Market Analysis
Futures indicate to a very strong opening following significant progress in Iraq
Over the weekend the coalition forces made significant progress on many fronts in Iraq. Following a few days of raids and reconnaissance missions that saw U.S soldiers go in an out of Baghdad, Monday American tanks and armored vehicles moved into Baghdad and captured Saddam Hussein`s main presidential palace and once again destroyed symbols of the Iraqi regime. According to reports, U.S. Marines also seized control of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission headquarters east of Baghdad, and the military is now expected to remain in Baghdad.
In the south, the British military also made more progress in Basra, and now has full control of the city with the exception of a few small pockets of resistance. One British spokesman also said that they have found the body of Ali Hassan al-Majeed, also known as “Chemical Ali”. And finally, according to some reports, the U.S military has found more unidentified chemicals, which are being speculated as some of the WMD that the U.S government has alleged the Iraqi regime of having prior to and throughout the conflict. On a negative note, there were more U.S. casualties overnight when an Iraqi bomb slammed into a U.S. compound.
As a result of the above events, markets around the world have been rallying sharply Monday, and U.S. stock futures are also up sharply and indicating to a very very strong opening as investors and traders seem to believe the war may be drawing to a close. Oil, gold and bonds are all down across the board, may be as a result of investors pulling money out of these investment vehicles and getting back into equities. Last check, light crude oil prices were down close towards $27 a barrel, and spot gold in London had dropped more than $6 an ounce and was trading below $320.
Another reason why oil prices could be declining is the announcement by ChevronTexaco (CVX) that it is slowly restarting production in Nigeria following the shut down two weeks ago due to some civil unrest. Dollar is also strong this morning, as the Euro is now trading below $1.06 against the dollar.
Despite all the optimism this morning, we like to caution investors and traders that we are still in the earnings warnings season and the earnings season itself will begin next week. So RealTimeTraders analysts believe there will be more negative earnings and guidance to come out of corporate America that will limit any rally. We would also like to point out once again that the Dow has significant resistance around the 8500 level, and likewise the S&P 500 index has considerable resistance around 900.
We would also like to point out that late Friday in its weekly economic update report JP Morgan reaffirmed our views that growth will remain week in the second quarter of 2003. Moreover, JP Morgan went as far as to say that factory output and employment should contract further in April, and as a result, the firm believes the US economy is close to a recession again unless consumer spending increases.

Well blowout experts gear up to extinguish Iraq oilfields
By The Associated Press
(3/22/03- Houston) — The fact that Les Skinner isn`t U.S. military doesn`t mean he and his men aren`t poised to mobilize for Iraq.
Images of war
Skinner is a well blowout specialist a "hellfighter" glorified by Hollywood in the image of industry godfather Red Adair and his Cudd Well Control team and others are ready to repeat the feats they performed in Kuwait if retreating Iraqi forces decide to ignite oil wells en masse again.
"We have been in contact over the last three weeks (with U.S. officials)," Skinner said. "The chances are we will be getting some orders ourselves here, too."
The fires in Kuwait after the Gulf War were an environmental disaster that was quickly muted by the expertise of virtually every major figure in the modern well control business, including Adair himself and his former top lieutenants, Asgar "Boots" Hansen and Ed "Coots" Matthews.
All three are long since retired, though Hansen said from his Florida home that he`s monitoring the action. He said the wells in Kuwait presented all levels of difficulty, and his Boots and Coots Group crews tended to draw the toughest assignments because of their experience.
"Ones that go straight up in the air are the real easy ones," Hansen said. "The ones that are a big ball of fire on the ground are the hard ones."
Despite advances in well control technology over the years, Hansen, 76, said techniques he developed alongside Adair and Matthews over several decades and featured in the 1968 movie "Hellfighters," starring John Wayne as Adair, remain the industry standard.
"In Kuwait, naturally we had to set up the water supply, and we asked them what the prevailing winds were. They were mostly out of the northwest out of Iraq, so the water pits were dug on the northwest side of each well, and they lined them with this black plastic so they would hold water."
The goal of well firefighters remains the same, too.
"Our job is to keep the devil in the bottle, and if he gets out to put him back," Skinner said. "It doesn`t matter where the well is located."
Because the Iraqis blew up the wells and little else, Hansen said crews were able to reverse pipelines leading from the fields and pump in water from the Persian Gulf. The Iraqis also left behind buildings, roads, machine shops and living quarters at well sites.
"We just moved right in," Hansen said.
Conversely, Skinner said Cudd and other well firefighting firms, notably Houston neighbors Boots and Coots Group and Wild Well Control Inc., have no idea what to expect from this latest round of oil well destruction, which the U.S. military confirmed Saturday has occurred in a limited manner so far.
Or, worse, the reported fires could be the beginning of a massive scorched-earth retreat.
"Some of the wells have much higher flow rates (than Kuwait) and the terrain is different. There are some swampy areas," he said, a contrast to the flat desert of Kuwait. "There are of a number of differences which may complicate the work we do on the firefighting and capping."
U.S. firefighters have been apprised of as much of the landscape as possible, Skinner said, but there are things that will remain unknown until firefighters are on the scene.
For instance, possible sabotage or booby traps on wells could delay action by firefighting teams, and make a dangerous job fighting 3,200-degree blazes hot enough to melt sand even more hazardous than usual.
And, Skinner notes, they can`t even start working until the land around the estimated 1,500 to 2,000 wells is free of hostiles.
"We are not going to get over there and start fighting fires with the potential of someone setting it right back on fire while we`re working on it. We will have to make sure the areas are ready for us.
"We`re not combatants we`re not crazy enough to do that. The fires are bad enough."
As for Hansen, he`s happy in retirement, spending much of the time on his boat "Chandon" off the coast of Fort Myers Beach, Fla.
Yet even at his age, Hansen said he`s available.
"I`ll probably end up on the boat, but if it gets in a bind, you`ve got to help your country," Hansen said. "If it has to be, I could sure do it."

Kellogg Brown & Root, the engineering and construction subsidiary of Houston-based Halliburton Co., announced last month it had been awarded a $489.3 million contract to assess and extinguish Iraqi oil well fires.

und davon wird sich B&C einen teil von abschneiden!
wie hoch, wird man sehen!
ebenso ob und wenn ja (davon gehe ich aus) B&C am "wiederaufbau" beteiligt wird!
