Wharf`s <0004.HK> i-Cable gets HK FTNS licence

HONG KONG, Jan 18 (Reuters) - Wharf (Holdings) Ltd`s i-Cable Communications Ltd <1097.HK> was granted a fixed telecommunication network services (FTNS) licence on Tuesday, allowing i-Cable to launch broadband services this quarter.

Stephen Ng, deputy chairman and chief executive officer of i-Cable, collected the FTNS licence from the Office of the Telecommunications Authority.

He told reporters that i-Cable would launch the broadband service soon. The pay television and Internet services company said the licence would enable it to launch broadband multimedia services based on cable modem technology.

i-Cable today got fixed network licence, launches multimedia websites

Apple Daily quoted the speech of Benjamin Tong, Vice President of Multimedia Services of i-Cable Communications that the company would launch multimedia websites to match with the broadband online connection service launched in march. The company also plans to introduce Voice Over IP service one year later, taking a larger part in the telecommunications market. Today the comapny will be issued formally a fixed network licence by Office of Telecommunications Authority.

He predicted that the clients covered by optic-fibre network and broadband network would increase to 1.7 million and 1 million respectively at the end of this year, and the company would promote three main businesses, namely chargeable TV, broadband online service and Voice Over IP service.

i-Cable Communications (1097) has been granted by the government a licence for wireless fixed-communications network services (FTNS) yesterday. The company is expected to introduce its broadband service in the first quarter, said South China Securities. i-Cable also plans to launch a voice communications service in the next 12 to 18 months with a focus on the residential market.

As i-Cable will be focusing more and more on e-commerce , the brokerage suggests buying the stock as a long-term investment.

In a research report dated January 18, Merrill Lynch analyst Christine Leung said Wharf was trading at a 45 percent discount to net asset value (NAV) of HK$28.29 a share and had a price to earnings ratio (excluding i-Cable and New T&T) of 7.3 times estimated 2000 earnings per share and 6.2 times estimated 2001 earnings.

This is well below property investors` average discount to NAV of 18 percent and 12.5 times 2000 earnings and 13.2 times 2001 earnings, Leung said.

Return on equity should improve to 11.2 percent by 2001 from 6.3 percent in 1997 due to a turnaround at the company`s i-Cable Communications <1097.HK><ICAB.O> unit and better contribution from properties, she said.

Management efforts to convert industrial property to residential should yield an increase in NAV.

Wharf shares were down HK$0.60 or 2.98 percent at HK$16.30 on Wednesday afternoon.

denke das könnte schwer werden.

das einzige was mich bei der stange hält, ist die starke mutter wharf

könnte mir vorstellen, daß es da noch mehr inet aktivitäten geben könnte

würde aber jetzt nicht mehr nachkaufen,
obwahl sie an der nasdaq positiv eröffnet hat.

und müssen weitere Kooperationen eingehen um Ihre hochgesteckten Ziele
zu erreichen.

Die anderen sind doch bereits gelaufen. I-cable kommt in den nächsten
Wochen oder hoffentlich Tagen.

ich denke man könnte reduzieren.

Die kommen früher oder später. Es dauert halt vorneweg 1-2 Monate
bis neue Nachrichten folgen. Weißt Du zufällig wann die Zahlen
kommen?

Auf jedenfall bleibe ich investiert und hoffe auf €2,05!

Welche Werte gibt es denn denen man noch übermäßiges Potential noch
zutraut?? 20-30 höchstens. Auf meiner Liste steht i-cable, sybase, softnet,
backweb, paradyne, xxl.ee, teldafax und prout, denen ich überproportionales
Wachstum in der nächsten Woche noch zutraue.
