Was meint ihr?

Mal sehen, was passieren wird.

      Financial Results

Revenue for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2009 was $47.3 million and GAAP net income was $6.6 million, or $0.24 per diluted share. Non-GAAP net income in the fourth quarter of 2009 was $10.1 million, or $0.38 per diluted share. Non-GAAP adjustments for the fourth quarter of 2009 consisted of the exclusion of $0.8 million in amortization expense for acquired intangibles related to the acquisitions of Zensys Holding Corporation (Zensys), the VXP Group and Blue7 Communications and $2.7 million in non-cash share-based compensation expenses. The reconciliation between GAAP and non-GAAP results for all referenced periods is provided in a table immediately following the GAAP financial tables below.

Revenue for fiscal 2009 was $209.2 million, a decrease of 5% from $221.2 million in the previous year. GAAP net income for fiscal 2009 was $26.4 million, or $0.95 per diluted share, compared to $70.2 million, or $2.46 per diluted share, for fiscal 2008. Non-GAAP net income for fiscal 2009 was $43.7 million, or $1.58 per diluted share, a decrease from $69.9 million, or $2.45 per share, for 2008. Non-GAAP adjustments for fiscal 2009 consisted of the exclusion of $3.0 million in amortization expense for acquired intangibles related to the Zensys, VXP and Blue7 acquisitions, $12.7 million in non-cash share-based compensation expenses and $1.6 million for the VXP acquired in-process development costs.

As of the end of the fourth quarter, Sigma had approximately 26.6 million shares of common stock outstanding and cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities totaling $192.2 million, or $7.24 per share. During the fourth quarter, total cash and investments decreased $5.1 million, principally due to two strategic investments totaling $3.0 million and the purchase of Zensys for cash. Cash generated during the quarter was approximately $13.2 million, principally from a reduction in net inventory and the Company’s continuing profitability.

      Management Comment

“We are pleased to report a slight sequential increase in our revenue for the fourth quarter, which we feel is a sign of stabilizing demand in our primary markets. We are continuing to place every effort on bolstering sales and expanding the scope of our demand generation activities. The IPTV market is showing resiliency to the current economic turmoil and we are confident that it will continue to demonstrate strength throughout this year. We are also pursuing design activity in the cable industry and helping to drive the transition to Tru2way IP cable solutions which we believe will increase our market opportunities. We are also pushing forward with our consumer products agenda by working with a wide range of vendors for Blu-ray player designs, digital media adapter products and UWB-based devices. Additionally, we are excited about our recent acquisition of the Z-Wave® brand home control products and anticipate a growing synergy within the set-top box market,” stated Thinh Tran, chairman and chief executive officer, Sigma Designs.

      Fourth Quarter Highlights

      * Announced and completed the purchase of Zensys, a wireless start-up developing RF transceivers for home control. During its start-up phase, Zensys developed Z-Wave, an RF solution designed to provide manufacturers with an intelligent and interoperable standard that has been incorporated into over 250 household products. The devices are implemented using a family of low-cost, low-power integrated RF transceiver chips embedded with Z-Wave, which establishes a wireless mesh network for all compatible home devices that can be controlled or monitored wirelessly.
      * Demonstrated an extensive range of high definition consumer technology solutions powered by the Sigma’s SoC solutions at CES 2009 in Las Vegas. Solutions included industry-leading technology featured in Blu-ray players with best in class VXP® studio video quality and interactive performance; Tru2way™ DOCSIS 3.0-based set-top boxes for IP-Cable; multiple ultra-wideband (UWB)-based connectivity solutions; and Z-Wave home automation wireless technology showcased at the Z-Wave alliance pavilion.
      * Announced that we will integrate Adobe Flash Lite™ software, Adobe’s Flash Player for mobile phones and devices, into our SoC solutions for the most advanced digital television and web service capabilities in the digital home.
      * Announced that our SMP8634 has been selected by Blusens, a leading provider of home digital entertainment products based in Spain, as the main processing unit in the Blusens “blu:brain” HDTV home entertainment device.

      Sigma Hatches Cunning Designs

      http://www.fool.com/investing/high-growth/2009/03/06/sigma-h…

      Anders Bylund
      March 6, 2009

Don't tell Sigma Designs (Nasdaq: SIGM) that we're in a deep, dark recession. The company hasn't really noticed.

That's a tiny bit of dramatic license, of course. Even this resilient little designer of digital media processors has seen better days. Fourth-quarter sales came in at $47.3 million with $0.24 of GAAP earnings per share. That's far worse than last year's $76.4 million and $1.12 per share.

