Multex.com schließt Joint Venture mit Reuters und expandiert nach Europa.

Reuters and Multex plan European Internet portal

LONDON, Feb 8 (Reuters) - News and information company
Reuters Group Plc and financial research distributor
Multex.com Inc said on Tuesday they planned to build a
financial Internet portal for European private investors.
The 50-50 joint venture will be called Multex Investor
Europe and will largely replicate a similar U.S. portal called
www.multexinvestor.com that was launched in November 1998 and
now has over 1.2 million members.
"It will combine Multex.com`s global research database and
Reuters information and news with both companies` leading
      Internet technologies," they said.
It would offer a range of portfolio management and analysis
tools as well as research from leading stockbrokers and
investment banks. Multexinvestor.com in the United States offers
500,000 research reports on more than 15,000 companies from over
      300 brokerages worldwide.
"We aim to repeat rapidly the very successful U.S. formula
of multexinvestor.com by drawing to Multex Investor Europe a
very substantial number of European private investors," Reuters
director David Ure said in a statement.
"This joint venture enables Multex.com and Reuters to
combine their respective strengths in buliding a virtual
financial shopping mall connecting personal investors and
financial service providers," Multex.com Chairman and Chief
Executive Isaak Karaev said in the statement.
Multex.com said in December it planned to launch a European
version of its U.S. retail investor portal early in 2000.
Retail share trading on the Internet has jumped 500 percent
in Britain in the second half of 1999 as Schwab and
E*Trade have launched services, supporting a surge in
      technology and telecoms stocks.
Multex and Reuters said they estimated nearly nine million
European investors would manage their portfolios online.
Multex`s U.S. site for retail investors offers free research
reports, pay-per-view reports and reports from its sponsor
brokers, including Merrill Lynch , Salomon Smith Barney
and Morgan Stanley Dean Witter .
Multex.com, which has partnerships with Yahoo! Inc ,
America Online Inc , joined the top ten financial
services sites by revenue in November 1999, being the 10th
biggest overall and the fourth largest site after the e-brokers
      like Charles Schwab Corp .
Multex Investor Europe would have one director from
Multex.com and two from Reuters and be based in London.
Multex.com chairman Isaak Kareev would be chairman of the new
venture, which would be operational later this year.
