M-Systems` DiskOnChip Supported as Hard Disk Disaster Recovery Solution
for Microsoft Windows 2000
DiskOnChip Contributes to Overall System Reliability as Startup Device and Storage Medium for Disaster Recovery Tools and
Data
FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 17, 2000-- M-Systems Flash Disk Pioneers Ltd. (Nasdaq:FLSH - news) announced today that it is now possible to
recover from hard disk failures using DiskOnChip with Microsoft Windows 2000.
Through the combined development efforts of M-Systems and Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq:MSFT - news), Windows 2000 enables the set up of DiskOnChip as a highly
reliable startup device. Windows 2000 can then execute its recovery features from the non-volatile DiskOnChip in the event of a magnetic hard drive failure.
``We are excited that M-systems is offering innovative disaster recovery solutions utilizing Windows 2000 technologies,`` said Keith White, director, Windows Marketing,
Microsoft Corp.
``Native support for DiskOnChip within Windows 2000 is an important milestone in our product road map and our relationship with Microsoft,`` said Dov Moran,
president and CEO, M-Systems Ltd. ``Together, we are providing our customers with dependable operation and improved recovery capabilities that provide new levels
of reliability to the market.``
In order to maximize system stability, Windows 2000 has introduced a new recovery tool, the Recovery Console, which can execute from the DiskOnChip flash disk.
Designed to replace problematic files or to manipulate service settings, the Recovery Console enables recovery from most magnetic hard disk crashes.
Fully integrated within the new operating system (OS), DiskOnChip can also serve as a highly reliable storage device for a variety of other recovery tools. DiskOnChip
can replace the Emergency Recovery Disk (ERD) by holding a recovery version of the OS. It can also store a backup of Windows critical data such as the Windows
registry, thereby increasing the probability of successful disaster recovery.
``By storing the tools provided by Windows 2000 on DiskOnChip, users are more protected from the hazards associated with magnetic hard disk malfunction,`` said Guy
Messalem, program manager of disaster recovery, M-Systems. ``Instead of using a failure-prone floppy disk for disaster recovery, system administrators and others can
benefit from the reliability of DiskOnChip`s built-in solid-state storage technology.``
DiskOnChip delivers recovery benefits to Windows 2000 that neither floppy disks nor hard disks can offer. With its patented TrueFFS® technology, DiskOnChip offers
a solution that combines the ease of a fully integrated storage device and the endurance and integrity of a sophisticated, wear-leveling high performance flash disk.
Information about the installation and use of DiskOnChip as a hard disk disaster recovery device can be found in the on-line help and other documentation for Windows
2000.
``DiskOnChip is an ideal disaster recovery solution for Windows 2000,`` said Brian Valentine, senior vice president at Microsoft Corp. ``When coupled with our latest
features, it contributes to hard disk disaster recovery capability never before seen in an operating system. Windows 2000, with support for DiskOnChip, will transform
the PC, helping to restore its image of reliability and manageability.``
DiskOnChip Technology
A complete, single chip Flash Disk solution, DiskOnChip is available in 32-pin DIP or TSOP packages with capacities ranging from 8 to 288 MB. This unique product
adds flexibility, minimizes integration efforts, reduces engineering costs and shortens time-to-market. M-Systems` DiskOnChip features high reliability, low power
consumption and small size.
DiskOnChip is forward and backward compatible, enabling new versions or higher capacity models to be used in existing DiskOnChip sockets without a need for system
redesign. More than 400 standard embedded systems motherboards are shipping with DiskOnChip devices or built-in DiskOnChip sockets. TrueFFS technology works in
nearly all major operating system environments including Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows CE, Windows NT, Windows NT Embedded and other leading operating
systems.

Salut Laurin, bis die WO-Fritzen auf die Firma aufmerksam werden haben wir schon einiges eingefahren. Interessiert offensichtlich
Netter Wachstumsmarkt...
