habe mir gerade kazaa-lite heruntergeladen. wer hat erfahrung mit dem file-sharing tool? soll ja spy-ware frei sein. wäre dankbar über resonanz. habe bereits adaware d`rüber laufen lassen. zeigt mir eine neue komponente an.

Doppelagent KaZaA

Der P2P-Tauschsoftware KaZaA liegen Funktionen für ein alternatives,
kommerzielles Netzwerk bei -- laut Wall Street Journal allen Versionen, die seit
Februar 2002 verfügbar waren. Dieses Zusatz-Netzwerk soll, ohne dass die Nutzer
vorher informiert wurden, für den Verkauf von Musik mit Digital Rights
Management, für die Nutzung durch Anzeigenkunden sowie zum verteilten Rechnen
und Speichern genutzt werden.

Was ursprünglich wie ein schlechter Aprilscherz klang, bestätigen inzwischen
offizielle Dokumente, die das Unternehmen Brilliant Digital Entertainment am 1.
April bei der US-Finanz- und Börsenaufsicht SEC einreichte und die am heutigen
Donnerstag von der Behörde veröffentlicht wurden. Die Verantwortlichen hinter
den Zusatzfunktionen sitzen bei Altnet (früher Brilliant P2P), einer Tochter von
Brilliant Digital Entertainment. Die australische Firma arbeitet mit dem
derzeitigen Hersteller der KaZaA-Software zusammen, um das neue Netz an die
Millionen bestehender Nutzer zu bringen. Wie US-Medien berichten, will Altnet
das alternative P2P-Netz innerhalb der nächsten sechs Wochen aktivieren. Die
Nutzer hätten dann die Wahl zwischen kostenloser Musik und einer DRM-
eingeschränkten Variante, die extra kostet.

Durch eine Qualitätskontrolle hoffen die Entwickler der Zusatzsoftware, den
Suchern tatsächlich ein paar Dollars zu entlocken, denn immerhin stamme die
Gratisunterhaltung der Tauschbörsen von "völlig Fremden", die oft Schlechtes
liefern. Die Musikindustrie sollte sich darüber freuen; laut einem Sprecher der
RIAA versucht der Musikindustrie-Verband allerdings noch, die ganze Sache zu
verstehen.

Zusätzlich erlaubt der KaZaA-Nutzer durch den Klick auf den Zustimmungs-Button
der Nutzungsbestimmungen die Heranziehung seiner Rechnerressourcen wie CPU-
Leistung, Speicher oder Netzbandbreite zu Zwecken, die Altnet bestimmt. Der
entsprechende Passus findet sich im letzten Viertel des umfangreichen
Bedingungstexts. Der User soll auch Nein sagen können -- allerdings erst,
nachdem Altnet sein Programmpaket aktiviert hat.

Nutzungsbestimmungen hin oder her, Anwender können das möglicherweise
unerwünschte Add-On mit ein wenig Fisselarbeit durchaus loswerden: Zuerst muss
man in der Systemsteuerung den "b3D Projector" von Brilliant Digital
Entertainment deinstallieren. Der Installer hat im Windows-Verzeichnis (meist
C:Windows bzw. C:Winnt) einen Ordner namens BDE angelegt, der jetzt gelöscht
werden kann. Auch die Setup-Dateien im temporären Verzeichnis (meist
C:WindowsTEMP) unter "Brilliant" braucht man jetzt nicht mehr. Die dortigen
Dateien sind aber längst auch in das Systemverzeichnis gewandert.
Glücklicherweise beginnen sie alle mit "bde": bdedownloader.dll, bdedata2.dll,
bdefdi.dll, bdeinsta2.dll, bdeinstall.exe, bdesecureinstall.cab,
bdesecureinstall.exe, bdeverify.exe, bdeverify.dll. Auch diese neun Dateien kann
man jetzt vernichten. Natürlich kann es auch andere Anwendungen geben, die
Bibliotheken oder Verzeichnisse mit einem bde darin verwenden (unter anderem
gilt dies für die Borland Database Engine), daher ist wie immer ein wenig
Vorsicht angebracht. Die Pfade zum Windows- und Temp-Verzeichnis stehen in den
Umgebungsvariablen Windir und Temp beziehungsweise Tmp. Das Systemverzeichnis
liegt fast immer unterhalb des Windir.

Der Tauschdienst wanderte unlängst in die Hände des australischen Unternehmens
Sharman Networks, das im Deal mit BDE "keinen Nachteil" für seine Nutzer sieht.
Brilliant stellte ursprünglich nur einen Player für Werbung her und will sich
nun das Geschäftsfeld Netzwerke erschließen. KaZaA liegen immer wieder einmal
fragwürdige Komponenten bei. Wer ausschließlich tauschen will, kann einen Blick
auf "KaZaA Lite" werfen. (cgl/c`t)






KaZaA "Lite" -- Tauschen ohne Werbung

Tauschen -- ja bitte, sagen sich viele User. Doch bei der Installation von
Tauschbörsen-Software wie Kazaa und Konsorten werden neben dem eigentlichen
Tauschprogramm oftmals unliebsame Progrämmchen aus der Kategorie Ad- und Spyware
mitinstalliert. Wer einmal Bekanntschaft mit dem violetten Gorilla "Bonzi Buddy"
gemacht hat, kann ein Lied davon singen.

