Nantero, Inc. Announces Collaboration With ASML Compatibility of Nanotube Processes with ASML Equipment Proven
Monday October 27, 10:36 am ET
WOBURN, Mass., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Nantero announced today a collaborative project with ASML Holding NV to demonstrate compatibility between its nanotube materials and processes and ASML`s industry-leading semiconductor equipment. The project has been ongoing since early 2003 in ASML`s research fab with a joint team from Nantero and from ASML`s Special Applications Group. The project has already demonstrated that ASML`s equipment is fully capable of handling nanotubes using Nantero protocols and of carrying out Nantero`s new manufacturing steps without any modifications. One of the wafers created during the project contains 10 billion suspended nanotube junctions, with each junction area comprised of multiple nanotubes. Nantero`s proprietary NRAM(TM) design uses suspended nanotubes as memory bits, with the up position representing a "zero" and then bending them down into contact with the surface below to represent a "one".
Dr. Brent Segal, co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Nantero, stated that, "Nantero selected ASML due to its advanced lithography capabilities and the strong R&D capabilities and team of the Special Applications Group, which helps keep ASML on the leading edge of its industry. Nantero has developed a completely CMOS-compatible manufacturing process for NRAM(TM), and this project has helped to prove that the process is achievable using popular lithography equipment such as ASML`s."
"Working with Nantero`s nanotube materials and processes was straightforward. Our joint team was able to achieve results within weeks of beginning the project. ASML looks forward to seeing how the methods and technologies will develop and integrate in volume production environments," said Norbert Kappel, vice president, marketing, ASML Special Applications. Greg Schmergel, Nantero`s co-founder and CEO, added, "We are pleased to be working with an industry leader of ASML`s caliber and plan to continue to work with them well into the future."
About ASML
ASML is the world`s leading provider of lithography systems for the semiconductor industry, manufacturing complex machines that are critical to the production of integrated circuits or chips. Headquartered in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, ASML is traded on Euronext Amsterdam and NASDAQ under the symbol ASML.
About Nantero
Nantero is developing NRAM(TM) - a high-density nonvolatile random access memory chip using nanotechnology. The company expects to deliver a product that will replace all existing forms of memory, such as DRAM, SRAM and flash memory, with a high-density nonvolatile RAM - `universal memory.` For more information on Nantero, Inc. contact SGN Public Relations & Marketing at Suzanne@nantero.com .

TINY mit dem Quartalsbericht und interessanten Backgroundinfos.
TINY mit dem Quartalsbericht und interessanten Backgroundinfos.
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 19, 2003--The Senate yesterday passed a version of the Nanotechnology Research and Development Act (S. 189) that was negotiated with the House Science Committee and has enjoyed the backing of the NanoBusiness Alliance (www.nanobusiness.org) since its initial development over three years ago. The House is expected to pass the bill shortly and send it on to the President, who is expected to sign it.
S. 189 puts the President`s National Nanotechnology Initiative into law and authorizes $3.7 billion over the next four years for the program. The bill also requires the creation of research centers, education and training efforts, research into the societal and ethical consequences of nanotechnology, and efforts to transfer technology into the marketplace. Finally, the bill includes a series of coordination offices, advisory committees and regular program reviews to ensure that taxpayer money is being spent wisely and efficiently.
"Both sides of the aisle in Senate should be commended for their foresight and hard work in getting this bill through," said F. Mark Modzelewski, Executive Director of the NanoBusiness Alliance. He added, "This nanotech bill is a vital catalyst for the development and growth of what will become a $1 Trillion piece of the global economy. This bill will also allow the U.S. to continue to strive for global leadership in this highly competitive nanotechnology marketplace."
Science Committee Chairman Sherwood Boehlert (R-NY) applauded the Senate action. "The bill also ensures that the potential societal consequences of nanotechnology are studied as the technology moves forward. The nanotechnology program will be a model of how government, universities and industry can work together to advance science and bolster our nation`s economy," noted Rep. Boehlert.
Noted venture capitalist Josh Wolfe of Lux Capital added, "Our leaders have answered the call to secure U.S. leadership in nanotechnology. This funding represents a pledge of confidence in our nation`s scientists and entrepreneurs. This is a momentous period and I couldn`t be more excited to be part of it."
"This bill should insure the U.S. dominance of nanotechnology. It will be followed by an even larger flow of capital from the financial markets into the nanotechnology industry," said Larry Bock, Executive Chairman, NanoSys, Inc. "I expect this to ignite an exponential growth in entrepreneurial activity in nanotechnology."
Joining the NanoBusiness Alliance and its 250+ members in supporting the bill are the National Association of Manufacturers, Semiconductor Industry Association, Association for Computing Machinery, Computing Research Association, Association of American Universities, Alliance for Science and Technology Research in America, and the Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineers.
Nanotechnology is the manipulation of materials at the atomic scale. The National Science Foundation has estimated that nanotechnology applications may be worth more than $1 trillion in the global economy in little more than a decade. Nanotechnology will affect almost every aspect of our lives -- from the medicines we take; to computers we use; to the energy supplies we require; to the food we eat; to the cars we drive; to the buildings we live in; to the clothes we wear. For every area where we can imagine the impact of nanotech, there will be others no one has yet thought of -- new capabilities, new products, and new markets.

