HIV compound SPD754 out-licensed to anti-infectives specialist, Avexa Ltd Basingstoke, UK and Philadelphia, PA, US - 17 January 2005 - Shire Pharmaceuticals Group plc (LSE: SHP, NASDAQ: SHPGY, TSX: SHQ) announced today that it has out-licensed its HIV compound, SPD754, to Avexa Limited (Nachrichten), a publicly-listed Australian specialty anti-infectives company. This is one of the final steps in Shire`s divestment program - designed to ensure focus on later stage pipeline investment in its core therapeutic areas of CNS, gastrointestinal and renal diseases. In the last 12 months, Shire has had six projects in its core areas approved by regulators. Avexa will take on full responsibility for the worldwide development of SPD754 in accordance with an agreed development plan. SPD754 is currently in Phase II with an anticipated launch target of 2009. Avexa has the right to commercialize SPD754 throughout the world, excluding North America (USA and Canada), where Shire retains the right to commercialize the product. An undisclosed reciprocal royalty will be payable. Included in the deal and subject to subsequent satisfaction of certain conditions , Shire will take a AUD$2 million equity position in Avexa, subject to Avexa shareholder approval, and will also have an option to acquire four million more shares following the successful completion of the Phase IIb trial. NRTis represent the major class of HIV therapeutics and the drugs of first choice in the treatment of HIV. Currently reverse transcriptase inhibitors represent over 50% of the global sales of HIV drugs which in 2004 was in excess of US$6 billion. SPD754 has been shown to selectively inhibit the HIV replication enzyme reverse transcriptase and has successfully completed a Phase IIa trial. Importantly SPD754 is under Investigational New Drug (IND) status and has received fast-track approval from the FDA in the USA helping to speed development. Avexa is preparing SPD754 to enter a Phase IIb trial designed to demonstrate its efficacy in HIV-infected patients that have demonstrated resistance to therapy with 3TC (Lamivudine), a first line HIV therapy. The Phase IIb trial will examine two different doses of SPD754 and compare the drug to 3TC. This trial will be conducted in Australia, with the first patient expected to be enrolled by the middle of this year and results due in the first quarter of 2006. Shire has previously conducted a Phase IIa trial with SPD754 in 63 HIV-infected patients who had not had prior exposure to HIV drugs. In this trial, SPD754 showed a statistically significant, greater than 1.4 log decrease in viral load. A decrease in viral load is one of the primary measures used to benchmark the effectiveness of HIV drugs and a 1.4 log decrease is similar or greater than that achieved by other NRTis currently being sold on the market demonstrating the potential of SPD754 in the treatment of HIV. A successful outcome to this trial will assist Avexa in positioning SPD754 as a second line NRTi therapy in the treatment of HIV, meaning that patients that are no longer experiencing direct clinical benefit from 3TC therapy can be switched to SPD754 as an ongoing HIV treatment alternative. Avexa believes that there is a need for new drugs that will treat the resistant virus selected during 3TC therapy. 3TC as either a stand-alone or combination drug generates close to US$1 billion in global sales annually. Other NRTi drugs on the market in this class include FTC (emtricitabine), Tenofovir and the combination (emtricitabine and Tenofovir) Truvada. Das Investmenthaus Wilson hat die australische Biotech-Company AVEXA zuletzt genau unter die Lupe genommen und dem Titel bei einem aktuellen Kurs von AUD 0.21 eine klare Kaufempfehlung und Kursziel AUD 0.62 mit auf den Weg gegeben! Der Reihe nach:

Das Unternehmen hat von SHIRE PHARMA den experimentellen HIV-Wirkstoff SPD754 lizenziert. Das Pharma-Unternehmen wird sich im Gegenzug mit 2 Mio. Aktien an AVEXA beteiligen mit der Option auf den Erwerb von weiteren 4 Mio. Aktien, sollten die anstehenden Studien erfolgreich abgeschlossen werden. Das Medikament konzentriert sich auf die Behandlung von Patienten, deren HI-Virus eine mutierte Form aufweist und damit auf einen absoluten Nischenmarkt. Die Phase II-Testreihen wurden bereits erfolgreich abgeschlossen, die Phase IIb- und III-Tests sollen in Kürze gestartet werden. Das Risiko ist dabei klar begrenzt, denn:



