Here are the highlights from the Featured Expert column:
We`ve always loved Sonic Solutions (Nasdaq: SNIC). According to the firm Adams, Harkness and Hill, they initiated coverage on SNIC with a Buy Rating based on a discount to the company`s 35% growth rate. In the research report, they go on to say that Sonic is in the booming market of DVD-RW drives, and expects the market to grow from 500,000 in 2001 to more than 50 million by 2005. Other good news according to Frankel includes that the company is profitable and should earn $0.25 in 2003 followed by $0.46 in 2004.
Growth Report likes the j2 Global Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: JCOM) story and the stock`s performance. Last week, the company reported that it has been added to the Russell 3000 and Russell 2000 financial indices, effective July 1, 2002. The company will be announcing Q2 2002 earnings next Monday, July 22. With shares of j2 trading at $15.99, Growth Report is up some 47% since initiating coverage on April 29, 2002 at $10.85.
On July 1, we mentioned InfoSpace, Inc. (Nasdaq: INSP) as a stock to watch. Shares closed at $0.52 on July 1 after being booted from the Russell 2000 index but it`s since seen shares fall as low as $0.37 The company also faces possible de-listing from NASDAQ due to a bid price deficiency. In order to again become compliant with the exchange`s requirements, InfoSpace needs to maintain a stock price above $1 for 10 consecutive trading sessions.
SuperGen, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUPG) has staged quite the impressive comeback from mid-May, with shares rebounding from a 52-week low of $4.05 to today`s $6.40. Not a bad little run - think we`ll dub SuperGen the "Comeback Kid."
We decided to do some summer housecleaning by kicking out some of the under-performers from the Growth Report Portfolio to make room for some new opportunities come fall.
Ceco Environmental Corporation (Nasdaq: CECE): We had a nice ride from $3.25 to $4.60 (41% return), but with the stock in a steady decline since the start of May, we`ve decided we`re out and will close the position.
SonicBlue, Inc. (Nasdaq: SBLU): Again, a great performer for the Growth Report Portfolio in the past. Now trading under a buck and facing NASDAQ de- listing, we`re going to let this one go.
Angiotech Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: ANPI): We`ll close our position on this one - the stock has fallen from $47 to $35. What can we say - biotech is not the most popular sector of the market these days.

Rechnung traegt. Zu den Produkten des Unternehmen gehoeren bei-
spielsweise integrierte Digital Audio Player, Go-Video Dual-Deck
ternehmen bei tragbaren MP3-Playern in Japan beispielsweise be-
reits Marktfuehrer.
renommierten Consumer-Electronics-Herstellers Victor Company of
Japan (JVC) gewinnen.

3. Quartal:
Financial News
SONICblue Reports Year over Year Revenue Growth of More Than 43%
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Nov. 6, 2002 - SONICblue™ Incorporated (Nasdaq: SBLU) reported third quarter results, achieving net revenue for the quarter of $78.4 million, representing a year-over-year increase of more than 43 percent. SONICblue reported a net loss for the third quarter of $32.4 million or ($0.33) per share. This compares with a net loss of $55.3 million or ($0.62) per share for the third quarter of 2001. The Company`s pro forma third quarter operating loss was $13.7 million, or ($0.14) per share, meeting our revised guidance. This compares with a third quarter 2001 pro forma operating loss of $17.7 million, or ($0.20) per share. Pro forma operating results reflect the reported third quarter loss from operations of $25.2 million in 2002 and $34.5 million in 2001, less in-process research and development, restructuring expense and impairment charges, and amortization of goodwill, intangibles and non-cash deferred compensation. "We have made decisions this quarter that were critical in our effort to drive towards improving operating results," said Gregory Ballard, chief executive officer, SONICblue. "We expect the effect of these decisions to create a positive trend beginning in the fourth quarter and continuing beyond." "Our Go-Video product line continued to be the primary driver of revenue growth in the third quarter with the combination DVD / VCR being our highest volume product," said Marcus Smith, chief financial officer, SONICblue. "We continue to experience downward pricing pressures on our DVD / VCR combination product and single deck DVD player. The decreased average selling prices combined with higher sales volumes of the combination product and single deck DVD player significantly impacted gross margin." The Company ended the quarter with approximately 120 million shares of UMC, which have a market value of approximately $81.8 million, based on the closing price of UMC shares on the Taiwan Stock Exchange and the prevailing U.S. dollar to New Taiwan Dollar exchange rate on Sept. 30, 2002.
Throughout the third quarter SONICblue continued to expand its product base, launching several new digital audio products including the Rio 900, Rio S10 and Rio S30. In addition, the Company announced the compatibility of Rio players with the latest version of pressplay and Windows Media Audio. The Company licensed its patented Dual-Deck™ technology to JVC to be incorporated into certain JVC-branded combination products including a DVD/VCR. The pricing structure for ReplayTV was expanded to offer both monthly and lifetime subscription options, and the Company announced it was working with Intel to develop a portable Replay device.

