Fingerabdrücke in EU-Pässen

Die USA dringen auf die Einführung neuer Sicherheitsmerkmale in europäischen Reisepässen. Elektronisch gespeicherte Fingerabdrücke und andere biometrische Daten in EU-Pässen seien "eine dringende Angelegenheit" zur Bekämpfung der Terrorgefahr, sagte der US-Staatssekretär für Grenzschutz und Verkehrssicherheit, Asa Hutchison, am Montag in Brüssel.

Binnen zweieinhalb Jahren wollen EU und USA Einzelheiten dazu festlegen. Hutchison rechnet nach eigenen Worten damit, dass der US-Kongress die Visafreiheit für die meisten EU-Bürger bis dahin verlängert.

Generaldirektor Jonathan Faull von der EU-Kommission sagte nach einem Treffen mit Hutchison, beide Seiten dächten auch an den Aufbau einer gemeinsam Datenbank über gestohlene und verlorene Reisepässe. EU wie USA hätten jeweils große Datenmengen, doch der internationalen Polizeibehörde Interpol fehlten die Angaben. "Es macht großen Sinn, das zu schaffen", meinte Faull.

Hutchison verteidigte das jüngste Abkommen mit der EU zur Übermittlung von Fluggastdaten an die US-Behörden gegen Kritik des Europa-Parlaments. Die Abgeordenten hatten Probleme mit dem Datenschutz gerügt. "Wir glauben, dies ist ein gutes Abkommen", sagte der Staatssekretär. Einer Entscheidung des Europäischen Gerichtshofs in der Sache sehe er gelassen entgegen.

Zu den biometrischen Daten in Reisepässen sagte der EU-Beamte Faull, die Kommission hoffe auf eine baldige Einführung. Alles deute derzeit daraufhin, dass Gesichtsform und Fingerabdruck elektronisch gespeichert werden sollen . Die USA hatten die Visafreiheit für EU-Bürger bisher davon abhängig gemacht, dass deren Pässe solche Chips bis zum 26. Oktober 2004 bekommen. Die US-Regierung will diese Frist nun um zwei Jahre verlängern. Dem muss der Kongress zustimmen.

Griechenland und alle zehn EU-Beitrittsländer außer Slowenien profitieren derzeit nicht von der Visafreiheit. Hutchison sagte, die US-Behörden bewerteten jedes Land einzeln. Dabei spielten deren Grenzkontrollen und die Zahl verweigerter Visaanträge eine Rolle. EU-Länder ohne Visafreiheit für die USA können die Einführung einer Visapflicht für US-Bürger in der gesamten Union verlangen, doch hat dies bisher weder Griechenland noch ein neues EU-Land beantragt.

Denke eher mittelfristig, auf Jahressicht, wenn dei Aufträge in Umsaätzen sichtbar werden, ( 120 Mio Umsatz,wäre ja mal was) geht die Post ab.
Im Quartal 50 % Umsatzzuwachs wären natürlich ideal.

Da ich bei VISG nur kurzfristtrader bin, habe ich keinen Kontakt zu der Firma bisher gehabt und hoffte, daß jemand von den LangfristNalegern mehr weiss!

Also ich halte auch einige Aktien längerfristg, und da habe ich auch Kontakt zu den Firmen!

Und da weiß ich halt was ich erwarten kann!

Hier scheinen die Zahelen niemand zu interessieren!

Das kann ja morgen heiter werden!

Und ob meine company noch kurzfristig eine Antwort erhalten wird wird sich erweisen!

Als Langfristanleger, sollte man schon Kontakt zu den Firmen halten und dadurch gut informiert sein, gelegentlich auch mal ein Telefonat und man weiss mehr als der Durchschnitt !

Ich kann nur empfehlen, dass ihr dass noch nachholt, wenn ihr längerfristig investiert bleiben wollt!

Meine Frage war auch eine andere. Keine noch so gute Information deiner companys, in die Du investiert bist (längerfristig) wird Dir Informationen geben über die Konkurrenz. Da muss man schon andere Wege gehen

ich sehe das so - 10$ jahresziel sind erstmal klar - nun müssen wir die quartalszahlen und den ausblick abwarten - je nachdem gehts über die 10 oder drunter - ich bin seit jahren in VISG investiert , meiner meinung nach hat die firma es endlich geschafft ( 2 übernahmen) - ich bin nicht drauf aus, hier jeden $ abzuholen - ich finde die kundenliste ist gut bestückt, so dass eine langfristige erholung durchaus möglich ist - schulden hat VISG sicherlich, ber das haben andere auch

Meine Meinung: Egal wie die Zahlen ausfallen, Viisage wird langfristig seinen Weg gehen. Die Korrektur ist nötig und gesund für die Kursentwicklung.Wir haben alle miterleben können wie Viisage in den Letzten Wochen rasant gestiegen ist. Was meint ihr was passiert wenn Viisage wieder demnächst 1 - 2 Aufträge erhält? Der kurs wird in die Höhe schießen und wieder wird eine Korrektur kommen usw. Und irgendwann steht der Kurs bei 50$. Nur Geduld.
Und die Party wird weitergehen........