But Sigma is clearly doing very well, nonetheless. The company remains profitable despite the recession, and there's no need to slow down the innovation that has taken Sigma this far.

It doesn't hurt to be working on very promising technologies when the market takes a dive. Just listen to the opportunities that still lie ahead of these guys:

      * Tru2way cable cards haven't become the industry standard yet, but Sigma is lobbying cable companies like Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) and Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC) to make it so. Your next Sony (NYSE: SNE) big-screen may not even need a set-top box in order to get full digital cable access with every feature in the book.
      * Sigma is big on Blu-ray player technology, and stands to profit immensely as Blu-ray slowly replaces the old DVD lineup.
      * Sigma is also a pioneer in the just-sprouting field of ultra wideband (UWB) video transmission. Think of one media center that can wirelessly send HD video and audio to any TV in your home, such as the similar functionality already found in my Verizon (NYSE: VZ) FiOS media center. This is far from ubiquitous today, but the times, they are a-changin'.

Rivals like Texas Instruments (NYSE: TXN) and STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM) are not standing idly by while Sigma steals the digital media processor market. That's OK. The sector is big enough to let Sigma thrive as a boutique supplier of high-end set-top box brains and video codecs.

In short, Sigma isn't making fat stacks of dollar bills right now, but is raking in enough to get by just fine. In the meantime, the company is hatching cunning plans of world domination that should blossom into renewed growth and torrid cash flows once this recession business is over and done with. Whenever that might be.

Sigma Media Processors Power Celrun IPTV Set-Top Boxes Across Korea

Companies Enter Collaborative Relationship to Develop Next Generation IPTV Set-Top Boxes for the Korean Market

      * Wednesday April 15, 2009, 6:00 am EDT

MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sigma Designs (Nasdaq:SIGM - News), a leader in digital media processing system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for consumer electronics, today announced that Sigma’s highly integrated SMP8654 media processors will be used to power Celrun’s TD-1100 set-top box (STB) which has been selected by telecom provider LG Dacom to be deployed throughout Korea. As part of this collaboration, Sigma’s chips have been integrated into Celrun’s TD-1100 set-top box and will support real-time IPTV streaming along with Video-on-Demand (VOD) services.

“Our selection by LG Dacom to be deployed across Korea was largely due to Sigma’s next-generation system-on-chip, SMP8654, as LG Dacom demanded set-top boxes that are robust and offer technology advanced enough to scale for all IPTV customers in Korea,” said Young Min Kim, CEO at Celrun. “As a longtime partner with Sigma Designs, the company continues to meet our needs in terms of best performance and cost – we look forward to our continued work together.”

“We are committed to helping Celrun provide their customers with best-in-class set-top boxes for the Korean market, where IPTV demand continues to increase significantly,” said Ken Lowe, vice president of strategic marketing at Sigma Designs. “With the increasing demand for IPTV services around the world, set-top box manufacturers continue to turn to Sigma’s industry leading price and performance offerings.”

Celrun’s TD-1100 set-top box, powered by Sigma’s SMP8654 media processors, supports multicasting, video-on-demand (VOD) functionality and digital rights management (DRM) requirements. The solution handles multi-task performance by processing multiple streams of content in tandem at speeds up to 20 Mbps and advanced encryption technology for enhanced copyright protection.

Sigma’s SMP8654: The Next Generation IPTV SoC Solution

Sigma’s SMP8654 media processor integrates a complete complement of next-generation capabilities for a single-chip system-on-chip (SoC) solution with powerful multimedia processing, robust content security system, multiple on-chip CPUs and a full complement of system peripherals. Its combination of on-chip processors and memory controllers yields an impressive 50% increase in overall performance to provide the headroom needed for next generation IPTV service features. At the same time, taking advantage of the latest memory components and integrated peripherals, the SMP8654 can reduce sub-system cost by around 30 percent compared to its predecessor, the industry leading SMP8634.

From a media processing standpoint, the SMP8654 offers a full complement of advanced decoder engines with high definition video decoding, including H.264 (MPEG-4 part 10), Windows Media® Video 9, VC-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 (part 2) and the new AVS standard. High-performance graphics acceleration, multi-standard audio decoding, advanced display processing capabilities and HDMI 1.3 output round out its multimedia core. Powerful content security is ensured through a dedicated secure processor, on-chip flash memory and a range of digital rights management (DRM) engines for high-speed payload decryption. Cable, IPTV Recession Resistant, Says Report
      By Mansha Daswani
      Published: April 22, 2009
DALLAS: U.S. consumers are showing a reluctance to cancel their pay-TV subscriptions amid the recession, according to a Parks Associates report, which predicts that the growth of cable and IPTV VOD services will remain "strong," delivering revenues of more than $11 billion by 2013.

