Merrill Lynch: Openwave - zukünftiger Mega Player
      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Markt hält, was die Futures versprechen. Ich denke, daß wir
kurzfristig schon die $ 10, sehen werden.

Openwave CEO Don Listwin Demonstrates New Mobile Internet Applications At Fall COMDEX Keynote Address
      LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 13, 2001--

Listwin Showcases Vision of "Mobile Freedom," Challenges Industry to Ensure Open Standards for Interoperability

Communications technology is experiencing profound transformation, making the benefits of true mobility available to business professionals and consumers alike. Innovation on the device, the network and among content providers is making mobile technology accessible and ubiquitous, but the challenge for the industry is to remain truly committed to open standards and designing technology for the benefit of end-users, Don Listwin, chairman, president and CEO of Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq:OPWV), tells COMDEX attendees today. Openwave is the worldwide leader of open IP-based communication infrastructure software and applications.

"Mobility is about freedom. It isn`t about what device you use, or what on-line community you subscribe to, or whether you are working in the office or on the go," Listwin said. "Mobile is about you -- about giving you the freedom to live your life and still stay connected to your most important information, relationships and services."

Listwin outlines a vision of true mobile freedom where people are mobile and are free to design their own individual communities, services and applications to fit individual lifestyles, rather than being tied to a specific device or service for their mobility. Standards such as XML, XHTML and related standards of collaboration between mobile software and hardware providers as well as the convergence of computers and mobile devices of all kinds make this level of interoperability a reality for the first time.

Highlights of the keynote include the following:

-- The demonstration of the first US service available with
completely polyphonic ring tone and color photo downloads

-- The announcement of a new IM product that is interoperable
between computers and mobile phones and helps users type
quickly and accurately using a type pf short hand, called
      Quick Text

-- The demonstration of current and future wireless devices from
      around the world

-- Elaboration on how standards can make solutions better for
      vendors, carriers and end users

Listwin shows advanced data services wireless phones and personal devices from Japan, Korea, Europe and the United States as well as demonstrates how 74 million people around the world are using mobile data services every day. He shows a sneak preview into a new photo and music download service expected to be available in the United States in December 2001.

During the keynote, Jonathan Perera, senior director for Instant Messaging, joins Listwin on stage to demonstrate Openwave`s new Instant Messaging software, also launched in limited release today at COMDEX. Openwave`s Instant Messaging represents a breakthrough technology for end-user mobile freedom by marrying the popularity of SMS messaging with the power and richness of the Web.

Openwave Instant Messaging delivers an open, standards-based approach to interactive communications with "presence" -- the technology that enables users to see whether their contacts are currently available on the web or on their mobile phones. Openwave`s innovative service delivers interoperability with Microsoft(R) MSN Messenger communities and SMS, and a simple, intuitive mobile instant messaging experience. Instant Messaging has met with extraordinary success globally. An estimated one billion instant messages are being sent globally on a daily basis (CSFB, July 2001). As for SMS, Merrill Lynch estimates that the current number of text messages being sent globally is 39 billion per month, which represents an average of 50 messages a month per subscriber (Merrill Lynch 2001).

      Preview of IM Future

Listwin further demonstrates a technology prototype for the new Openwave Messaging Client, which is expected to be released to handset manufacturers in the summer of 2002. The new application will deliver a "live address book," that displays the presence information of the contacts in users` address books on their phones, and will integrate instant messaging with multimedia messaging (MMS), letting users exchange rich multimedia-based instant messages.

"That`s the idea behind Openwave`s messaging services," said Perera. "Users don`t have to carry multiple devices with overlapping capabilities. Any mobile personal device can be customized to provide information key to that particular user, including email, fax, and voicemail or mobile information services such as pictures, ring tones, calendar and address book synchronization. This can be done on any device, whether a phone, PDA or PC. Openwave`s Messaging Services suite enables Communications Services Providers to design services for customers that enable true mobile freedom. "

The introduction of Instant Messaging is a milestone in delivering a broad suite of integrated messaging services to Communications Service Providers. Openwave Messaging Services, which includes Email, Mobile Email, Unified Messaging, Multimedia Messaging, and Instant Messaging, enables communication service providers to tailor services to meet the needs of all customer segments, improving customer loyalty and offering a personalized experience. Openwave Messaging Services empowers subscribers to personalize their communications experience and gives them the freedom to communicate the way they want.

