VANCOUVER -(Dow Jones)- Blue Pearl Mining Ltd. (BLE.T) will focus on paying down debt and expanding its molybdenum business organically, once it completes the acquisition of rival Thompson Creek Metals, Chairman and Chief Executive Ian McDonald told Dow Jones Newswires Tuesday.
"We don\'t need to make another acquisition; with our deposit and existing assets, we can grow organically," he said.
Blue Pearl - a company with a market capitalization of C$223 million - announced earlier Tuesday it would buy Thompson Creek for US$575 million - plus contingent payments of as much as US$125 million, depending on the future price of molybdenum.
The tranformational deal pushed Blue Pearl\'s shares as much as 50.3% higher to C$5.89 in early trading.
Molybdenum is an instrumental part of high-grade steel alloys and pipeline steel. It\'s also used by chemical companies and in high-end catalysts.
Once the acquisition is complete, Blue Pearl will be one of the world\'s top five primary molybdenum producers, McDonald said. Key competitors will include: Codelco of Chile, Phelps Dodge Corp. (PD) and Grupo Mexico S.A. (GMEXICO.MXS).
Thompson Creek - a privately held company - runs the Thompson Creek mine and mill in Idaho as well as a refinery in Pennsylvania. The deal also means Blue Pearl will acquire its 75% interest in the Endako open-pit and processing facility in central British Columbia as well as US$150 million in working capital.
Blue Pearl owns the Davidson molybdenum project, near Smithers, B.C., which has a measured and indicated resource of 588 million pounds of molybdenum at 0.10% cut-off. A feasibility study for the project is expected to be finished within the next month or so, with hopes for start-up in early 2008, McDonald said.
Blue Pearl will take on US$450 million in debt to help finance the acquisition. An equity issue is also planned but the particulars haven\'t been finalized. McDonald said the details should be released within the week.
The chief executive said Blue Pearl is anticipating that the price of molybdenum - currently changing hands at around US$29 a pound - could fall by as much as 65% over the next two years or so.
"Why? It\'s conservatism; we\'ve been around too long," he said, noting that molybdenum has traded well below US$10 a pound during the past decade.
Even so, the cyclical market is being driven by the large amount of steel being consumed in the global marketplace, he said, meaning prices could remain buoyant.
If prices do fall, as Blue Pearl expects, then the company\'s US$450 million debt burden could be paid down within four years. However, if prices remain high, that debt load could be gone within 2.5 years, he said.
"The first job is to get a hold of these suite of assets and start paying off the debt at these high (current) prices," he said.
Once the deal is complete, McDonald hopes to tweak the operations at Thompson Creek to make it more efficient.
"Our plan is to not do things better - we\'re not going to be so arrogant to pre-suppose that - but we will do things a little differently," he said.
At the moment, the plant is only run two-thirds of the time. McDonald hopes to get it up-and-running 100% of the time.
McDonald also wants to meld Blue Pearl\'s Davidson asset into the Endako operation, which is about 200 kilometers down the road.
"We expect Davidson to be up and running in just over a year and then we\'ll have three mines in operation," he said. "This is a huge deal for us and we\'ve been working on it for a long time."

ich denke, wenn blue pearl in 2-3 jahren jenseits der 20€ marke notiert, jedem völlig egal ist, ob er bei 2, 3, 3,5, 4 oder 5 rein ist. ich ärger mich jedenfalls nicht bei 2,x bei first majestic eingestiegen zu sein, auch wenn die fast von 0 kam...
klar wird first majestic den selben weg gehen, wenn auch nicht ganz so stürmisch. wenn ich geld bräuchte, würd ich ne menge verkaufen, aber ganz sicher keine 1. majestics

Ich bin auch schon seit 2€ mit dabei und habe heute die ersten 100% voll gemacht. Mir persönlich war es immer egal, ob Frick und andere gepusht haben. Die heutige Meldung war einfach der Hammer.
Aber ich denke, auch First Majestic und Ecu werden einen ähnlich erfolgreichen Weg gehen.

Antwort auf Beitrag Nr.: 23.781.602 von Wayet am 05.09.06 23:06:46meine rein persönliche meinung: ja, man kann kaufen!! preis nebensächlich. du wirst nichts vergleichbares finden. ich hab sowas auch noch nie gesehen! nicht in der größenordnung! eine 10 mio klitsche, die behauptet nächstes jahr 7-8 mio zu verdienen, ist nix ungewöhnliches! aber eine firma, die nachweislich letztes jahr 323 mio usd nettogewinn (!) gemacht hat und dieses jahr noch mehr verdienen wird... das ist defintiv ne andere kategorie! das ist ne einzigartige chance - meine meinung. die tage einstelliger kurse sind garantiert gezählt...
ich hatte allerdings auch erst gezögert wegen der ke. hätte nicht einen ganz so krassen run erwartet. normalerweise halten sich die instis ja auch eher zurück und versuchen über die ke reinzukommen. erst wenn die durch ist wird nachgeordet - über die börse - was nicht bekommen wurde. ganz wie es bei first majestic lief. aber hier gabs kein halten. das witzige ist auch dass je höher der preis geht desto geringer die verwässerung ausfällt = zusätzlicher treiber...
