzigen Pro Bush Thread geben.
Zumindest bin ich das in einem freien Land wie Deutschland , das eine freie Meinungsäußerung kennt , so

Was es nicht alles gibt auf dieser Welt.

Bezeichnenderweise wird John Kerry von den Bush-Anhängern in den USA als der liberalste Senator im US-Senat diffamiert und der designierte Vize Präsident Edwards als der 5. liberalste Senator. Liberal ist schlechthin das Schimpfwort mit dem Bush-Anhänger ihre politischen Gegener belegen, zumindest in den USA.

Und ein Massachusetts-Liberaler wie John F. Kerry ist für einen Bush-Anhänger so das Übelste was auf dem Erdboden herumkreucht.
Bezeichnenderweise ist nämlich auch Ted Kennedy, der zweite Senator neben Kerry der aus aus Massachusetts kommt, die personifizierte Hassfigur eines jeden aufrechten Bush-Anhängers und Ted Kennedy gilt als der Liberale schlechthin in den USA. Kerry ist es nur für die Dauer des Wahlkampfes.

Nr.124 du musst mir nicht erklären wie Republikaner sind und deine Aussagen zur republikanischen Partei treffen vielleicht auf die Betschwester George W. Bush zu, aber können nicht auf die republikanische Partei insgesamt übertragen werden.
In dieser Partei gibt es zum Beispiel fiskal Konservative, die mit der defizitären Haushaltspolitik und dem Aufblähen des Staatsapparates durch Bush überhaupt nichts anfangen können, und das sind keine religiös motivierten Kirchgäger, sondern Pragmatiker. Ja auch die und viele andere Strömungen gibt es in der republikanischen Partei.

Und die CDU/CSU dient als Vergleich schlecht, da sie sie kaum Züge der amerikanischen Republikaner aufzeigt noch als liberal angesehen werden kann.

Diesen Spagat bringst nur du fertig Daniela alias Laura dich als Liberale zu outen und gleichzeitig eine begeisterte Bush Anhängerin zu sein.

Da es für diese Konstellation keine rationalen Gründe gibt, gehe ich davon aus, dass diese Einstellung eher hormonell bedingt ist. Frauen scheinen in der Hinsicht doch empfänglicher zu sein.

Nur, wenn man in dem anderen Thread, dem Anti-Bush-Thread, etwas Pro-Bush postet, wird dies kurzerhand gelöscht.
Denkt einmal darüber nach.

Dort wird linker Populismus betrieben, somit jede andere Meinung unterdrückt.

Wenn Du die CDU/CSU nicht als liberal ansehen tust,so kann dies ja in bestimmten Punkten zutreffen; dafür haben wir ja dann aber die FDP , die in einer schwarz/gelben Regierung liberale Grundsätze anmahnen tut.

Aber es geht ja den linken Bush Gegnern in Wirklichkeit nicht um die Person Bush , sondern darum, dass sie nicht ertragen können, dass die USA wirtschaftlich und militärisch so eine dominante Rolle in der Welt spielen tut.
Aber eines ist sicher, dass der frühere Vietnam Kämpfer Kerry, der sich noch groß dafür rühmt, dass er freiwillig in den Krieg (Vietnam) gezogen ist (und Bush nicht) und versprechen tut , dass er als US Präsident dafür sorgen wird, dass die USA ihre militärische und wirtschaftliche Vorrangstellung beibehalten wird. Und wer die USA angreift (wie z.B.Terroristen) hat mit der größten Gegenwehr der USA zu rechnen, was Kerry in einer Rede besonders betonte. In der Außenpolitik wird somit die Politik Bush durch Kerry entsprechend fortgesetzt.
Für die Finanzmärkte wird ein Wahlsieg von Kerry sogar für positiv angesehen, wie in der Finanzwelt so zu hören ist.
Die Linken in Deutschland werden aber ihre Problem haben , dass Ihnen im Falle eines Wahlsieges von Kerry der Buhmann Bush abhanden kommen wird und da kommt bei mir sehr große Freude auf ; denn so einfach kann man den Kerry nicht als Buhmann aufbauen

du weichst der Fragestellung aus und lenkst davon ab, warum gerade du als Liberale eine Bush-Anhängerin bist. Dein ganzes Gefasel von den Linken in Deutschland und der CDU und deren sogenannten liberalem Anhängsel FDP hat nichts mit Bush zu tun. Warum unterstützt du als Liberale nicht den liberalen Kerry, zumal der doch wie du sagst in der Aussenpolitik auch nicht anders handeln würde als Bush?