"Currently 37 percent of U.S. digital cable customers use premium VOD regularly, up from 21 percent in late 2004," said Kurt Scherf, the VP and principal analyst at Parks Associates. "The cable companies need to use this type of service to combat challenges from telco/IPTV services, which grew over 110 percent in subscriptions from 2007 to 2008."

Parks Associates recently put out a report noting that the number of people subscribing to TV services worldwide will top 1.4 billion by 2013, with prime-time catch-up services seen as key for platforms in gaining and retaining customers

Blu-ray-Disc: Verkäufe steigen um über 400 Prozent

The Dark Knight: Erfolgreichste Blu-ray-Disc im Q1 2009.

(aln)

Sigma's Z-Wave Technology Reaches New Milestone with IP Interoperability for Home Control over the Internet

Sigma Demonstrates IP-Wave Single Chip Solution That Powers Consumer Products at Networld-Interop 2009

      * On Tuesday May 19, 2009, 12:46 pm EDT

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sigma Designs, Inc. (Nasdaq: SIGM - News), a leader in digital media processing system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for consumer electronics, today announced the IP-Wave single chip solution, which offers complete interoperability between Sigma’s Z-Wave wireless home control and the widespread Internet Protocol (IP) standards. IP-Wave technology is made possible by a single chip that is embedded in home consumer products. Once embedded, it allows home lights, appliances, HVAC systems, entertainment centers and security systems to connect over a Z-Wave wireless mesh network and now also via the Internet, for energy management and home remote control. This game-changing technology will be demonstrated inside home consumer products for the first time in the IPSO (IP for Smart Objects Alliance) Booth #2513 at this week’s Networld-Interop show, taking place in Las Vegas from May 17-21.

“Running an IP stack on the Z-Wave single chip solution is a major stepping stone in the opening of the Z-Wave technology and it further supports the role of Z-Wave’s ecosystem in the digital home,” noted Ken Lowe, vice president of strategic marketing for Sigma Designs. “Like home entertainment networks, it is also imperative that home control networks be able to interface with the Internet. Interoperability between IP and Z-Wave is a crucial step in the process.”

The Internet Protocol (IP) is a protocol used for communicating data across a packet-switched network using the Internet Protocol Suite, referred to as TCP/IP. It is the widespread adoption of this unified protocol that has enabled any computer or consumer device to communicate with any others over the Internet.

By converging Z-Wave and IP, Sigma enables end-to-end home control networks and applications from anywhere on the Internet all the way into sensor networks. It will allow for the use of IP technology and knowledge in new applications directly onto low-cost, low-power devices. As with all previous Z-Wave protocol advances, IP-Wave will remain backwards compatible to existing Z-Wave products while adding compliant IP services to Z-Wave nodes, and will allow for the use of proven Z-Wave device and command classes in IP networks.

There are a number of scenarios for which IP-Wave can be used:

      * Access from the Internet to the home for control of Z-Wave devices
      * Reporting status information from sensors in the home (e.g. energy consumption of specific devices) through the Internet
      * Using TCP/IP as backbone for large commercial control networks to extend Z-Wave networks

While previous Z-Wave/IP demonstrations have been shown in the engineering development platform stages, the demonstrations at this year’s Network-Interop will showcase, for the first-time ever, real home products using Z-wave over IP. The demos will also illustrate how using the Z-wave over IP router technology will allow consumers to combine their existing Z-Wave networks with these new IP-Wave networks for greater flexibility and access. This product demonstration puts Sigma Designs at the forefront of implementing an IP solution into a variety of products and applications empowering consumers to take simple affordable control of the things that matter most to them such as energy management, security and safety in their homes.

Price/Performance Optimized SMP8652 Appeals to Wide Range of Thin Client Applications Including Set-top Boxes and Digital Media Adapters

      * On Monday June 1, 2009, 6:00 am EDT

TAIPAI, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sigma Designs (Nasdaq:SIGM - News), a leader in digital media processing system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for consumer electronics, today announced the availability of its new SMP8652 media processor SoC. The SMP8652 is designed to provide the optimal price/performance configuration for thin client applications, which include IPTV set-top boxes (STBs), digital media adapters (DMAs), and hybrid cable/IP thin clients. Product demonstrations are available the Shangri-La's Far Eastern Plaza Hotel in suite # 3707 at this week’s Computex 2009 Show, located in Taipei, Taiwan from Tuesday, June 2 to Saturday, June 6.

