In Botsuanas Energiesektor kommt Bewegung.

US$ kosten.

      Mmamantswe coal reserves beat expectations:eek::eek:

Aviva Corporation, the Australian listed energy focused outfit said it has been stunned beyond belief by the huge potential of Mmamantswe project in Botswana, adding that its reserves gives it an upper edge since the type of coal it has is the one which is globally sought after.

The company which has been scouting coal in Mmamantswe —some 100 kilometres from Gaborone— just off the Francistown- Gaborone Highway reported huge reserves to the tune of 895 million tonnes earlier in the year.

“To achieve almost 70 percent conversion from resources to reserves exceeded our expectations,” Aviva Corporation’s Chief Executive Officer, Lindsay Reed said.

“The strong reserve position, together with an 8Gl per annum water resource and outstanding infrastructure confirms Mmamantswe as a very attractive fuel source for an Independent Power Project.”

Information filed with the Australian Stock Exchange indicated that the recent Scoping Study completed by SRK showed the Coal Reserve could support 2000MW of power generation for 40 years at a low stripping ratio of 1.0:1 (bcm/t).

“The low stripping ratio and a low sulphur content of 0.38 percent are significant advantages for the Mmamantswe deposit,” the company said.

The Perth-based energy producing company is tri-listed on the Australia, Botswana and London Stock Exchanges.

The company aims to be one of the trail blazing independent Power Producers in Botswana— an operation that been reserved for government entities until recently.

The Mmamantswe deposit – near Mochudi— is a resource of 1 billion tonnes with an estimated reserve of 895 tonnes of coal.

The Mmamantswe concession area—- which is some 110 kilometres north of Gaborone — fell into the hands of Mawana Minerals (Pty) Limited—a company owned by the late Paul Ramaloto and his family in 2006 after the discoveries made by BP in the 1980s.

He later invited Aviva Corporation to a joint venture that would see the Australian company owning 90 percent subject to the fact that it covers full financial budget for prospecting up to a bankable feasibility study.

So far, available record from Department of Geological Survey indicate that the area has two different types of coal, — similar to that at Matimba and Grootguluk mine in South Africa at a depth of 70 meters. Deeper than that, the company also has coal with similar rock characteristics to that of Morupule and Mmamabula.

Aviva comes at a time when the country is estimated to be having coal resource of 200 billion – enough to supply the power hungry southern African region which is at the initial stages of industrialisation.

“Aviva has now completed all the requisite technical studies to apply for registration of Mmamantswe Project as a sub-project of Botswana Power Corporation. Registration as a sub-project of a utility is a requirement for access to the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) network,” the company said.

Aviva reports 895Mt coal reserve at Mmamantswe

Aviva Corporation Ltd says a report by SRK Consulting outlines a probable run-of-mine reserve of 895Mt producing suitable power station feedstock of 300Mt from the Mmamantswe coal project in Botswana.

The report is the culmination of a reserve upgrade drilling program, coal quality study, coal preparation study and scoping study commissioned in 2008 to convert half the 1.3bt resource to reserves.

CEO Lindsay Reed said that to achieve almost 70% conversion from resources to probable run of mine reserves exceeded expectations. "The strong reserve position, together with an 8GL per annum water resource and outstanding infrastructure confirms Mmamantswe as a very attractive fuel source for an independent power project," he said.

      zum West Kenya Projekt.........

Aviva und AfriOre unterzeichnen Vereinbarung West Kenya

Aviva Corporation ‒ a resource development company listed on both the Australian and Botswana Stock Exchanges, and headquartered in Perth ‒ has reached agreement with AfriOre International (Barbados) Limited (AfriOre) ‒ a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lonmin Plc ‒ to acquire an interest in the development of its highly prospective West Kenya gold and base metals project.

A company statement released here confirmed that Aviva had signed a memorandum of understanding with AfriOre through which it could earn up to 75% of the West Kenya project.

It added that the project comprised two contiguous licences covering 2 800 sq km of the highly prospective Kakamega Greenstone belt in Kenya, part of the Tanzanian Archaean Craton. Previous exploration of the area had identified significant potential for gold, as well as copper, lead and zinc.

