Denke da bloss an Condomi.

      @Stockrush:

Was soll’s.

Private Media verschiebt Gang an Neuen Markt

Purple by Day, blue by night

      By Neale Prior

THE annual report of AdultShop.com, like its flagship Web site adultshop.com.au, is a stylish piece of design which uses hues of erotic purple and reflects the suave image of its chief executive, Malcolm Day.
But the 2000-01 report`s photographs of couples in pre-coital rapture, snapshots of the award winning e-commerce site and euphemistic references to adult entertainment form a see-through veil.
Behind the veil is a burgeoning Internet pornography business which goes under the banner of Today`s Success Pty Ltd, a company acquired by AdultShop.com in late June from Queensland entrepreneurs Dean Shannon and Steve Jones.
It links AdultShop.com`s changing fortunes to the booming world of online pornography through a British Virgin Islands company and through a web of Internet services in Perth, Hong Kong, Amsterdam and California.
The revenue flowing to AdultShop.com through its Today`s Success subsidiary has provided a valuable cash boost to AdultShop.com as it builds an international business, retailing sex accessories, lingerie and so-called erotica material over the Internet.
AdultShop.com has used clever, witty marketing and stylish branding, based on its stylised @-symbol and fashionable purple, as well as a snappy slogan, "delivering pleasure globally", in developing adult e-tailing.
The building of Adultshop.com over the past two years has coincided with Mr Day becoming a national celebrity.
He has had his picture on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine and been spotted with glamorous girlfriends, former Penthouse Pet of the Year Bree Maddox and television presenter Fiona Argyle.
The ride has been less pleasurable for AdultShop.com shareholders who have seen the company`s share price fall from a peak of $2.15 at the height of the dot.com boom to as low as 11¢ in October last year.
AdultShop.com looked in danger of becoming just another dot.com cash burner until its announcement last April of the Today`s Success Pty Ltd acquisition, with forecasts of operating revenue of $33.1 million and $7.3 million in pre-tax earnings this financial year.
Unusual among Internet ventures, the financial reality of Today`s Success appears to have matched the talk.
AdultShop.com`s December quarter cash report shows the entire group enjoyed $22.7 million in customer receipts, after hauling in $14.1 million in the October quarter - the first full three months with Today`s Success on board. This compares with just $26.7 million in receipts for the entire 2000-01 financial year, when the company`s operations bled $11 million and overall cash slid by $18.2 million.
Net operating cash flow for the December 2001 quarter was a positive $4.9 million, and $6.6 million for the half.
AdultShop.com`s corporate Internet investors site and its annual report names only one Internet sex site, www.sexnow.com, but the investor site says it has another 70 adult entertainment sites.
Sexnow.com provides a link into the genitalia and fluids, in-your-face world of cyber-porn, but the 2000-01 annual report doesn`t reveal the hard core nature of a daisy chain of pornography sites.
The report shows the front page of sexnow.com, complete with postage stamp-sized snapshots of pages from sexnow.com showing men and women in varying levels of nakedness and sexual engagement.
Below that are four more snapshots of Web pages labelled Newlivesex and Redhotsexaction. These sites respectively have pictures of naked or semi-naked women in various poses, with lots of them poking bare bottoms at the camera. That, in fact, is the sanitised version of a reality that is only a click or two away on the Internet.
Type in sexnow.com on an Internet browser and Internet sites pop up that appear identical to the Newlivesex and Redhotsexaction Internet page snapshots shown in the annual report - except for one detail.
The difference on the real Net pages is they are labelled Newteensex and Redhotanal, and have Web addresses that reflect the name.
Newteensex includes young women in tartan skirts and white T-shirts, including one with a ponytail and a backpack, checking out what is hidden in each other`s underwear.
Also, popping up on the screen is a site called hotxxxanal.com and a long list of other Internet pornography sites that can be accessed with a click of a mouse.
This list of links is provided by an Internet pornography site Pageseeker.com, which is understood to be linked to Mr Shannon.
One of the Internet sites highlighted on Pageseeker was headlined School Sux.
This features a young blonde eating a big red lollipop and another in a varsity top playing a peek-a-boo with her cotton panties.
"100 per cent live teen . . . tons of teen & barely 18 . . updated daily," promises the School Sux site to anyone who wants to sign up and, after a three-day free trial, pay the going rate of $US49.95 a month ($98).
This Web site and others linked to AdultShop.com use the teen lure but disclose that the porn stars are 18 or more as the page is scrolled down.
Mr Day disputed that the content on the various adult entertainment sites linked to his company was hard core pornography, saying the term depended on who was viewing it.
When it was suggested the sites themselves used the term hard core pornography, Mr Day said: "We don`t believe it is hard core pornography. I don`t believe we own sites that say hard core pornography." He may well be right.
