Soccer-Euro-Italians point finger at Swedes and Danes after draw

LISBON, June 22 (Reuters) - Italians pointed an accusing finger at Sweden and Denmark on Tuesday after the Nordic neighbours fought out a 2-2 draw which sent Italy spinning out of Euro 2004.

Italian soccer president Franco Carraro sensed that Italy had been victims of a conspiracy.

"There is no doubt that the way the Denmark-Sweden game developed shows that the two teams were aiming for a draw. Of course, proof of that is hard to find," Carraro told Italian television.

His views were echoed by goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

"Someone should be ashamed and it is not us. I`m very bitter, I really didn`t believe (this would happen) with two peoples who are proud of their spirit of fair play," said the Italian goalkeeper.

The 2-2 result between Denmark and Sweden ensured Italy`s exit from the tournament despite their 2-1 win over Bulgaria. The high-scoring draw allowed both Sweden and Denmark to reach the last eight in terms of goals scored.

"When you talk for days about a result, a 2-2 result not just a draw, and then it comes out like this - well I`m very surprised," said Buffon.

"All those who talk about fair play and sporting values should open their eyes."



ITALY`S SCAPEGOATS

The soccer-mad Italians have a habit of finding scapegoats when they are knocked out of major soccer tournaments.

Much of the blame for their premature exit from the 2002 World Cup was laid at the door of Ecudorean referee, Byron Moreno, accused of favouring the host nation as Italy went down to a defeat by South Korea.

Italian coach Giovanni Trapattoni said he did not believe there had been collusion between the Swedes and the Danes. Asked whether he would consult European soccer`s governing body over the result, Trapattoni said: "Absolutely not".

Midfielder Simone Perrotta was also cautious with his words.

"There is a risk that in this bitterness you can say something you might regret," he said.

But defender Massimo Oddo said: "We leave this tournament with a bitter taste in our mouths".

Denmark coach Morten Olsen refused to discuss any possible collusion between the teams which he called a "ridiculous" idea.

"Anyone who saw the game knows that no one tried to go for that result," Olsen said reporters.

Most disappointed Italians fans back at home blamed their own players for the exit. However, former Italian striker Gigi Riva added a cynical note about the Danes and Swedes.

"They put on a lovely show," he told Italian broadcaster RAI. "Every time the Danes scored, they showed great enthusiasm. Then, however, they allowed the Swedes to equalise.

Nach der EM-Blamage müssen sich die Italiener bei der Rückkehr in die Heimat auf Schimpf und Schande gefasst machen. Auf dem Posten des Nationaltrainers ist ein Wechsel fällig. Trapattoni ist nach dem Achtelfinal-Aus bei der WM vor zwei Jahren und dem jetzigen Ausscheiden gescheitert. Designierter Nachfolger ist Marcello Lippi, der seinen Vertrag bei Juventus Turin bereits aufgelöst hat

Il fantasma si materializza. Il tanto temuto 2-2 tra Svezia e Danimarca, il cui spettro era stato agitato alla vigilia da stampa e giocatori azzurri, é diventato realtà. L`Italia, vittoriosa per 2-1 contro la Bulgaria, esce dagli Europei proprio per il risultato maturato nel derby scandinavo. Il goal dello svedese Jonsonn allo scadere elimina la nostra Nazionale. Inutile la sofferta vittoria contro la Bulgaria, ottenuta tra atroci difficoltà: il goal di Cassano al 94` é solo un amaro contentino. Casa Azzurri cambia ordine, gli azzurri vanno a casa.

Piove allo stadio Afonso Henriques di Guimaraes. Ampiamente confermate le indiscrezioni della vigilia: Corradi al centro dell`attacco, Fiore al posto di Gattuso e Materazzi in difesa. Inizio piuttosto blando anche per le condizioni del campo, reso un po` scivoloso dalla pioggia battente. L`Italia guadagna metri di campo, ma i bulgari paiono tutt`altro che arrendevoli. Al 14`, prima clamorosa occasione per gli azzurri: Cassano si invola sulla destra, lascia partire un cross su cui Fiore si produce in una spettacolare sforbiciata. Il portiere Zdravkov respinge proprio sui piedi di Del Piero che fallisce il tap in vincente. Si intensificano la pioggia e la pressione azzurra, ma la manovra é decisamente meno fluida rispetto al match con la Svezia. Si rivedono i lanci lunghi dalla trequarti facile preda della lenta difesa bulgara. Si infiamma la partita intorno al 25`: prima é Corradi, tutto solo in area, a provare la conclusione: destro contrato da un difensore. Subito dopo, sinistro secco di Petrov lanciato in velocità: Buffon devia in angolo. Chance per Cassano alla mezz`ora: il barese, servito di testa da Corradi, tenta il tocco di fino, palla che sibila alla destra di Zdravkov. Ultimi minuti favorevoli ai bulgari che prendono coraggio e mettono in grande imbarazzo gli azzurri. Al 44` un episodio forse decisivo: l`arbitro Ivanov assegna il rigore alla Bulgaria per un dubbio fallo di Materazzi su Petrov. Lo stesso centrocampista trasforma con freddezza: Bulgaria avanti 1-0. Finisce così il primo tempo con gli azzurri a un passo dall`eliminazione. Inizio di ripresa furibondo degli azzurri: al 47` grande iniziativa di Zambrotta a sinistra, lo juventino serve un gran pallone per Cassano. Il piatto destro del barese si stampa sulla traversa, palla di nuovo in campo e Perrotta mette in rete. Arriva la notizia del pareggio svedese: per passare servono altri due goal. Al 53` entra Vieri: é comunque un`altra Italia, più aggressiva e concentrata. Il problema é il solito: troppe le palle goal sprecate così come le energie. Alla mezz`ora l`arbitro Ivanov non concede un rigore agli azzurri pe run netto fallo di Lazarov su Cassano. Gli ultimi minuti sono uno stillicidio di sofferenza: Buffon vola a deviare una punizione di Berbatov all`84`, tra gli azzurri provano un po` tutti ma senza successo. Finisce con gli azzurri ormai sulle ginocchia. La frittata si completa con Svezia e Danimarca che pareggiano proprio con il tanto temuto 2-2. Il gran goal di Cassano in pieno recupero regala la vittoria agli azzurri ma accresce i rimpianti: l`Italia é fuori dall`Europeo, giocatori in lacrime. Ai quarti Svezia e Danimarca.

ohne einen deutschen fussballlehrer wärt ihr doch für alle zeiten ein NICHTS geblieben....

deshalb würde ich mich als vermeintlicher grieche hier doch lieber etwas bedeckt mit aussagen über den deutschen fussball halten......
