AltaVista Acquires Transium to Deliver Custom Search Hosting Services Strengthens AltaVista Business Solutions Offering With Custom Hosted Search
Services for Fast-Growing Portals and E-commerce Markets

PALO ALTO, Calif., Feb. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- AltaVista Company, the premier media and commerce network at http://www.altavista.com , and a majority owned operating company of CMGI Inc. Buy.com Selects AltaVista Search Engine to Power E-Commerce Sites
State-of-the-Art Search Software Reduces Response Times, Enhances

PALO ALTO, Calif., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- AltaVista Company, the premier

CMGI Inc. (Nasdaq: CMGI), today announced that Buy.com has licensed
AltaVista`s search engine software to power all nine of the Buy.com online
stores. In an agreement with AltaVista Business Solutions, Buy.com will deploy
AltaVista`s fast and scalable search technology in order to meet its
customers` growing demands for an enhanced shopping experience. Customers will
be able to rapidly search and locate products in Buy.com`s nine online stores.
      Terms were not disclosed.
"We recognized that search technology on the Web has been transformed from
an accessory to a necessity," said Tony McAlister, vice president of
Information Systems at Buy.com. "AltaVista allows us to be in control of our
data and customize the search results, which is important to our customers`
      experience.
Before selecting a search engine, Buy.com toured and evaluated the
performance of the AltaVista search technology through a downloadable version
of the AltaVista Software Developer`s Kit. Performing tests on one of its
stores, BuyBooks.com, Buy.com experienced a marked reduction in search
response times and increased scalability across fewer servers. Buy.com then
selected the AltaVista search engine to power all nine of its online stores.
"We share a common goal with Buy.com -- to create a tailored purchasing
experience so that customers can find exactly what they are looking for

"AltaVista`s solution delivers the speed, scalability and customizability that
Buy.com needs to enhance customer satisfaction."
AltaVista`s powerful search engine allows Buy.com customers to search an
inventory of more than 850,000 products. In addition to AltaVista`s
scalability and reliability, AltaVista`s technology will help Buy.com to
reduce costs by reducing the number of servers necessary to perform searches.
