SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - November 15, 2016) - Automotive Grade Linux (AGL), a collaborative open source project developing a Linux-based, open platform for the connected car, today announced five new members have joined Automotive Grade Linux and The Linux Foundation.

"The industry is beginning to realize that an open platform can lead to tangible business results and significantly reduce production times, development costs and improve product design," said Dan Cauchy, Executive Director of Automotive Grade Linux. The AGL Unified Code Base (UCB) distribution was built from the ground up by a broad community of automakers, suppliers and technology companies. The in-vehicle infotainment platform is ideal for deploying navigation, communications, safety, security and connectivity and is in a unique position to become the de facto standard for the industry. The third release of the UCB will be on display at CES 2017; details will be shared later this year.

AGL has close to 90 members representing various business interests, from semiconductors and in-vehicle software to IoT and connected cloud services. The newest AGL members include: Audiokinetic, Sasken Communication Technologies, Star Lab, Toyota Tsusho Corporation and Witekio.
