Children`s Series to Boost Revenue by $4million

Magna Pacific (Holdings) Limited said on Wednesday it`s 50% owned subsidiary, Magna Pacific Pty Ltd, had won an exclusive contract to distribute US number one children`s television series Yu-Gi-Oh which was expected to add about $4 million in revenue by the end of fiscal year 2004.
Chief executive Allan Radley said Magna Pacific signed the 5-year deal with 4Kids Entertainment Inc, which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange (KDE) to distribute Yu-Gi-Oh on DVD and VHS throughout Australia.
"This is a great deal for Magna Pacific which will generate ongoing revenues for many years," he said.
"In the first two months alone, from release in July 2003, we expect to bring in about $1 million in revenue and we expect to be able to sell through another $3 million by the end of fiscal year 2004."
Mr Radley said Magna Pacific expected Yu-Gi-Oh would follow the success of Japanese children`s series Pokemon, which has generated more than US$15 billion in worldwide retail sales to date, and more than AU$10 million in Australian DVD/VHS retail sales alone.
"This is one of the biggest series we have signed; it`s currently the highest rating children`s television series across all broadcast networks in the United States."
"It has already generated more than US$3 billion in retail sales since it`s launch in June last year, so we see enormous potential upside for Magna."
Mr Radley said sales of Yu-Gi-Oh on DVD and VHS would be supported by franchise material such as trading cards, computer and console games, licensed toys and the series` television release on Channel 10.
"It is a real coup for Magna Pacific to be able to sign up such a high-profile children`s series," he said.
"Traditionally merchandising has driven sales on children`s titles such as Pokemon and Zolds so the strong presence of franchise material will translate into increased sales of the series on DVD and VHS."
Magna Pacific plans to release an initial six volumes in fiscal year 2004, with further volumes planned for fiscal 2005.
"With the current strong operational performance of the company, we are confident of comfortably meeting our forecast profit targets for fiscal year 2003."
Magna Pacific expects to book net profit before tax of $1.7 million on revenue of $20 million in fiscal year 2003, a NPBT increase of 69% on the previous year of $1.003 million.
