ITXC Obtains Type 2 Telecommunications License in Japan
Thursday October 9, 7:00 pm ET
Source: ITXC Corp.
PRINCETON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 9, 2003--ITXC Corp. (NASDAQ:ITXC - News) today announced that its newly formed subsidiary, ITXC Global Japan, has obtained a General Type 2 telecommunications license from the Japanese Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications. The license allows ITXC to deliver international voice services to telecommunications carriers in Japan.
ITXC operates the world`s largest voice over IP (VoIP) network, ITXC.net®, capable of reaching every phone in the world through direct traffic relationships with hundreds of local, national and global carriers in over 175 countries. Carriers in Japan benefit from low cost and high quality call completion for international calls originated by their customers in Japan to ITXC`s global footprint. They also benefit from the revenue they receive when they terminate calls to Japan sent to them over ITXC.net from countries around the world.
"We are very pleased to have received our General Type 2 telecommunications license in Japan," said Diarmid Massey, ITXC Managing Director for Asia. "The Japanese market is highly focused on quality and earlier efforts by many companies in the VoIP marketplace have not been well received. We believe that the quality of VoIP now exceeds the quality of many routes offered by traditional carriers and that the time is right for us to enter the wholesale market in Japan."
ITXC recently opened a sales office in Tokyo and appointed Ryuichi Suguro as Country Manager. Suguro brings ITXC local knowledge and industry experience from Sprint International, Japan Telecom, and International Telecom Japan (ITJ). Since Suguro`s appointment, ITXC has signed agreements with two of the largest international phone carriers in Japan.
Japan is one of the worlds most developed telecommunications markets. The VoIP services market in Japan is expected to continue to gain traction and move into the mainstream. VoIP services market in Japan will grow in size from 3.1 billion yen to 720 billion yen during the years 2002 to 2007, according to IDC Japan. Revenue gains from VoIP services will initially be concentrated in the consumer market but corporate use will come to dominate the overall market starting in 2005.

Monday October 13, 8:00 am ET
PRINCETON, N.J. & ULAANBAATAR, Mongolia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 13, 2003--
ITXC Continues to Use VoIP to Bring High Quality, Low Cost International Voice Services Directly to Developing World
ADVERTISEMENT
ITXC Corp.® (NASDAQ:ITXC - News), one of the world`s leading international voice carriers, and Mobicom Corporation, Mongolia`s leading mobile provider with over 80% market-share and more than 200,000 subscribers, today announced that the companies have established an agreement for the bilateral exchange of international voice traffic to and from Mongolia over ITXC.net®.
ITXC operates the world`s largest international VoIP network, ITXC.net, capable of reaching every phone in the world through direct traffic relationships with hundreds of local, national and global carriers in over 175 countries. ITXC continues to use VoIP to bring high quality, low cost international voice services directly to countries in the developing world, including Mongolia.
By interconnecting their mobile network with ITXC.net, Mobicom is able to gain higher margins and rapid revenue growth from inbound and outbound international traffic associated with their rapidly growing national network. By using a VoIP interconnection to ITXC.net directly in Mongolia, Mobicom also receives significant savings in capital and operating expenses, while dramatically reducing the time and costs required to add capacity and new destinations.
"As a carrier in the developing world, it is important for us to focus on rapidly building our local services and to take advantage of the benefits that VoIP affords to connect to the rest of the world," said Suvdanchimeg Yadmaa, Director of International Telecom & Carrier Business Division for Mobicom Corporation. "Through our VoIP connection to VoIP-based ITXC.net, we have instant scalable access to a high quality, low cost international long distance network which allows us to grow our revenue and margin streams very quickly and the ability to rapidly grow our international traffic with very competitive rates."
"We are very pleased that Mobicom has recognized the advantage of using ITXC for their international long distance voice network needs," said Diarmid Massey, ITXC Managing Director for Asia. "As Mongolia engages more deeply with the global economy, connection to ITXC allows Mobicom dramatically better scalability and flexibility to grow rapidly and grow profitably."

Hallo!

Telecom Italia shifts all long-distance traffic to IP network
By Junko Yoshida
EE Times
October 16, 2003 (12:03 p.m. EST)
GENEVA — Of the 25 European telephone operators participating in a study of "converged voice and data," two thirds said that traditional voice services will be less than 50 percent of their revenue by 2006. The study also found the 42 percent of the incumbent operators were planning a swift migration to IP networks within the next two years.
Cisco Systems, which commissioned the Yankee Group study, unveiled the results at ITU Telecom Conference here on Wednesday (Oct. 15). Cisco also trotted out European customers at during a press conference to demonstrate their desire to migrate to a packet-based infrastructure and converged services.
Stefano Pileri, head of Telecom Italia`s domestic network, announced, "As of three weeks ago, all the long-distance traffic in Italy is carried over the IP network."
Telecom Italia first began transferring its European carrier-to-carrier traffic to Voice-over-IP in 1999. It then embarked on a project to convert its domestic long-distance traffic to an IP network by substituting switches with 24 IP nodes voice gateways. "We`ve just completed the task," Pileri said.
In the third phase of its roll out, Telecom Italia said it is now offering Voice-over-IP services to enterprises, he added.
Implementing converged services and infrastructures, however, remains challenging. Pileri said Telecom Italia initially found that "it was not easy to tune quality of service" for different services ranging from voice, data to video conferencing.
The cost of training switch engineers to handle both voice and data has been "enormous," said Peter Moebius, senior vice president and head of Equant, a Swiss overlay carrier. Equant is converging voice and data onto one platform "because it was our only chance to survive," said Moebius.
Asked about spending for building IP networks for domestic long-distance traffic, Telecom Italia`s Pileri said it spent 40 million euros (about $46.6 million) in both 2002 and so far in 2003. He estimated a 16 to 18 percent reduction in operating costs this year as a result of the investment. The operational savings will increase to 60 percent in 2004, he said.
The Yankee Group study concluded that despite indications that migration schedules are narrowing, carriers remain skeptical that immediate reliance on converged services alone will stem revenue erosion. Pointing out that operators are judged not on the size of their network but on customer fidelity and value, the report concluded: "If converged services and infrastructures can truly reduce costs, increase loyalty and be a launch pad for new service development, few operators will be able to resist."

ITXC installiert hierfür Cisco´s `Voice Infrastructure and Applications Solution` (Cisco VIA).

ITXC installiert hierfür Cisco´s `Voice Infrastructure and Applications Solution` (Cisco VIA).

„Voice over IP“ heißt das Zauberwort.

ITXC Offers Outsourced Call Termination Services for Pre-paid
ITXC introduced a new service that enables international prepaid providers to outsource call completion for some or all of their routes to ITXC. ITXC already serves several major prepaid service providers who deliver millions of minutes over ITXC.net. The new service offers greater flexibility, allowing pre-paid providers to outsource call completion for individual prepaid card programs or, in some cases, outsourcing their entire call completion to ITXC. Previously, pre-paid service providers were forced to buy call termination for each route individually. ITXC predicts that minutes and revenues in the prepaid industry will continue to rise.
