SOLAZYME EXPANDS ALGENIST DISTRIBUTION CHANNELS TO INCLUDE SEPHORA CANADA AND THE SHOPPING CHANNEL

Canada's lead beauty retailers launch breakthrough, miracle ingredient, alguronic acid, throughout the country

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Solazyme, Inc. (NASDAQ: SZYM), a renewable oil and bioproducts company, has signed agreements with Sephora Canada and the leading Canadian multimedia retailer, The Shopping Channel®, to launch Algenist™, Solazyme's microalgae-based prestige anti-aging skincare line throughout the country. In an unprecedented beauty launch that couples world-class biotechnology with Canada's most prominent beauty retailers, the Algenist product line will begin selling in all 26 Canadian Sephora stores and on The Shopping Channel's highest rated beauty programming starting in July 2011.

Algenist is a product line of advanced anti-aging skincare products formulated with Solazyme's breakthrough ingredient, alguronic acid, an unexpected discovery which was found by the company's leading biotechnology scientists while researching microalgae for renewable energy solutions. When studied for potential anti-aging benefits, alguronic acid demonstrated significant results and outperformed some of the most well known anti-aging ingredients on the market including hyaluronic acid, retinol and vitamins C and E.

"Algenist comes from a lineage of biotechnology expertise that is not only pioneering the future of skincare, but reinvigorated the luxury skin and personal care space," said Frederic Stoeckel, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Solazyme Health Sciences. "Sephora and The Shopping Channel provide incredible support and access to some of the largest markets in the world and we look forward to a successful launch with their respective audiences in Canada."

"At Sephora, we are relentless in our search for exclusive and unique product offerings to redefine the Canadian beauty landscape. Algenist's pioneering work in producing microalgae ingredients from its biotechnology platform is a brand that is poised to do this," says Lori Castagna, VP/DMM Merchandising and Marketing, Sephora Canada. "Algenist is an extremely innovative addition to our skincare assortment and we look forward to introducing it to our discerning clients."

"The Shopping Channel is very excited to be launching the Algenist skin care line in Canada. Our buyers know that Canadian women are some of the most savy and discerning customers in the world, looking for great products, latest technologies and ultimately - results," said Lella Liuzzi, Vice-President, Merchandising, The Shopping Channel. "We are confident that both our existing customers and those who have yet to discover The Shopping Channel will embrace the Algenist brand. It's an excellent compliment to our already strong beauty brand assortment."

In March of 2011, Solazyme successfully launched the initial Algenist product portfolio in more than 850 retail Sephora stores worldwide and on QVC's lead beauty programming. Algenist ranked immediately after the launch as a top selling brand in both Sephora USA and on QVC.

The line of innovative alguronic acid based products will launch in Canada with three initial product offerings including the Algenist Concentrated Serum, the Algenist Anti-Aging Moisturizer, and the Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm. The Algenist Concentrated Serum minimizes the look of wrinkles and boosts skin radiance. The Algenist Anti-Aging Moisturizer nourishes and moisturizes skin, improves firmness, and minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while the Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm firms skin while minimizing the appearance of fine lines around the eye area.

SOLAZYME AND DOW ENTER INTO CONTINGENT GLOBAL COMMERCIAL OFFTAKE AGREEMENT AND CONCURRENTLY SIGN PHASE 2 JOINT DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT TO ACCELERATE COMMERCIALIZATION OF BIO-BASED DIELECTRIC INSULATING FLUIDS

New algal oil to provide higher flash point and increased functionality to dielectric insulating fluids for transformers and other electrical applications

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Solazyme, Inc. (NASDAQ: SZYM), a renewable oil and bioproducts company, and The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW), announced today that they have entered into a contingent offtake agreement in which Dow has agreed to purchase from Solazyme all of its requirements of non-vegetable microbe-based oils for use in dielectric fluid applications through 2015, contingent upon Solazyme's ability to supply such oils within agreed specifications and certain terms and conditions of the sale. These new, renewable and biodegradable bio-based dielectric insulating fluids offer increased fire safety thanks to higher flash points and provide additional functionality that may improve the operating efficiency and extend the useful life of transformers.