Listwin concludes by noting that technology advances in handset and device design; network advances such as "always on" 2.5G cellular networks; and the proliferation of content, commerce and community-building services are coming together with advances in transmission technologies such as 802.11, Bluetooth, radio frequency devices and other technologies. These advances, in combination with increased industry commitment to development on open standards such as XML and XHTML, will make services over mobile devices as easy and interoperable as services over the Web.

Habe heute mal versucht (bin mir aber nicht ganz sicher)
die Stützungen zu finden. Also nach meiner Lesart müsste
11,04 halten.

      also Kraft genug wieder durchzustarten.

Multimedia Downloads to Drive Adoption of Next Generation Wireless Handsets and Demand for GPRS

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Dec 10, 2001 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV), the worldwide leader of open IP-based communication infrastructure software and applications, today announced that it is working with leading content providers to deliver enriched multimedia content and services, fully optimized for M-Services compliant handsets using Openwave(TM) Download Fun software. Following the GSM Association`s recent announcement that 16 M-Services compliant handset models will be on the market between now and early 2002, this announcement marks the beginning of the next important phase of the GSM Association`s M-Services Initiative -- the availability of compelling multimedia services.
      (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20001204/OPENWAVE )

Through Download Fun, an important element of the M-Services Guidelines, consumers will now be able to download a wide range of rich multimedia content to their wireless handsets. Consumers can use these download services to personalize their handsets with the latest content such as polyphonic ring tones, trendy screen savers, sports team logos, greeting cards, and favorite pictures of pop bands, friends, family and pets. They will also be able to play games with other players on different networks, and send mobile postcards with images, sound and text to friends around the world. The ability to download multimedia content through Download Fun takes consumers a step closer to multimedia messaging service (MMS), which will enable, among other things, animations and video clips to be sent between mobile devices. Openwave`s MMS is part of the company`s IP-based messaging services offering.

"The introduction of Download Fun allows a company like ours to take advantage of Openwave`s browser-based digital rights management and non-intrusive transaction billing to provide rich mobile multimedia formats, such as 16-chord polyphonic ring tones, to our blue-chip customers," said Anthony Stonefield, CEO, YourMobile/Premium Wireless Services. "The deployment of Download Fun extensions-enabling over-the-air downloads of rich-media products-brings compelling, iMode-like entertainment and personalization services to the world`s wireless data markets."

Download Fun is an open content delivery platform for downloading larger and richer content -- such as color graphics, digital pictures, Java applets and music files -- which will enable communication service providers (CSPs) to act as a trusted agent to ensure security, reliability and payment for content downloads. In addition to enabling the download of multimedia content, Download Fun will allow CSPs to implement flexible and creative billing and revenue models through detailed usage reporting features. Download Fun offers a content delivery value chain that will benefit CSPs, content providers and subscribers. Download Fun is part of Openwave`s suite of M-Services compliant products, which includes gateway and provisioning infrastructure, client software, download platforms, and messaging services.

"Up until now consumers have personalized their phones through simple text messaging. However, through Download Fun consumers will be able to download much larger files resulting in richer, more exciting content. Moving from a voice- and text-only environment to multimedia is a big step forward, and further proof that M-Services is coming to life, to deliver compelling services and an enriched experience for the end user," said Mark Taguchi, director of M-Services worldwide for Openwave.

Openwave has been working with the developer community around the world to create exciting new Download Fun content for M-Services, and continues to work with leading developers for MMS content. Some of the developers Openwave is working with include:

