The Board
Executive Directors
Andrew Yao
Mr. Yao is the Founder and one of the key drivers behind the establishment of iSteelAsia.com. He is currently serving as the Chairman of the Company. Launched in December 1999, iSteelAsia.com is Asia`s first online exchange for trading in steel and steel products. It is the first of its kind to be listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange`s GEM board in April 2000. With the "Global Vision, Asian Focus" goal, Mr. Yao shares with iSteelAsia.com his extensive experience in the steel trading business. To date, iSteelAsia.com has over 4,000 registered members.
Aiming to build iSteelAsia.com as the premier e-enabler of the entire Asian steel community and to provide this community with comprehensive value-added services, Mr. Yao formed alliances with internationally renowned technology and business partners.
He is also the chairman and CEO of Van Shung Chong Holdings Limited, a Hong Kong-listed company with 1999 turnover of US$240 million. Under his direction, Van Shung Chong expanded its market share in the construction steel industry in Hong Kong from 10% in 1992 to 66.6% in 1999. Profit grew almost four times in the last six years. Van Shung Chong has also forged strategic joint ventures in China, including a coil service center in Guangdong with Baosteel of China.
He obtained a B. Sc. degree in finance from the University of California at Berkeley and an M.B.A. from the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration. Mr. Yao sits on the boards of various business associations including the Executive Committee of Hong Kong Housing Society, a quasi-governmental agency with assets in excess of US$2 billion, and is a General Committee Member of Federation of Hong Kong Industries. Currently, he is a member of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese People`s Political Consultative Conference and a Director of Fudan University, Shanghai. He was also the former President of Harvard Business School Association in Hong Kong.
Miriam Yao
As Founder & Deputy Chairman of the Board of iSteelAsia.com, Ms. Yao made major contributions in forging strategic business alliances and the development of the business processes for the Company.
Ms. Yao has many years of experience in the steel industry. As the Executive Director of Van Shung Chong Holdings Limited, she is responsible for the sourcing of rebars worldwide and has excellent relationships with the global steel suppliers.
Prior to joining Van Shung Chong in 1991, Ms. Yao was an auditor at Arthur Andersen & Company and worked in the corporate finance department at the Bankers Trust Company in Hong Kong.
Ms. Yao is a Certified Public Accountant in the US and received her B.Sc. degree in Accounting from the University of Southern California.
Drina Wan Yue
Ms. Yue holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She also received Executive MBA training during her career with the Bell companies in the US. Before joining iSteelAsia, Ms. Yue has over twenty years of multi-functional experience in the telecommunications field as she held various senior management positions with international conglomerates and helped with overseeing business developments and regional operations. She lived in the US for 20 years before moving to China in 1994 and worked in China for 6 years.
As the Director and Chief Executive Officer of iSteelAsia, she is responsible for the Company`s overall strategy development and execution, as well as operations management and compliance officer for the listed company. iSteelAsia "Global Vision, Asian Focus" strategy positioned the Company to profitability as well as the first listed steel vertical portal in the world. Under her leadership, iSteelAsia built an extensive distribution network in China, including two WOFEs, many sales companies, and strategic relationship with steel mill partners globally. Despite the downward trends of the world economy, the burst of the .com bubble, and the difficulties faced by the steel industry, iSteelAsia sales turnover grew 130% to $438 millions compared to the previous year in 2000. iSteelAsia built a worldwide brandname, strong distribution network, strong P&L performance, and became a solid steel "distributor and value-added service provider" in Asia, particularly Greater China. Harvard Business School and many other world-class institutions conducted case studies of iSteelAsia as a successful company using new economy tools to benefit on traditional industry operations. CNN, CNBC, BBC, Bloomberg, ATV, and many other media interviewed Drina and she spoke at over 60 prestige conferences, forums and public occasions sharing her insights and experiences.
Drina began her career in June 1980 at AT&T in the US as development engineer and system analyst. She was transferred to Bell Communications Research in 1984 as Member of Technical Staff, later promoted to group leader of Networks Systems. Ms. Yue was transferred to BellSouth Enterprises in late 1985, where she worked extensively on BellSouth`s ventures in many countries, including Mainland China, Denmark, Germany, Australia, and served on BellSouth`s Strategic Planning Group in the US. She received the "Spirit of Enterprises Award" given by the President of BellSouth Enterprises. She rose to the rank of Director in BellSouth Enterprises. With her 16 years career at the Bell System, she received five US patents in telecommunications services.
From 1996 to 1998, Ms. Yue was Vice-President at Global TeleSystems Group in China, tasked with developing strategic business opportunities for mobile phone/data networks in Mainland China. She joined Motorola China Network Solutions Division as Chief of Staff in 1999, responsible to oversee the operation.
Ms. Yue was appointed by Mr. Tong Chee Hwa, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region PRC to serve as a board member of the Information Infrastructure Advisory Committee (IIAC) since August 2000.

@jetti,