Concurrently, Solazyme and Dow have entered into a Phase 2 Joint Development Agreement (JDA2), an exclusive, multi-year extension of the current joint-development agreement including accelerated commercialization timelines based on Solazyme's rapid progress in the production of tailored algal oils. JDA2 enables additional application development work to be conducted by Dow, due to Solazyme's accelerated ability to scale up their uniquely tailored algal oil feedstocks. Consumption of Solazyme's algal oil feedstocks is expected to significantly exceed the minimum estimated volumes of 8.5 million gallons (29,000 metric tons) starting in the second half of 2013 and through 2015. The offtake agreement contemplates that final pricing for the oil will be linked to certain items including Solazyme's sugar-based feedstock costs.

"Solazyme's unique biotechnology-based oils platform has created a new market opportunity to develop and produce the next-generation of safe, renewable, dielectric insulating fluids that provide increased performance benefits," said Jonathan Wolfson, CEO, Solazyme. "We have continued to reach technological advancements ahead of schedule with Dow, enabling us to further progress our commercial relationship."

"Solazyme is a leading company in the industrial biotechnology space and its renewable oil technology platform provides a unique opportunity to significantly accelerate the development of next-generation, bio-based, non-vegetable dielectric insulating fluids," said Tim Laughlin, General Manager, Dow Electrical & Telecommunications. "In the fast-growing space of bio-based dielectric insulating fluids, Solazyme's tailored algal oils will serve as a technology platform for our continued efforts to bring innovative solutions to the power industry. Advanced field trials in transformers will be initiated to further prove the technology and value proposition of these new products in the near term. Based on the application work we have already completed to date, we are confident we are positioned to commercialize these oils in timelines consistent with Solazyme's planned ability to manufacture the quantities we need."

Danke. Bist Du schon lange dabei? Was hast Du für Ziele?

Commercial rig results have confirmed that Encapso™ delivered operational improvements such as reductions in torque, increases in drilling speed, and reductions in non-productive time during use in 37 commercial wells.
AlgaVia™: In 2014, we launched our microalgae food ingredients business under the AlgaVia™ brand name. The lipid and protein powders, as well as our high oleic algae oil, are Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) in the US and have received “No Questions” letters from the FDA.
Partner Developments: In 2014, we made our first deliveries under a 10k MT supply agreement and extended our Joint Development Agreement (JDA) with Unilever; expanded our JDA and established key terms for a five year supply agreement targeting up to 10k MT/year with AkzoNobel; partnered with Versalis to commercialize Encapso™; and met all JDA targets with Mitsui.

Na ja....Zahlen waren so la la.

Flotek Industries and Solazyme Announce Strategic Agreements to Develop and Market Advanced Drilling Fluid Technologies and Expand Marketing of Encapso(TM) in the Middle East

HOUSTON & SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Flotek Industries, Inc. (NYSE:FTK) ("Flotek") and Solazyme, Inc. (NASDAQ:SZYM) ("Solazyme") today announced the companies and certain subsidiaries have entered into agreements to globally commercialize Flocapso™, an innovative, advanced drilling fluid additive. In addition, Flotek will market Solazyme's Encapso™ lubricant - the first commercially available, biodegradable encapsulated lubricant for drilling fluids - in certain Middle Eastern markets.

Under the Joint Product Development and Marketing Agreement (the "Joint Agreement"), Flotek and Solazyme will commercialize and market Flocapso, a proprietary formulation combining Flotek's patented Complex nano-Fluid® chemistries with Solazyme's proprietary Encapso technology to create an environmentally-conscious, highly effective drilling fluid additive focused on better lubricity and greater stabilization for drilling programs worldwide. Laboratory and commercial testing indicate that the Flocapso additive will allow the use of water-based fluids in wells that previously required more expensive and invasive oil-based products, providing an environmentally superior, more efficient solution to drilling challenges around the globe.

"Our partnership with Solazyme is another important step in Flotek's quest to identify and partner with innovative and efficacious technologies that advance oilfield chemistry for the benefit of our clients," said John Chisholm, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Flotek. "Solazyme's development of Encapso and its rapid recognition as a break-through lubricant in drilling applications is testament to Solazyme's world-class research team. We are delighted to have an opportunity to work with the Solazyme team as we continue our focus on developing the best chemistry solutions for the oilfield."