Increasing Demand for Thin Client Solutions

As consumers increase their use of IP streaming for audio/video access, the importance of a thin client architecture becomes more necessary. Starting with IPTV, demand has been sweeping across the globe over the past three years, reaching a level of 16 million deployments in 2008 according to iSuppli. Likewise, digital media adapters which connect to televisions and provide access to PC and Internet-based media have been increasing in popularity due to the explosion in online content. Many cable providers are in the process of migrating to hybrid approaches with IP-based delivery, which result in a server-client architecture for distributing video throughout the home. Thin clients, which focus on user interaction and media access, form the common thread among these trends.

“Thin client architectures are becoming more commonplace today as the world accesses more and more media through IP streaming,” said Ken Lowe, vice president of strategic marketing at Sigma Designs. “Our new SMP8652 represents a price/performance optimized solution for thin clients, a market we have been serving for years as the clear leader in IPTV set-top boxes and digital media adapters.”

Sigma’s SMP8652 media processor integrates a complete complement of next-generation capabilities for a single-chip SoC solution with powerful multimedia processing, robust content security system, multiple on-chip CPUs, and a full complement of system peripherals. Its combination of on-chip processors and memory controllers provides the needed headroom for the next generation of client middleware and software stacks. At the same time, establishing a minimal memory footprint using a high-speed 32-bit data path enables implementations with small form factors, lower BOM (bill of materials) costs, and lower power dissipation.

Taking performance to the next level is accomplished by combining significant increases in CPU speed, memory bandwidth, and architectural efficiencies. To start with, the SMP8652 is a multi-core media processor that features a 500 MHz MIPS 24k main CPU that enables crisp user interaction and a wider range of application-based features which enhance “future-proofing” of the platform. A second MIPS processor called the IPU manages interrupt operations and offloads burdensome system tasks, such as portions of the network stack to further optimize main CPU utilization. A third MIPS processor manages all system security functions including decryption and key generation. The SMP8652 also features a new DDR-2 memory controller, which supports double-data-rate memories up to 667 Mbps as well as an improved arbitration engine to maximize the efficiency of accesses. Finally, the SMP8652 maintains software compatibility with the Sigma Multimedia Library to uniquely build on the proven performance and reliability of the earlier generation platforms.

Shares of the company, which makes chips for the IPTV set-top box market and Blu-ray players, rose as much as 7 percent to $13 Thursday morning on Nasdaq. They later pared their gains to trade up 1 percent at $12.24.

"The base business will likely remain volatile and competition looms in the media processor market," RBC Capital Markets analyst Mark Sue, who rates the stock "sector perform," wrote in a note.

"However, our view is that the worst may be over for Sigma," added Sue, raising his price target on the stock to $15 from $13.

On Wednesday, Sigma Designs, which competes with companies such as Broadcom Corp (BRCM.O) and Conexant Systems Inc (CNXT.O), said it expects its target market to experience growth. [ID:nSGE6220KD]

"We anticipate IPTV revenue momentum will continue beyond the April quarter, driven by continued IP sub growth worldwide, along with significant design wins for Sigma," said Robert W. Baird analyst Tristan Gerra, who reiterated an "outperform" rating on the stock.

Collins Stewart analyst John Vinh reiterated a "sell" rating on the company, despite the impressive fourth-quarter results.

There is meaningful downside risk in the second half of 2010 as major carriers including BT Group Plc (BT.L) and AT&T Inc (T.N) transition to Microsoft Corp's (MSFT.O) next-generation Mediaroom IPTV set-top boxes, which will be exclusively Broadcom-based, Vinh said.

Vinh, however, raised his price target on the stock to $9 from $8.

Separately, UBS raised its price target on the stock to $13 from $11 and maintained a "neutral" rating. (Reporting by Manasi Phadke in Bangalore; Editing by Aradhana Aravindan)

nein, Du bist nicht der Letzte hier. ;)

Verliebt hin, pleite her, ... bin schon etwas enttäuscht, daß uns unser 'Sigma-Analyst der Herzen', der gute amorphis, hier so alleine läßt, während z.B. Conexant Systems Inc., WKN A0Q5J6 (blaue Linie) in abenteuerlicher Weise an SIGMA (schwarze Linie) vorbeizieht!
