Medtronic Deploys Saba Learning to Ensure Regulatory Compliance At Manufacturing and Customer Sites

      REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Dec 10, 2001 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --
Saba Solution Empowers Medtronic to Demonstrate FDA Compliance Through Learning Management, Digital Signatures, and Certifications

Saba (Nasdaq: SABA), the leading provider of Human Capital Development and Management (HCDM) solutions, today announced that Medtronic, Inc. (NYSE: MDT), the world`s leading medical technology company, has licensed Saba Learning, Enterprise Edition for 38,000 learners and completed the first phase of deployment to its regulated manufacturing sites in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Galway, Ireland. This deployment marks a critical milestone in Medtronic`s global rollout of Saba Learning to its 25,000 employees and 13,000 customers in 120 countries worldwide to cost-effectively ensure compliance with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, and those of regulatory bodies outside the U.S.
Saba Learning will help Medtronic leverage the Internet to reduce training costs and centrally maintain training records to quickly demonstrate FDA compliance. Medtronic also plans to use the Saba system to help its customers -- including physicians, nurses, and healthcare professionals -- to use a Web browser to easily find and access timely training on new products and therapies.

Medtronic chose Saba Learning as the single system for consolidating multiple training systems and manual processes from four different business units. With Saba Learning, Medtronic has an integrated system to support all forms of learning, including instructor-led training, CDs, videos, and ad hoc on-the-job training, and to ensure that all training is tracked and documented as required by the FDA. Medtronic will use Saba Learning during FDA audits to rapidly demonstrate that training on SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) has occurred. Medtronic will use the Saba certifications functionality to automatically manage re-certifications, expiration notifications, and retraining to demonstrate to the FDA that people operating on manufacturing lines are certified.

"Medtronic`s evaluation team, comprised of 60 people, selected Saba Learning out of numerous systems for its strong support of employee development and customer education processes, and its commitment to supporting regulatory environments," said Dick Ploetz, Vice President, HR Operations and Systems, at Medtronic. "We were pleased with the Saba implementation process and look forward to expanding our global rollout to add support for e-learning, assessments, e-commerce, and multiple languages."

Saba Learning met Medtronic`s need for functionality depth, global scalability, and certification management, and its requirement to support electronic signatures as specified in the Code of Federal Regulations Section 21, Part 11 (21CFR11). Saba Learning will also integrate with Medtronic`s PeopleSoft HR system for employee data and its Agile and Documentum document management systems to ensure that new courses and certifications are created whenever a SOP is modified.

"The life sciences industry is realizing the absolute necessity of using a system such as Saba Learning to track training records, demonstrate regulatory compliance, and reduce learning costs," said Bobby Yazdani, Saba Founder and CEO. "We are pleased to work with Medtronic as they build products and provide learning to medical professionals to help solve the most challenging, life-limiting medical problems and restore health."

      REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Dec 10, 2001 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --
Saba Learning Enables Life Sciences Organizations to Develop and Deliver Innovative New Products Faster, While Maintaining Strict Regulatory Compliance

During a time when the life sciences industry faces new challenges and intensified pressures, Saba (Nasdaq: SABA) is helping these organizations meet their most important goal -- to produce and more quickly bring to market new products, while ensuring compliance with federal regulations. Saba, the leading developer of Human Capital Development and Management (HCDM) solutions, has rapidly emerged as the preferred e-learning software provider for the world`s leading life sciences organizations, including Aventis Pharma, Bayer Diagnostics, Medtronic, Novartis Animal Health, Novartis Pharma, Procter & Gamble Pharma, and Siemens Medical Solutions. By leveraging strong Saba experience and momentum in this vertical market, life sciences organizations can achieve measurable success in cost-effectively increasing the productivity and performance of their customers, partners, and employees.
Today, life sciences organizations must develop and deliver innovative new products faster than ever, amidst a complex regulatory environment and budget constraints. Experts in the life sciences industry say that it takes an average of 15 years for a product to reach the market, with research and development accounting for close to 20 percent of revenues. Every day that a product is not on the market represents a $1.5 million loss. To accelerate the process of bringing products to market, life sciences organizations have come to rely on Saba solutions, which significantly improve employee speed to competency, lower training costs, and help avoid the regulatory fines and shutdowns that result from noncompliance.

"We chose to partner with Saba because we share the vision that developing and retaining people is critical to maintaining a leadership position in the pharmaceutical industry," said JoAnn Dick, e-Learning Senior Manager for Aventis Pharma. "In addition, we think that the broad-based functionality of the Saba product will play a key role in the success of our learning project."

