Mal schauen was heute in NY passiert.
Habe nochmal den Q3 durchgelesen
-> Sehr hohe Investitionen ca 550Mio
->Umsatzrückgang, Gewinnrückgang.

2005 - An Outstanding Year, But Not a Unique One
The past year was marked by many terrible calamities. Not only were the inhabitants distracted by political and social disturbances, but the earth it-self was rent and shaken and the sea roused to destructive wrath by hurri-canes and typhoons". An apt descrip-tion of 2005, but written in 1906, the year of the San Francisco earthquake; a typhoon in Hong Kong; and a major hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico.
A Very Good Year
But for shipping the similarity ends there. The 1906 market was "some-what less unsatisfactory” but for bulk shipping 2005 can only be described as “another outstanding year". Al-though some earnings and prices were down on 2004 (see table) it was still one of the most profitable years in the industry`s history.
Tankers Still Stepping On the Gas
Tanker rates were 13.6% down, aver-aging $38,306/day, with the big ships down 30% and smaller tankers steady thanks to a firm autumn triggered by the US hurricanes. VLCCs averaged $60,000/day and Suezmaxes $54,000/day, both highly profitable. But the averages conceal volatile earnings and sentiment. VLCC rates started the year at $45,000/day, but by August had slipped to $30,000/ day. Sentiment took a knock, but the summer pessimism was forgotten as rates recovered strongly in the last quarter. Second-hand prices in-creased 21% in 2005, with products tankers in particular demand.
Bulkers More Bearish
Initially bulkers tracked tankers, but their autumn recovery fizzled out, leaving average earnings 22% down and sentiment even lower. Capesize earnings opened at $75,000/day, slumped to $30,000/day in July; re-covered to $50,000/day in October and closed at $38,000/day. Still a his-torically firm rate, and enough to ser-vice the capital cost of modern ton-nage, but weak year-end rates are tra-ditionally an ominous sign. With Chi-nese steel to worry about, prices fell 5% in the year.
Supple Supply
Perhaps the most remarkable feature of the year was that trade growth soaked up such an enormous amount of bulk tonnage. The tanker and bulk carrier fleets both grew by seven per cent. That is the highest bulk carrier fleet growth since 1996 and the high-est tanker growth since the 1970s - by a big margin. So there`s no doubt about it - 2005 was a demand driven market.
The Bottom-line
So there you have it. Another record year in a sequence that is turning into the biggest shipping boom ever. What can we say but - enjoy. Have a nice day.
