New Airborne System Designed to Use LightPath's New Materials
ORLANDO, FL / ACCESSWIRE / April 9, 2024 / LightPath Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:LPTH) ("LightPath," the "Company," or "we"), a leading vertically integrated global manufacturer and integrator of proprietary optical and infrared technologies, today announced the first incorporation of their new BlackDiamond-NRL infrared glass, BDNL, within a US Department of Defense ("DoD") program of record.
BDNL was designed into a new airborne system expected to require upwards of 150,000 lenses. To qualify BDNL for use by the US Military, the manufacturing-readiness process and tests included extensive tests and measurements of a large number of samples from different production batches, in accordance with the plan for developing alternatives to Germanium set forth and sponsored by the US DoD via the Defense Logistics Agency ("DLA").
"BDNL's unique properties make this new airborne system possible," said Sam Rubin, President and Chief Executive Officer of LightPath. "Temperature and weather can greatly impact lens-based systems with changes requiring additional lenses and advanced systems to refocus. We have been working with this customer for the last 12 months, and by bringing us in early, we have been able to deliver excellent results. By incorporating our materials, the new airborne system can neutralize those temperature and weather effects and reduce overall system weight and complexity by removing lenses and focusing mechanics."
