Rumsfeld is the Darth Vader of the Bush Administration and reportedly considers General Colin Powell a wimp. Rumsfeld served under Nixon, was Chief of Staff and then Secretary of Defense under Ford. He was Regan`s Special Envoy to the Middle East and he refers to the Occupied Territories as "Judea and Samaria" which places him in the far right Eretz Israel "might is right" camp.
During the Bush Senior years, Rumsfeld contented himself with being chairman of the Committee for the Free World , a home for right-wing defense hawks. In addition, Rumsfeld also sat on the board of Leo Cherne`s International Rescue Committee, the anti leftist human rights organization effusive in its support of right-wing regimes all over the world. Rumsfeld joined up with William Bennett as a board member of Empower America and he also served on the Boards of Trustees of the Hoover Foundation and the Rand Corporation, two prominent right-wing think tanks
Duing the Clinton Administration, Rumsfeld gave evidence in 1997 to Congress urging the Senate not to ratify the UN Chemical Weapons Convention and he also chaired a Commission set up by the (Republican) Congress which concluded in 1998 that U.S. intelligence had underestimated missile threats to the United States from the so-called rogue states such as North Korea, Iran and Iraq - the Bush "Axis of Evil" speech states. Rumsfeld refers to "Judea & Samaria", regards the Oslo accords as dead and is considered to be rather to the right of Benjamin Netanyahu on Palestinian issues.
