Zeitung: Sahaf geht US-Soldaten ins Netz

Der frühere irakische Informationsminister Mohammed el Sahaf ist angeblich von US-Soldaten gefangen genommen worden. Das berichtet der britische Daily Mirror. Die US-Regierung bestätigte diese Meldung bislang nicht.

El Sahaf bei Verwandten versteckt
El Sahaf sei in der Nacht zum Dienstag an einer Straßensperre in Bagdad festgenommen worden, schrieb die Zeitung. Er habe sich bei Verwandten versteckt gehalten. Dort habe er sich über das Satelliten-Fernsehen über das aktuelle Geschehen informiert. "Dieses Mal wird es für ihm beim Sprechen ernst", zitiert das Blatt hochrangige Koalitionskreise.

El Sahaf spielte wichtige Rolle im Irak-Krieg
Während des Irak-Kriegs hatte El Sahaf als Sprachrohr von Iraks Präsident Saddam Hussein immer wieder für Verwunderung gesorgt: Er dementierte Ereignisse, die von Fernsehzuschauern zum Teil direkt mitverfolgt werden konnten. So bestritt er etwa Vorstöße der US-Truppen auf Bagdad, während er sich praktisch in Sichtweite von US-Panzern auf der anderen Seite des Tigris befand. Das brachte ihm den Spitznamen Comical Ali ein.



Ex-Informationsminister wird zur Kultfigur
Nach dem Krieg wurde er deswegen und auch wegen seiner blumigen Sprache - besonders im Internet - zu einer Art Kultfigur. Auf T-Shirts, Kaffeetassen und zahlreichen Websites finden sich sein Konterfei und auswählte Sprüche wie "Gott wird ihre Mägen in der Hölle braten."

Dubai - Der durch seine teils skurrilen Aussagen zu Beginn des Irak-Krieges bekannt gewordene Informationsminister Mohammed Said el Sahhaf ist wieder im Fernsehen aufgetreten. Der in Dubai ansässige arabische Fernsehsender El Arabiya strahlte am Donnerstag Teile eines für morgen geplanten Interviews mit Sahhaf im Voraus aus. Der Ex-Minister, der vor dem Sturz der Regierung stets in Uniform und mit Barrett vor die Kameras getreten war, trug dabei ein graues Hemd und hatte sichtlich weißes Haar. Sahhaf erklärte laut Agenturmeldungen, nach Verhören von den amerikanischen Besatzungstruppen "unverzüglich" wieder freigelassen worden zu sein.

Interview wird am Freitag gesendet

"Über einige Freunde habe ich mich den Amerikanern gestellt", sagte Sahhaf demnach. "Ich wurde zu einer Reihe Tätigkeiten in meinem Aufgabenbereich befragt und danach freigelassen." Sahhaf steht nicht auf der US-Liste der 55 meistgesuchten Iraker. Das Interview sei am Donnerstag in Sahhafs "Versteck" im Großraum der irakischen Hauptstadt aufgezeichnet worden, berichtete der Sender. Es soll am Freitag um 21.00 Uhr (MESZ) in voller Länge - 30 Minuten - gesendet werden. Dabei werde Sahhaf einige "wichtige Informationen über den letzten Krieg und den Sturz des irakischen Regimes geben", teilte El Arabiya mit.

Sahhaf war während des Krieges mit unglaublichen Siegesmeldungen über die Invasionsstreitkräfte in den Medien der Welt bekannt geworden. Von angelsächsischen Journalisten wird der frühere Informationsminister auch "Comical Ali" genannt, weil er bis zur Eroberung Bagdads das Herannahen der alliierten Streitkräfte wortreich geleugnet hatte. Er verschwand am Tag des Einmarschs von US-Truppen in Bagdad am 9. April. Am Mittwoch hatte die Londoner Zeitung "Daily Mirror" berichtet, Sahhaf sei am Montag in Bagdad verhaftet worden.
