@weehaa

Crude prices tops $20
Crude futures climbed back above $20 a barrel Friday, even as the threat of a strike by U.S. oil workers eased and analysts downplayed the effects of an explosion at a Kuwaiti oil field gathering center on petroleum supplies.
A strike by oil workers from the Paper, Allied-Industrial, Chemical and Energy Workers International union was expected as early as this morning, but the union rescinded the contract deadline pending the latest offer form major oil refiners, according to Victor Yu of MV Energy.
The strike would have covered seven refineries in Texas and California and involve as many as 30,000 workers.
March crude rose 59 cents to trade at $20.07 a barrel.
"Refined products prices are still being driven up by strike talk, but if a strike indeed has an impact, it would be the first time in 25 years that we have actually seen the `wolf at the door` where a job action has impacted production," said Tom Kloza, publisher of the Oil Price Information Service.
"The strike should actually depress crude demand, which of course is about 725,000 barrel a day behind last year because of lower runs," he said. See Futures Movers.
Meanwhile, traders continue to monitor developments related to the overnight explosion at a 280,000 barrel-per-day crude oil gathering center in Kuwait. Kuwaiti oil minister Adel al-Subaih said it could take "days" for production to recover, according to IFR Pegasus Tim Evans.