In terms of the agreement, Aviva can earn a 51% interest in the licences by sole funding US$3 million (R22.5 million) over three years. It can earn a 75% interest in the project by completing a pre-feasibility study demonstrating a pre-tax NPV of not less than US$50 million (R375 million).

“The project includes a large and prospective landholding, with relatively low expenditure commitments and annual licence fees,” Aviva CEO Lindsay Reed said. “Aviva is proposing an exploration programme which will include airborne geophysics, regional mapping and structural modelling and a drilling programme targeting both gold and base metals,” he added.

“The project has significant gold potential, with more than 200 known gold occurrences within the licence areas, and positive results from limited drilling by AfriOre,” he continued.

“This is a world class gold address, and the project boasts high grade base metal targets,” Reed stated, “and the project is well supported by road and rail transport to port, commercial and communications infrastructure.

He went on to say that the Kenyan project would be a key focus for Aviva, which would leverage is established project development expertise.“Aviva has proven expertise in the exploration, development, approval and feasibility of resource projects, and we look forward to applying this to the Kenyan project,” he concluded.

Aviva Corporation commences VTEM survey at West Kenya project

Aviva Corporation (ASX: AVA, BSE: AVIVA) has commenced a high–resolution Versatile Time-Domain Electromagnetic (VTEM) geophysical survey over a portion of the West Kenya project area considered prospective for gold and base metal mineralization.

The survey follows the recent signing of the West Kenya Joint Venture Agreement and will cover an area in excess of 100km2 and comprising approximately 1140 line kilometers.

The survey will be flown in an area to the south of Kakamega, in the vicinity of the Bumbo base metal deposit and will also cover the Lirande-Kimingini Lineament.

Lindsay Reed, CEO, said “the speed at which the requisite paperwork for the VTEM survey was put in place was pleasantly surprising."

“We are also well advanced with plans for an aeromagnetic survey over the entire tenement package and will commence flying as soon as possible,” he said.

“In the Bumbo area we are eager to replicate and build on the historical results and expect to commence drilling in the last quarter of 2010," Reed added.

Previous work in the area has highlighted the mineral potential of the area and resulted in the discovery of a number of significant gold and base metal prospects including the Bumbo Zn-Cu-Pb-Ag-Au deposit.

The VTEM survey has been designed to confirm the location, geometry and extent of known base metal mineralisation at Bumbo.

It is looking for repeats of Bumbo “style” massive sulphide mineralization and to investigate the eastern end of the ironstone belt and Lirande-Kimingini lineament that has in the past returned a number of base metal geochemical anomalies.

Data collection is expected to take approximately 10 days after which US based Fathom Geophysics have been engaged to complete an interpretation of the data in August 2010.

The survey is being undertaken by Geotech Airborne Limited and the logistics and permits for the import of geophysical equipment, a helicopter, pilots and technical personnel were arranged in three weeks with the assistance of the Commissioner of Mines and Geology in Kenya.

The geophysical surveys will be combined with geological mapping, structural interpretation and geochemical mapping over the next six months to build a comprehensive understanding of the Ndori Greenstone Belt covered by the licence area. Aviva said this work will add to and prioritise the known targets for drilling.

Yesterday Aviva signed an agreement over a highly prospective West Kenya gold and base metals project with a Lonmin Plc subsidiary, AfriOre International (Barbados) Limited. The project has significant gold potential, with more than 200 known gold occurrences within the license areas.

Aviva Corporation completes aerial magnetic survey at West Kenyan gold project

Wednesday, August 11, 2010 Perth-based Aviva Corporation (ASX: AVA, BSE: AVIVA) has reported the completion of a second high–resolution airborne geophysical survey over its West Kenyan project, where it is exploring for gold and base metals.

The survey follows the recent signing of the West Kenya Joint Venture Agreement with Lonmin Plc (LON: LMI) subsidiary AfriOre.

Under the terms of the JVA, which was signed July 15 2010, Aviva can earn up to 75% of the project which comprises two contiguous licenses over some 2,800km2 of the prospective Ndori Greenstone belt.

      Proactiveinvestors recommends
Weststar Resources confirms Saskatchewan Coal in Drill CoreAtlantic Coal consolidating the niche US anthracite industry Churchill Mining secures a big partner for a big projectThe project has significant gold potential, with more than 200 known gold occurrences within the license areas.

