Die erste (vernichtende) Kritik von Welcome to Collinwood ist da (http://www.georgeclooney.org). Hoffen wir, dass zumindest das Einspielergebnis stimmt...

      "Welcome to Collinwood"
A Review by `Sean` (Negative, Minor Spoilers)
      Dark Horizons 10/27/01

Should have seen it coming -- the screening was in Pasadena. Screenings are never in Pasadena... On a Thursday... In a multiplex. Unless... Yes. Read on, my friend.

Ugh... Just a horrible derivative wannabe Snatch (and we know how Snatch is, in turn, a derivative wannabe of other films so how horrible is that?). I don`t think it`s really constructive to delve into specifics about this film but I guess I`ll do it anyway. The dialogue is that typical movie of a movie dialogue, i.e., it`s obvious that the filmmakers watched a lot of gangster movies, the Godfather, Goodfellas, heist movies, what-have-you, and they just derived dialogue from those. It`s not their own experience, it`s them reminiscing of the great films (or maybe even bad films) they saw and decided to "give it a go" and this was the result. "He just got out of the penn... ", "There`s this big job"... "I can`t do the job because I just fell in love with your blind sister, Eddie". Whatever. I can`t remember the really bad ones. Sorry... You`ll just have to take my word for it.

To top it off, every actor is wasted and it`s actually kind of sad to see some of these `stars` lend their talents to a film written and directed by some brothers who`ve never written a big movie before. Luis Guzman`s only line it seems is "Your mother`s a whore!" which he keeps repeating over and over after constantly getting screwed by various other `characters` in the film. Yes, it`s funny the first time, but not the third, not the tenth, etc. William H. Macy is stunningly bad in this film. He has sideburns (which is funny for a couple seconds) but hangs out in the background for most of the movie, holding a baby, spewing off one-liners that always fall flat, trying to bookend a scene. He has his big moment at the finale but it`s basically him just stretching his face, trying to feed off lines which carry no emotion.

George Clooney however, adds a bit of comic relief (in a *comedy*, though) -- he`s riddled with tattoos, dressed in a black wife-beater, and he`s in a wheel chair. He teaches people how to break into safes but his big weapon of choice (and the tool he urges all his students to use in the field) is a circular hand-drill which he says can get through a basic safe in under *three* hours.

The lead is very funny however (Sam Rockwell -- genius -- he`ll be gracing the screens in a much, much better film very soon -- Heist). Isaiah Washington on the other hand fills every stereotype black comedians always make fun of. He`s the `black guy` in the film and all he gets to say are the stereotypical black guy lines and it`s so sad.

The nudity in this movie (just in case that`s some kind of sticking point with you and parting with your $9) is of the old guy`s tighty-whities falling off and him running for cover variety. If you find this amusing, this film is for you. All the studio execs a the screening were laughing their asses off throughout the film, which bodes the question -- is this what it`s really come to? I remember reading that many studio heads in LA really do believe the crap they`re making is truly excellent stuff. I suppose the way they keep their jobs is that they have the lowest-common- denominator brain to match -- if they think it`s funny, general core audiences must as well. Here`s a perfect example. This movie should have never been made.

      H5B5 klarer Verkauf