"We are excited to add Flotek as a strategic partner as we continue to focus on broadening the market and customer base for Encapso," said Solazyme Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Wolfson. "As a leading, global technology company with a focus on oilfield chemistry, Flotek brings new opportunities to expand sales of Encapso in the Middle East, as well as to commercialize and jointly market Flocapso, a unique and high performance product that provides a large global sales opportunity to satisfy an unmet need through the combination of superior technologies. The new Flocapso drilling solution is designed to provide significant advantages in lubricity and stabilization and a much cleaner environmental footprint."

Under the Joint Agreement, Flotek and Solazyme will continue the development of the Flocapso chemistries and work cooperatively to market Flocapso worldwide. The companies are currently in an active validation project with a large national oil company in the Middle East and are pursuing commercial applications in both domestic and international markets.

Winner of the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award, Solazyme launched Encapso in early 2014. With its unique, targeted lubricant delivery system, Encapso has shown to increase the rate of penetration, decrease drag and reduce both rotational torque and friction in a variety of vertical and horizontal drilling applications. This can lead to lower drilling costs, reduced non-productive time, and accelerated operations. Developed from Solazyme's proprietary technology platform, Encapso is non-toxic and biodegradable.

Flotek's Complex nano-Fluid, or CnF®, chemistries are a series of proprietary, patented chemistries designed to enhance performance in oil and natural gas wells, including increased productivity through improved production rates and higher ultimate recoverability. The proprietary combination of citrus-based solvents and surfactants which are combined to create a nano-molecular chemistry provide unique benefits in the drilling process.

"Last year we acquired certain intellectual property related to the use of CnF in drilling fluid applications from Tony Rea, a drilling fluid technology pioneer, which led to discussions and chemical trials with Solazyme," said Chisholm. "As a result of Tony's work showing the efficacy of using CnF to improve drilling results and the combination of Solazyme's Encapso, we developed Flocapso, a drilling fluid additive that we believe will provide significant improvements to drilling efficiency and effectiveness around the globe."

In addition, the companies have entered into a Strategic Alliance Agreement (the "Agreement") whereby Solazyme has granted Flotek exclusive distribution rights to sell and market Encapso as a drilling fluid lubricant in certain territories in the Middle East. In exchange, Flotek has agreed to certain minimum purchases of Encapso from Solazyme in the initial year of the Agreement.

"We are excited about the opportunity to work closely with Solazyme to promote the use of the Encapso lubricant in the Middle East and beyond," added Chisholm. "Our work with the Solazyme team and Encapso gives us great confidence that this game-changing technology has broad applications in many markets, especially those in which we have established relationships. Combined with our jointly developed Flocapso product, we believe this Agreement creates a meaningful advantage for Flotek as we continue to develop Middle Eastern markets."

"Flotek's expertise, infrastructure and established and emerging relationships in the Middle East make them an outstanding partner for Solazyme and Encapso," added Wolfson. "Combined with our relationships and product support team, we believe the Flotek partnership provides an excellent opportunity to accelerate market adoption of Encapso, both through certain of Flotek's distribution and sales channels in the Middle East, and through sales of the combined Flocapso drilling fluid additive worldwide."

      SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Solazyme, Inc. (SZYM), a renewable oil and bioproducts company, announced today results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2015.

“We are executing against our operating plan for 2015 and are pleased with the progress we are seeing across the company and in our manufacturing and commercialization efforts specifically,” said Jonathan Wolfson, CEO of Solazyme. “Advances are being made at the Moema JV production facility in Brazil including substantial improvements in downstream processing efficiency and oil production as well as in overall up-time and integrated operations. On the commercial side, we are moving forward as well. Recent progress includes the announced Flotek strategic partnership for Encapso™ and Flocapso™, new AlgaVia™ food ingredient customers and the expansion of our relationship with Bunge to cover a next generation food ingredient.”

      Financial Results

Total revenue for the first quarter ended March 31, 2015 was $12.6 million compared with $12.4 million in the first quarter of 2014, while product revenue of $8.8 million was up 20% versus the comparable quarter. GAAP net loss was $34.7 million for the first quarter of 2015, unchanged from the first quarter of the prior year. On a non-GAAP basis, the net loss was $29.5 million for the first quarter of 2015, compared with net loss of $30.5 million in the prior year quarter. A reconciliation of GAAP to non-GAAP results is included below.