Bush aber steht für alles, nur nicht für liberale Positionen. Er ist der Gegensatz von allem was liberal ist. Er ist ein christlicher Fundamentalist schlimmer als der Papst, den auch keiner als liberal bezeichnen würde.

Ich will mal den Irakkrieg aussen vorlassen. Schon die Wirtschaftspolitik dieses Mannes ist ein Disaster für viele Amerikaner.
Bush ist der erste Präsident seit Herbert Hoover, während der grossen Depression in den 20ern des vorigen Jahrhunderts, in dessen Amtszeit die amerikanische Wirtschaft Arbeitsplätze verloren hat.
Nur zum Vergleich, während Clinton`s Amtszeit wurden 22 Millionen neue Arbeitsplätze in den USA geschaffen.

Ausserdem ist Bush der erste Präsident seit dem zweiten Weltkrieg in dessen Amtszeit das Nettoeinkommen des Amerikaners in zwei aufeinanderfolgenden Jahren gefallen ist.
Zum Vergleich, das Einkommen der US-Wirtschaftsbosse ist im letzten Jahr um gut 20% gestiegen.

Die Rekord-Staatsdefizite, die Bush für zukünftige Generationen aufgetürmt hat, seien nur am Rande erwähnt und dass der Demokrat Clinton für Haushaltüberschüsse während seiner Amtszeit sorgte, zeigt, dass die Wirtschafts- und Fiskalpolitik bei den Republikanern und besonders unter Bush schlecht aufgehoben ist.

Ich habe oben ausgeführt, dass ich mit einem US Präsident Kerry sehr gut leben kann, da Kerry ebenso wie Bush gegen die Terroristen dieser Welt gnadenlos vorgehen wird und
nicht wie die neue sozialistische spanische Regierung den Terroristen nachgibt und aus dem Irak die spanischen Truppen abziehen tut.
Ich wende mich gegen das total überzogene Gepusche gegen Bush , das total ungerechtfertigt ist. Das heißt insofern nicht, dass ich alles bei Bush gut finde.
Neue Arbeitsplätze werden seit Beginn des Jahres wieder in erheblichen Umfang in den USA geschaffen , da Bush richtigerweise die Konjunktur in den USA durch Konjunkturprogramme massiv angeschoben hat.
Arbeitsplatzvernichtung wird seit vielen Jahren durch die rot/grüne Regierung betrieben, indem alleine 600.000 Arbeitsplätze im Jahre 2003 in Deutschland vernichtet wurden.
Die USA hat einen hochdynamischen Arbeitsmarkt, wo sehr
schnell wieder eingestellt wird, wenn die Konjunktur besser läuft, was in Deutschland aufgrund der riesigen Blokaden auf dem Arbeitsmarkt nicht erfolgt.
Wenn für Dich der Bush ein Arbeitsplatzvernichter ist; dann ist der Schröder ein Arbeitsplatzvernichter hoch drei; gerade diese Einseitigkeit in der Anti Bush Argumentation bringt mich auf die Palme !!!

Dear Senator Kerry:

Since beginning your campaign for President, you have consistently highlighted your military service as one reason why voters should support your candidacy. You have consistently implied that your military service has prepared you to serve in our country’s highest office. However, we have grave concerns about positions you have taken that affect our men and women in uniform.

You voted in favor of going to war with Iraq. In fact, your speeches in the Senate clearly expressed support for not only military action in Iraq, but also the removal of Saddam Hussein. However, as your campaign for President failed to gain momentum, your views on Operation Iraqi Freedom changed. At one point, you even declared yourself an anti-war candidate.

While your position on the war has changed multiple times, what’s been most troubling is your failure to support our sons and daughters serving in combat. Your vote against the $87 billion to fund our troops was unconscionable. You said it would be “irresponsible” to vote against the $87 billion - then you voted against it.

Now both you and your running mate say you are “proud” of your vote against the very funding that is providing our troops with body armor, equipment, combat pay, and health benefits.

You tout your own military experience, but turn your back on the people who are currently defending our country. Leaders must make principled decisions that require conviction. You appear to make decisions based upon perceived popular opinion.

American troops have nobly put themselves on the frontlines to protect our freedom. They and their families deserve a leader who will stand with them regardless of circumstance. You, sir, owe our troops and their families a clear explanation for your lack of support.

Anti-Family Constitutional Amendment

We should not be surprised that the radical right is using its last desperate weapon against gays and lesbians. With public opinion polls showing increased support for inclusion and fairness, the extreme right is desperately trying to scare the American people. Fear is all they have left. Our nation`s history shows fear and bigotry will eventually lose to liberty and fairness. However, we still must forcefully counter any attacks coming from the radical right. Our best weapons are logic and fairness.