With Saba Learning, organizations can manage and deliver knowledge and skills throughout their extended enterprise. They can also maintain faultless training records to demonstrate compliance to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and show that all development, testing, and production practices are of the highest quality. Saba Learning helps organizations to ensure regulatory compliance with the following functionality:

-- Support for the Code of Federal Regulations Section 21, Part 11
(21CFR11) including electronic signatures and audit trail capabilities,
as well as built in analysis to determine the specific actions
      requiring an electronic signature
-- Support for the rules and regulations specified in GMP (Good
Manufacturing Practices) including the management of certifications,
notifications, SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) tracking, password
      security, records, and reporting

Additionally, Saba enables life sciences organizations to bring new products to market more quickly and ensure compliance, through close collaboration with its strong ecosystem of partners. Leading members of the Saba Content Alliance Partner program that provide standards-based life sciences learning content that interoperates with Saba Learning include: Friendly Design Software, PLATO Learning, SkillSoft, UniversityOfHealthCare.com, and VideoLearning Systems.
"With all the challenges facing the life sciences industry today, the best organizations will be those that mobilize their customers, partners, and employees with timely and accurate knowledge about their products and services -- empowering them for success," said Bobby Yazdani, Saba Founder and CEO. "Saba customers in the life sciences industry use the power of the Internet, with its anytime, anywhere access, to provide learning that improves productivity and ensures compliance with regulatory agency requirements."

PricewaterhouseCoopers Selects Saba Learning to Power Spain`s Most Comprehensive e-Learning Portal

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Dec. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Building upon its longtime U.S. alliance with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Saba (Nasdaq: SABA), the leading provider of Human Capital Development and Management (HCDM) solutions, today announced that PwC, the leading global professional services firm, is using Saba Learning, Enterprise Edition to power an e-learning services portal in Spain called E-learning.es. The new PwC portal -- considered to be the most comprehensive of its kind in Spain -- was launched on December 4, and is available in Spanish via a Web-browser, anywhere, anytime, to all organizations throughout the country.

In sharp contrast to Spain`s current, smaller, individually run e-learning projects, the goal of E-learning.es is to become the leading portal for online training and learning services nationwide. E-learning.es offers strategic training solutions for organizations requiring an integrated portfolio of learning content, technological infrastructure, security, consulting, and e-HR (Internet-based Human Resources) services from a variety of leading vendors. The E-learning.es portal allows organizations to quickly deploy e-learning to improve productivity and performance, while ensuring a high return on investment.

PwC is using Saba Learning, an Internet-based Learning Management System (LMS), as the technological infrastructure to support E-learning.es. The globally scalable, standards-based Saba system enables PwC to offer the most comprehensive, personalized e-learning solution available. By leveraging the Saba RDP (Rapid Deployment Package) to quickly and cost-effectively implement Saba Learning, PwC also gains a first mover advantage as an ASP (application service provider) in the region.

"Over the past year, PwC Spain and Saba have built a strong strategic alliance," said Juan M. Cruz, Director at PwC Human Resource Consulting Division. "Based on our successful experience with Saba, we knew that it had the best technological infrastructure and professional services to support E-learning.es. Our teamwork with Saba and other leading vendors will enable organizations in Spain to use E-learning.es to improve productivity and reduce the costs associated with training."

"PricewaterhouseCoopers is both an important strategic partner and a valued customer for Saba," said Bobby Yazdani, Saba Founder and CEO. "With PwC Spain, we can continue expanding our leadership in Europe and ensure that global organizations have the scalable systems required to cost-effectively deliver and manage skills and knowledge across customers, partners, and employees."

Norway`s Largest Airline Deploys Saba Learning to Help Maintain Regulatory Compliance

Braathens Completes Rapid Deployment Package in Four Weeks to Quickly Begin Managing Certifications

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Jan. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Saba (Nasdaq: SABA), the leading provider of Human Capital Development and Management (HCDM) solutions, today announced that Braathens, Norway`s largest airline, has deployed Saba Learning, Enterprise Edition to provide learning to its 5,000 employees. During an extremely difficult period in aviation history complicated by new, stringent federal regulations and an uncertain economic climate, Braathens is using the Saba system to cost-effectively manage certifications and maintain regulatory compliance. By participating in the Saba Rapid Deployment Program, Braathens deployed Saba Learning in just four weeks.

While Braathens is experiencing many of the same challenges faced by airlines in the US, it has always known that managing employee development is critical for maintaining its competitive advantage. Braathens was looking for a Learning Management System (LMS) to replace its proprietary system and to improve the tracking of certifications required by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). The strong certification and competency functionality of Saba Learning, as well as previous Saba experience in Norway with successful customers, such as The Competence Network of Norwegian Business and Industry (NKN), contributed to Braathens` selection of Saba Learning.

"We selected Saba Learning for its depth of functionality, usability, and support for the Norwegian language which will enable us to provide personalized, just in time training to our employees," said Kjell Espen Skjaevestad, Training Manager at Braathens. "We were very pleased with the Saba Rapid Deployment package and are looking forward to implementing the skills and competencies functionality of Saba Learning during the next phase of deployment."

In the first phase, Braathens will use Saba Learning to manage certifications and notifications, demonstrating that its flight crew, technical staff, ground crew, and managers have received training on topics such as security, safety, ticketing, information technology, simulations, dangerous goods, maintenance, cleaning, and catering. It will also use Saba Learning to support a blended learning environment by transitioning some courses from instructor-led to computer-based training and e-learning offerings. By accessing Saba Learning and the right training via a web browser -- anytime, anywhere -- employees will be able to quickly and easily keep certifications valid, and Braathens will be able to avoid the costly fines associated with non-compliance.