“During the first quarter, we continued to build the market for our AlgaVia™ food ingredients business, which had its best quarter yet, and our Algenist® personal care brand turned in 26% year-on-year growth,” said Tyler Painter, COO and CFO of Solazyme. “We are focused on sales as well as overall financial performance and continue to believe that we are well positioned to profitably commercialize our products globally.”

      Business Review

Moema: During the first quarter of 2015, we experienced improved downstream recovery rates from production and were able to run greater volumes through the facility. Although we continue to experience some power and steam intermittency, fixes implemented to date have led to improved reliability, and we have experienced multi-week periods where the facility has run on a continuous, fully integrated basis. Key steam and power redundancy projects remain on track to be completed by the end of the second quarter.

Encapso™: We reached a strategic alliance agreement with Flotek under which Flotek will market Solazyme’s Encapso, the first commercially available, biodegradable encapsulated lubricant for drilling fluids, in certain Middle Eastern markets. kurzer Kommentar zu den Zahlen:

Volkswagen Completes Successful Renewable Fuel Evaluation With Solazyme and Amyris

Two-Year Trial Evaluated the Effects of Renewable Diesel Solutions With Existing and Next-Generation TDI(R) Clean Diesel Applications

Volkswagen of America, Inc. today announced the successful completion of its Renewable Diesel Evaluation Program in collaboration with Solazyme, Inc. (NASDAQ: SZYM) and Amyris, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMRS), two of the world's leaders in renewable fuels and products. Beginning in 2012, Volkswagen measured the environmental impacts from the use of pre-commercial renewable diesel formulas with TDI® Clean Diesel technology found in the 2012 Passat TDI (which uses a NOx storage system) and 2012 Jetta TDI (SCR system). Initial analysis found that advanced renewable fuels in the test offered comparable performance to standard crude-based diesel fuel blends while producing less CO2 emissions on average.

During the two-year evaluation, Solazyme's, now commercial, Soladiesel RD® (100-percent algae-derived renewable diesel fuel) and the Amyris plant-sugar derived renewable diesel formula was used for the program with each company testing a 2012 Passat TDI and Jetta TDI models. Both fuel producers added additives, which are commonly used today, to meet ASTM D 975 specifications. With more than 134,000 miles logged collectively in real-world, on-road and on-highway conditions, Volkswagen engineers found that every vehicle in the evaluation offered similar performance to existing TDI powertrains operating on today's crude-based clean diesel fuels. While powered by the two fuel formulas, results from the evaluation found that driving dynamics were not negatively impacted while fuel economy was similar or improved. In addition to comparable performance, both producers claim that greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) could be reduced by more than 50 percent on a well-to-wheel basis when using renewable fuels as compared to today's commercially available crude-based fuels.

"The successful completion of this collaboration with two leaders in renewable fuels and products highlights how far advanced fuel technology has come in recent years, proving that sustainable fuels are not only produced in more environmentally friendly ways, but can offer similar performance and lower emissions from a well-to-wheel perspective when compared with commercially available crude-based fuels," said Ewald Goessmann, executive director, Volkswagen Group of America, Electronics Research Laboratory. "Evaluations like this are part of Volkswagen's broader holistic environmental strategy which underscores the company's commitment to the environment by deploying a comprehensive approach which addresses carbon reduction and sustainability at each part of the vehicle lifecycle."

These key indicators highlight the tremendous market potential that renewable fuel solutions offer, combining comparable performance and fuel economy, helping reduce emissions, while utilizing more sustainable methods to produce the products.

During the evaluation period, no engine errors were triggered as a result of the fuel and no extreme wear or failures were reported that would prevent any of the vehicles tested from being operated normally while powered with the respective renewable formulas. Additionally, engineers found that during the evaluation period there were no negative effects in the burning of the renewable fuels, while the production of soot was lower than when using conventional diesel.

"We thank Volkswagen for its support in collaborating with Amyris to showcase the benefits of using our No Compromise® renewable diesel," said John Melo, President & CEO of Amyris, Inc. "These results demonstrate the benefits of using Amyris diesel, and contribute to increased consumer awareness and adoption of renewable fuels."

