Priceline strikes first major online ad deal with AOL
NEW YORK, Dec 17 (Reuters) - Priceline.com Inc. (NasdaqNM:PCLN - news), which sells name-your-own price air fares and
hotel reservations online, said Monday it struck its first major online marketing deal with AOL Time Warner Inc. (NYSE:AOL -
news) at a time many other companies have shied away from advertising on the Web.
The Norwalk, Connecticut-based company said its travel products will be available across several AOL brands including Netscape and MapQuest and the world`s
largest Internet services provider will provide its users easy access to Priceline.com`s services.
This deal marks Priceline`s first major foray into online advertising, to complement its radio and television ad campaigns. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
It comes at a time that online advertising has been facing a sharp decline in overall ad spending and still stinging from the dot-com bust. Many companies have been
re-evaluating where they should spend their ad dollars in the wake of the economic slowdown.
``Going online has become an essential part of making travel plans, and we`re pleased to enter into this new alliance with Priceline.com, one of the most-recognized
Web brands,`` said Jonathan Sacks, president of interactive services at AOL in a statement.