"We are pleased to build on our successful customer base in Norway with the addition of Braathens," said Bobby Yazdani, Saba Founder and CEO. "More and more organizations in highly regulated industries are using Saba solutions to cost-effectively maintain compliance with federal regulations, while improving the productivity and performance of their people."

      Hallo Zasterbaby,

Saba Plays Vital Role in Providing e-Learning to Public Sector

Saba Learning Enables Public Sector Organizations to Quickly Increase Productivity and Improve Ability to Respond to Public Needs

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Jan. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Adding to its growing presence in vertical markets such as life sciences and financial services, Saba (Nasdaq: SABA), the leading provider of Human Capital Development and Management (HCDM) solutions, today announced its solid position as the vendor of choice in the public sector. Public sector customers that are already using Saba solutions to rapidly increase productivity, while reducing costs include: Criminal Investigators Training Program, United States Department of Defense - Defense Modeling and Simulation Office, Federal Bureau of Prisons, Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), U.S. Army, Veterans Benefit Administration, Competence Network of Norwegian Business and Industry, Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, and Scottish University for Industry. Saba has a strong lead and domain expertise in this vertical market as demonstrated by the introduction of the Saba3 Release4 Government Pack, which complies with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.

The demand for Saba solutions in the public sector is fueled by the challenges that public sector organizations are facing, including increasing worker productivity, managing succession planning, and complying with federal regulations. The ability to cost-effectively manage and deliver knowledge and skills to personnel is critical to virtually every agency`s ability to execute its mission. Saba solutions help public sector agencies take advantage of the Internet -- anytime, anywhere -- to increase productivity and strengthen their ability to deliver valuable services to their constituents: employees and taxpayers. For example, the Saba3 Release4 Government Pack complies with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and ensures that all federal agencies meet requirements to only use electronic and information technology that is accessible to people with disabilities.

According to Lt. Gary Hoffman, Director of Training, Charlotte County Sheriff`s Office, Co-developer of CEdAC and FLETC Distance Learning Field Supervisor: "There has been a strong push for more training of rural law enforcement officers for quite some time. The events of September 11 have brought the issue even more to the forefront. The Saba solution allowed us to reach more trainees with the same budget and gave them the flexibility to choose which courses they wanted to take and from where they would take them. This really helped get people involved and excited."

Roy Olan, Human Resources Project Director for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, stated: "Across the board in all categories, Saba Learning represents the best value for the Bureau as we meet the challenge of serving our increasing number of employees, institutions, and inmates. With the market-proven Saba solution as the foundation for our distance learning initiative, we expect to reduce training costs and travel, help our employees grow and improve performance, and enhance our ability to protect public safety."

Florida Law Enforcement Agencies Report Significant ROI With Saba-Powered E-Learning Solution

E-Learning Program Significantly Increases Law Enforcement Officer`s Access To Online Courses
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Jan 30, 2002 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ Saba (Nasdaq: SABA), the leading provider of Human Capital Development and Management (HCDM) solutions, today announced the successful completion of an initial twelve-month e-learning program with the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC). The successful program, powered by Saba Learning, ASP Edition, was designed to increase e-learning access for law enforcement officers in Florida`s Charlotte and Levy Counties.

FLETC released a final report on the program in October 2001, which quantifies Web-based Training (WBT) in terms of quality, quantity, and added value for the program, by tracking the experiences of almost 460 law enforcement officers using over 800 online courses. The report findings illustrated dramatic cost savings and increases in participation compared to other training methods:

Hundreds of thousands of dollars saved on travel expenses
A 226 percent increase in the number of people trained in Charlotte County
A 144 percent increase in the number of people trained in Levy County
While 73 percent of the participants had never taken a course over the Internet before, after completing the pilot program all of them felt that Web-based training should be available to other law enforcement professionals around the country. Ninety-nine percent of the participants said that they would recommend this method of training to others.

"There has been a strong push for more training of rural law enforcement officers for quite some time. The events of September 11 have brought the issue even more to the forefront," said Lt. Gary Hoffman, Director of Training, Charlotte County Sheriff`s Office, Co-developer of CEdAC and FLETC Distance Learning Field Supervisor. "This program powered by Saba Learning, ASP Edition allowed us to reach more trainees with the same budget and gave them the flexibility to choose which courses they wanted to take and from where they would take them. This really helped get people involved and excited."

"FLETC is committed to providing its member agencies with learning solutions designed to cost-effectively improve the productivity and performance of law enforcement personnel," said Saba Founder and CEO, Bobby Yazdani. "We`re pleased to help FLETC meet the continuing learning needs of law enforcement officers across the country."

By building a distributed learning architecture, the FLETC program has laid the initial groundwork for providing greater consistency and standardization of law enforcement training nationwide. Based on the success of the Florida program, similar programs are being initiated with other jurisdictions.