#5 ist davon ausgegangen das heute die nach Börsenschluß die Zahlen kommen.

Schwer einzuschätzen wie der weitere Verlauf von Viisage sein wird. Die USA wird in den nächsten zwei Jahren ca. 76 Mrd.$ Dollar für die innere Sicherheit ausgeben, wobei das Geld für die unterschiedlichsten Bereiche ausgegeben wird.
So zum Beispiel für die Grenz und Transport- Sicherheit und nicht zu vergessen die Chemische und biologische Bedrohung. Außerdem hat die US-Regierung mehr als 13 Mrd.$zur Verfügung gestellt um lokale Kräfte wie Feuerwehr,Polizei und Ambulanzen besser auszurüsten und zu schulen.
Da sind außer Werte wie Identix und Magal auch noch kleinere Werte wie ManTech(MANT)Osi System(ISIS)für Regierungsaufträgen interresant. Dennoch glaube ich das Viisage als Anbieter von Biometrie Systemen,auch durch die Übernahmen,gut positioniert ist und mit weiteren Aufträgen rechnen kann.

the Company has received the official order to support the production of secure,
smart credentials as part of the Common Access Card (CAC) smart card program
from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). The initial purchase order is valued

The net loss for the second quarter of 2004 was $317,000, or $0.01 per basic and diluted share, compared to the net loss of $1.38 million, or $0.07 per basic and diluted share, for the second quarter of 2003.
Separately, the Company announced today that it has reached a settlement with the Department of Motor Vehicle Safety for the State of Georgia, designed to enable the state to end its litigation with a competitor of Viisage over the state drivers` license contract awarded to Viisage in 2002. The state has confirmed that it intends to issue a new request for proposals for its drivers` license system later this year.
On December 30, 2003, Viisage adopted new accounting rule EITF 00-21, "Accounting for Revenue Arrangements with Multiple Deliverables," which pertains to revenue recognition for certain long-term contracts, such as Viisage`s state drivers` licenses, retroactive to January 1, 2003.
"We are very pleased with our financial and operational performance during the second quarter, our first full quarter including the results of our recent acquisitions, as we solidified our position as a leading identity solutions company," said Bernard Bailey, president and CEO of Viisage. "We quickly integrated the acquisition of Trans Digital Technologies (TDT), announced in the first quarter, culminating in a critical contract win of the Department of Defense Common Access Card program, which is expected to generate more than $10 million in revenue over this year and next. We also demonstrated continued traction in the important law enforcement market, with the expansion of our work to a mobile solution in Pinellas County, Florida; a new contract in Jefferson County, Alabama; and another contract with a major metropolitan law enforcement organization."
Bailey concluded, "We believe we are executing well on our strategy to provide our customers with the full lifecycle of identity solutions, and we think we are well positioned to continue our growth, both organically and through partnerships and select acquisitions. We also believe that the action announced today to help end the stalemate in Georgia will enable us to move forward and focus our resources on a wide range of current opportunities around the world that fit our capabilities strategically, while still providing us with the potential to win that drivers` license contract again when the new request for proposals is issued this year."
Bill Aulet, Viisage`s chief financial officer, added, "Viisage continued to significantly improve its financial performance in the past quarter, leveraging an 85% revenue increase on a year-over-year basis along with tight expense controls to post gross margins of 31%, up substantially on an annual and sequential basis. EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) grew from $709,000 in the second quarter last year to $3.14 million in the same period this year. Cash at the end of the quarter totaled approximately $12.62 million. This progress provides us with the confidence to confirm our guidance for 2004. We continue to expect revenue between $60-63 million and EBITDA of $10-11 million."
Highlights for the second quarter of 2004 included the following achievements:

-- Awarded a contract valued initially at $400,000 for an image
capture and booking system for Jefferson County, Alabama, the
state`s largest county

-- Awarded a contract with the corrections agency in a major
metropolitan area combining image capture and booking
solutions

Financial highlights for the second quarter of 2004 included:

-- Record revenues of $16.28 million

-- Gross margin improvement to 31% from 22% in second quarter of
2003 and 28% in first quarter of 2004

