Das Unternehmen hat auch aus Indien sehr positives Feedback erhalten, da ein
Import des Green Fuels nach Indien eine kostengünstige Alternative zu
importiertem Öl und Gas darstellen könnte und die Nutzung des Green Fuels
wesentlich umweltfreundlicher ist als die Nutzung hochaschiger indischer
Bitumen-Kohle. Silverado verhandelt derzeit mit diversen Organisationen um im
Staate Gujarat eine Finanzierung für ein 5 bis 10 MW-Kraftwerk, welches Green
Fuel nutzen kann, zu ermöglichen. Gujarat liegt im westlichen Indien mit über 48

VANCOUVER, BC, and FAIRBANKS, AK, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Silverado Gold Mines Ltd. (OTCBB: SLGLF - News) provides an update on the activities of Silverado Green Fuel Inc., it`s wholly-owned subsidiary, surrounding its Green Fuel Project in Fairbanks, Alaska.
" Over the last several months, we have taken important steps to position our Green Fuel Project to attract interest from the government, international organizations and the private sector," said Garry Anselmo, Silverado`s Chief Executive Officer. " With fuel prices reaching record levels, the demand for alternative sources of energy has never been greater. We have recently seen an increase in the level of interest from the government sector, and believe that our Project offers a low-cost, non-hazardous alternative to petroleum derived fuels used in oil-designed boilers." The company is presently working to acquire funding for the demonstration phase of the project, which is necessary in order to manufacture large enough quantities of the fuel for commercial combustion tests, which are for the benefit of potential end users. Those utility operators who are able to do simple boiler conversion will quickly understand the economics of a long-term non-OPEC source of energy. Since manufacturing costs are fixed, utility providers will be able to rely on a domestic source of energy. Our studies of a commercial plant indicate that the product can be manufactured at about $14.00 per barrel BOE (Barrel of Oil Equivalent). Turning to the environmental benefits, the fuel is non-toxic. " It is water and coal dust. If spilled, it quickly breaks down to the water and coal components. That aspect is fully as important as the economics of the fuel when one recalls the costs to everyone that resulted from the Exxon Valdez spill and other spills along the California coast and throughout the world." The fuel will not replace oil, but will lessen the dependence on OPEC supplies.

Alaska`s Beluga coal-field about 60 miles southwest of Anchorage, is believed to be the world`s largest low sulfur coal-field located on year-round open tidewater with over 2 billion tons of proven reserves. The Beluga Field is arguably the most likely site for the world`s first one million ton per year or larger commercial low-rank coal-water fuel plant. The application of hydrothermal treatment to Beluga coal has already been demonstrated at a pilot plant scale showing that this coal can be converted into premium, stable liquid fuel.

The site where Silverado`s Green Fuel demonstration plant can be built most rapidly and cost effectively is Silverado`s 300 ton per day idled gold recovery plant at its Grant Mine near Fairbanks, Alaska. The Grant Mill, situated on the Grant Mine, currently contains much of the necessary equipment and ample space in the buildings to accommodate the remaining equipment. The site has been cleaned and prepared and is now ready for re-construction into the fuel plant. Silverado has already assembled sales and engineering teams to develop the demonstration project, establish Silverado`s Green Fuel production and utilization technology and market the fuel. " We believe that our Project offers a low-cost, non-hazardous alternative to petroleum derived fuels used in oil-designed boilers, and further, that the technology is capable of addressing large-market opportunities in the Pacific Rim, as well as emerging markets in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and China."

We first profiled Silverado Gold Mines, Inc. in April of this year (See Silverado Gold Mines Ltd., Part I – Thar’s Coal in Them Thar Hills; and Part II – Fuels Gold). Silverado says it plans to produce and market a “low-cost, environmentally friendly alternative to imported oil” called “Low-Rank Coal Water Fuel” (LRCWF). The Company maintains that it has been working with the United States Government, the State of Alaska, and several Pacific Rim countries to finance and build facilities for the production of LRCWF. It has been making such claims since at least August 2000. Most recently, on March 26th, Silverado said that it expected to announce shortly a joint venture with the government of an unidentified South East Asian country which would finance the $100 million cost of the Company’s “first low rank coal plant in Southeast Asia.” So far, we have seen no such announcement.

Silverado characterizes itself as part of the solution to the energy crisis – and claims political support for its efforts. On April 27th the Company issued a press release declaring that “[f]aced with mounting electrical brownouts and blackouts, particularly in California, the alternative energy source for power plants and other applications developed by Silverado Gold Mines Ltd. is receiving growing support from federal government authorities.” The Company cited a letter from Alaskan Congressman Don Young who, Silverado says, “offered his support for the Company`s initiative to have its Alaskan mill refitted for the production of the new fuel oil substitute, based on the low-rank, coal-water fuel process.” The Company did not include the text of Congressman Young’s letter or provide any further details of that “support.”

Earlier, the Company had announced receipt of a letter from Alaska’s Senator Frank Murkowski endorsing its efforts to develop an alternative fuel source. So how could the Company follow up on announcements invoking the names of a Senator and a Congressman? With the President of course. On May 29th, Silverado issued a press release declaring that President George W. Bush’s endorsement of clean coal technology “can only speed its development to meet increasing electrical demand and to prevent continuing power shortages in the United States.”

The Company welcomed the President’s proposal for $2 billion “to be set aside for research into clean coal technology.” Silverado’s President Gary Anselmo noted that the Company had already made application for a $16 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. What is the likelihood that those funds will be forthcoming? The U.S. Department of Energy recently received proposals from twenty four companies – including Silverado – who are seeking funding for clean coal technology projects. Those proposals ask the federal government for a total of $251 million – the Department of Energy is offering just $95 million at present. So not all of the projects will receive these government funds, or at least not all of the funding they seek.

And there’s one more glitch – a major one. The Department of Energy is requiring all proposers to at least match the federal share of the project funding. That means Silverado would have to put up $16 million. As of February 28, 2001, the Company had $1,058 in cash, and no financing appeared to be on the immediate horizon. Its auditors were sufficiently concerned to express doubt about the Company’s ability to continue as a going concern.

Investors might want to review those financial statements. Even if the politicians don’t have the time.
