Check Point cofounder Kramer launched another data-security firm

Check Point Software Technologies (Nasdaq:CHKP) cofounder Shlomo Kramer has established a new data security company, WebCohort Technologies. The company was established in Ramat Gan early this year, and employs 11 people.

WebCohort has completed its seed round, roping in $5 million from the American venture capital fund Accel Partners.

Kramer declined to discuss the solutions the company is developing, or its valuation for financing purposes.

Kramer fulfilled several vice-presidential jobs at Check Point from 1993 to 1996, and also served as a director from its inception in July 1993. He is also involved with two other Israeli network security providers: ForeScout Technologies and Business Layers.

Accel partner Theresia Gouw Ranzetta will be joining WebCohort`s board of directors. She already serves on ForeScout`s board.

Check Point Sftwr (CHKP) 17.21 +0.38: Before open, Wedbush Morgan initiated coverage with a Hold, recommending that investors stay on the sidelines but continue to monitor the company`s progress, as well as the security industry for early indicators of an entry point into CHKP shares. Firm notes that, with 57% of the software firewall/VPN market in 2000, Check Point has established itself in a dominant position in the firewall/VPN market. With over 80% of enterprises already having deployed at least one firewall (according to Infonetics), CHKP`s core market appears to be headed toward saturation, which might make it more difficult for it to continue delivering meaningful revenue growth... Despite these comments, CHKP is currently trading up 2.3%.