-- Generated positive cash flow during the quarter; posted
operating income of $231,000 versus operating loss of $1.15
million in same quarter last year and operating loss of $1.24
million in first quarter of 2004

-- Generated EBITDA of $3.14 million, compared to $700,000 in
same quarter last year

-- Backlog essentially flat at $171 million, compared to $176
million last quarter; backlog will be reduced $19.7 million in
the third quarter as a result of the settlement with Georgia
Also during the quarter, the Company announced the filing of a registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission for the sale by the Company of 7.2 million shares of its common stock, along with 300,000 shares of stock being sold by certain shareholders, in an underwritten public offering.
Total operating expenses for the second quarter of 2004 totaled $4.74 million, flat with the prior quarter this year, but up from $3.11 million in the comparable quarter last year, reflecting higher expenses following the acquisitions of ZN and TDT, and legal costs from the litigation in Georgia. Sales and marketing expenses were $1.58 million, research and development totaled $942,000, and general and administrative expenses were $2.22 million. Total operating expenses in the same quarter last year included $1.14 million in sales and marketing costs, $937,000 in research and development and $1.03 million in general and administrative costs.
On July 19, 2004, Fargo Electronics, Inc. filed an action in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia against Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. and TDT alleging that the Toppan CP400 printers being supplied by TDT for the U.S. Department of Defense CAC program infringe certain patents owned by Fargo. Viisage is currently evaluating the claims in the lawsuit and intends to vigorously defend this action. To date, the Company has received purchase orders for $10.2 million of Toppan CP400 printers for the CAC program which are expected to be delivered prior to the end of the first quarter of 2005.
Six Months Results
For the first six months of 2004, revenues totaled a record $28.54 million, an increase of 68% from $16.94 million for the first half of 2003. The net loss for the first half of 2004 was $1.95 million, or $0.06 per basic and diluted share, compared to a net loss in the 2003 period of $3.74 million, or $0.18 per basic and diluted share, which excludes the impact of the one-time charge of $12.13 million or $0.60 per share that the company recorded in connection with its change in accounting principle. Including that charge, the net loss for the first half of 2003 was $15.87 million, or $0.78 per basic and diluted share.
EBITDA
Viisage reports EBITDA as a financial performance measure and as a forecast of future performance. The Company calculates EBITDA by adding back to net earnings interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization. EBITDA is provided to investors as an additional performance gauge to results provided in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (known as "GAAP"). Viisage`s EBITDA should not be considered in isolation or as a substitute for comparable measures calculated and presented in accordance with GAAP. Viisage recently completed the acquisitions of ZN and TDT. While these acquisitions are expected to have a positive impact on Viisage`s EBITDA for 2004, they also result in Viisage incurring significant non-cash charges for amortization of intangible assets that adversely affect Viisage`s net income in 2004. Viisage believes that using EBITDA as a performance measure, together with operating income (loss) and net income (loss), will help investors better understand Viisage`s underlying financial performance and ability to generate cash flow from operations. Den Amerikanern scheint das Abkommen mit Siemens nichts zu bedeuten.

Im Gegenteil:

Nachdem die Aktie gestern vorbörslich auf 7,40 USD sprang,
notiert sie 24 Stunden später schon 15,8 % niedriger bei 6,229 USD, was etwa 4,98 € entspricht.

Die Aktie ist vor dem Hintergrund der Terrorwarnungen sprunghaft gestiegen. Nachdem sich nun herausstellt, daß die in Pakistan gefundenen Hinweise schon 3-4 Jahre alt sind, normalisiert sich die Stimmung und die Viisage-Aktie fällt wieder zurück.

Wann sollte an wieder einsteigen? Meinungen?

Nach einem schnellen Verkauf zu 5,92 € hatte ich geglaubt,
mit einem Limit von 4,89 € günstig wieder einsteigen zu können.

Leider hatte ich die Rechnung ohne den Wirt gemacht; denn von der Kapitalerhöhung hatte ich zu spät erfahren.
So ist das, wenn man sich für 1-2 Tage mal etwas privates
vornimmt.

In Frankfurt schloß die Aktie heute bei 4,43 €.

Ich hoffe doch, daß damit erst einmal ein Boden gefunden ist, obwohl ich mir bei der augenblicklichen Börsentendenz
in Amerika gar nicht sicher bin.

Trotzdem bin ich der Überzeugung, daß man sich bei den momentanen Diskussionen über drohende Terroranschläge einige Anti-Terror-Aktien ins Depot legen sollte, wie in diesem Thread bereits diskutiert, und dazu gehört vor allem
Viisage.

