hi,

Marktkapitalisierung YHOO ist 100 Mrd US$. Trotzdem absurd hoch.
Yahoo Warns Revenue Growth Isn`t Sustainable as Profit Soars; Shares Drop
By Mylene Mangalindan
Yahoo Warns on Revenue as Fourth-Quarter Profit Rises (Update5)
(Adds European stock trading in second through fourth
paragraphs, rewrites first paragraph to emphasize revenue.)
Santa Clara, California, Jan. 12 (Bloomberg) -- Yahoo! Inc.,
the biggest Web-navigation company, warned that revenue growth
isn`t sustainable as it reported a jump in fourth-quarter sales
and profit. The shares fell.
Revenue rose to $201.1 million in the quarter, from $91.3
million in the same 1998 period. Chief Financial Officer Gary
Valenzuela told investors on a conference call late yesterday that
Yahoo`s revenue growth rate isn`t sustainable, however, and the
shares fell as much as 4.5 percent.
That warning rippled through Asian and European markets,
pulling Internet-related shares lower as investors questioned the
value of companies that in many cases are yet to make profits.
Japan`s broad Topix index fell 1.3 percent as NTT DoCoMo, a
wireless and Internet company, led decliners. QXL.com Plc,
Europe`s biggest online auctioneer, fell as much as 5.4 percent.
Yahoo shares dropped 17 3/8 to 380 in Europe, according to
Madoff Securities International Ltd. in London. In regular U.S.
trading yesterday, they fell 8.9 percent to 397 3/8. The earnings
were announced after the close.
Santa Clara, California-based Yahoo said net income rose to
$44.7 million, or 15 cents a share, in the latest quarter, from
$3.8 million, or 1 cent, a year earlier. Profit, excluding
amortization and goodwill costs and payroll taxes on employee
stock option gains, was $57.6 million, or 19 cents a share.
While that beat the 15-cent average estimate from First
Call/Thomson Financial, unofficial ``whisper`` estimates were as
high as 20 cents a share.
Online Shopping
Yahoo has beefed up its shopping sites and is generating more
e-commerce sales to supplement advertising revenue. The efforts
paid off as the company benefited from the rush of online
merchants trying to reach its 105 million registered users via the
Web this holiday season.
``This is the first time they`re charging merchants for e-
commerce,`` said Safa Rashtchy, an analyst at U.S. Bancorp Piper
Jaffray. ``Ad revenue was very, very big this quarter.`` Rashtchy
rates the stock ``strong buy.``
Yahoo`s earnings came one day after a rival, America Online
Inc., said it would acquire the media titan Time Warner Inc. for
$178 billion in stock and assumed debt, raising speculation that
Yahoo would make an acquisition to better compete with AOL.
When asked whether the AOL acquisition caused Yahoo to change
its strategy, Chairman and Chief Executive Tim Koogle said,
``There`s no reason to divert from the path.`` He said Yahoo
didn`t see the need to own traditional content or media.
The AOL-Time Warner transaction will force media companies to
see the Web as an area they need to be in, Koogle said.
Yahoo also said it will split its stock 2 for 1, effective
Feb. 14, and will file a shelf registration for $750 million of
Yahoo shares to be used for acquisitions.
The company said its users doubled to more than 120 million
at the end of 1999. Outside the U.S., Yahoo`s audience exceeds 40
million. The company`s non-U.S. operations represented 13 percent
of the company`s revenue in the fourth quarter, the first time
that portion exceeded 10 percent.
Page views rose to an average of 465 million per day, from
167 million in December 1998. A page view is one electronic page

Yahoo Warns Revenue Growth Isn`t Sustainable as Profit Soars; Shares Drop

Tage warten. Habe am 13.1.99 zu einem Kurs von E 173 gekauft.
Enstpricht derzeit einer Verdopplung. Noch verflixte 2 Tage.
Selbst wenn der Kurs bei E 350 steht. O. K. Steuerfrei 100 % in