The survey comprised some 26,000 line kilometers and will be spliced together with data from the recently completed Heli-VTEM/ magnetic surveys and historical Heli-Magnetic / Radiometric survey data to provide complete and seamless 100m resolution magnetic coverage of the 2800km2 West Kenya Project area.

Magnetic data will be used in conjunction with geological mapping to provide an integrated tectono-stratigraphic and structural framework for the Ndori Greenstone Belt.

The company said the information will be the key to understanding the structural controls to gold mineralization in the belt and will assist with prioritization of existing targets and definition of new structural / magnetic targets.

Lindsay Reed, CEO, said “the VTEM survey which covers less than 5% of the license area is bringing up targets that will be investigated in a 3000m diamond drilling program commencing in the December quarter.”

“The magnetic survey will increase high resolution coverage over the entire license area and will be key to generating targets for a large RC/RAB program early next year," Reed said.

Radiometric and remote sensed data sets (e.g. Aster, Landsat 7 and ALOS) will be used to assist with regolith mapping and interpretation. The regolith data is important for interpretation of geochemical programs and existing geochemical data for target generation.

Previous work in the area has highlighted the mineral potential of the area and resulted in the identification of a number of significant gold and base metal prospects.

US based Fathom Geophysics has been engaged to complete an interpretation of the data in which is due for completion in late August.

Aviva is well funded, and is developing a pipeline of energy and metal projects both in Africa and Australia.

Aviva also has an interest in two coal-based energy assets – the Mmamantswe project in Botswana, and the Coolimba Power and Coal project in Western Australia.

The company had A$3,788,000 cash at the end of the last quarter. Aviva shares last traded at 9.8 cents.

SWIS Network - Delivering power to WA

The Coolimba Power Project will enhance the performance and efficiency of the SWIS particularly for customers in the Mid West region.

The SWIS consists of 88,000km of network supplying electricity from Kalbarri to Albany in Western Australia. It is owned and managed by Western Power, a public company wholly owned by the WA State Government.

In April 2006, the State-owned power utility was split into four entities; Verve Energy (generation), Synergy (retail) and Western Power (networks) all business units operating within the SWIS; and Horizon Power, a separate entity responsible for power outside of the SWIS.

At the time of the split, Verve's generation capacity was 3480MW, but as part of the Government's recent reform of the electricity industry, it was required to reduce its generating capacity to 3000MW by 2008 to encourage new participants in the market. Total generation capacity in the SWIS stands at around 5000MW.

Synergy has the exclusive right to service small (non-contestable) customers in the SWIS and competes with other retailers and generators for large industrial customers.Private generators can also sell directly to large loads.

All of the baseload generation in the SWIS is located south of Perth and despite the addition of a second 132kV transmission line from Perth to Eneabba, transmission losses to the Mid West are the highest in the network at up to 10 per cent. Not only is this highly inefficient, but it also significantly adds to wasteful greenhouse gas production. The reliability and availability of power supplied to the Mid West remains severely constrained by the network.

The commissioning of the Coolimba Power Project and the construction of 330kV lines between Perth and Geraldton will greatly enhance power supply security for all customers in the Mid West and the SWIS.

Preparing for the Future - "Carbon Capture Ready"

The Coolimba Power Project is leading the way with "Carbon Capture Ready" technology, which will allow up to 90 per cent of the future carbon emissions produced by the plant to be captured and stored.

The Coolimba Power Project will operate for at least 30 years, and during its operating life, will likely be subject to commercial constraints on the emission of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ).The Australian Federal Government intends to introduce a Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme, which would impact the Coolimba Power Station, and all other major coal-fired power stations in the country.

To minimise the impact of emissions charges on the power station, and as a demonstration of the seriousness with which Coolimba takes its environmental obligations, the Project will be built from the outset to be capable of rapid conversion to capture the CO 2 produced during the combustion of coal. Through this capture process CO 2 can be readily cooled and compressed, ready for transport as a liquid to a suitable underground storage location (sequestration).

In this way, about 90 per cent of the CO 2 produced by burning coal can be captured and stored, reducing the project emissions to about 20 per cent of the emissions currently being achieved by natural gas-fired combined cycle generating plants. The Coolimba project aims to build on the experiences of a number of demonstration carbon capture projects in Australia and overseas to become the first commercial scale “Carbon Capture Ready” project in Australia.