Von daher könnte die Sache schneller über die Bühne gehen als von mancheinem befürchtet.

Analog zum negativen Trend der US-Börsen kommt wohl auch Viisage unter die Räder.
Das Plunge Protection Team hat auch schon mal besser funktioniert.



Wenn plötzlich negative Meldungen zur Terrorszene kommen, was wir nicht hoffen wollen, ist es zu spät, bei Viisage
zu "Panik-Kursen" einzusteigen. Deshalb halte ich es für richtig, zu jetzigen Kursen eine kleine Position zu kaufen.
Das gilt auch für andere Anti-Terror-Aktien wie Cepheid, die kürzlich ebenfalls positive Zahlen vermelden konnten.

Hinterher ist man dann immer schlauer. Aber wir diskutieren ja hier mit unterschiedlichen Standpunkten, um zu einer Meinung zu kommen.

Es ist natürlich Dein gutes Recht, gelegentlich darauf hinzuweisen, daß Du alles schon vorher gewußt hast.

BILLERICA, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 21, 2004-- Viisage (Nasdaq: VISG - News), a leading provider of advanced technology identity solutions, today announced a series of four state contract awards within the drivers` license market that serve to broaden the Company`s leadership position in face recognition and identity documents solutions. Viisage provides secure identification documents in 15 U.S. states, eight of which have adopted Viisage`s state-of-the-art face recognition capabilities to aid in identifying people and enhancing their identity theft and fraud protection programs.

Leading the latest round of wins is the state of Wisconsin Division of Motor Vehicles, which has selected Viisage for a five-year, competitively bid contract valued at $7 million to provide secure digital drivers` licenses. The extended relationship includes optional provisions for a range of Viisage`s identity solutions offerings over the life of the contract. The Maryland Department of Motor Vehicles, through Hewlett-Packard, has also chosen to extend its relationship with Viisage by awarding the Company a two-year contract, valued at $2 million, to continue the production of the state`s secure driver`s licenses and IDs.

Two additional states that wish to remain unnamed for security purposes, have awarded Viisage separate contracts totaling $1.91 million to augment their identity theft and fraud protection initiatives by implementing Viisage`s face recognition technology. The technology is being integrated as part of statewide programs to help protect residents against identity crimes and threats by ensuring each driver`s license is granted only to the rightful owner.

Viisage wurde heute in der 3sat-Börse empfohlen, zusammen mit Identix und Secunet.

Allerdings hätten die Aktien schon eine sehr hohe Bewertung. Außerdem könnte es noch lange dauern, bis Flughäfen, Bahn etc. auf ein Erkenungssystem über die Iris
umstellen würden.

Und warum empfehlen die dann die Aktien wenn sie schon eine hohe Bewertung haben und es noch lange dauern könnte bis sich in puncto Iris was tut?
Hab den Bericht leider nicht gesehen.

Die sind durchaus überzeugt, daß sich in Sachen "Iris" etwas tut. Für den langfristigen Anleger also durchaus interessant.

Da die 3 Aktien schon hoch bewertet sind, muß man also nicht unbedingt auf den fahrenden Zug aufspringen, sondern kann auf Rücksetzer warten wie z.B. kürzlich bei Viisage geschehen.

So habe ich das verstanden. Im übrigen werden die Kurse von Viisage und Identix ja nicht in D gemacht im Gegensatz zu Secunet.

Für Trader sieht die Sache wieder anders aus. Da ist die 3sat-Börse immer für einen Kurssprung gut, jedenfalls kurzfristig für Secunet.

Viisage kann Breakeven erreichen

Der Sicherheitstechnik-Softwarespezialist Viisage (Nachrichten) hat im dritten Quartal 2004 nach einem Verlust von $389.000 bzw 2 Cents je Aktie einen Gewinn von $198.00 bzw den Breakeven erreicht. Die Erlöse sind von $10,1 Mio auf $19 Mio stark gestiegen. Wie das Unternehmen am Montag nach Börsenschluss weiter mitteilte werden die Erlösschätzungen für das Gesamtjahr von ursprünglich $60 Mio-$63 Mio auf $66 Mio-$68 Mio erhöht.

Intelli-Check Gets Viisage Order for ID-Verification Technology


WOODBURY, N.Y. (AP) -- Intelli-Check Inc. said Monday that Viisage Technology Inc., a maker of identification products, is licensing its system for analyzing bar code information for an undisclosed sum to fill a government order.
Intelli-Check shares rose 23 cents, or 4.8 percent, to $5.04 in afternoon trading on the American Stock Exchange. Shares of Billerica, Mass.-based Viisage slipped 13 cents, or 1.6 percent, to $7.92 on the Nasdaq.