Premium Wireless Services (PWS), YourMobile Inc. is one of the world`s leading mobile entertainment brands, under which the company offers mobile multimedia content services and targeted international and local marketing to consumers. Premium Wireless Services (PWS), YourMobile`s business-to-business division, provides private-label, mobile multimedia distribution solutions to network operators (carriers), mobile device manufacturers, and entertainment/media companies worldwide; these include Sony, AOL/Time Warner, Cingular Wireless, Voicestream Wireless, Fido Wireless, Midwest Wireless, BT Cellnet, Bell Mobility, Infospace, News Corporation/OmniMedia, Associated New Media, Austereo Radio Group, Pepsi Chart Show/Capitol Radio, Columbia Pictures, Info2cell, Fanscape, and many others. Run Media builds and maintains wireless media content platforms for carriers, retailers, and consumer brand companies. At the Openwave booth at COMDEX last month, Run Media became the first content company to demonstrate a next generation wireless media service leveraging Download Fun to distribute polyphonic ring tones, midi and karaoke files, as well as digital audio clips. Run Media enables carriers to offer a private labeled Web and Wap service that gives subscribers access to their personal media collection. Run Media has relationships with top music companies including Time-Warner, EMI, and Zomba. Sagem, Samsung, Siemens, and Telit are among the device manufacturers Openwave is working with to bring M-Services handsets to market.

The M-Services Initiative was created by the GSM Association to drive adoption and usage of mobile Internet services with the rollout of GPRS. Key components of M-Services include a graphical user interface for mobile handsets and the ability to securely download rich, multi-media files like ring tones, wallpapers and other graphical images to the handset, through functionality based on Openwave Download Fun specification. On a royalty-free basis, Openwave contributed to the GSM Association`s handset specification the intellectual property rights for Download Fun and the graphical user interface. Openwave also works with handset manufacturers and developer partners to provide content that will be attractive to the consumer market, helping to drive mobile Internet usage.

Telesp Celular Chooses the Openwave Mobile Access Gateway to Power South America`s First Next Generation 2.5G 1X Wireless Network
      12/12/01

Openwave Enables Telesp Celular to Leverage Advanced Technology - One of South America`s Largest Carriers Sees Greater Advantages and Continued Success

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Dec 12, 2001 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV), the worldwide leader of open IP-based communication infrastructure software and applications, today announced that Telesp Celular, South America`s largest wireless Internet carrier has launched their 2.5G 1X CDMA wireless network built on the Openwave(TM) Mobile Access Gateway. The Mobile Access Gateway is a robust, industry-leading software infrastructure providing Telesp Celular with the technology needed to deliver the mobile Internet to their subscribers. Openwave will be participating in Telesp Celular`s wireless network launch event in Sao Paulo, Brazil today.

Telesp Celular has had one of the fastest mobile Internet adoption rates of any carrier in the world. Telesp Celular chose the Openwave Mobile Access Gateway in May 2000 to help launch their initial CDMA mobile Internet service and, continuing to build their solution around enhanced Openwave products, has seen tremendous success, with more than 1.8 million subscribers owning a WAP-enabled phone. With Openwave`s highly scalable and reliable technology, Telesp Celular is the first wireless carrier to launch the 2.5G CDMA solution in South America. Telesp Celular`s 2.5G network is available today as their "WaaaP; a Internet de Bolso" service. Telesp Celular is forging ahead with next generation solutions, cutting-edge technologies, and new user-beneficial applications.

"Telesp Celular`s high awareness of customer needs has enabled them to make the right decisions on when to launch specific Openwave enabled services in their market, resulting in remarkable adoption," said Richard Wong, senior vice president at Openwave. "Openwave is excited to provide Telesp Celular with open communications platforms that further drive their industry leading wireless Internet offering."

The launch of Telesp Celular`s 2.5G wireless network marks the introduction of a significantly advanced network powered by Openwave`s technology. Inherent advantages to this network include faster transmission speeds, "always-on" connection capability and the move to a packet-based network.

With data-communications speeds of up to 10 times faster than before, "always-on" technology, and other network enhancements, the advantages of the new wireless network facilitate the rollout of applications such as instant messaging and multi-media messaging services. Openwave Instant Messaging (IM) and Openwave Multi-media Messaging Services are part of the company`s IP-based messaging services offering. Openwave`s IM lets users exchange instant messages through an intuitive, conversational user interface, from either their mobile phone or the PC. Openwave`s open, standards-based instant messaging solution is available on the networks and handsets existing today. Openwave will be demonstrating their recently announced Openwave Instant Messaging product at Telesp Celular`s wireless network launch event today.
