also das come back, steht noch nicht fest.
Weiterhin happy-trading

Another Award for Atmel`s Security Expertise
ROUSSET, France--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 6, 2002--Atmel® Corporation (Nasdaq:ATML - News), announced today it has received a Common Criteria security certificate EAL4 Augmented AVA-VLA .4 for its AT90SC19264RC secureAVR(TM) RISC microcontroller. This vulnerability assessment (AVA-VLA.4) corresponds to today`s highest proven resistance against any security attack.
The AT90SC19264RC is based on the new SecureAVR RISC architecture. It features an outstanding 16-bit CPU performance, 192 Kbytes of ROM, 64 Kbytes of EEPROM, 6 Kbytes of RAM and a host of security mechanisms including firewalls and two cryptographic co-processors: one for the asymmetric algorithms (RSA, DSA, Elliptic Curves) and one for the DES/TripleDES. More than a single product, the whole architecture has been certified against the most demanding security rules. The AT90SC19264RC is the first of the new AVR high security family that will very soon offer a set of products ranging from 2 Kbytes up to 128 Kbytes of EEPROM. Those products will benefit from this security expertise to address the most secure applications including e-government, electronic finance, e-commerce and m-commerce transactions.
Lucien Brau, Atmel`s Smart Card ICs Division Director said, "We are extremely proud to offer very high performance products providing the best in terms of security. This Common Criteria EAL 4 Augmented certificate is not the first one we have been awarded, however we had to increase our expertise in security to meet the new market standards. Atmel`s investment towards an answer to the growing demands for security from its clients denotes a long-term commitment to the smart card market."
The AT90SC3232CS, a smaller, more cost-effective product than the previous AT90SC3232C with significantly improved security and performance, has the addition of an SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface) port to provide additional features for secure embedded and other smart applications. Examples include embedded security for Set-Top boxes for manufacturers who may prefer their Pay TV Conditional Access to be embedded within the hardware or as a Secure Access Module (SAM) for payment and other smart card terminals. The enhanced features of the AT90SC3232CS, combined with Atmel`s AT45DB321B 32M-bit DataFlash®, made it suitable for the innovative 4M byte Smart Card ISAM (ITSO Secure Access Module). Designed for the Interoperable Transport Smartcard Organisation (ITSO), it is an example of how connecting a Flash memory to this device provides a means to securely store a large amount of data.
To complement these features, the AT90SC3232CS also incorporates 32K bytes of Flash program memory, for faster time to market and customer flexibility, together with 32K bytes of EEPROM and 3K bytes of RAM, which is enough to support the powerful 16-bit RISC co-processor for RSA key lengths up to 2048. Hardware triple DES (Data Encryption Standard) and Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) support, complete the cryptographic features of this flexible device.
Ian Duthie, Smart Card IC Marketing Manager said, "We have been really encouraged by both the diversity and the number of design wins we have already achieved with this new product release, with applications in Government ID, PKI, Banking, Pay-TV, GSM mobile and Transport sectors of the smart card market. The product is proving to be a good all-rounder due to its wide-ranging features."

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 31, 2002--Atmel® Corporation (Nasdaq:ATML - News) announced today it will support the standards-based security solution called Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) on its successful suite of 802.11b Media Access Controller (MAC) and MAC plus baseband controller parts. Wi-Fi is the term used by an industry consortium to describe interoperable wireless local area networks. WPA, a standard being promoted by Wi-Fi Alliance, will enhance the Wireless Encryption Privacy (WEP) encryption methodology supported under the IEEE 802.11 standard. A WPA security solution will be enabled simply through a firmware upgrade to existing products in the market and as an integrated hardware block in Atmel`s future MAC plus baseband products.
WPA is an intermediate security solution that is stronger and further reaching than Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP). The reason for which, is that it is based on industry standards, necessary for addressing immediate market needs to improve wireless message security. WPA includes 802.1x and TKIP but not the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). WPA uses the 802.1x standard as a basis for port based network access control, authentication and key management and TKIP an increased level of security by implementing random re-keying on WEP. TKIP uses RSA`s RC4 to perform the encryption.
"All Atmel`s Wireless LAN current products are Wi-Fi certified, either directly by Atmel or through customers using an Atmel reference design. Our decision to support the WPA security solution will ensure customers of Atmel based solutions that they will continue to receive the Wi-Fi certification after the establishment of the WPA test plan from the Wi-Fi Alliance. Additionally, the data currently available show that Atmel`s WPA implementation will be achieved with very low performance degradation when in firmware and with no performance degradation at all when in hardware, maintaining a popular advantage of Atmel`s existing WEP security mechanism implementation," said Dimitris Troupis, WLAN Specialist of Atmel`s Multimedia Communications Product Group. Dimitris Troupis further adds, "The fast growing deployment of 802.11b networks, will be uplifted from the Wi-Fi Alliance`s WPA security solution. Atmel is proud to contribute to this effort by offering WPA enabled 802.11b devices for the immediate Market needs". Atmel is also closely following the significant ongoing work of the IEEE 802.11i Task Group and plans to incorporate AES encryption for full support of the 802.11i standard when it emerges.
About the Wi-Fi Alliance
The Wi-Fi Alliance is a nonprofit organization formed in 1999 to certify interoperability of IEEE 802.11 products and to promote them as the global, wireless LAN standard across all market segments. The Wi-Fi Alliance has instituted a test suite that defines how member products are tested to certify that they are interoperable with other Wi-Fi CERTIFIED products. These tests are conducted at an independent laboratory. Membership in the Wi-Fi Alliance is open to all companies that support the 802.11 family of standards. Wi-Fi Alliance now comprises over 170 members that offer over 450 Wi-Fi CERTIFIED products from the world`s leading companies.