The technology, known as ID-Check, quickly reads, analyzes and verifies encoded data in magnetic stripes or barcodes on identification cards, such as driver licenses or military IDs. The company said Viisage is licensing 185 systems for a recent government order, but did not provide further details in a press release.

Intelli-Check said it has booked more than $500,000 orders during the fourth quarter, including the order from Viisage. The company posted revenue of $1.2 million for 2003.

Item 1.01. Entry into a Material Definitive Agreement.
On December 14, 2004, Viisage Technology, Inc. ("Viisage") entered into a Loan and Security Agreement (the "Loan Agreement") by and among Viisage, Citizens Bank of Massachusetts and the following wholly-owned subsidiaries of Viisage:
Imaging Automation, Inc., Trans Digital Technologies Corporation and Biometrica Systems, Inc. The Loan Agreement permits Viisage to borrow up to $25,000,000, subject to certain financial covenants which may restrict the amounts borrowed. Any amounts borrowed under the Loan Agreement bear interest at the rate of the Bank`s prime rate minus 0.25% or the London Interbank Offered Rate (LIBOR) plus 2.5%, at Viisage`s option, and must be repaid on or before May 30, 2007. Currently, there are no borrowings outstanding under the Loan Agreement.

In accordance with the Loan Agreement, borrowings are secured by the inventory, receivables, equipment and other business assets (excluding intellectual property) of Viisage and its subsidiaries. Viisage is required to maintain the following financial covenants under the Loan Agreement:

• The ratio of Viisage`s cash, cash equivalents and billed accounts receivable to the sum of its current liabilities plus outstanding bank loans and letters of credit may not be less than 1.50:1.0 at the end of any fiscal quarter, commencing December 31, 2004;

• The ratio of Viisage`s cash, cash equivalents and billed accounts receivable to the sum of its adjusted current liabilities (as defined in the Loan Agreement) plus outstanding bank loans and letters of credit may not be less than 1.0:1.0 at the end of any fiscal quarter, commencing December 31, 2004;

• Viisage`s earnings before taxes, interest and depreciation and amortization ("EBITDA") may not be less than $2,500,000 for the fiscal quarters ending December 31, 2004 and March 27, 2005, nor less than $2,750,000 for the fiscal quarters ending June 26, 2005 and September 25, 2005, nor less than $3,000,000 for the fiscal quarter ending December 31, 2005 or any fiscal quarter thereafter;

• The ratio of Viisage`s total indebtedness (as defined in the Loan Agreement) to its EBITDA may not be more than: 2.50:1.0 for the trailing twelve month periods ending December 31, 2004, March 27, 2005, June 26, 2005 and September 25, 2005, nor more than 2.0:1.0 for the trailing twelve month period ending on each fiscal quarter commencing December 31, 2005; and

• The ratio of Viisage`s cash flow to its fixed charges may not be less than 1.5:1.0 for the trailing twelve-month period ending on the last day of any fiscal quarter commencing December 31, 2004.

The terms of the Loan Agreement, among other things, limit the ability of Viisage and its subsidiaries to (i) incur, assume or guarantee additional indebtedness, (ii) pay dividends or repurchase capital stock, (iii) incur liens upon the collateral pledged to the bank, (iv) sell or otherwise dispose of assets, including capital stock of subsidiaries, (v) merge, consolidate, sell or otherwise dispose of substantially all Viisage`s assets, (vi) enter into transactions with affiliates, and (vii) make acquisitions other than permitted acquisitions (as defined in the Loan Agreement). These covenants are subject to a number of important exceptions and qualifications. The Loan Agreement provides for customary events of default which include (subject in certain cases to customary grace and cure periods), among others: nonpayment, breach of covenants or other

agreements in the Loan Agreement, payment defaults or acceleration of other indebtedness, a failure to pay certain judgments and certain events of bankruptcy, insolvency or reorganization. Generally, if an event of default occurs, the bank may declare all outstanding indebtedness under the Loan Agreement to be due and payable.

Item 1.02. Termination of a Material Definitive Agreement.
On December 16, 2004, Viisage repaid all obligations outstanding under the Third Amended and Restated Loan Agreement dated February 27, 2004 between Viisage and Commerce Bank & Trust Co. Principal and interest then outstanding of approximately $7.7 million, plus prepayment penalties of approximately $217,000, was repaid with cash on hand. In connection with this repayment, Commerce Bank & Trust Co. released its security interests in Viisage`s assets.
