Clark Gables letzte Worte zu Vivian Leigh in dem Südstaatendrama "Vom Winde verweht" sind als bester Leinwandspruch in die Filmgeschichte eingegangen. Der legendäre Satz "Frankly, my dear, I don`t give a damn", zu deutsch "Ehrlich gesagt, meine Liebe, das ist mir egal!", wurde bei einer Abstimmung des American Film Institute zum besten Filmzitat aller Zeiten gekürt.

Der Sender CBS präsentierte am Dienstagabend die Liste der besten 100 Sprüche. Als Mafioso in "Der Pate" belegt Marlon Brando den zweiten Platz mit der Drohung "Ich werde ihm ein Angebot machen, das er nicht ablehnen kann". Mit einem Zitat aus dem Klassiker "Die Faust im Nacken" sicherte sich Brando auch den dritten Platz.

Insgesamt standen 400 nominierte Filme auf dem Stimmzettel, die von rund 1500 Regisseuren, Schauspielern, Kritikern und Studiomitarbeitern ausgewählt wurden. Humphrey Bogarts unvergessliche Worte an Ingrid Bergman in "Casablanca" - "Ich schau Dir in die Augen, Kleines" - kamen auf Platz fünf. Der Hollywood-Klassiker aus dem Jahr 1942 landete mit insgesamt sechs Zitaten unter den Top 100.

"Terminator"-Star Arnold Schwarzenegger ist mit dem Satz "I`ll be back" vertreten (Platz 37), diverse Agent 007-Darsteller mit dem legendären Spruch "Bond. James Bond" (Platz 22) und Robert de Niro als "Taxi Driver" mit der mürrischen Frage "You talking to me?" (Platz zehn). Den hundertsten Rang belegt Leonardo DiCaprio mit dem Ausruf "Ich bin der König der Welt" an Bord der "Titanic".

Das älteste Zitat stammt aus dem Streifen "The Jazz Singer" aus dem Jahr 1927, das jüngste aus dem Fantasy-Epos "Der Herr der Ringe - Die zwei Türme" von 2002.