“Capturing” the CO 2 at the power station is only one step in the process of capturing and sequestering CO 2 so that greenhouse gases are not released into the atmosphere. Coolimba Power has been working with the Cooperative Research Centre for Greenhouse Gas Technologies (CO2CRC), based at Curtin University, and AWE (a Mid West Gas Producer) to support the necessary research and development work to allow the CO 2 to be sequestered immediately after the carbon capture conversion is completed at Coolimba.

There remains a lot of work to do to identify and secure the sequestration sites, and will continue the development of the C0 2 capture technology.

      Geosequestration - Storing Carbon Emissions

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is a process that involves the capture, transport, injection and storage of greenhouse gases (including carbon dioxide – CO 2 ) deep underground for long-term safe and secure storage.

The best sites for storage are deep geological formations, such as depleted petroleum fields or deep natural aquifers filled with saline water.

      Rest hier....;)

Coolimba Term Sheet and Exclusivity Period
      22 September, 2010

Aviva Corporation Ltd (ASX: AVA, BSE: AVIVA) is pleased to advise that it has nominated a preferred development proponent for the Coolimba Power project and has entered into an Term Sheet and Exclusivity Period, extending from now until 31 January 2011. The Exclusivity Period will allow for the completion of a due diligence process and if terms are finalized, the execution of detailed documentation.

The Term Sheet provides for the establishment of a Coolimba special purpose vehicle (SPV) to take the project forward and includes:

      a payment of $1.25 million to Aviva upon the execution of detailed documents;

reimbursement of Aviva’s direct expenditure of $11 million upon initial financial close; and

an ongoing economic interest in the power project.

Under the proposal Aviva will make available to the Coolimba SPV all the resource data, operational data, design, approval processes and corporate entities required to effect the development of the Coolimba Power project. Aviva will continue to provide input and assistance to the project as required. Aviva has agreed to the proponents request for a $3 million break fee, for the duration of the Exclusivity Period.

The proposal is a positive step toward value recovery for Aviva shareholders for five years of effort and millions of development dollars. Coolimba is well placed for development as an integrated energy supply for one or more resource developments in the Midwest region. The preferred proponent has strong relationships with likely customers in the Midwest.

The configuration of the Coolimba Power project allows a number of staged development scenarios to be considered, said Mr Lindsay Reed, CEO of Aviva Corporation. “The approval secured for 2 x 180MW gas fired units and 3 x 150MW coal fired units will enable a developer to elegantly match available fuel with the timing of emerging loads.” he said.

Export Grade Thermal Coal Potential From Mmamantswe
      7 February, 2011

Aviva Corporation Ltd (“Aviva” or “the Company”) is pleased to announce that a study completed by A&B Mylec Pty Ltd confirmed that export grade thermal coal can be produced from the Company’s Mmamantswe project in Botswana.

A&B Mylec Pty Ltd was engaged to investigate the potential quantity and quality of export thermal coal that could be produced at Mmamantswe. The study demonstrates that the 895Mt Mmamantswe project could yield two products streams, 200Mt of export grade thermal coal and an additional 100-150Mt of domestic power coal capable of supporting a 300MW domestic power station.

The key conclusions of the study are listed below:

Two stage processing of the Mmamantswe deposit is a viable option to deliver both export grade 20-22MJ/kg (ad) and domestic grade 13.5-16.5GJ/t (ad) thermal products.
The whole of plant yield is enhanced by the two stage washing process compared to the previous single stage base case scenario with recoveries lifted to 46%.
The preferred process option combines coal from Zones A, C and D in a single feed stream for processing, greatly reducing the complexity of the plant resulting in lower capital, operating and maintenance costs.
The conclusions assume that coal from Zone B is discarded as waste but notes that in-pit scalping of Zone B coal could deliver additional feed tonnes at an overall yield of greater than 30% and recommends further evaluation of this option.
The A&B Mylec study was based on the 20 year preliminary mine layout prepared by SRK Consulting in the as part of the Mmmantaswe Coal Project Scoping Study completed in 2009.

If Zone B is discarded as waste the effective strip ratio of the Mmamantswe deposit would only increase from 1.0 bcm of waste/tonne of coal, to 1.5bcm/t.