AVEXA hat sich mit diesem Deal zu keinerlei Vorab- oder Meilenstein-Zahlungen verpflichtet! Da dürfte das Management der Australier sein ganzes Verhandlungsgeschick aufgeboten haben, denn für die Lizenzierung eines Medikaments in dieser Phase der Entwicklung ist eine Vorabzahlung von rund USD 50 Mio. fast schon obligatorisch. Nun will AVEXA in der zweiten Jahreshälfte 2005 die Phase IIb-Studien angehen, deren Ergebnisse bereits für Ende des Jahres erwartet werden. Im kommenden Jahr könnten dann bereits die auf 12 Monate ausgelegten Testreihen der Phase III beginnen, spätestens 2009 soll SPD754 dann auf den Markt kommen. Das Bemerkenswerte dabei:



Sämtliche der 29 HIV-Präparate, die seit 1989 in die Phase III eingetreten sind, wurden von der FDA letztendlich auch zugelassen! Da könnte die kleine Biotech-Schmiede also einen Schatz in den Händen halten, der den Aktienkurs in den kommenden Jahren durch die Decke gehen lässt: Analysten rechnen mit einem Umsatzpotenzial von bis zu USD 350 Mio.! Mit einem sehr hohen Risi-koabschlag von 25% abdiskontiert liegt der Fair-Value von AVEXA derzeit bei AUD 61 Mio.! Die Market-Cap liegt momentan aber lediglich bei AUD 17 Mio.! Bei einem derart guten Chancen/Risiko-Verhältnis legen Sie sich diesen potenziellen 200%-Kracher mit einigen Stücken schleunigst ins Depot! (WKN A0B7TC)

da wurde wieder einmal SL ausgelöst, aber genauso schnell wird es sich garantiert wieder erholen.

denn die empfehlung spricht für sich und ich glaube, das das was die machen hat zukunft.

das war doch klar, das mit einer kurskorrektur auf kurz

oder lang zu rechnen ist. und ist erst mal SL ausgelöst,

geht es natürlich schnell runter.

es kann ja nicht jeden tag 15% hoch gehen. das wäre ja zu

einfach. aber ich bin überzeugt, das es weiter hochgehen

wird. sind erst mal gute nachrichten da, und es spricht

sich rum, läuft das ding. gut ding will weile haben!

wenn man zum Australischen Dollar den heutigen kurs bei uns

vergleicht, wurde sicherlich die kurskorrektur daraufhin

vorgenommen und dadurch Stopp-Loss Welle ausgelöst. Ich

glaub noch nicht mal das da einer groß Kasse gemacht hat.

Hier hört man ja gar nichts mehr. Ist denn keiner mehr investiert?

Sie sackt ja jeden Tag weiter ab. Na gut dann verschenke ich sie halt in ein paar Wochen mit 99% Verlust.

Global Biotech Investing rät bei Avexa (WKN A0B7TC) zum Einstieg. Das Investmenthaus Wilson HTM hat ein Kursziel von 0,62 Australischen Dollar ausgegeben. Bei einem Cashbestand von 21 Millionen Dollar wird das Unternehmen aktuell nur mit 20 Millionen Dollar an der Börse bewertet: Die "AVX754"-Technologie gegen AIDS gibt es somit geschenkt. Die Technologie hat bereits die Phase-II-Tests erfolgreich absolviert und belegt, dass der "HIV-Level" ohne jede Nebenwirkung deutlich gesenkt wurde. Experten schätzen die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass "AVX754" die anstehenden Phase-IIb-Tests erfolgreich bestehen wird, auf mehr als 80 Prozent. Analysten glauben, dass "AVX754" zur Standard-Behandlung gegen AIDS zählen wird. Nun sei es nämlich absehbar, dass "AVX754" die Lebensdauer um etwa fünf Jahre verlängert und die Lebensqualität deutlich steigert. Global Biotech Investing sieht keine Schwierigkeiten bei der Suche nach einem Vermarktungspartner von "AVX754", zumal Avexa durch die Inlizenznahme von "SPD754" schon mit dem Pharmakonzern Shire verbandelt ist.