Since the United States Supreme Court`s landmark Lawrence decision, which provides basic constitutional protection for gays and lesbians, and the Massachusetts` marriage decision, the radical right has been throwing a temper tantrum of sorts. With losses mounting in the courtroom and the court of public opinion, the radical right now depends solely on desperate rhetoric about the "danger" of civil marriage for gay and lesbian families. This strategy forms the lynchpin of the radical right`s last hope for stopping equality and liberty for all Americans.

That`s why a Colorado Congresswoman has introduced an anti-family Constitutional amendment, "to protect marriage." House Joint Resolution 56 would amend the U.S. Constitution to define marriage as only between a man and a woman. The proposal says:



Marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman. Neither this Constitution, nor the constitution of any state, shall be construed to require that marriage or the legal incidents thereof be conferred upon any union other than the union of a man and a woman.

To become part of the Constitution, this amendment must be approved by two-thirds of the House and Senate. Then, three-quarters of state legislatures must support the amendment. It is not easy to amend the Constitution, but we must take this threat seriously.

We base our opposition to an amendment on the principles of American freedom outlined in our Constitution. History will not look back kindly on this assault of our Constitution. This amendment is the product of the radical right. They have mastered the art of gay-bashing after decades of practice. The anti-family federal marriage amendment would turn back the clock on our basic rights by denying not only civil marriage, but also civil unions and possibly even domestic partnerships. That is why Log Cabin considers support for this amendment a declaration of war on gay and lesbian families and an attack on our sacred Constitution.

Log Cabin understands that sharp disagreements exist about how to recognize gay and lesbian families. This is a new and complex issue for all Americans. We encourage a healthy national dialogue. Log Cabin will fight the Federal Marriage Amendment all across this county, state by state, if we must. We will use our political resources to stop anyone from writing discrimination into our Constitution.

Die Rede vom Kerry war schon stark.
Mit mitärischen Gruß ; das würde sich ja selbst der Bush nicht getrauen !
Und die Kampfansage an die Terroristen und wer versucht, Amerika anzugreifen , wird die mititärische Stärke von Amerika zu spüren bekommen usw. usw........ Mehr Truppen für den Irak und mehr Engagement der anderen Bündnispartner (da wird aber der Schröder geschluckt haben!), zeigt deutlich , dass der frühere Vietnam Käpfer Kerry weiß, worauf zukünftig die Schwerpunkte in der USA Außenpolitik zu legensind.
Ob die Linken und die vielen "Gutmenschen" in Deutschland
dies alles mit großer Begeisterung aufgenommen haben, mag ich mal bezweifeln !

Ja Daniela du Liberale, die sich am Fundamentalisten Bush berauscht und den liberalen Kerry verabscheut, wir Männer bevorzugen echte Kriegshelden wie Kerry und keine Schreibtischsessel-Kommandanten wie Bush, die in aufgeblähten Fliegeruniformen breitbeinig herumhopsen, wenn der Pulverdampf sich verzogen hat.

Bei Kerry stehen an militärischen Auszeichnungen schliesslich ein silver star, ein bronze star und drei purple hearts im Militärstammbuch.

Das einzige was vom Militärdienst Bush`s in der Heimatschutzbrigade übrig blieb, ist ein zahnmedizinischer Befund.
Rest Fehlanzeige, wie üblich bei diesem Schlappschwanz und Grossmaul.

Und noch zur Ergänzung.
Was Kerry vom Schreibtisch-Kommandeur und Vietnamkriegs-Abseiler Bush in Fragen von Krieg und Frieden unterscheidet, sind folgende entscheidenden Dinge, die er in seiner Rede vor dem Parteitag betonte.

The United States of America never goes to war because we want to, we only go to war because we have to.

Before you go to battle, you have to be able to look a parent in the eye and truthfully say: "I tried everything possible to avoid sending your son or daughter into harm`s way.

Eben diese grundsätzlichen Dinge hat aber der Schreibtisch-Kommandeur Bush ignoriert.

Die Amerikaner werden nicht so dumm sein Bush gegen Kerry auszutauschen. Afp berichtet heute, dass Kerry zwar vorne liegt aber nur wenig Auftrieb nach seiner Rede hat. Bis zur Wahl ist es noch eine Weile, die Republikaner haben ihren Event noch und schliesslich läuft auch noch Osama frei rum...