Consumer Electronics Association Recognizes SONICblue Products with Prestigious 2003 Innovation Awards
Rio S35S Portable Digital Audio Player and Go-Video Networked DVD Player D2730 Honored for Innovative Design and Engineering
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — December 16, 2002 — SONICblue™ Incorporated (Nasdaq: SBLU) received 2003 Innovations Awards for Design and Engineering for its Rio® S35S portable digital audio player and the soon to be released Go-Video® Networked DVD player D2730. Sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), and presented in conjunction with 2003 International CES, the Innovations Awards program recognizes products that exhibit excellence in design and engineering.
“At SONICblue we strive to create products that allow users to enjoy, manage and collect digital audio and video entertainment in ways that are easier and more convenient than ever before,” said Greg Ballard, CEO, SONICblue. “These two products exemplify that pursuit, which is why we believe they were selected for this honor. This type of recognition from the CE industry validates our vision for the future of connecting people to entertainment and we couldn’t be more pleased.”
A departure from the typical portable MP3 player, the organic design of the Rio S35S with its lively color scheme, small size, and ergonomic shape, is built for today’s athlete and tech savvy youth. Made to withstand the rigors of extreme activity, the Rio S35S’ lightweight design allows users to easily strap the player to their arm on the go and its sturdy construction and rubberized shell makes the player strong and durable. To create the product, SONICblue developed new electronic architecture called S-Tech that reduced the player size by more than 25 percent, while increasing the battery life and adding more features than previous generation products.
Enhancing the ease of use of the Rio S35S is Rio’s new Music Manager software. This innovative and user friendly software delivers a simple and easy to navigate interface, making transferring MP3 and WMA files from a PC to a Rio digital music player quicker and easier than ever. The S35S features 128MB of built in memory giving users up to four hours of continuous music listening and is upgradeable to 256 MB. The S35S also contains a long list of features, including a large back lit screen, clock, stopwatch, and integrated FM tuner. As with all Rio digital music products, the firmware on the S35S is upgradeable, to insure continued usability.
The Go-Video Networked DVD Player D2730 will give users the ability to effortlessly watch or listen to the wide variety of entertainment content stored on a PC, including MP3 and WMA audio files, JPEG image files, and both MPEG1 and MPEG2 movie files. Installation is simple. For the estimated 4 million* US homes with an installed wireless network, users simply plug in the power cord and an optional PCMCIA 802.11b Wireless Network Card and the unit is recognized on the network. The device also offers an Ethernet connection for those estimated 9 million* US households with a standard wired network. With this player, which takes up about half the space of a traditional component piece, consumers will be able to enjoy their digital photos, home movies, Internet content and digital music all from the comfort of their living room.
Both CEA and SONICblue will showcase the Rio Sport S35S and Go-Video Networked DVD player D2730 at the International CES show in Las Vegas, January 8-12, 2003. Please contact a SONICblue representative to arrange a demonstration of the Rio Sport S35S or Networked DVD player at the show.

DVD-Player als Link zwischen PC und TV
SonicBlue erregt erneut den Unmut Hollywoods
Santa Clara (pte, 16.
(Ende)
