AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwired - Oct 30, 2013) - Accruent, the leader in real estate and facilities management solutions, announced today that Cuyahoga Community College ("Tri-C") is the first customer to go live on the all-new, cloud-based version of its renowned FAMIS Integrated Workplace Management System (IWMS) for higher education institutions.

The FAMIS name represents a 30-year legacy of focused higher education development and collaboration with some of the best and brightest universities and colleges in North America. In early 2012, Accruent announced an accelerated investment program to create a new version of FAMIS engineered from the ground up for cloud-based deployment. The goal was to have a FAMIS customer upgraded to the new version by the end of 2013.

"Tri-C agreed to be first," said Mark Friedman, founder and CEO of Accruent. "They have been a great partner to help us reach this critical milestone in our ongoing rollout of the new FAMIS," he continued. "Working with Tri-C is helping us bring a cloud-based, functionally-rich higher education IWMS solution to our existing customers as well as the broader higher education community."

Cuyahoga Community College, the largest community college and one of the largest higher education institutions in Ohio, has been a FAMIS customer since 2004. In October 2012, Blair Bosworth, Tri-C's executive director of plant operations, was approached by Accruent with a proposal to partner to become the first FAMIS customer to migrate.

"We were impressed by the universal browser-based platform and sleek, intuitive user interface of the new FAMIS," said Bosworth. "We were confident it would relieve us from never-ending support challenges associated with the changing combinations of operating systems, database engines and browser versions in our in-house environment, as well as provide immediate efficiency benefits. We decided to move as early as possible and take the opportunity to migrate to a cloud-based solution. The Accruent team supported our pilot program and migration process with frequent webinars and in-person meetings. We have been using the new FAMIS Maintenance Management system since July, and Accruent has been there every step of the way to make our implementation a success."

The all-new IWMS system combines the purpose-built higher education functionality of the existing FAMIS system with a proven cloud-based technology platform that is already supporting facility management customers in other industries. The combination of an established functional design and a proven technology platform allowed Accruent to create a completely new, yet fully-featured solution for higher education in record time.

FAMIS is a purpose-built, higher education IWMS designed to manage the complete facilities lifecycle -- from real estate acquisitions to project management, operations, maintenance, facilities management, asset management, inventory control and space management. Since 1982, FAMIS technology has stood out as a leader in providing robust facilities management functionality developed specifically for the higher education sector. The average FAMIS customer realizes over 600% return on investment over a five-year period from implementing the FAMIS suite for facilities lifecycle management. The new FAMIS is deployed exclusively via the cloud as a SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) solution to reduce customers' total cost of ownership, enhance agility, and remove the burden of system maintenance and upgrades.
