    Obstetrics (OB) physician expert Thomas Garite, M.D., editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology (AJOG), director of research and education for Obstetrics at Pediatrix Medical Group, and chief clinical officer of PeriGen, will present a free webinar titled "Problems with Category II Fetal Heart Rate Patterns."

    The webcast is part of PeriGen's inaugural "Excellence in Perinatal Care Webinar Series" created to explore methods to optimize labor and delivery (L&D) care excellence for mothers and infants.

    WHY:
    The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) defined terminology and assessment of electronic fetal monitoring (EFM) in three categories have improved standardization in communication, but may have created a problem with management of the majority of patterns. The question is: Can we do better?

    Dr. Garite discusses the shortcomings of Category II EFM and the latest viewpoints on a new management algorithm. Obstetric physicians and nurses, educators, nurse managers, chief nursing officers, patient safety advocates, risk managers and other L&D care stakeholders are invited to register.

    • Limitations of the NICHD Fetal Heart Rate Pattern Classification system
    • Identified areas where Category II patterns are not helpful in patient management
    • An alternative management scheme for Category II fetal heart rate patterns
