    Oil refiner Valero Energy warns of net loss for Q1, gives downbeat revenue outlook
    https://www.marketwatch.com/story/oil-refiner-valero-energy-…
    ...
    Shares of Valero Energy Corp. fell 0.5% in afternoon trading Monday, but pared earlier losses of as much as 2.3%, after the petroleum refiner warned of an adjusted first-quarter loss and revenue miss, citing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy, and therefore the demand for fuel.

    The company said it now expects a net loss of $2.10 billion to $1.83 billion. On an adjusted basis, excluding non-recurring items, the company expects a loss of $200 million to income of $160 million.

    The FactSet consensus is for net income of $14.5 million and adjusted net income of $179.5 million. Valero expects revenue of $20.10 billion to $22.20 billion, below the FactSet consensus of $20.27 billion.

    The company said actions taken to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus has resulted in airlines cutting back on flights and a drop in motor vehicle use at a time when consumer demand for gasoline typically increases. "As a result, there has also been a decline in the demand for, and thus also the market prices of, crude oil and certain of our products, particularly our refined petroleum products and most notably gasoline and jet fuel," Valero said in a statement.

    Separately, Valero said it deferred $100 million in tax payments that were due in the first quarter, plan to defer other tax payments this year, plan to defer certain capital expenditures, have not repurchased any shares since mid-March and are analyst various liquidity options...

    Valero Energy CEO Gorder calls coronavirus a 'black swan' event
    https://finance.yahoo.com/news/valero-energy-ceo-gorder-call…
    ...
    Valero Energy Corp Chief Executive Joe Gorder said markets are reacting to the coronavirus outbreak, calling the threat a "black swan event" whose economic impacts are not yet clear.

    The real questions are the length and severity of the outbreak, Gorder said.

    "It’s a little early, but when you shut down an economy the size of China, and you limit trade flows going in and out, and we make fuels that move things along, it’s going to have an impact," Gorder said on Tuesday at the Argus Americas Crude Summit in Houston.
    ...
    Gasoline demand is likely to be flat to declining in the future due to efficiencies, but diesel demand will rely solely on the health of the economy, Gorder said. (Reporting by Jennifer Hiller Editing by Chizu Nomiyama)

    ..und die Dividenden (also total return) sind da noch gar nicht drin :eek:

    --> seit 1988 ergab sich so eine jährliche Rendite von über 19%

    <nein, ich habe hier keine USD10,000 am 5.1.1988 investiert>

    Zum Vergleich: S&P 500 ca. +10.7% in diesem Zeitraum: https://dqydj.com/sp-500-return-calculator/
    <DAX: ca. +8% :rolleyes::rolleyes: - dafür gibt's im Euroraum seit 1999 kaum Inflation :rolleyes: >

    Es gibt Aktien, die haben in diesem Zeitraum (weit) mehr geschafft, z.B. Apple mit ca. +28.1%

    --> nur habe ich bei Technologie-Aktien, wenn sie "billig" sind oder so erscheinen, immer ein heftiges Prognose-Problem

    --> bei so einem ollen Erdölraffinerie-Betreiber eher weniger
