      U.S. jets bomb Waziristan Agency

After missile attacks on the US camp in the Urgoon area of Afghanistan, the US bombers retaliated to target Pakistani tribal areas of Damasar and Lowar Mandi in North Waziristan Agency.

Reliable sources told The News that on Wednesday night, unknown assailants targeted the US air base of Urgoon with five missiles, which caused huge losses to US troops present in the camp. According to tribal and official sources, after the missile attacks on the US camp at 2 am, two US helicopters arrived the area and taken the injured and alleged slain troops to some unknown place. However, it was not confirmed that how many troops were died and injured in the missile attack.

Later, US fighter planes B-52 were seen while heavily bombarding the area bordering Damasar situated at distance of 45 kilometres from Miran Shah, headquarters, North Waziristan Agency.

The area, occupied by paramilitary troops, known as Tuchi Scouts while for the first time in the half century old history of the country, Pakistan`s regular army has also been deployed there recently after the Bush administration asked its ally to do so.

Instead of targeting their desired areas in Afghanistan, the US B-52 planes targeted Pakistan`s Damasar and Lowara Mandi areas with five missiles. According to official sources in Miran Shah, these attacks on Pakistan`s tribal areas, have sent a wave of shock among the already charged tribesmen against US and its allies engaged in their so called war against terrorism in Afghanistan.

Official sources also told The News that Major Izhar Ahmad Bajwa of Pakistan Army has collected devices, which were dropped by the US fighter planes in night. Bajwa was reported to have visited the affected area and met people.

However, no loss of life was reported due to these missile attacks as four missile were said to have fell on the area at the distance of 100 meters of Tuchi Scouts camp while the remaining two were fell about 800 meters of the camp.

Despite several attempts by this scribe, none of the officials of political administration North Waziristan Agency were available for their official version.

      Pakistanis rally against US

The biggest rallies were in Afghan border areas

Tens of thousands of Pakistanis have joined marches in cities nationwide to protest against a possible US-led war against Iraq and US bombing on the border with Afghanistan.
The protests were called by an alliance of six religious parties that made significant gains in October elections.

If the US attacks Iraq there will be open war here. No American will be safe here

      Alliance leader Maulana Samiul Haq

Some of the biggest rallies were in towns and cities bordering Afghanistan.

In Peshawar, several thousand people took to the streets chanting ``Down with America`` and "Long Live Saddam Hussein."

Numbers were expected to swell as the demonstrations developed during the day.

      FBI presence

The protesters heard Islamic leaders denounce the American military build-up against Iraq.

The weekend bombing exacerbated anti-US feeling

One of them, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, said: ``The American attack on Iraq will be an attack on the Islamic world. If today we cannot stop America from attacking Iraq, then tomorrow they will attack Iran, and then it could be Pakistan."

The demonstrators also denounced the presence of FBI officials in Pakistan, and the American military involvement in Afghanistan.

Rallies were held in dozens of cities but remained mainly peaceful amid a large presence of riot police.

In Islamabad, about 400 people rallied outside the Red Mosque, some carrying banners reading ``American Terrorism`` and ``Stop the Holocaust Against Muslims``.

An alliance leader, Maulana Samiul Haq, said: ``If the US attacks Iraq there will be open war here. No American will be safe here."

      Assembly motion

The anti-US feeling has been exacerbated by a border incident on Sunday.

Pakistan`s Government said a US bomb had fallen on its territory near the border with Afghanistan, contradicting US reports that it had fallen inside Afghanistan.

The bomb was dropped after the US military in Afghanistan said a patrol came under fire near the town of Shkin, injuring one American soldier.

It said a Pakistan guard had opened fire after being asked to return to his side of the border.

The US authorities said later they had a long-standing policy, with the express consent of the government of Pakistan, to cross from Afghanistan in pursuit of fugitive Taleban or al-Qaeda militants.

The presence of these American forces is against the sovereignty of Pakistan. They should leave

      Islamic leader Zarnoor Afridi

Islamabad has made no official comment on the US assertion.

The US warplane had bombed a disused school where the guard had taken refuge, reports from Pakistan said.

No-one was hurt in the raid, but it outraged legislators in the Islamist-ruled North-West Frontier Province.

The provincial assembly approved a unanimous motion on Wednesday condemning the bombing as a violation of airspace and sovereignty.

Pak, US forces exchange heavy fire
      January 4th @ 04:12
WANA (The News) - Pakistani and US-Afghan forces on the Pak-Afghan border near Angoor Adda of South Waziristan Agency exchanged heavy machinegun fire on the night between Thursday and Friday, sources said.

Details of loss to human lives or property could not be ascertained. Local sources and government officials said that a rocket launcher shell, fired from across the border, fell into the Pakistani territory. The fire was reutrned, which resulted in the exchange of heavy machinegun fire from both sides for more than one hour.

All communication links between Angoor Adda and the rest of the country were suspended throughout Friday, while roads leading to the troubled area were closed for few hours for all kind of traffic.

Local people said the situation on the Pak-Afghan border was extremely tense amidst reports that a number of Afghan families were preparing to cross into Pakistan due to the presence of the force and round-the-clock surveillance by US helicopters. Pakistani officials disclosed that fresh contingents of scouts and armed forces have been dispatched to Angoor Adda to control the situation.

It was learnt that Pakistani tribesmen also joined the armed forces to retaliate against the firing from across the border. Talks for a calm between officials of the two sides were also reported.

It is to be noted that one American soldier was wounded due to the alleged firing by a scouts´ personnel three days back, which, officials from both sides said, was the result of misunderstanding.
