Mining: Inmet Suspends
Production in Turkey

TORONTO (CP) -- Inmet Mining Corp. (INM) will temporarily suspend operations at its Cayeli copper and zinc mine in Turkey to clean up after some areas of ground above the mine collapsed.
Inmet said Monday it has suspended production until the end of November after the Cayeli mine experienced a series of ground falls in the upper levels of the mine last Friday.
Inmet owns 55 per cent of Cayeli, a high-grade underground mine in northeastern Turkey that has been producing for nearly eight years. The mine employs about 380 people and is one of the lowest-cost underground base metal operations in the world.
"The ground movements have not resulted in any injuries or damage to equipment or mine infrastructure," Inmet said in a release. "Cayeli is performing rehabilitation work on the impacted areas during which time production will be suspended. It is currently anticipated that production will resume by the end of November."
Inmet produces copper, zinc and gold, with mining operations at the Cayeli mine, the Troilus mine in northern Quebec, the Pyhasalmi mine in Finland and the Ok Tedi mine in Papua New Guinea.
In trading on the Toronto stock market Monday, Inmet shares fell 20 cents to $5.