After the interview, The West Australian checked sexnow.com.
THE offerings it touted for site members included hard core mega gallery, mega hard core classic, porn-o-rama, network porn and porn stars, not to mention grandmas, cherry poppers and forbidden fetish.
The term "hard core pornography" did not appear on sexnow.com.
Mr Day refuses to say what "adult entertainment" sites AdultShop.com owns apart from sexnow.com.
Investigations by The West Australian of Internet records show AdultShop.com is linked through various Net connections and possibly Web site ownership to a British Virgin Islands company that sits behind the major Web pornography link provider, tshosting.com.
The Newteensex and Redhotanal sites alluded to in the AdultShop.com annual report, as well as an Internet pornography site formerly registered as Today`s Success, are now registered with the British Virgin Islands company Webdata Associates.
AdultShop.com`s annual report disclosed it had set up a British Virgin Islands subsidiary called Web Capital Management.
The Internet domain names, webcapitalmanagementlimited.com and webdataassociateslimited.com, were registered on May 3 last year, a week after AdultShop.com announced the deal to acquire Today`s Success.
Webdata Associates is variously shown as having addresses in Amsterdam, British Virgin Islands and Hong Kong on Internet registration records for the domain names it is registered as owning.
Webdata`s Hong Kong address is the same as the address for the administration of the webcapitalmanagementlimited.com Internet address and the address for a company named Web Capital Management, the registered owner of the domain.
The webcapitalmanagementlimited.com Internet site registration shows the St Georges Terrace-based listed Internet service provide iiNet as the technical contact for the site.
Until late December, various sites registered to Webdata Associates were shown on Net registration records as having its technical contact at iiNet but have since been changed to Webdata`s address in Amsterdam.
Other site registrations still list iiNet as the technical contact, including redhotanal.com, sexnow.com and newteensex.com.
Webdata`s servers, labelled tshostings.com, do Web link work for numerous blue sites registered to Webdata and other companies.
The School Sux site is registered in the name of Eurodez, which is listed as being available through the tshosting.com e-mail service. There is no suggestion Eurodez has an equity link to AdultShop.com.
Mr Day refused to discuss the nature of AdultShop.com`s relationship with Webdata and the various sites registered in the mystery company`s name, saying it was subject to confidentiality agreements.
He said it was in the best interest of shareholders to keep it confidential.
"We have got a formula which we have developed behind closed doors and we want to keep that intellectual property," he said.
"We are bound to keep it confidential."
      Recruits Net more traffic
ADULTSHOP.COM chief executive Malcolm Day said the acquisition of Today`s Success had added Internet savvy to the company`s existing commercial skills.
Mr Day said the retention of the Today`s Success founders, Steve Jones and Dean Shannon, had brought their considerable expertise in maximising the Internet traffic flow and return from AdultShop.com retailing sites.
As a result, AdultShop.com had been able to improve various processes, such as getting Internet users to its sites, deciding how much should be paid to other parties for directing traffic to it, maximising the return from customers and getting a good return providing traffic to other players.
Mr Day said AdultShop.com was building a vertically integrated sex business that would have everything from over-the-counter sales through its traditional Barbarellas operation to video-on-demand via emerging broadband Internet technology.
"Prior to Today`s Success, we possibly did not fully understand the importance of traffic," he said.
"You can have the best Web site in the world, but if you don`t have traffic you don`t make money."
The company had made errors in the early stages of launching its Internet adult products sites, using external consultants. But it had since brought much of the work in-house, cut the marketing budgets and had in-house staff who were maximising the value from the spending.
AdultShop.com had also applied the strict monitoring of advertising performance - including publication-by-publication comparisons - that had been developed over 30 years in the Barbarellas group.
Despite the optimism, Mr Day refuses to give a divisional breakdown of the financial performance of the listed group`s operations, but said all parts were cash-flow positive.
He said Today`s Success was performing at least as well as was forecast when AdultShop.com announced the acquisition in April last year. The deal was not completed until the end of the 2000-01 financial year.
After announcing the deal, AdultShop.com released financial projections provided by the Today`s Success vendors. They forecast revenue of $6.8 million in the June 2001 quarter and $33.1 million in the year to June 30, 2002.
Based on those figures and Mr Day`s comments, a good half of AdultShop.com`s revenue could be coming from its hardcore operations.
AdultShop.com chairman Reg Gillard also declined to give a breakdown, but said Today`s Success was a good bottom-line contributor.
Mr Gillard said he did not know the names of the Internet sites owned by its adult entertainment division. "I have no idea," he said.