Was kann man machen ?

hi leute,

Damit bleibt ausreichend Phantasie in Tiny.

TINY = CMGI

muss halt jeder selbst entscheiden.

NANOTECH VC TO JOIN HARRIS & HARRIS AND OPEN WEST COAST OFFICE
By David Forman
Small Times Staff Writer
Daniel Leff is among a small cadre of nanotech-focused venture capitalists at leading VC firms.
Jan. 15, 2004 – In another sign that the nascent nanotechnology sector is evolving into a viable area of specialization, Harris & Harris Group Inc. (Quote, News, Web) announced this morning that Daniel Leff, a senior associate at Sevin Rosen Funds, will join the firm as executive vice president and managing director on Jan. 19. Leff will establish and run the firm’s West Coast office in Los Angeles.
Leff, 35, is a good fit for Harris & Harris, a publicly traded venture firm that invests in nanotechnology, MEMS and microsystems. “There is a very short list of people with venture capital experience who also have the ability to talk business and nanotechnology,” said Doug Jamison, vice president. (The company announced Wednesday that Jamison will become president, chief operating officer and chief financial officer of Harris & Harris when Mel Melsheimer retires at the end of the year.)
Leff is among a small cadre of nanotech-focused venture capitalists at leading VC firms. Two deals on which he played a pivotal role at Sevin Rosen included Nanomix Inc. (Profile, News, Web), a developer of chemical sensors employing carbon nanotubes as sensing elements, and InnovaLight, a developer of next-generation solid state lighting technologies. He also worked on deals in other technology fields at the firm.
For H&H, technical acumen is a prized asset. A large part of evaluating a prospective deal, company executives say, is scrutinizing a company’s technology. And Leff is uniquely qualified. He earned a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles, where he was the first graduate student to work under nanotechnology pioneer James Heath (now at the California Institute of Technology), who was himself a protégé of Nobel laureate Richard Smalley (News, Web). Leff also earned an MBA from the Anderson School at UCLA. Before Sevin Rosen, he was at Redpoint Ventures and Intel Corp., in addition to a stint as an entrepreneur.
Leff said he tries to take a dispassionate, pragmatic approach to the sector. He views nanotechnology not as a single investment or market space, but rather as a collection of enabling and potentially disruptive technologies that can solve fundamental problems in many industries. Nevertheless, he said, “I think there’s going to be a great deal of value created in a meaningful time frame both in terms of wealth creation and quality of life.”
As nanotechnology heats up on Wall Street (see "Nano crossing into `speculative space` "), venture capitalists with Ph.D. nanotech credentials could become increasingly sought after.
“On the one hand, there’s not a huge number of companies that investors have made lots of money on,” said Clint Bybee, a managing partner at ARCH Venture Partners who has worked with Leff on venture deals. On the other hand, he said, “there is clearly a trend toward, and huge dollars from, grant agencies flowing into this area.”
ARCH happens to be among the moneymaking investors. The company seeded Nanophase Technologies Corp. (Quote, News, Web), the nanomaterials manufacturer that Harris & Harris also invested in. Nanophase went public in 1997.
As for venture firms circling the sector, Bybee said, “you’ll see more and more.”