"We commend Volkswagen for their vision in setting up this program and their broad efforts to deliver more sustainable vehicles to consumers," said Graham Ellis, Senior Vice President of Business Development and Fuels for Solazyme. "Volkswagen's demonstration in the real world that Solazyme's 100 percent drop-in renewable diesel is compatible with existing infrastructure and vehicles is an important step, and has been instrumental in the commercial launch of our fuels."

As the evaluation comes to a close, the results and data collected make for a promising case for the use of renewable fuels in the years to come. The positive results highlight the possibility for new sustainable production pathways and open the door to more advanced innovation in the renewable fuel space. Volkswagen engineers will continue to analyze engine components and other data accumulated during the evaluation which could help in the enhancement of future vehicle components and refinement of renewable fuels.

The renewable diesel evaluation program is part of Volkswagen's global strategy to become one of the world's most environmentally friendly automakers by 2018. From a product perspective, the company seeks to reduce passenger fleet CO2 with a goal of cutting emissions by 90 percent by 2050, improving fuel efficiency by 10-15 percent for every new model as compared to its predecessor, and by making other significant environmental improvements for each new model that's introduced. In production, the brand is working to continue current efforts to help reduce GHG emissions at each production facility globally while increasing the use of renewable forms of energy to power production. UPS Makes Substantial Move to Renewable Fuels

Announces Three New Renewable Fuels Agreements

ATLANTA, July 29, 2015 - UPS® (NYSE:UPS) today announced agreements for up to 46 million gallons of renewable fuels over the next three years, constituting a 15-fold increase over prior contracts and making UPS one of the largest users of renewable diesel in the world.

The agreements with three leading suppliers of renewable fuels, secure access to an advanced renewable diesel fuel in order to meet the company's objectives for alternative fuel utilization. Neste, Renewable Energy Group (REG) and Solazyme will supply renewable diesel to UPS to help facilitate the company's shift to move more than 12% of its purchased ground fuel from conventional diesel and gasoline fuel to alternative fuels by the end of 2017. UPS has previously announced a goal of driving one billion miles with our alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles by the end of 2017.

"Advanced alternative fuels like renewable diesel are an important part of our strategy to reduce the carbon emissions impact of our fleet," said Mark Wallace, UPS senior vice president, global engineering and sustainability. "We have used more than three million gallons of renewable diesel to date with positive results. Renewable diesel has a huge impact significantly reducing lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90 percent less versus conventional petroleum diesel. Renewable diesel also performs well in cold weather, does not have any blending limitations and can be easily 'dropped in' to our fuel supply chain without modifications to our existing diesel trucks and equipment."

Renewable diesel is an advanced hydrocarbon-based fuel that is fully interchangeable with petroleum diesel and offers superior performance and benefits, much like how synthetic lubricants are used in cars instead of petroleum-based lubricants. Bio-based feedstocks from fats, plant oils and waste residues are converted to renewable diesel using advanced refining technologies. These new bio-refineries also have the capability to produce other renewable fuels such as renewable jet fuel, renewable gasoline and renewable propane.

"UPS believes these agreements are especially important because they will help stimulate demand for investment in refinery technologies and sustainable feedstocks needed to produce renewable fuels at a total cost that is comparable to more carbon-intensive petroleum fuels," said Wallace.

UPS has been using renewable fuels for more than a year in trucks operating in Texas and Louisiana. The new agreements pave the way for expanded use across the U.S. and potentially in parts of Europe.

Neste, headquartered in Espoo, Finland, is the world's largest producer of renewable diesel. Neste produces NEXBTL renewable diesel from a variety of feedstocks including more than half from waste and residues.

REG, headquartered in Ames, Iowa, produces renewable hydrocarbon diesel fuel from waste vegetable oils and animal fats at its Geismar, Louisiana, bio-refinery as well as biodiesel at nine bio refining locations in the U.S.

Solazyme, headquartered in San Francisco, produces a blended fuel made from microalgae and other renewable feedstocks.

"Developing alternative, economically viable energy sources is critical to UPS's commitment to reduce our environmental impact, improve communities and foster economic development opportunities around the world," Wallace said.

Additionally, earlier today, UPS released its 13th annual 2014 Corporate Sustainability Report, highlighting its growing investment in alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles. For more information on UPS's sustainability initiatives, please visit www.ups.com/sustainability.
