Chemdex mit Namensänderung und Expansion

Das vertikale B2B-Unternehmen Chemdex beabsichtigt neben dem Life Science Bereich in weitere
Industriezweige zu expandieren und ändert seinen Namen in Ventro Corporation (VNTR). Im Life
Science Bereich (Biotechnologie, Pharmazie und Lanwirtschaft) soll auch weiterhin Chemdex der
Brand Name bleiben. Ventro Corp. soll die Muttergesellschaft für Chemdex, die übernommene
Promedix und weitere Joint Ventures werden. Eine dementsprechende Werbekampagne zur
Etablierung des neuen Namens soll heute beginnen.

Mountain View, California, Feb. 21 (Bloomberg) -- Chemdex Corp., the online seller of
chemicals and lab equipment, said it is changing its name to Ventro Corp., forming a new
company to expand into other industry areas beyond life sciences.

Chemdex will continue to be the company`s brand for life sciences, which includes
agricultural, pharmaceutical and biotechnology products. Ventro will be become the parent
company that incorporates Chemdex; Promedix, a specialty medical-supplies provider that
Chemdex acquired; and joint ventures.


Mountain View, California-based Chemdex said it will expand into
health care and other areas.

``Chemdex is a great name for what we were incorporated and
started to do,`` said Chemdex Chief Executive Dave Perry, who will
become president and CEO of Ventro. ``It originally focused only on
the life-sciences market. As we expanded into other (areas),
Chemdex became less and less useful.``

No financial transactions were associated with the creation of
Ventro. The company will begin trading under the new stock symbol
VNTR on March 1.

An advertising campaign to support the new Ventro name will
begin today. The company plans to advertise in trade publications
and newspapers such as the Wall Street Journal. The company
didn`t disclose how much it would spend on its advertising
campaign.

Chemdex executives will remain in their jobs with the new
company.

Chemdex (Nasdaq: CMDX) has announced the formation of Ventro, a new company focused on the development of business-to-business (B2B) vertical marketplace companies. The parent company name has changed to Ventro Corporation and the stock symbol will switch from CMDX to VNTR on March 1. The Chemdex name will now be used for the company’s life sciences marketplace. We believe Ventro should be a core holding for investors who want to participate in the B2B e-commerce space.

The name change reflects management’s strategy to become a B2B incubator and enter many large markets. Ventro’s current subsidiaries consist of Chemdex (life sciences), Promedix (specialty medical products), the Tenet Healthcare joint venture (medical supplies) and Industria Solutions (a joint venture with DuPont for fluid processing). The addressable market for these companies is approximately $300bn, and the potential market for Ventro is enormous: the Gartner Group forecasts the B2B e-commerce industry will grow to $7.3 trillion by 2004.

Ventro was the first company to build an operational vertical marketplace, with Chemdex in life sciences, and we believe this expertise will enable it to best take advantage of the rapid growth in B2B applications. The company’s primary advantage is its established technology platform supported by Ventro’s strategic alliance with IBM’s e-business group.

Ventro is expected to enter new markets through the acquisition of existing companies or through joint ventures. The holding company strategy allows each company to utilize the core technology but ensures each will be managed by individuals with expertise in the specific market.