George Gilder, Gilder Technology Report, 10.30.02, 3:00 PM ET
NEW YORK - From the outset, the Gilder Technology Report has focused on super low-power analog VLSI (Moore`s law analog) and silicon germanium as keys to the future of the industry in single-chip systems. Our target product was software-adaptable radio technology, usable in billions of cellphones, PDAs and PCs around the world.
In the last week, however, Intel has made a series of announcements that show not only an unexpected forte in silicon germanium and analog but also a resolve to use these technologies in single-chip cellphone radios. Its new Banias platform for the first time also integrates dual-band Wi-Fi (802.11a/b) wireless connectivity onto the motherboard. For even thinner devices, Intel`s XScale architecture will also include 802.11b.

Atmel`s jump seen as security play
By Allen Wan, CBS.MarketWatch.com
Last Update: 3:04 PM ET Nov. 25, 2002
SAN JOSE, Calif. (CBS.MW) --
Shares of Atmel jumped more than 30 percent in heavy volume Monday, reflecting sentiment that the company stands to benefit from spending on security-related technological devices growing out of the Homeland Security Act of 2002.
A spokesman for the memory-chip company (ATML: news, chart, profile) credited enactment of the homeland-security legislation, which will spur federal spending in security-related issues, as well as recent deals done with the likes of Hewlett-Packard (HPQ: news, chart, profile) and IBM (IBM: news, chart, profile).
"There`s been a number of high-profile deals recently with partners such as H-P and security initiatives," said Atmel`s Clive Over.
"There`s no earnings or financial news," he said.
Atmel is supplying technology for a tablet PC device that H-P hopes to roll out by Christmas.
The company is also a prime vendor to a trusted-computer-platform that IBM is manufacturing aimed at providing more security for end users, the spokesman said.
Among the security initiatives that the company is developing is so-called fingerchip technology, which delivers an image of a user`s fingerprint in real-time through direct contact.
It`s also supplying microprocessors for so-called smart cards, the spokesman said.
Earlier Monday, President Bush signed legislation creating a new Department of Homeland Security with the aim of preventing and coordinating responses to domestic terrorist attacks.
Chip companies continued their recent rally Monday, though there were pockets of weakness.
The world`s biggest chip company, Intel (INTC: news, chart, profile) rebounded 1.1 percent by mid-afternoon trading, while Advanced Micro Devices (AMD: news, chart, profile) gained 14.3 percent.
Over admitted that Atmel is benefiting from an overall tech rebound and that trading in its stock remains volatile.
In the most recent third quarter, the company reported slightly higher revenues and a narrower net loss.
Atmel`s revenues rose to $298.7 million from $294.8 million a year earlier, while its net loss narrowed to $102 million, or 22 cents a share, from the prior year`s $442.8 million, or 95 cents a share.
Atmel`s shares rose 90 cents, or 32 percent, to $3.70 0n volume of 42 million shares -- more than three times its 52-day average of 13 million shares.
Und jetzt hab ich den Zug verpasst, ich könnte mich schwarz ärgern.
Aber vielleicht wars das noch lange nicht, siehe Cash-Flow im Q3.