Eine abgewandelte Form des aktuellen Kazaa-Clients verspricht nun Abhilfe:
"Kazaa Lite" ist Kazaa ohne Werbung. Das ein Megabyte große Programm kommt ganz
ohne die lästigen Zusatzprogrämmchen aus. Darüber hinaus ist in der Lite-Version
das Bitraten-Limit von 128 kBit/s aufgehoben. Zur Installation müssen zuerst
alle anderen Versionen von Kazaa, Morpheus oder Grokster deinstalliert werden.

- Uninstall any installed copies of KaZaA (Lite), Morpheus, Grokster and
RefoSearch.

- Run Ad-aware to remove all spyware and adware that might be present on your
system.

Take a look at the Supertrick page.

With the supertrick you can block the KaZaA website from loading into the main
screen of KaZaA (Lite). This is recommended for two reasons:

- It will prevent BDE Viewer/B3D Projector from installing itself! - It will
speed up KaZaA Lite quite a bit

Furthermore, the supertrick is a good way to block ads and other crappy
websites.

NOTE: It is recommended that you apply the supertrick before the first use of
KaZaA (Lite).


!!!! IMPORTANT !!!! A dummy DLL file called "cd_clint.dll" is placed in the
installation directory. This is a required file for KaZaA. Normally this file is
a part of a spyware program called Cydoor. This dummy file however is completely
harmless. So do not delete it when it is detected by a program such as Ad-aware.

Where is this trick for?

There is a way to disable access to certain websites by editing the HOSTS file.
Using this trick you can not only block ads and cookies, but also websites that
might compromize your privacy and security. This trick also speeds up the
loading time of websites.

How exactly does the HOSTS file work?

The short answer is that the HOSTS file is like an address book. When you type
an address like www.yahoo.com into your browser, the HOSTS file is consulted to
see if you have the IP address, or "telephone number," for that site. If you do,
then your computer will "call it" and the site will open. If not, your computer
will ask your ISP`s (internet service provider) computer for the phone number
before it can "call" that site. Most of the time, you do not have addresses in
your "address book," because you have not put any there. Therefore, most of the
time your computer asks for the IP address from your ISP to find sites.

If you put ad server names into your HOSTS file with your own computer`s IP
address (Localhost: 127.0.0.1), your computer will never be able to contact the
ad server. It will try to, but it will be simply calling itself and get sort of
a "busy signal". Your computer will then give up calling the ad server and no
ads will be loaded, nor will any tracking take place. Your choices for blocking
sites are not just limited to blocking ad servers. You may block sites that
serve advertisements, sites that serve objectionable content, or any other site
that you choose to block. Also would it be possible to redirect a website to
another website by using that website`s IP adress in stead of your computers IP
adress.

NOTE: The HOSTS file does NOT have an extention (extensions are the .exe, .txt,
.doc, etc. endings to filenames). HOSTS.sam is just an sample file, not the file
you need to edit.

If you do not have a HOSTS file yet, download one HERE. Or you can rename the
file HOSTS.sam (a sample file) to HOSTS.

How to edit it:

CAUTION: Please make an backup copy before trying to edit the HOSTS file.

< Windows users > You can open the HOSTS file by right-clicking on it and
selecting "open with". Then select Notepad.

Add the following lines to the end of the HOSTS file: 127.0.0.1
www.brilliantdigital.com 127.0.0.1 desktop.kazaa.com 127.0.0.1 shop.kazaa.com
127.0.0.1 www.bonzi.com

< Linux users > 1. Open up a command window and make sure you`re logged in as
root. 2. Type cd /etc to go to the right directory. 3. Type cp hosts hostsbackup
to make a backup. You can restore the backup later on if something would have
gone wrong. To do that, you need to type mv hostsbackup hosts 4. Open up host
with your favourite text editor, by typing editorname hosts (replace
"editorname" by the name of your editor) 5. Copy the list of server names, along
with 127.0.0.1 (localhost) into the hosts file. Don`t change any of the other
information you find there, just paste the list at the end of the file and save
it. Quit the text editor.

Add the following lines to the end of the HOSTS file: 127.0.0.1
www.brilliantdigital.com 127.0.0.1 desktop.kazaa.com 127.0.0.1 shop.kazaa.com
127.0.0.1 www.bonzi.com

You can use this same method to block other websites. For a huge list of ad
servers and other annoying websites, view the HOSTS List page.

Tip Instead of 127.0.0.1 you can also use 0.0.0.0 as the IP to redirect to. This
speeds up your surfing a bit, but it does not work on all systems.


HOSTS List

Note: A big HOSTS file on a Windows 2000 system may cause browsing the internet
to become slow. If you have such a problem, then reduce the number of servers in
your HOSTS file. I am running Windows 2000, and I have no problems at all with
the list below.

Tip: If you do not want to see an error page every time an ad is blocked, try
the eDexter program. It will replace the error message with an image. An
alternative is to redirect to a webserver that does not use an background image.
For example replace "127.0.0.1" by "207.46.197.100". Downside to this is that it
causes a little network traffic.

@ henrys: du musst weiter lesen. es geht hier um kazaa-lite. also die version ohne spyware. hab`s gestern installiert. läuft genauso gut wie morpheus vor der umstellung. hab` nach der installation adaware drüber laufen lassen u. genau die dll-datei gefunden, die vom programm benötigt wird. der restliche sch... ist garantiert nicht auf dem rechner.
