Urban Outfitters Says Board Approves 2-For-1 Stock Split, Effective Next Month
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Urban Outfitters Inc. on Wednesday said its board approved splitting the company`s stock two-for-one, effective next month.
Shareholders of record as of Sept. 6 will receive on Sept. 23 one additional Urban Outfitters share for each share held. Following the split, there will be 164.3 million shares outstanding.
Companies often use stock splits to make the price of their shares more attractive to individual investors. Urban Outfitters last split its stock about a year ago, and the price has since doubled, hitting a 52-week high of $62.96 in late July.
The parent of namesake stores, as well as Anthropologie stores and the Free People line of casual clothing, reported a 10 percent increase in same-store sales, or sales at stores open at least one year, and a 49 percent rise in profit for the second quarter ended July 31.
Shares rose 38 cents to $57.13 on the Nasdaq in afternoon trading.

CHICAGO (Dow Jones) - Urban Outfitters Inc. said its second-quarter profit jolted 49% when customers bought fall fashions in July and it sees this "current positive spending mood" as a positive sign of what`s ahead for the rest of the year.
Urban Outfitters (URBN) shares, however, tumbled 3.7%, or $2.12, to $54.96 at the open.
The parent of the namesake stores, as well as Anthropologie stores and the fledgling Free People line of casual clothing said it made $30.6 million, or 36 cents a share for the quarter compared with last year`s results of $20.5 million, or 25 cents a share.
Sales jumped 34% to a record $253.4 million from $189.5 million a year ago. Same-store sales, a key industry measure of sales at stores open longer than a year, climbed 10% on top of last year`s robust 26% pop.
Same-store sales were higher by 13% at Urban Outfitters stores, the company`s largest division; 6% at the Anthropologie stores and 36% at Free People. The Free People clothing line is sold in more than 1,100 boutiques and department stores. The company opened three Free People stores this year and expects to open another two to three. The line also is sold in catalogs and on a web site.
`"July (same-store sales) were the best of the quarter due to strong customer response to our fall fashion assortments," Chairman Richard Hayne said in the earnings release.
"This momentum, combined with the current positive spending mood of our customers, makes us optimistic about second half opportunities," he added.

Solange Gewinne so steigen wie Aktienkurs ist doch alles OK.

hallo wach, bist wohl im schlafwagen gefahren. am 8.7. hast du die für dein musterdepot eingefangen. ich finde, etwas reichlich spät. trotzdem glaube ich, dass du damit erfolg hast. nur, 2 jahre zu spät. sieh dir den chart an und du weisst was ich meine. etwas mehr lesen, 2 jahre zeitgewinn. der chart von urbn war schon mehrmals in anderen threads.
noch etwas. in deinem thread 953586 machst du ja ordentlich dampf für dein musterdepot. positiv beurteile ich, du bist wenigstens im grünen bereich.
aber, mit einer performenc von 8,59% ?
kommen da die ratten aus dem keller?
bestimt ist meine mail nicht böse gemeint.

"This is saying that the country of Mexico is a dirty place," said Barry Morrison, regional director of the civil rights group. "Dirty can be interpreted figuratively and literally."

The group wants the Philadelphia-based retailer to get rid of all its inventory.
Urban Outfitters did not immediately return calls for comment Friday. The retailer, which targets 18- to 30-year-olds, has run into similar controversy before.
Two years ago, it stopped selling a game called "Ghettopoly" after protests by black civil rights leaders. Last year, it halted sales of a T-shirt that read "Everyone Loves A Jewish Girl," surrounded by dollar signs, after the Anti-Defamation League objected.
A "Voting is for Old People" T-shirt angered pro-voting groups.
