MedLink Announces Expansion of MedLink IX Interoperability Platform

NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 02/17/11 -- MedLink (OTCBB: MLKNA), a leading provider of ambulatory EMR software and clinical healthcare IT connectivity and integration solutions, announced today that it has expanded its MedLink IX (Information eXchange) solution deployed in commercial and hospital laboratories as an interoperability solution to connect the laboratory and hospital information systems with disparate systems. The MedLink IX solution, provides a connectivity and integration tool that acts as a central hub for hospitals and clinical labs to deploy and manage the sharing of clinical information across the care continuum. By eliminating the burden on hospital and lab IT staff to build and maintain multiple interfaces, MedLink IX provides an advanced interoperability foundation allowing healthcare facilities to support physicians with the interoperability and connectivity requirements of the HITECH Act and the meaningful use of health information technology.

MedLink IX ("Information eXchange") is a flexible HL7 interface engine and gives commercial labs and hospitals a low cost, user-friendly, cloud-based solution. The straightforward design allows for a seamless transition from paper-based systems to bi-lateral hl7 interfaces. MedLink IX enables the bi-directional sharing of clinical information such as lab results, radiology reports, and discharge summaries allowing for providers to make real time informed decisions at the point of care. Deployed as a web based solution, MedLink IX takes a hub and spoke approach to allow for the rapid deployment and on demand scalability required to meet the increasing interoperability demands of physicians while maintaining current IT infrastructure and all but eliminating costly and labor intensive point-to-point interfaces, and technical support demands.

"It is estimated that laboratory results make up 70 percent of the patient medical record," said Jack Redding, Executive Vice President of Clinical Integration. "We have put together a team of industry-renowned experts in laboratory information technology to ensure that our EMR and IX interoperability solutions provide immediate access to the critical information, that empower physician's to make efficient and informed decisions, which is the entire foundation 'meaningful use' to provide for optimal patient care."

Meaningful Use criterion under the HITECH provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) requires healthcare providers to successfully capture and exchange electronic clinical healthcare information, such as electronic preions and lab orders, to receive incentives and avoid penalties in payments from Medicare and Medicaid. Under the safe harbor and exception, laboratories can subsidize the cost of compliant EMR technology to physicians at 85% of the cost of such technology. The recipient is required to pay its 15% share prior to receiving the EMR technology.
